Came here on a rainy Mendocino weekend and was grateful for the cozy, living room-esque feel. The flights were so reasonable that we got two (trying 8 beers between the two of us) and were sufficiently buzzed! We didn't get any food, but it looked like typical pub food (not too many vegetarian options). The waiter rang us up for beer to take home at our table, then we just grabbed them from the fridge near the front. The beer was on the warm side, and they have "impossible" burgers on the menu. I always fear they're going to have a mix up and serve me that BS. I don't appreciate that they spend money and resources to stock impossible burgers but don't have the same dedication toward cooling their beer. Brewery and pub with a full bar and food, everything encompassed into one package. Old fashioned was decently made, except the ice was a regular cube and melted way too fast. We all enjoyed our food and drinks, which was served with a smile. Ambiance is simple, functional and appropriate for the environment. We knew this was going to be our first stop on our coast camping adventure. We were not disappointed in any way. I started with the Bourbon Honey Scrimshaw and my wife had the Cherry Weiss beer and they were both tasty and fresh. Our bartender, who was great also took our order. I had the clam chowder and shrimp and chips. My wife had the special of the day the loaded waffle fries with green chilis, bacon and beer cheese. Fantastic combo of items that we almost finished. We sat in the bar to eat and the decor and seating was ample. We are here before the summer rush so we were seated immediately. First let me start off by saying I've been coming here since I was a kid, so I really hope this was a weird one off experience and the next time I go I'm hopeful it will be better. We did come in the off season (October), so I'm wondering if that was it as well. The staff were a little distracted throughout the experience and it was difficult to get ahold of anyone. I ordered the shrimp and chips, and there were 2 hairs in my food, and when I raised a concern the staff was not very friendly about it. My husband and his brother's food was okay, just very greasy. Overall, it was not horrible but not what I remember it being at all. That being said I am hopeful that when we visit again it will be just as good as it usually is. read more

Dined on the patio during happy hour, the restaurant was busy and service was not very interested in our table. Extremely long waits for everything, had to flag down busboys for water refills as this was not a priority on the patio. A $9 Paloma and a Mexican draft on pint night for $5.50 was not terrible, but you do pay a premium or the lovely patio ambiance. We didn't order more drinks, but had a tough time getting water or our bill. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered a shrimp ceviche as my dinner. It was quite tasty and had plenty of chips. I loved the bog scoop of fresh guacamole on the top. Husband ordered the brew house burger with cheddar cheese. It had a lovely pretzel bun and nice battered fries. Because we waited so long, we got offered a desert on the house, and enjoyed a terrific tuxedo mousse cake. No idea why, but I always think this place should be better than it is. First of all from the prices, they think very highly of themselves but the portions are "ok" at best (an overload of cheaper fries to hide the smallish pieces of fish and shrimp, for example) The food isn't bad, but it's not great either. (Although top marks for the onion rings! They're pretty good) The service is pretty hit or miss with them usually seeming like they are very understaffed, but the kids working are doing the best they can with what they have. I guess the beer is ok, so the more you drink, the better the food tastes and the memory of the bill hurts. read more

My partner and I love hazys and didn't get not one here we did not enjoy the beer we did not try the food. This was my second time at North Coast, we sat outside with our pup around noon on a Saturday. We ordered a few flights and snacks -- onion rings, sweet potato fries, Brussels sprouts, and a chicken Caesar wrap. The food is standard pub fare, the onion rings & sweet potato fries are quite good and the rest is perfectly fine. Our beers unfortunately didnt arrive until a while after our food (and after we checked on them) which was a little odd and detracted a bit from the experience. We went with great experience expectations my husband loves their beer. We wondered why this place was rated so low. And now we know. I debated giving this place a low rating . Why? I don't mind waiting when I have not reserved a table. But I do like to be acknowledged and told I need to wait. We were waiting in line to be seated and the lady pretended she didn't see us. For 10 full mins. Even though she was standing right in front of us. She was doing what seemed like admin stuff. Then she said we had a 45 mins wait even though tables were empty. Inside and outside. The bar staff was very busy and we had to wait a bit before we even got a menu. Other people were offered the food menu at the bar. We were not. We left after one drink. My drink- the Bloody Mary looked amazing. Tasted ok. But that was recommended by the kind lady next to me who literally ordered it for me. We stopped in a for quick snack. I can't comment on the beer because I'm not a beer drinker. My girlfriend is and she loved it. The food though looks very appealing. Been coming to Bragg for about 6 years First time stopping to dine here- Nice selection of beers and the Scrimshaw Pilsner did not disappoint. We enjoyed the beer cheese pretzels, Fish and Chips, and the double smash burger. I appreciate the locally sourced rock cod, as it has so much more flavor than the white fish typically served in fish and chips. My non-pescatarian friend enjoyed the locally sourced cow. Service was outstanding with an attentive but not hovering server. Great service, nice ambiance. Definitely on my "A" list of places to dine. read more

Came in on a Saturday around 6:15 and sat in the bar area which was open seating. It was very busy but with some patience the very busy bartender came by and took our order at 6:30. Ordered 2 drink and 2 meals. We received our food at 6:55. We were on a time crunch trying to make it to the skunk train by 7:15 so we ate fairly fast. The ambience and vibes were nice. Lively and busy for a Saturday night along with a NFL playoff game on. Clam Chowder was very flavorful. Caesar salad was not creamy but more a watery dressing. Not my favorite. This is a pub restaurant where I wish I could give it 6 stars but 5 it is and here we go with the review.... Let's start with the beer. I strongly recommend ordering the beer flight. North Coast Brewing makes an amazing selection of beer and I haven't tasted one I didn't like or love. So you have that going for the place. Now the food.... I've heard about their clam chowder and, in Ft. Bragg, it's almost like a "chowder off" in terms of who has the best chowder in town. This place has to be in the running. The best clam chowder I've ever had with large chunks of clam, great cuts of potato, fantastic seasoning - just awesome. My wife went with the burger and they made it perfectly to her liking - a double patty, no bread, swiss cheese, add bacon and mushrooms - patties cooked to an excellent medium rare. Note, they layered bacon on the top AND the bottom patty - how many places do that? Very nice touch. She ordered the side of the garlic, truffle waffle fries - excellent seasoning and nice and crisp. I stole a few - wow! I don't know why but it seems like, in general, waffle fries tend to be more soggy vs. shoestrings - not these. A very strong side - another recommendation. I went with the battered cod sandwich. The cod batter was light and flavorful. The cod was well seasoned. A nice tartar sauce with lettuce and tomato - yum! The service was also 6 star and the vibe of the place was comfortable - both inside and outside. It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal and, if you like their beer, their website has a beer locator on the upper left which is killer. I know now where I'm going when I get home. read more

Not one person came outside the entire 45 minutes we were there. We had to go to the bar to get beer. We planned on having lunch there and leaving with cases of beer. I've had two different beers from North Coast Brewing recently and was very pleased with this beer experience. The first beer I had I liked the best. The Pranqster is a Belgian Strong Golden Ale which like a good Strong ale should taste it tasted strong with a fruity aspect to it. Definitely a nice change of pace from beer styles you see everywhere and all of the time. The second beer was the Brother Thelonius. Also a Strong Belgian style ale but this one was a dark one with a good malty flavor to it. Nice first outing with this brewery and glad that it was a rewarding beer experience. read more

I stayed overnight in Fort Bragg and didn't get into town until after 7. I was looking for a spot to eat when I saw The Pub. I decided to take a chance that they weren't about to close. I got a table in the bar area. I ordered the fish tacos and a beer. The tacos were delicious!!!! 2 large tacos overflowing with fish. The flavor was good and they were fried but not greasy at all. Owner Suggestion - Congrats on your success since 1988 and all your awards and medals since then, and of course still staying independent. 1996 - acquired the rights to Acme Brewing Company (1907 SF, CA). Went in with family for a early Mother's Day dinner, and was sat down quickly since it was pretty empty. We then ordered and received our food quickly, however they forgot my mother and her friends order and left them to watch while everyone else ate. We were next to the kitchen and server station and they didn't realize they had not brought us all our food until we asked. We were then told the cooks forgot our order and asked if we still wanted it instead of just bringing it out and fixing their error. We've been here 5 years ago when the dining room was attempting to be a little bit more upscale, with booths. Now this are all gone & it was definitely less pretentious albeit common. The server was excellent--however we were only one of 2 tables occupied. But he asked accommodating questions as to our order & his service was quick & attentive. (The other patron was a woman with 2 noisy kids & a well-behaved dog, that was a non-service dog & a turn-off to me). We had soup & salad: salad was fresh, though I didn't care for the lemon vingerette, it was too oniony, but that's a personal preference. The clam chowder tasted good, but was on the warm side, not hot, when it arrived, thereby cooling off quickly. A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, I made a trip to Fort Bragg in early March to chill out a little bit, renting an AirBnb just south of town. I arrived shortly after 1, unpacked, then trotted by foot into town. While it was threatening to rain, I found the walk to be mostly enjoyable - even if the lack of sidewalks in certain spots was a bit daunting. Part of my enthusiasm centered around my destination - I had had a couple friends provide good reviews of this pub, and I felt it my obligation to investigate. I'm happy to say the hype was worth it -after arriving just after 3, I was quickly into my first of what would be three North Coast Stellar IPAs, a beer for which the name is completely descriptive - it was indeed an IPA, presumably brewed on California's North Coast, and it was certainly stellar. Of course I had to have lunch too, and that took the form of a Shrimp Po' Boy. While the sandwich didn't hold together too well, the important characteristic was that it was quite tasty and fulfilling. And then the ambience - I can't get over how friendly and outgoing both the staff and the other patrons were - even though I'd never been there before, with no guarantee of returning, it felt like it was home. I've been to North Coast a bunch of times and I always have a good time here. I remember back in the day (pre-pandemic) they used to do jazz nights!! Loved that. Anyway, we came in this time and sat outside under their tent area. It was actually not bad, because there's a nice setup with plants and such. I came in fully intending to grab their beers but I found their beer-tail section and got something that had elderberry syrup in it?? I forget the name but it was delicious! Hubs got an old fashioned inspired beer-tail that was also very good. We got the fried brussels sprouts with anchovy vinaigrette! This was so good - definitely had a umami flavor. I would say they could have been better about chopping off the hard bits of brussels sprouts better, but the vinaigrette was definitely the stand out for me. Hubs got the fish and chips while I got the shrimp po' boy. Both were great and the fries were seasoned and fried to perfection. Love this spot. read more

The pilgrim arrives at the temple. His feet are sore from the day's journey, his skin is salty with dried sweat. He prostrates himself at the threshold. Finally! This glorious day has come... OK...perhaps I'm over-dramatising a bit. Let's just say that North Coast is one of my favorite California breweries (and has been so for a while). I first discovered them via Red Seal Ale, an amber I used to buy regularly. Then it was Scrimshaw Pilsner, still my go-to on a hot day. Pranqster? - a delicious, golden Belgian ale. Then I discovered Le Merle, still my favorite farmhouse ale. And of course there's North Coast's phenomenal Imperial Stout - Old Rasputin. Soooo delicious - Other stouts bow down! (I modeled my last beer recipe after this, though I added rye and dialed-back the other malts a bit; it still turned out great). As for my impression of their pub? - Let's just say I was a little underwhelmed. It's a much smaller space and a less-polished operation than I expected. And my welcome here bordered on "sullen." (Note: they were understaffed, and it was a weeknight). I decided to sit at the bar, where the vibe seemed friendlier, casual, and local. Food - After studying the menu and getting that ever-unhelpful recommendation from the bartender: "Everything is good," I ordered the veggie burger, which was just OK. I would later learn from friendly locals that the fish & chips were THE thing to order here. "The best in town," they said. (Oh well; maybe next time, if there is one). As for the beers, no complaints of course. I had already tried most of them but did some tasters of a few I had not sampled. One nice surprise was their Old Stock Ale; I think it's the very first Old Ale that I've ever tried. Complex, nutty, caramely, higher ABV, but balanced with the hops. This style is designed to be put down and aged for a while, like wine. I wanted to buy a sixer to do just that... Unfortunately there's no place to buy bottled/canned beer or merchandise at this pub. For that, I had to go to their Brewery Shop, about 50 yards north. It was closed at that hour, so I decided to pay them a visit the next day. But that's another review. read more
