They did a great job remodeling, although when you first walk. Up to the building it was not obvious to me to go upstairs. We came at 11 on a Saturday, we were the first ones to sit in the bar. I was concerned that some of the reviews were pretty rough. Generally a great view means not great food, but that certainly isn't true at the wharf. I went hard on the appetizers- mussels steamer, calamari, and fresh oysters. All were fresh tasting and very well done. The oysters were sweet and a little larger, the calamari crisp, tender, and fully cooked. I liked the mussels, but they were a touch small and the sauce was actually great but there wasn't much. We closed out with the Caesar salad topped with the local rockfish done Cajun style, wow! We didn't want a bunch of extras and it let us try the grilled fish. Shockingly good salad (yes, rest of the US, you can do it!) and the fish was perfect. The view was spectacular, right out the harbor to the sea. The interior was huge. My only complaint was the person who took our reservation and then checked us in was abrupt and disinterested in customer service. Her manager seemed squarely on it and so set a great tone. Our mother used to live in Ft Bragg so we are familiar with Noyo Harbor and the Wharf restaurant. Happy it was open for business this week. We arrived around 4:30 or so and seated in the main dining room with a window seat. Our server offered us fresh bread and butter, (not would you like to order) which we were charged $3. Pretty sneaky. Ok, place was recently renovated so not a surprise. We ordered Halibut fish and chips. Menu said it came with a salad. We decided to share the dish and ordered a side salad as well. We did enjoy the Harbor view as we waited for our food. First off the temp of the fish was slightly above warm. They advertise the breading as "beer battered" then rolled in panko. There was nothing light and airy or flavorful about the breading, matter of fact there was no flavor at all. My sister equated the fish to being pulled out of the freezer and tossed into the fryer. The salad was an average salad, nothing memorable about the taste. We also realized there was no Chips to "Fish and chips". When we asked our server she said we didn't get "chips" because we had salad. That was not the description of the dish on the menu but I wasn't going to press the matter because We didn't need the extra tasteless calories. New look, same menu(cook). Looks snazzy, quieter environment yet the seats are closer together (we could hear our neighbors as though we were dining together) too close. Waiter was nervous, and did a fine job. Was quick to attend, and got our drinks and soup right out to us. Had to wait for the meals, but that's ok. Had the rock cod sandwich with Caesar salad and one of us had the garlic clams and linguine. Loaded with clams (in their shells, not canned) and the flavor was great. A salad would have been a nice touch with it, but it was a good meal. The sandwiches were ok. The lettuce for it was wilted from being under a heat lamp. The sauce with it lacked flavor, we were expecting a chipotle spicier sauce. It appeared to be a thousand island tartar sauce creation. It was good though. The Caesar was doused in dressing, tasted good and the anchovies were a nice touch. Being a local, it would be nice to tell out of towners to dine there. Standard fare, prices about the same as anywhere else here. The view is the highlight, watching the boats, sea lions and other wildlife is well worth the price. read more

The Wharf has an amazing view especially on a sunny. The water and the foliage is gorgeous and I recommend walking around as much as possible, beautiful scenery. This place truly saved us on New Year's Eve. We got into Fort Bragg pretty late -- close to 9 PM -- and just wanted to find somewhere open where we could sit down, eat, and unwind before heading back to our hotel. Since it was New Year's Eve, we called ahead, and Gina answered the phone. She told us they were almost done serving food but said, "Come on over, I'm here," which immediately made us feel welcomed. When we arrived, we sat at the bar. It was quiet with a few people there, and the vibe was relaxed and comfortable. Being right on the water was such a nice way to end a long travel day. Rafael was behind the bar, and between the two of them, the service was warm, kind, and genuinely accommodating. I ordered the spicy chicken wings, which were really good, and Ray had the fish and chips, which he enjoyed. I had a double IPA (Pliny), and Ray had a Hefeweizen, which he liked a lot. What really stood out was learning that the wharf, our hotel (The Beachcomber), and several other spots around town are owned by the same people. It explains why the area feels so connected and welcoming -- very much a small, close-knit coastal town. We were able to eat, enjoy ourselves, and still get back to our hotel before midnight. We arrived about 5:00pm and were promptly seated without reservations. The restaurant appears to have been redecorated recently. Our waiter was very pleasant and answered a couple of menu questions. We ordered chicken Marsala and filet mignon. Our orders came as requested, except for one misstep. My filet was ordered as medium and arrived as very rare. It was politely sent back and returned about 10 minutes later as more medium rare, but I could tolerate that. The veggies were well cooked with a bit of crunch to them and the serving of garlic mashed potatoes was very large. I added a bit of salt to everything (not my usual move). My husband's chicken Marsala was very tender, but it too needed salt. A small basket of locally baked sourdough bread with butter was brought to our table and was very good. For dessert we shared a vanilla crème brûlée, which was well prepared and quite tasty. The restaurant was a bit noisy but, was expected as there were several tables with children seated at them. When the waiter brought our bill out, he was quite apologetic about my steak, which he noted was not charged for. When I objected, he was emphatic that that wasn't how they usually serve filet mignon. We did note on the bill there was a small charge for kitchen tip. My coworker and I were in town for a real estate acquisition, and this place became our go-to while we were there. We pretty much worked out of here, and Cassidy and Ashley were amazing the whole time. They gave us A+++ service, made us feel welcome, and really helped make the experience easy and enjoyable. The dog bowl for the little puppers was also such a thoughtful touch and very much appreciated. On top of that, the sunset was beautiful, and the whole place had a great fishing theme that gave it even more character. We sat by the window facing Noyo Harbor bridge and the river flowing out to the ocean, fantastic view, 5 stars. We ordered the cioppino, wild caught salmon and frutti de mare and all were great. Service is good. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was they added a mandatory "kitchen tip" which i think is nonsense. When i tip, whether 15, 18 or 20%, part of that is the overall indication of the food and service, not just the waiter. Tip should always be shared with the bus person, as well as the kitchen staff. To keep all the tips to the server and not shared is unfair, it's an indication of overall satisfaction. It made me consider taking off the total tip amount minus that "Kitchen tip". Let's go. lol Glad we did. When you walk in, there's nothing fancy but it smells delicious. They sat us down. We ordered dinner and when the waitress came out Britney, she was very knowledgeable about all the food and alcohol they served. Asked for advice and she hooked it up! When dinner came, it was delicious. I had the cioppino (my first time) and the wife had the crab raviolis. Delicious! This restaurant is under new ownership. Short : Good food, lovely view, reasonably priced. Long: We went in late November 25 for a birthday dinner to check it out. Entrance is through the bar which had a familiar odor of fish. Dining room did not smell fishy. Hostess could have made some friendly eye contact, smiled or greeted us, or been more like.... a hostess. We were efficiently escorted to our table by the window. The view from the second floor dining room has a lovely view of the Noyo river. We enjoyed the sunset time watching the last few boats returning as night fell. The dining room was sparkling with cheerful holiday lights. Random idistinquishable background music we tuned out as quickly as possible. (Restaurants don't seem to realize how this makes conversation much more difficult, especially with the older crowd. It's not music, just noise). Drink service was slow despite the bar and restaurant not being particularly busy. We were there at 4:30 a half hour after opening for dinner. Our food server was excellent. Caesar salad had house made dressing and was quite good.Unfortunately another food server apparently delivered my entree to another customer so my husbands meal came before mine. I enjoyed the delicious bread while I waited. The vegetarian option of eggplant and portobello was also delicious and there were a few other tempting non meat options on the menu. The creme brulee was good but came with sort of bland tube shaped cardboard looking cookies which took away from the dish. The place filled up with more locals which is another recommendation. Having a 'date night' with my grandsons(7&11). We were greeted with a smile and where would you like to sit? We said, by a window! And no questions or (those are reserved) we were seated by the window with the striking harbor view. Seals, otters , boats and birds a plenty to entertain. The wait staff were very busy, yet very attentive to our needs. Our meals arrived and they were delicious(the waiter didn't bat an eye at my prawn allergy and offered substitutions). Clams and linguini for the boys, fruita de mare for me. Hot and fresh and yummy bread also served. We split a warm crème brûlée and ice cream with hot fudge. Service was excellent and the waitress was able to answer all of my questions about the dishes and recommended some great ones. The appetizer came out within 5-8 minutes and the mains came out within 10-15 minutes. The bread and whipped butter were pretty addicting, because the bread is made by a local for-restaurant-only baker and the whipped butter was smooth and creamy. The atmosphere is family friendly and casual. You can dress up or down if you'd like. There are three main rooms; a bar and two open rooms, which keep the conversations cozy and personal. Though I didn't have anything from the bar this time, many people from other tables seemed to be very pleased with the cocktails. I had the steamed mussels, rock cod paupiette, and seafood platter. The steamed mussels were fresh and a good texture and did not have the grittiness some other places have. The rock cod paupiette and accompanying prawns were well seasoned and creamy, I'd recommend this dish with basmati rice rather than the garlic mash (personal preference). The Seafood platter had fried jumbo scallops, rock cod, and prawns. They were all solid, but I wish they had options for other seasoning like cajun-style or something of the sort. Overall no complaints about the food, venue, or service, with the exception of only one fried prawn being a little mushy. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Fort Bragg or Mendocino. read more

We went to Fort Bragg for vacation. The first visit at the Wharf was so great we went back a second time before going home from vacation. Isela was our waitress again and just like the first time it was fabulous! Melissa was also helping at our table. She was very kind and helpful. My husband had the fish tacos which were okay but my meal was awful. Absolutely delicious and beautiful birthday meal at Silvers for my friends birthday. Gina was awesome, very sweet and attentive to our 7 top. 3 of them being kids(God bless her) this woman deserves a raise! She brought out the most delicious birthday cobbler and sundae. A big thank you to the kitchen staff as well. Your hard work does not go unnoticed! Unfortunately the hostess was very rude and impatient, on several occasions to each of us. She claimed to be the "managers daughter". Also we overheard the other server (a heavy set lady with glasses) working last night talking badly about our table within ear shot to Gina. Thankfully Gina promptly shut that down with class and treated us with the respect any paying customer deserves at an establishment. We are very grateful for Gina. All 4 of us adults that were at the table work in or have worked in the fine dining wine and food industry so we know the pains and privileges of the restaurant life. Gina was a class act, and I would be honored to have her work at any of my restaurants. I had the worst service of my life there. and I'm old. A youngish man with red hair acted as though my questions were a nuisance and basically threw our food at us each course. When asked to move a fan from blowing directly on us and our food he was flippant. He seemed very put out. Not once did he thank us or even smile. You are in the wrong business, buddy. We took a day drive to Fort Bragg and found this place down in the cove on Noyo river. The location has some fantastic views. The restaurant itself was a cross between fine dining and rustic bar. The service was great. Everyone was friendly. The food was a little bit of a let down. My husband ordered the cod with mashed potato & veggies and I had the Alaskan halibut with rice & veggies. We also had a fried calamari appetizer. It was fine but boy did it need more flavour. Once we added some more salt, it more palatable. The Wharf is an establishment in Fort Bragg that had been around for a long time. It had amazing views and is quite popular for visitors and locals alike. There are some amazing views but those seats are not always available, if that is important to you call ahead and make reservations. The staff is always nice and helpful. They try to accommodate your requests and seat you asap. I have eaten here close to a half dozen times. I think their food is average (hence the three stars). They are over priced for the quality and flavor they actually deliver. On my most recent trip I had the surf and tirf with was a New York steak with grilled jumbo shrimp. The shrimp tasted nice but the steak was below average. It was cooked to order correctly which I appreciated. I don't think the steak itself nor the sauce presented very well. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were also so so. I ordered the Huckleberry Fizz and it was definitely huckleberry forward. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder that never came; not dinging them to hard on that stuff happens, and had that removed from the bill. The pasta dish my wife ordered came with vegetables and other things that weren't described on the menu. Ultimately I feel the Wharf is riding its coattails form past generations. We hesitantly had to dine at Silver's again because it was the only restaurant in the area that was open late and we were starving. The service and food was just as disappointing as the first time. We were seated immediately but our waitress didn't come to our table until about 10 minutes after we were seated. We first ordered 2 glasses of the local Cabernet Sauvignon and some bread. The waitress kept chatting with the hostess and texting on her phone. It literally took another 10 minutes to get the wines to our table. Another 5 minutes to take our order. She didn't bring the bread until our meals arrived. My Nana had a bacon cheese burger. I had the chicken linguini alfredo. The bacon cheese burger was good except my Nana asked for bbq sauce and the waitress didn't bring it until the burger was practically done. My chicken linguini alfredo was not to my liking. The lingiini was no where near al dente. It was overly soft, like a 1 dollar can of spaghetti O's. The chicken pieces look like Tyson's frozen chicken and the alfredo was too salty. Note to the waitress: You blamed the kitchen staff and said the kitchen staff had trouble finding bbq sauce. That's why it took you so long to bring our requested BBQ sauce to our table. Really?!? You're gonna blame the kitchen staff for your incompetence? BBQ sauce is a staple in kitchens. Maybe if you focused on your job instead of chatting with the hostess and texting on your phone, you could be a more adequate and reliable waitress. Focus on your job. The customers deserve it... WE ate at The Wharf last evening..the first time on over a year. Sadly it was not what it has been in the past. Service was good. The bar drinks were exceptional but the food was mediocre. We ordered kami chowder which has always been great..but appears they have added a spice which i could not identify..the clams, potatoes and celery were plentiful but over shadowed by the spice. The seafood platter was not up to the quality we received previously. The oyster was terrible the scallop was rubbery as was the prawn. The cod was good but tasted of old frying oil the French fries were good. The bill was high and they automatically included the gratuity (only 2 of us) as well as a kitchen tip. We realize new ownership often changes things but sadly this was not good. The ambiance in the bar area was good but the dining room was extremely bright...definitely not a mood enhancer.
