What poke? What food? This place is at best comparable to a gas station store. We seriously drove 6 miles to get here to be so severely let down. They sell minimal food and total junk souvenirs. If I needed toilet paper or a sandwich wrapped in plastic made who knows where who knows when this would have been perfect place. Yuck. read more

Came from out of town based on the great Poké reviews. Bought some local organic greens and microwave-ready coconut rice to go with it. Poke was awesome- very fresh! Ended up buying a lot of locally- made foods and other random things I didn't know I needed. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for! read more

Forget about the aloha maid Hawaiian juice on yelp, they said they know nothing about it. That was awkward when I asked for it, they don't want to ask their manager and they show a face like they don't even care. We took sandwiches and salads, everything is insanely salty. Chef Noah mixes fabulous flavors together that are just scrumptious and work. I hired him for several days of catered lunches and the brisket was moist and so tasty and the Cob salad with chicken was so yummy everyone raved. Love the fact he uses local meat and vegetables. For the life of me, I can't understand the raves about this place. Very limited inventory (NO BREAD!), no price tags on anything, closes 6 pm. This little store is the unofficial capitol of Puako. All the residents of Puako stop in daily to chat with Narand and get the current news. Narand is what makes Puako such a great community and nothing would function right without him and his store. The shop is exactly what you would expect a beachside market to look like. He's got all of the necessities and then some. It's great to stop by and rent a movie or grab some snacks before heading to the beach. You'll never meet a nicer or more helpful person than Narand. read more

Well worth a stop if you're in the area. This general store really does have a little bit of everything, but the real find here is Wayne, who runs the place. My boyfriend and I came in search of some fresh cut pineapple after a morning of bicycling around the area. We were sad to find that the "aloha bowls" that were pictured in another review weren't available when we visited. But Wayne came to the rescue and told us how amazing the mangoes were that day. 2 mangoes, 2 cups of yogurt, and a loaf of homemade passion fruit bread- BEST BREAKFAST EVER!!!! We got plenty of napkins from Wayne and even some wet-naps to clean up after. How nice! The store itself carries alcohol, DVDs, snacks, fresh produce, and some lunch options at reasonable prices (considering that everything around here is expensive.) Go on and grab a snack for your travels and meet one of the nicest guys around. read more

Great little store with a variety of items needed and wanted. Wine at great prices, booze, cheese wrapped Italian meats, fresh local produce (the guacamole we made from all the produce - so good), chips, sunscreen, newspapers and some gluten free baked goods. Water selection was a little scarce, but I think we were there right before a shipment. Stop in for a little snack or beverage to have at your resort. read more

I think that since November 2019, the store has changed ownership hands from Mary Fox to another local family. I'm happy to hear that it will stay in business as it's the heart of the community. Nice family run store in Puako. They have a little of everything. Fruit, beer, wine, food, ice cream, coffee, snacks, video rental, pizza, beach supplies, you name it. Basically a perfect small general store for the Kohala coast. We used to stop by everyday when we lived down there. If you are in the area I highly recommend supporting this store. They are the friendliest on the coast. read more

Felt so good to buy things away from the resort at reasonable prices to stock up our mini fridge and fill our cooler! Nice people there and got to listen to the live broadcast of the whales as we shopped. Breath of fresh air and it just felt good putting our money in local hands. read more

Best poke we had on any island and we had quite a bit of poke. Seriously, the depth of flavors was unsurpassed by anything we had anywhere during our vacation including Umeke's in Kona. We had the chef's choice and told him that we both like spicy. The first poke had habanero in it, had a sweet upfront taste but with a little bit of heat coming in the end giving it and nice contrast and perfect balance between sweat, salty, and spicy. The second poke we had was a Serrano poke which was a little hotter up front but had a cool finish with the seaweed salad taking a little of the pepper's edge off. I give both poke's extremely high marks. We bought a couple bottles of wine and a macadamia nut tart to complete the meal. The wine price was decent relative to other options in the area. We ate the tart for a breakfast on another day which was perfect as we were so full from poke (we ate the leftovers for breakfast the next day and it was still delicious). The tart was buttery and sweet and made for a scrumptious treat for the two of us to share. We also got some pimento cheese and chips for an appetizer. We couldn't finish it, but it too was delicious. I can't recommend this place highly enough especially for their poke. The ordering system is a little strange, there is no counter or designated poke place...just order it with the cashier. I would go out of my way to stop there, but considering I stayed at the Mauna Kea (and likely will always only stay there since it is so gorgeous) it was essentially on the way to the resort. It's a secret hidden gem, but honestly it should be a destination spot for the poke alone. read more
