This place is the epitome of a pub. They had quite a selection of beer and booze. Better than that is their menu which included seafood dishes, as well as excellent sandwiches. I tried the French dip and it was delicious. The au jus added the perfect amount of flavor. The salad that accompanied it per my request was also delicious. You can also choose to have fries instead- with multiple choices (garlic, truffle and more). I enjoyed a bloody Mary, which was made from scratch. The restroom is clean and unisex, and the decor is fun. I sat at the bar, but they do have an outdoor patio with a ton of seats. The staff is friendly and welcoming. read more

We were looking for a new lunch place in Mendocino and some locals had suggested Patterson's Pub. We came by in the early afternoon and most tables were filled, but their large outside area was mostly available - even better. Our server was super friendly, offering helpful suggestions and making everything enjoyable. I had their classic half pound burger with cheese, made from Angus beef. My wife was excited about the fish and chips - they offered haddock as an option, instead of the usual cod. She has been spoiled by London's haddock-based fish and chips , and ever since has trouble getting enthused about cod fish and chips. When asked, two different servers heartily agreed haddock was their favorite. The meal was very good. My wife was well satisfied with her haddock and fries, and my hamburger definitely hit the spot. This place was so good, we had dinner here twice during our 4 day stay in Mendocino! They have seating outside on a large patio (with heaters) and in the smaller inside area next to the bar. The decor is eclectic, which many interesting things displayed everywhere. On our first visit, we started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder ($13). This was great! It was thick with clams and even passed my "spoon test", which is being able to support the spoon standing vertically in the soup without falling over. It passed the test due to the thick soup with lots of clams. (See photo). We each had the Chicken Pot Pie ($22) from the daily special menu. This was delicious and thick and topped by a puff-pastry like thick topping. They also make Irish Coffee ($11) that was perfect. Just as good as the Buena Vista Bar in San Francisco (where this cocktail was invented). On our second visit, two nights later, my wife had a French Dip sandwich with sweet potato french fries ($22). She found it enjoyable and very good. I had a Patty Melt ($22) which was delicious. They make an espresso martini ($14) that is delicious! On both visits, the service was quick and friendly. I can't believe I forgot to post a review from our summer trip to Mendocino. I could have easily eaten here more than once. Patterson's definitely delivers on the classic pub feel on the inside with a large outdoor seating area. We sat in the beer garden and watch the World Cup. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the fish and chips. Both were delicious. My husband said it was the best fish and chips he's ever had. read more

Great place to stop! Went in over Memorial Day weekend and we grabbed a spot at the bar. We had a beer and espresso martini. The martini was okay- very strong. I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to after our recent experience at Patterson's Pub. We have been going there for many years. The food and service has always been exceptional. However, our server, John changed our opinion. He was the rudest employee I have ever encountered. Unfortunately, he was also responsible for making our drinks. He used the wrong ingredients and they didn't taste good. When we attempted to ask him about it, he insisted he had done nothing wrong and did not offer to remedy the situation. We left before ordering lunch because we could no longer deal with his bad attitude. read more

Always Trust the Gift Shop Lady. Always. We had just conquered the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse--which apparently requires climbing three flights of "not-quite-normal" stairs. After a morning canoe down the Big River and those stairs, we turned into ravenously hungry people. We asked the gift shop lady for food recommendations. Without skipping a beat, she said: "Patterson's Pub! If you get there before 2:00 PM, you can get brunch!" Challenge accepted. We took our appetites straight to Mendocino's main drag. They had a tented patio in the sunny-but-stubbornly-windy Mendocino air, but we opted for the interior. Good choice. It has the ultimate "Authentic Irish Pub" starter pack: Cool and dark? Check. Crisp draft beers? Check. Full bar? Check. The SF Giants game playing on multiple screens? Check and check. We successfully beat the 2:00 PM brunch buzzer, and the specials menu looked to good to pass up! Lobster Wontons (Pub Special): Gone in a literal flash. Blink and you missed them. Crabcakes Benedict (Pub Special): Hands down, the best this diner has ever had. The hollandaise sauce (which they kindly served on the side per request) was a lemony deliciousness! The Comfort Food Crew: The rest of the party ordered clam chowder (Boston), garlic bread, and a fried cod sammy with thin-cut fries. All around lip-smacking! The Liquid Refreshment: Paired it all with a half-pint of Scrimshaw Pilsner (shoutout to local Fort Bragg brewing). It hit the spot and paired perfectly with the crabcakes benedict! The "Too Spicy" Drama: We did hit one minor speed bump. One of the dishes turned out to be a bit too spicy for one of our sensitive diners (not me). The waitstaff deserve a medal here. They went out of their way to try and "de-spice" the meal. While my companion's tastebuds were past the point of return, the staff's effort and sweetness were noticed and much appreciated! . Excellent customer service. The Verdict: A wonderful, perfect meal for a weekend getaway in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. We will absolutely be back. Let this be a lesson to you all: always ask a local! read more

Stopped in two days ago to start our day with a Bloody Mary for me and a mimosa for my wife. The Bloody Mary was hand made from scratch in front of us. It was delicious! For the mimosa, they give you fresh orange juice, and a bottle of champagne. So you get a little bit more than one glass of mimosa. We always stop into Patterson's pub while we're in town, for a drink and/or a meal. Last night we stopped in for dinner. It was very busy. It was about a 15-20 minute wait. But we were able to sit out back by a fire pit and order a drink while we waited. Got to meet some other folks passing through the area. Good conversation. For dinner I ordered the turkey burger with tater tots. It was perfect. Perfectly cooked with fresh lettuce, tomato onions, etc. Even the roll was perfect. My wife is a vegetarian and got the patty melt with the black bean garden burger. She got steak fries as her side. She was also very happy with her meal. The ambience here is pure Irish pub. Very friendly staff and clientele. If you're passing through the area, definitely recommend taking a break at Patterson's pub for a drink and or a meal. read more

Visited Patterson's Pub at the end of January and had a blast. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon but we were able to get seated right away. The atmosphere was nice as everyone had smiles all around. We started off with some Irish Coffees which was a nice way to begin our meal. Next, we shared a cup of clam chowder as we didn't want to ruin our appetite. Their clam chowder had my girlfriend and I in complete shock as it was that GOOD! She said I was more excited about the food than when she said yes to me asking her out! We finished off with ordering an IPA to have with our Fish&Chips. This was honestly the best fish and chips I've had. The tartar sauce was so flavorful and paired well with the fish, our server even gave me extra as I devoured the one that was meant to be shared haha. Great spot in Mendocino! One of the few places that are open late, so it was well appreciated to have a nice and cozy spot open. Came here with a group of 6, and we ordered a bunch of apps to share. I loved the jalapeno poppers and the coconut shrimp--poppers were absolutely stuffed with cheesey goodness, and I liked the fragrant coconut flavor from the crispy breaded shrimp. This is one of the only places open late in Mendocino so we decided to give it a try while in town! The vibe inside was so quaint and warm, with cute Christmas and Irish decorations. Our waitress was so helpful with answering questions about the menu and offering recommendations. I decided to try the bison burger and was impressed with the meaty flavor and huge portion size. The service was amazing--all of the waitresses we interacted with were friendly and checked in on us constantly. I got the wrap which was something I was eyeballing since I looked at their website. It had so many textures which made every bite a new experience. Not at all dry because of the dressing (I chose ranch but there's a variety to choose from) and avocado. My friend got the burger. They did have to add some sauces to avoid it being super dry. I tried a bite and it had this smokiness that made it very pleasant. I agree that the extra mustard and ketchup we put on it was needed. We had quick service on a Sunday night. This place is 21+ order, but you can order to-go if you brought kids. Dogs welcome. Their patio is VERY dog friendly, with water bowls! They did warn us that at night skunks may come out and that it is usually not a problem because they just want French fries. We did not end up seeing any. It's the perfect outdoor but indoor feeling combined. Trees, plants, tan bark, but a huge covering with heaters and some TVs. read more

Came here on a monday night and the line was out the door! It seemed that this was one of the only restaurants open in the area this night, but it was still a great experience with solid food. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, the chicken pot pie, and the crab cakes with a caesar salad. All in all, every dish was great with the clam chowder and pot pie as standouts! Center of Mendocino, easy parking. Typical pub food. Place is clean, large menu: there's something on it for everyone. Outdoor seating area is huge with 2 TVs (World Cup was on while we were there) and is very dog friendly...even though we didn't have ours with us, it was a plus. I came to Patterson's twice while staying nearby. What a cool little pub! They get packed so be willing to wait or sit outside. I would try for inside to get the full vibe of the place.
