The Project is a cross between a working man's bar and a 1970's old school lounge complete with red glass candles at the tables and a modern electronic internet jukebox that can play most any genre. I found the reviews stating it was a "dive" to be fantasy. I know dives--I'm a NAVY Veteran sailor. On a cloudy Sunday afternoon about 4 PM there was no sign of fights, topless women (or men), loud or crude talk, drugs, or any type of shenanigans. The outside is nondescript and very tidy. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed but also relieved as my wife was with me. We came for the food which the reviews of it being fantastic in the reality sense are true. Yes it is a bit dark, but when your eyes adjust you can see everything and everyone just fine. It is on the romantic/private side. The bar top is average to small, but several accommodating tables are spaced throughout some with cushioned captain's chairs. The place is CLEAN. The floor is NOT sticky. You can smell the smoke, but my wife has asthma and it did not bother her--it was sufficiently controlled with exhaust fans. I've had much worse in casinos. We did not come out smelling like ashtrays. The service is friendly and prompt. It is an all age adult place you would enjoy hanging out in drinking, eating, watching TV, meeting friends in a chill/relaxed environment. Three ladies ran the bar while we were there--no bouncer or cops on duty. No cover charge. The Food: We were searching for a good burger. Theirs is called "The Best Burger on the Coast." Believe Dat pretty much. NOLA "dressed" like you want it and get chips or potato salad. The potato salad is a no miss--get it. It's a high quality recipe of sour cream base. The meats are cooked to order and to taste over flame--NOT a flat top. The rib-eye sandwich IS the best on the coast. Dressed on French bread it is tender, smoky, and again NOLA style; that means it is marinated in the classic Worcester sauce marinade we from the area all know and love. An over-stuff it is generous size of a good 5 ounces or so--heavenly quality cut with just the right amount of flame kissed fat. They have other stuff according to the table top menu. Read it in the top light of the candle and old folks bring some spectacles--but why bother with anything else? The burgers and rib-eye sandwiches are outrageously great. All beer is in the bottle. Yes you MUST bring cash. For 1 burger, 1 rib-eye sandwich and $1 each for sub potato salad no chips, 2 Dos Equis Green, 1 Shiner Bock, 1 ginger ale our tab was $28.50. That made our experience a double take. Yeah, maybe in the 70's we had bar tabs that cheap with groceries. Needless to say we are now huge fans. We didn't get cut, shot, or hit on. My husband and I went there because of the reviews of this place. They claimed it was the best burger in town not. Cooked to death and served on a paper plate. We had to ask for cutlery which was plastic. I ordered the steak sandwich which was the house special. WOW, is all I can say. I asked for it medium and it was so rare the fat ( which there was a lot of it) was still white. I couldn't bite it nor could I cut it on the paper plate with my plastic cutlery. First off bring cash. There's a sign there and if reading is not your thing, this isn't a place you should go. Staff are super friendly. Majority of customers are locals. The best burger on the Coast, bar none! I get the cheeseburger with jalapenos and every time is like the first time. It's just the right amount of juicy and the flavor sticks around in the best possible way. There are no windows in there so you can easily lose track of the day but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This place is one of my favorite bars on the Coast. The only real negative is that it's cash only but that's not nearly negative enough to affect it's rating. Definitely check this place out if you haven't yet. read more

The past several times I visited, it took a while to get drinks, even on slow nights. The bartenders did not like to be interrupted from their conversations, and were rude. The burgers didn't even taste as great as they normally do. Probably not coming back, but I will be generous and leave 3 stars and assume they just had a bad few weeks. read more

The food was great. The problem was that the server never came to check on us (and there were not many customers). She was just talking to her friends. The drinks were cheap and strong. But the customers there were using offensive language ("nigger") and the staff didn't say anything to them. She came to my table and just said "sorry about that". read more

The Project Lounge....this place has some stories. I'd never been here until after Katrina. I had at least 3 friends working here during that time bar tending and cooking. I used to hang here pretty frequently. I also used to smoke so there's that. This place is the epitome of dive bar. It's super dark, extremely smokey and I'm sure if the house lights came on, the place would be nicotine yellow. It's cash only, they only let you start a tab is you're sitting at the bar. They don't have Maker's Mark but they do have Wild Turkey 101, I'll take it. They're known for their steak sandwich. It's a thin sliced whole steak cooked to order and served on fresh french bread with lettuce, tomato and mayo. If you know what's good for you, you'll add pepper jack and grilled onions. Your waistline will thank me later. If you're not feeling the steak sandwich, they also have killer burgers, sausage sandwiches and grilled cheese's(on french bread to boot). Don't come here with any pretense because you'll be immediately disappointed. Also, if you don't like cigarette smoke, don't wear your 'good clothes'. read more

I can't think of a single time I've been to Biloxi in the past few years and NOT dropped into the Project Lounge. It is the dive bar of all dive bars, but my god, those ribeye sandwiches are the stuff of dreams. The drinks are cheap and STRONG, two of my favorite things of all time. And the jukebox is amazing. The bartenders have always been great. It's awesome to hang out and strike up a conversation with the locals (don't talk politics for your own safety if you've ever voted Democratic) or with the boys from the AFB. I'm looking forward to popping in here over the Thanksgiving holidays. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was due to the fact that folks can smoke in there. Yuk. read more

A friend took me here to get "the best steak sandwich on the Coast". Who wouldn't want the knowledge of the one place that owns that title, so I'm in. We pull into the parking lot on a hot, summer day. Yes, it's right next to the tracks. I've been in my share of dives and this will be one more, so in we go. The place is DARK. Cave dark. Back to the womb dark. Takes my eyes 3 min to adjust. It's lunch time on Tuesday and the bar is about one fourth full. The others don't seem to be there for lunch, though. The waitress was prompt and we of course ordered two dressed steak sandwiches. Five minutes later had two hot steak sandwiches with chips and a pickle spear. The steak is well cooked and salty. Probably marinated in Dale's overnight. The bread is a ok and absorbs the juice. The steak was fatty in a good way. It's not the best steak on the Coast, but in the right way and at the right time, I believe this may be the best steak sandwich on the Coast. read more

This bar is located within walking distance of the holiday inn where I stayed. Their prices were fair, the staff friendly, but the food was the real kicker. The secret is in the sauce that they put on the sandwiches and burgers. Overall, a great place to get a drink or a bite away from all the touristy spots and i most definitely will be back for more! read more

Been several times both for drinks & to eat, & am definitely a fan. Unfortunately, this visit was not so great, in that NONE of the 4 different beers we ordered were even remotely cold. Did someone forget to stock the coolers the night before? Is the staff not rotating the beer when they are stocking? Something was definitely not right to receive 4 luke-warm beers at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Will still return since this was the 1st let down visit. read more
