Clear Springs is special. My family looks forward to it every time we're in town. Like floating down the Comal or the Guadalupe it's part of the visit, it's why you're there. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it's got a home like feel. The staff always treats you like family. It's my daughter's birthday and she wanted to float down the river. So that means a trip to Clear Springs. First up a small order of onion rings. They were so good, the crisp outer batter and thick onions. Next up my youngest had the Shrimp Po Boy. It had a nice flavor from lettuce tomatoes and tangy dressing. The shrimp were fried well. My oldest daughter had the Fish Tacos. They were bright and fresh but needed a little more zing. My son had the Combination (fish and fried crawfish)- the crawfish were tasty and had a good batter. My Seafood Grill was amazing. The shrimp brochettes were amazing, loved the grilled catfish. I'm not usually a fan of blackened catfish but this one was good. My wife had the cup of Cajun Gumbo. It wasn't bad but it was chunky and that's not my style. We ended with the Chocolate Cake for dessert since it was my oldest daughter's birthday. I am writing to share feedback regarding a recent dining experience at your establishment. My boyfriend and I were looking forward to our visit, as he has frequented your restaurant for lunch in the past and spoke very highly of the food and the location's historical significance. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. Upon checking in, we were initially directed to a table that had not been cleaned. When my boyfriend politely asked if we could be seated at a booth that was currently being cleared, the host initially agreed. However, she then seated two other guests, who were white and had arrived after us at that same booth. Given the circumstances and the subsequent request to wait for a different table, this incident opened our eyes to potential racial bias, and we felt it was best to leave and dine elsewhere. I believe your host staff would benefit from additional training regarding equitable service and professional conduct. It is truly a shame that our visit was handled in this manner, as we had hoped for a much more welcoming evening. First of all, this place was packed. But that's a sign the food is good. We waited about 45 min to be seated on summer Friday recently and it as worth it. The wait staff was fast and friendly. The fish, shrimp, chicken, all seasoned well and fried nice and crispy!!! They had a lot of cool antique like decor and even had a bit of upstairs seating that overlooked the rest of the restaurant. First off, we walked in around 6 and there was no wait at all. We were seated super quickly, and our server, Tayla, was amazing and very attentive the whole time. The vibe there is so chill and relaxing, it immediately makes you feel comfortable. The food was so good. I got the chicken plate and omg, it was cooked perfectly, juicy, flavorful, and honestly one of the best I've had. I also loved the mashed potatoes and green beans. My date got the catfish plate. He always orders there, and he said it was just as good as always. And the onion rings appetizer? Easily the best. Here we go again... Went 2 wks ago @ 8:20pm arrival & had terrible service. We were rushed out the door after a sub-par meal. Clearly, all staff's- right up to the floor mgr- had one objective and that was to go home that night- at the expense of our dining experience. Literally told to finish up they close at 9pm, offered our cups to be refilled if needed at 8:50pm b/c they were dumping everything out! Last night, Thursday 8/6, we subjected ourselves again b/c out of town guests really wanted to go. Again, service was sub-par at Best, food was decent. We eat out a lot in NB- minimum three times per week... Might I suggest y'all take a hard look at retraining staff from the top down that customer service is King! Not trying to give unpaid plugs at your expense... But, Gristmill and Gruene River Grill have awesome customer service and when you leave, you truly feel like they valued your presence and made your experience top-notch. We had a party of 23 to celebrate the upcoming wedding, no problem for Karin S our server. Once all our party was present our server got us drinks, appetizers, and then we got our perfectly ordered dishes. The long list of dishes ordered was received without error. Our server checked on us multiple times. I love how this place is decorated, it's been around for some time now and it keeps getting better. A fantastic family restaurant. Most of the food is fried and they are famous for their catfish and hand made onion rings. The atmosphere is awesome. They are were very busy. This place gets packed, so If you are picky about your drink refills and little things like that, you might be a bit harder on them than me. I personally try not to sweat the small stuff. I focus on the food (massive portions) and the vibe. The catfish is ridiculously delicious. The garlic mashed potato's are a must! I don't drink alcohol but they have an amazing selection of bottled and canned beer! This made my dad happy. My mom got the chicken fried chicken. The garlic shrimp was as great as usual. This post is about the awful service we received. Our server,genesia,or something like that,was rude, inattentive and unprofessional. While asking for to go items she mutters" oh my god"under her breath. Like we were a bother. I didn't hear it,my daughter did. There was some trash in the floor.instead of picking it up,she just kicked over by the computer station. Over all we felt,we're treated,like we were a nuisance rather than guests. Our party was big and our waitress did a great job! My complaint is about the server who brought the food I don't know her name but she said was so rude. She kept yelling who had a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fries and I said "he had a chicken fried chicken with those sides" and she said "well I'm talking about a chicken fried steak not a chicken fried chicken". All for it to be the last plate and no one was claiming and again she aggressively said "so no one got a chicken fried steak?" To which we answered again "no he had a chicken fried chicken with those sides". My family has come here for years and never once have had a rude server. No one came around to apologize for her behavior and many people heard it. I understand having to yell and talk loudly because of a large party but the attitude was uncalled for. read more

This is a stop you must add to your Texas hill country experience. The location and building and decor is worth seeing and dining in. You won't run out of things to look at when inside. Don't get frightened by how many people are waiting. This place is huge inside, lots of seating and the wait isn't bad. The staff was all very friendly and service was very fast. For the food, it was great as well. The menu isn't extensive, but several great options. The onion rings are a must! So delicious, the amount of onion in each ring is much more than usual and the batter was just right. The shrimp basket was good. The ranch for the salad was really good. IYKYK. Back home for a bit and I had to make a stop here. We came for lunch during the week with a 10-15 minute wait, luckily there was room to wait inside as the summer months can be a bit uncomfortable without ac. We got sat and immediately ordered since we already knew what we wanted. Small order of onion rings and small plate of catfish and chicken fried steak plate. Onion rings were great! Wow! The batter was perfection, nice and crispy. We also mix our ketchup with the hot sauce and it compliments it so well. The small size plate of catfish was the perfect size for me. It was so good. I got a small bowl of lemon slices and it made my day. I love the coleslaw also especially with the raw onion. The hush puppies were crisp on the outside and doughy on the inside. My husbands chicken fried steak was delicious. Great batter and the gravy....so good. We were super happy and really enjoyed our meal. We stopped eating the onion rings because we didn't want to be too full to eat the actual meal. The overall feel of the place is very genuine and definitely gives off the small town vibe! On a Friday night, it was BUSY! We waited about 45 minutes for a table for two but thankfully they have bars and outdoor seating available to those waiting to be seated. The only complaint I have is their check in system is a little problematic. While we waited, a few families got skipped because either the staff wrote down the wrong name and/or when they would call out the names and the families didn't hear. A host would go outside and yell "NAME, party of 2" and do the same inside but with all the patrons, music, and noises from the restaurant, it was hard to hear clearly. Overall good experience.
