Brewery and pub with a full bar and food, everything encompassed into one package. Old fashioned was decently made, except the ice was a regular cube and melted way too fast. We all enjoyed our food and drinks, which was served with a smile. Ambiance is simple, functional and appropriate for the environment. Maybe we caught them on a good day, but was surprised by the 3.5 stars...4 is more appropriate in my humble opinion.

We knew this was going to be our first stop on our coast camping adventure. We were not disappointed in any way. I started with the Bourbon Honey Scrimshaw and my wife had the Cherry Weiss beer and they were both tasty and fresh. Our bartender, who was great also took our order. I had the clam chowder and shrimp and chips. My wife had the special of the day the loaded waffle fries with green chilis, bacon and beer cheese. Fantastic combo of items that we almost finished. We sat in the bar to eat and the decor and seating was ample. We are here before the summer rush so we were seated immediately. We are already planning on going back Thursday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).

Dined on the patio during happy hour, the restaurant was busy and service was not very interested in our table. Extremely long waits for everything, had to flag down busboys for water refills as this was not a priority on the patio. A $9 Paloma and a Mexican draft on pint night for $5.50 was not terrible, but you do pay a premium or the lovely patio ambiance. We didn't order more drinks, but had a tough time getting water or our bill. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered a shrimp ceviche as my dinner. It was quite tasty and had plenty of chips. I loved the bog scoop of fresh guacamole on the top. Husband ordered the brew house burger with cheddar cheese. It had a lovely pretzel bun and nice battered fries. Because we waited so long, we got offered a desert on the house, and enjoyed a terrific tuxedo mousse cake. Turned a 3 star review into 4 stars by acknowledging the problem and offering to make it right.

We went with great experience expectations my husband loves their beer. We wondered why this place was rated so low. And now we know. I debated giving this place a low rating . Why? I don't mind waiting when I have not reserved a table. But I do like to be acknowledged and told I need to wait. We were waiting in line to be seated and the lady pretended she didn't see us. For 10 full mins. Even though she was standing right in front of us. She was doing what seemed like admin stuff. Then she said we had a 45 mins wait even though tables were empty. Inside and outside. Then I asked if we could sit at the bar because we drive a long distance to Come here. . She said yes and then told us we couldn't order food at the bar. The bar staff was very busy and we had to wait a bit before we even got a menu. Other people were offered the food menu at the bar. We were not. We left after one drink. My drink- the Bloody Mary looked amazing. Tasted ok. But that was recommended by the kind lady next to me who literally ordered it for me. We left with a bitter taste and not because of the beer.

We stopped in a for quick snack. I can't comment on the beer because I'm not a beer drinker. My girlfriend is and she loved it. The food though looks very appealing. I had the coconut shrimp which was delicious and the pretzel was also good. Cute little spot seemed very busy outside inside. I think they could've used a little bit more help. My husband had to get up twice to ask for water if they had one extra person would've been good. Also, they set six of us at a very small table. We probably could've added a second table to make it more comfortable.

The ahi nachos were delicious! Great service and very friendly staff. The clam chowder was super flavorful too. Highly recommend!

ONLY ALCOHOL was purchased, so unfortunately do not know how the food is. With that said I was very happy with their beer selection. They offer flights which everyone is a fan of because you get to try a little of everything. We showed up in the middle of the day. It was very empty yet the service was on the slower end. Flight of beer was served on a very creative way - the actual beers on the "menu" of what you are trying so you have an idea of what is what.

Came in on a Saturday around 6:15 and sat in the bar area which was open seating. It was very busy but with some patience the very busy bartender came by and took our order at 6:30. Ordered 2 drink and 2 meals. We received our food at 6:55. We were on a time crunch trying to make it to the skunk train by 7:15 so we ate fairly fast. The ambience and vibes were nice. Lively and busy for a Saturday night along with a NFL playoff game on. Clam Chowder was very flavorful. Caesar salad was not creamy but more a watery dressing. Not my favorite. Carolina pork sandwich was good! Lots of pork meat but the bun got soggy very fast.

The Pub at North Coast Brewing Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Pub at North Coast Brewing

Is there a children friendly area or is this an adults only location?

There is a large outdoor area, but, nothing specifically for kids

Do they still have a Catfish sandwich?

Personally can’t remember a time when they had catfish, but I can safely say right now the answer is no.

Do you offer non alcoholic beer?

No we do not. We have not found a satisfactory way to remove the alcohol that doesn’t sacrifice taste and quality.

Are your restrooms currently available to customers?

    Yes ... wear a mask

    Is this restaurant dog friendly?

YES! One of the few positive elements of this pandemic is that all dining is now outdoors, and that allows us to be “dog friendly to friendly dogs“.

Do you have gluten free buns, or pizza?

We are not currently serving pizza, but we do offer lettuce wraps instead of buns.

Are there any gluten free beer options?

We do not. We only have one beer with wheat malt but because we don’t do a ‘kitchen clean’ between the batches we can’t say any of our beers are gluten free. Blue Star is our wheat beer, the rest of our beers have negligible amounts but still not… Read more

Would you say this place is kid friendly?

Yes, our son was with us when we stopped in to eat. There were many other families with younger children also. Shouldn't be a problem.

Are dogs welcome (is there an outside area to eat and drink)?

We do not have an outside area for eating and drinking but we do have plans to build one in the future.

    Is this place dog friendly?

The Brewery is actually in the process of adding on an outside seating area in the front of the building. I'm guessing by summer, it should be in full swing!

The decor is eclectic, which many interesting things displayed everywhere. On our first visit, we started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder ($13). This was great! It was thick with clams and even passed my "spoon test", which is being able to support the spoon standing vertically in the soup without falling over. It passed the test due to the thick soup with lots of clams. (See photo). We each had the Chicken Pot Pie ($22) from the daily special menu. This was delicious and thick and topped by a puff-pastry like thick topping. They also make Irish Coffee ($11) that was perfect. Just as good as the Buena Vista Bar in San Francisco (where this cocktail was invented). On our second visit, two nights later, my wife had a French Dip sandwich with sweet potato french fries ($22). She found it enjoyable and very good. I had a Patty Melt ($22) which was delicious. They make an espresso martini ($14) that is delicious! On both visits, the service was quick and friendly. After a morning canoe down the Big River and those stairs, we turned into ravenously hungry people. We asked the gift shop lady for food recommendations. Without skipping a beat, she said: "Patterson's Pub! If you get there before 2:00 PM, you can get brunch!" Challenge accepted. We took our appetites straight to Mendocino's main drag. They had a tented patio in the sunny-but-stubbornly-windy Mendocino air, but we opted for the interior. Good choice. It has the ultimate "Authentic Irish Pub" starter pack: Cool and dark? Check. Crisp draft beers? Check. Full bar? Check. The SF Giants game playing on multiple screens? Check and check. We successfully beat the 2:00 PM brunch buzzer, and the specials menu looked to good to pass up! Lobster Wontons (Pub Special): Gone in a literal flash. Blink and you missed them. Crabcakes Benedict (Pub Special): Hands down, the best this diner has ever had. The hollandaise sauce (which they kindly served on the side per request) was a lemony deliciousness! The Comfort Food Crew: The rest of the party ordered clam chowder (Boston), garlic bread, and a fried cod sammy with thin-cut fries. All around lip-smacking! The Liquid Refreshment: Paired it all with a half-pint of Scrimshaw Pilsner (shoutout to local Fort Bragg brewing). It hit the spot and paired perfectly with the crabcakes benedict! The "Too Spicy" Drama: We did hit one minor speed bump. One of the dishes turned out to be a bit too spicy for one of our sensitive diners (not me). The waitstaff deserve a medal here. They went out of their way to try and "de-spice" the meal. While my companion's tastebuds were past the point of return, the staff's effort and sweetness were noticed and much appreciated! . Excellent customer service. The Verdict: A wonderful, perfect meal for a weekend getaway in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. We will absolutely be back. Let this be a lesson to you all: always ask a local!

On one of the days we were in the area, we ventured into town for a nice meal. We found Los Gallitos by chance, looking for a spot to part my truck. Sometimes these small town spots can be hit or miss; this place was definitely great. The carne asada was better than the chicken, but I always think that. While the new decor is nice, it became painfully clear that changing the atmosphere means little without competent management and staff who prioritize customer safety. Our expensive dinner was completely ruined by a loud, heated argument between a man and a woman seated near us. The situation rapidly escalated, drawing in other bar patrons with foul language and physical confrontation including a man pushing his wife out the door. The bartender tried to intervene and wanted to call the police, but the manager overruled him. One man at the center of the dispute stayed seated while chaos unfolded around him. When we notified the manager, who was sitting nearby watching the entire incident she refused to contact the police, dismissing it as a matter of "private property." We suspect this inaction was because the disruptive, intoxicated patrons were staying in the restaurant's on-site hotel rooms, with profits apparently taking priority over patron safety. I reminded her that restaurants have the right (and responsibility) to refuse service and remove disruptive guests. Servers ultimately had to escort the intoxicated patrons out, unnecessarily putting both staff and other customers at risk. Restaurants have a legal duty of care under premises liability laws to protect patrons from foreseeable harm, including violence from other customers. Failing to intervene in a clearly escalating situation involving intoxicated individuals, overruling calls for police assistance, and allowing threats to continue outside the premises raises serious safety and potential liability concerns especially in a family-friendly, high-end establishment. As we left, the ejected men were waiting just outside, openly planning what they would do to the other individual when he exited. We have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant charging premium prices, including $12 for a simple loaf of bread and butter. The food was good and our server worked hard, but the disturbing incident, the manager's complete lack of concern for customer safety, and the unsafe environment have cost this establishment our business after more than three decades of loyalty.
