The drinks were pretty good and interesting, you are able to customize whatever coffees or teas you get with 10+ flavors. The food was pretty good but with limited selection only 6 things to choose from but considering its a lunch and breakfast place, it makes sense. The ladies at the till were really nice and patience when it came to my mom's heavy accent, and the workers brought our food right to us pretty quickly, ~10 mins. The cafe is situated right under The Edison which is a pretty brick building, its looks like some sort of vintage warehouse in the middle of a pretty and social park and amphitheater. read more

Anytime I go to Cascades Park, I like to swing by the Power Plant. My favorite order right now is an iced cappuccino and a Hungry Tesla (bagel filled with all the breakfast meats). At $13ish, it's not the cheapest breakfast in town, but it's tasty and filling, and you can sit inside and watch tv or (my preference) sit outside and enjoy the view. You can order inside at the bar or outside at the window. They accept Apple Pay, so I don't even bring my wallet. The staff are super friendly and helpful and will bring your food to you if you don't feel like waiting by the window. They also sell beer, white claw, mimosas and even spiked milk shakes. read more

They were out of a lot of items.. CHEF complained about being sick and being there. We ordered a BBQ flat bread and got a Buffalo one. My son indicated how spicy it was. A great ambiance, for obvious reasons, but the service and quality of the coffee can be rough at times. You couldn't choose a better location for a coffee shop! The Power Plant is located in Cascades, beneath the Edison restaurant, with one of the single most relaxing views a coffee shop could possibly have. Just outside the doors is a waterfall, which gets even better if you hang around until it gets dark, as it is lit up. The coffee, "energized by Catalina Cafe," is well roasted and of the same great quality as I have come to expect from their other cafe in Tallahassee. I used to do most of my studying here in grad school, as it has WIFI and provides a calm, quiet atmosphere for work. The building itself is beautiful, a sort of chic historic vibe. It's perfect for a spot to work or read outside on their patio and sip their coffee. Yet, despite this perfect setting, the service could use some work here. The last couple times I've been in, there's been a long wait for no apparent reason and the coffee just hasn't been made well. And this not just from me, but from the whole group I was with. Hopefully they shape up before this sends things into a spiral, but this cafe otherwise seems to have lacked real, consistent service since it opened. read more

This place has the best location. Right in cascades park, you can take a quick pit stop from a nice walk and get something to drink/munch on. Unfortunately, we had really poor service here. It took over 20 minutes for our breakfast sandwich. We would've cancelled the order and left but there was no one attending to customers. Hopefully, it was an isolated hiccup. Five stars because I was able to camp out and get some solid work done with great fuel to boot. While seeking a coffeeshop to hunker down, Power Plant seemed like a good bet. With light streaming through the windows and outlets aplenty, I ordered a cold brew and prepared to conquer my inbox. After a couple hours, hunger pangs struck and I ordered a turkey and brie sandwich with chips on the side. They don't have a super extensive menu, but just enough to find something. They had an array of enticing baked goods to pair with my sandwich, but I resisted. Besides that, I really appreciated the water cooler, clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. I would totally return next time I'm in Tallahassee to hang out once again. read more

While on a walk through Cascades, stopped by for a bite to eat. I got the Tomato, bacon, cream cheese, and Swiss cheese sandwich, which I at first thought was gonna be a bagel. Oh how happy I was to learn it was a sandwich and packed with bacon and cream cheese. The effort to launch the brand here at Power Plant clings tenaciously to the Catalina Cafe management. It's been a joy to watch the space mature into what it was truly intended for. Without a doubt the most disgusting food I've had in Tallahassee, if not ever. I'll start by saying the young lady working was a doll, very helpful and generous. 5 stars for her service. But, back to how terrible this food was. I got the chicken pita tacos. Typically you'd expect cut chicken or shredded chicken. Nope, this was chicken mush. I can't explain how bad it was. I'd honestly consider eating dog shit before trying those tacos again. I didn't even ask to try my dates food, she took one bite and had a worse reaction than I did. The cold brew tastes like old coffee went cold and stale so they throw ice on it and resell it as cold brew. By no means insinuating that's what they do, that's just what it tastes like. Tbh, this is without a doubt the worst food I think I've ever had in my life. Not to mention for the price of the tacos, I could have gotten a fresh mahi mahi filet from Harry's for cheaper and actually have something edible presented to me. I'm not even a picky eater, this food is just God awful. Literally the worst. If it wasn't for the view, I don't see how this place could remain open on its own. This is my absolute favorite cafe! It's in a great location because it overlooks cascades park. This is a great place to study and relax, or just read a book. The service is always good and the workers always have recommendations if you're not sure what to try. My favorite meal is the bagel with egg and cheese that they have at breakfast, and it pairs perfectly with their chai tea latte. Definitely a must go spot! read more

When I think of my ideal coffee shop, The Power Plant Cafe is what comes to mind. This cafe is one of the best in Tallahassee by far. Whether to spend the day studying away or meeting friends for lunch or stopping by for coffee during your walk through the park, Power Plant is very much worth it. The cafe is located next to The Edison in Cascades Park and likewise has a gorgeous view of the color-changing waterfall for customers sitting outside. Inside, you will find the main room with several tables, and an adjacent room with a giant table for group studying. Along with the gorgeous view, Power Plant stands out to me for their unique coffee options; they go above and beyond the required standards of coffee shops. Zoe's Revenge 4/5 This vengeful latte is a comforting blend of white chocolate and tiramisu. I loved the taste of this latte; it was thankfully not as sweet as I thought it would be from the white chocolate. However, I hoped for a stronger flavor from the tiramisu. Also, the latte really upset my stomach afterwards perhaps due to the milk. Caramel Coconut Cold Brew 5/5 Such a creamy and overall very nice taste from this cold brew. The caramel added a good amount of sweet and I could taste pieces of shredded coconut as well. I would definitely get this again. Pressed Grilled Veggie 5/5 You wouldn't think a vegetarian sandwich could be filling, but this one is. A perfect blend of goat cheese and veges, this sandwich was amazing. In town for a wedding, I stayed at the AC Hotel. This cafe is right behind and didn't require any driving so I checked it out for lunch. Got the chicken pita tacos, raspberry lemonade, and 7 layer bar. The chicken pita tacos were huge and I could only finish one because of the size. Raspberry lemonade was good, but I wasn't blown away. Everyone was ordering coffee so I would be interested in going back and trying one. Cashier was super sweet and the service was really fast. The area is very nice, which is what drew me to it. The food was very good, but I think $14 for a sandwich that doesn't have a side is a bit much. I definitely think they need to improve their current way of bringing food to tables. You order at the window and they take a name and then come out later yelling - and there were multiple times our party couldn't hear them at all. There's music playing and they didn't walk over toward our side of the patio when yelling. It just doesn't make any sense. Maybe provide table numbers when ordering that the guest can place at their table so you can more easily identify where food goes? It seems like the current set up is very aggravating for both customers and staff. read more

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... shame on me. (Disclosure: this post was written in the heat of the moment. This feeling will pass... I hope) I am so crushed because this used to be my favorite places to get a lox bagel. This may be, not only the worst bagel/lox bagel I have ever had but, the worst solution to the worst lox bagel I have ever had. I stopped by late morning to grab breakfast/lunch (10am on a Wednesday) and ordered the lox bagel. She said they no longer give discounts to FDOT employees... but also said she doesn't know how to do it... so I'm guessing it's a training issue. Whatever. Best lox bagel is worth full price. I'm only a civil servant ‍. I ordered it to-go to enjoy at my desk. But what I found is a caper and tomato bagel. With cream cheese. On maybe a third of the bagel? I normally don't complain but when the lox is missing on an $8 lox bagel for the first and last meal you will have for a while, you at least pick up the phone. BUT their phone rings directly to voicemail WHICH the mailbox is full. I'm hangry at this point so I get in my car and head over for a refund (and maybe a new bagel?). Because that is how restaurants handle righting wrongs, right? As soon as I see this poor girl having to deal with a two whole customers at once I immediately calm down. She's stressed. When it's my turn I tell her it's missing lox and she immediately snatches it to remedy - without letting me just suggest a refund. Please don't just throw some lox on the already horrid bagel, I pray to myself (please enjoy the pictures). When she brings it back out a few minutes later I think, damn maybe she did remake it? That was remaking a bagel amount of time! I didn't have the balls to check behind her, so I leave. I saw a peek of lox sticking out (yes the same horrid bagel). But I'm too hungry at this point. When I get back in my car I open it to find! 5 small chunks of lox on one site of this horrid bagel. I'm already not the person who complains. I've already left work like a lunatic to fix a bagel. I already haven't eaten today and it's close to 11am by now. So I drive off. Defeated. I feel for the poor girl who works at a coffee/breakfast place alone during an understaffed shift... but actually I don't because I have worked an understaffed shift and this if not a solution. GUYS GO TO CATALINA Literally the prettiest coffee shop in town and smack dab in the middle of Cascades Park which is always a joy to visit on an nice day. Environment is a 10. Beautiful scenery, dogs everywhere, and always good place to get some studying done and not feeling like I'm trapped in a library. I can't speak to the coffee since caffeine gets me way too hyper. But consistently love my fresh ice teas, lemonades, or Arnold palmers I get here. I also tried one of their scones that their worker suggested which was delicious. Talk about a brew with a view! Power Plant, located just under The Edison and 'energized' by Catalina Cafe, is a gorgeous little coffee shop right in the middle of Cascades Park. With both inside and outside seating available, you can enjoy your coffee beverage of choice either while basking in the sun or hiding behind a book. There is something for everyone from espressos to cappuccinos and chai lattes to cold brews. Their kitchen is open until 4 if you're looking to grab a bite as well. The Lox Bagel is to die for with an explosion of flavors coming at you all at once! They also have a variety of other sandwiches and pastries to choose from. While it may get a little pricey depending on what you purchase, the ambiance and location is well worth the visit. The tables are also large enough to spread your books out on and spend the afternoon studying. Personally, after spending a few hours studying, a nice walk around the park before I get back to hitting the books always makes me feel refreshed (along with the coffee of course!). I really like this space, both inside and out. You can't escape the building's history as a power plant itself, so the naming of this cafe is perfect. The coffee itself is quite good - if you've been to the two other Catalina cafe's (Gaines, Capital Circle) then you know. This is a dope little spot on town. I met a friend here to study this weekend. I order the tuna melt with avocado and a Black (My fav way to drink it). The sandwich was good and the atmosphere is cool too! I met Cynthia one of the managers for the Edison who kindly gave me a tour and also showed me how to get down to the The Power Plant since I entered upstairs. UPDATE: Third times a charm! They've worked out delivering food efficiently by using table signs that use coffee related names rather than numbers (a nice touch). And the food was warm and came out quickly. One negative: they still don't carry black tea (each of last three times, over many weeks, they say that they're out). A great turn around in service!! ORIGINAL UPDATED REVIEW: I hate to do this, but I'm taking my rating down to 2 stars. And that's to reflect the view, which is awesome, and the food, which is good. But the service is terrible. I thought the poor service our first time was an anomaly, but sadly it seems that poor service is as good as it gets. After waiting 45 minutes for breakfast sandwiches, I'm told by person who took order that they've had problems with orders going to kitchen in new system. Fine. But where was the order she wrote down? Oh! She gave it to the kitchen. Well....where's the food? Told by manager that an employee put the paper order in her pocket and then left the restaurant. Seriously? They comped some scones and said they'd make order asap. Then the order comes out wrong. Despite it being written down correctly. Sad. Even more baffling: when they bring out food they walk around aimlessly trying to see who ordered it. For every order, every time. Frequently going in and out of building to patio, and then delivering luke warm food. Maybe they could think about using table stands with numbers? Just a thought.
