It's called a grill but has a diner feel: either way Kappy's hits the spot! While in the area we dropped into Kappy's by chance for a quick bite: Sunday brunch. The menu has all the usual suspects and my go-to could not be denied: Eggs Benedict. I had the traditional one and it came out as a large portion and tasted great. As a pre-game we had the Bacon Sampler and it was tasty! The portions are sizable and everything tasted great! Not to mention our friendly waitress. The only thing that left me disappointed was the wall of caricatures... are they famous people? friends? "Whoooooo?!" Came in late afternoon for early dinner. Ordered prime rib medium rare and Filet mignon stroganoff medium well. Prime rib was more medium well at best and filet was well done and dry the mushroom is sauce was salty. We were surprised there was no bread or dinner roll to be served with dinner. A 3% service charge on the bill? It clearly indicated on the bill 3% service fee will apply to credit card transactions. You already charged me on the bill! Our server said they will take it off if paid with cash or debit card. They did take the 3% off when I paid with debit card. But you should not charge me ahead of time ! read more

very disappointed. It used to be the place to go. It took the almost 15 minutes to see us when there was open tables and no one in front of us. The woman ignored us and kept doing her paperwork while we stood by the register. We sat down and waited at least another 15 minutes before someone came to give us water. We were asked if we wanted anything else we had set a Diet Coke. The Diet Coke never came until we ordered it a second time. The food was just OK. I think they have altered their prices to accommodate inflation and the portions were actually small. I'll be about a dollar to two dollars cheaper than the places where they charge more and actually give you a real size entrée. We ordered a kids meal and obviously the kid who was sitting there wasn't actually quiet. They never put the order in. We finished our meal and we just got the kids meal. The manager, you kindly refunded the $6.50 for the kids meal. However, now we had a toddler who was ready for bed, but did not have any food in her stomach. We came here on a Thursday night around 7pm. We were seated right away. The restaurant is pretty large and spacious with tall ceilings. They have booths and all different sizes of low tables. Our waiter was very kind and asked us right away for our drink order and came back in the perfect amount of time for our dinner order. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage special for Thursday... It came with steamed celery, potatoes,and a side of horseradish along with either a soup or salad. I picked a salad with no tomatoes and blue cheese dressing. It was basically lettuce and one large cucumber slice. It was definitely fresh and crunchy. Will definitely order this again. So delicious My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash with pancakes and scrambled eggs. He liked it and would order it again. This long standing restaurant is a staple and so convenient for a simple meal. Easy to access from harlem or touhy with an ample parking lot, my husband goes here often with his family but this was my first time joining them in a decade. We were there mid afternoon on a very snowy Sunday so the place was mostly empty so they could accommodate our table of 6 (although it did take them a few mins to push the tables together before they'd let us sit). Our server was cheerful and speedy. She had no issues accommodating and remembering that I wanted no ice in my water. The atmosphere is open and felt spacious with few other customers. Nice diner feeling. The food came quickly and the quality was as to be expected at a diner for the prices. The chicken noodle soup was chock full of noodles which surprised me as I thought I'd be mostly broth. My sister in law ordered the hot honey fried chicken and thought it was fine but it was quite thin with more breading than chicken. I had the tuna sandwich and was shocked at how much tuna there was and not overly mayo based. The bread could come toasted or not and mine was nicely toasted. The only problem is I'd ordered whole wheat and got multigrain. When the server saw it, she just said she gave them the right order. Not an offer to bring me whole wheat. Not a big deal but the seeds can irritate my ibs so I generally avoid them. Still, it was tasty and filling. And the pickle is snappy an delicious. Lived in Niles since 1998 and this was my first time here and it will not be my last perfect spot after landing from 6am flight . Basically had the diner to myself . Walking in looks updated an repainted , the patio would be perfect for day lunch . our waitress was nice and gave us great selections . The food was fresh made to order being the first guest in food was not sitting . Early morning to yourself is probably my favorite time to go . Was in the area for a concert and wanted matzo ball soup. A quick Google suggested Kappy's. So that's what we did. Except I ended up with cream of chicken soup because that's my #1 fav. My husband ordered the matzo ball (love him for that!) & let me have a taste. I had the grecian style skirt steak as my entree. Its your typical neighborhood brunch place. The first time i ordered the meat lovers skillet and their mash potato. The 2nd time i ordered the squsage egg and toast. They do have a lunch and dinner menu that I want to try sometime! This place is always packed but service is quick enough that you dont really wait that long. Parking isnt an issue as well. I enjoyed Liz's portabella skillet that I got. It was nicely cooked and seasoned. It came with 2 breads of my choice with jams. It was overall a big portion so I ended up taking the leftover home. It was the second time coming here and it was quite busy on a late Sunday morning. Kappy's mid-century building looks really cool and so is the American menu and flag. There are no surprises here, just a great place for breakfast and brunch (haven't eaten here for lunch or dinner yet). Plenty of parking too, it's part of a strip mall. I've enjoyed having their fluffy omelets and fluffy pancakes. Make sure to have a glass of whole milk and live a little, along with your coffee. I got a side of steak and that was cooked perfectly and was a nice size for a side order!! We had a toddler with us as part of our dining party and they do offer crayons and even took him to the back of the kitchen to check out the action. :) Kappy's is a nice community spot, with old timers and families filling up the tables. About a 1-1.5: Kappy's has been around for years, and they offer an extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu as well as catering options. We came here for breakfast, and we ordered: +the Kappy's Benedict - an eggs benedict-style with English muffins, housemade prime rib hash, poached eggs, and a Chipotle hollandaise sauce; this is served with hash browns - the prime rib hash had an off-putting odor to them - not sure if they were days/weeks old, but they were not fresh at all - you can tell by the smell of the cubed meat, and it seemed as if they reheated in some way; they were extremely dried out and stringy +a Farmers skillet - served with corned beef hash, onions, hash browns, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses with eggs and toast of choice +a Denver Omelette - prepared with ham, green peppers, and onions, and served with hash browns and toast, or you can substitute pancakes in lieu of instead The portions are indeed generous, but the flavors were definitely lacking; adding salt, pepper, and hot sauce didn't really help. The hash browns seemed to be pre-cooked and lacked any crispiness. All the items were served lukewarm and not off-the-grill and freshly-prepared as we assumed. Our server was extremely gruff and borderline rude in terms of taking our orders and especially the tone she was using when speaking with us - is it that hard to be just nice? She also never checked-in with us throughout our dining experience, as we needed extra plates, silverware, refills on the coffee, etc. - it took some time to get our check and boxes as well, in which another friendly server actually stopped by to assist. Customer service was slow, waitress was super nice but she kept giving everyone the wrong orders. My chicken wrap had good flavor but was super dry and the tomatoes on it felt rubbery. Kappy's is a neighborhood diner located in a shopping plaza in Morton Grove. This wasn't my first trip to Kappy's and it probably won't be my last. The servers are fast and very fluent on the menu and the soups of the day. The quality of the food, regrettably has been sliding down a bit. Maybe I can make an excuse that it was the middle of the week (Thursday), but I can't be that gracious. The eponymous Kappy's Burger was a charred puck, through and through. Most of the breakfast omelet was good, but the shredded potatoes were stale from being overcooked or re-cooked. The lamb was not very flavorful. Went here Sunday after Church No wait for a table, which was nice. They have a mandatory service charge for dining. I don't feel like that is warranted, since it's no longer covid. They also charge you a service charge for using your credit card. The menu prices are not cheap to begin with. They self proclaimed their pancakes were the best in the area. I would rate them as forgettable, if it was not for the burnt one at the bottom of the stack Omelet was over cooked. The food was good, and prices were fair. The service was not good, could not get a refill on coffee if my life depended on it. Waitress never came around to see how things were during the meal. It was not a busy time, it was after the morning rush, and the restaurant was only half full. I feel bad if the bussers are relying on a percentage of the waitresses' tips, as the bussers deserve it more than our waitress. I went to Kappy's when I was a wee lad, and was surprised to see this place still open. I decided to take the kids here for nostalgia. The place has definitely been updated since. Inside, there were plenty of booths and tables. The outdoor seating area was somehow closed. With the boys and I, we ordered: - Mama Alpoganis Meatloaf -- it came with mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy was interestingly orange. Despite that, my son really liked it - Pot Roast -- this was my pick. The gravy was more traditional brown, and came with several slices of pot roast. The meat was OK... it wasn't seasoned as well as I hoped, but the gravy covered it, literally and figuratively. The mashed potato was good - Jumbo shrimp basket -- my son got this one as he was craving shrimp and fries. We were all surprised by the large shrimp (or shrimpS?) and the amount as well. This was good. All entrees came with soup or salad. The boys got the matzo ball soup, which I had a couple of bites (or is it sips?) and it was pretty good. The broth wasn't too salty, but just right, mixed with the matzo ball. I went with the cream of potato. It was really good as well. Service was really good.
