They are prejudiced against Pit Bulls - which means any dog that looks like a pit bull is not allowed. I was trying to find a loving situation to board my 2 dogs while I'd be out of town for the weekend awhile back. My male dog is an Argentine Dogo, which is not a Pit Bull and is from the Mastiff bloodline, and he wasn't allowed. He is a well-socialized with children, adults and other dogs (I often host doggie days with my friends and their pets at my house), and he is highly trained. Still nothing I had to say (not even my vet records) made any difference. I'm sure people with tiny dogs will like this place, but the breed discrimination irritated me to no end. ----------- updated since the owner has decided to argue my point, if you read their website under "Requirements" it CLEARLY says "Though we agree that Pit Bulls can be great "people" dogs, they are not always great "dog" dogs. Also, we know that all dogs - small and large - can be dangerous if not properly trained and controlled, but research and experience show that Pit Bulls can have a difficult time in the stimulating environment of day care. For this reason, we do not allow purebred Pit Bull breeds into our facility and must temperament-test Pit mixes prior to stay." That was the point that was driven home to me when I tried to converse with the person on the phone about boarding my dogs there, even though vet records show that he IS NOT a pit bull. I was denied simply because he "looks" like a pit bull, even though he is a Dogo, from mastiff bloodlines. I was told he would be required to have temperament testing, which wasn't the issue itself. The fact that I was listened to nor believed when I repeated over and over that he isn't a pit bull or even a terrier is what forced me to write my review once I came to this website - many months after the fact. I also don't appreciate disparaging comments about myself or through email. Perhaps if you didn't want bad press, you (or your representative) shouldn't have treated me and my dog so negatively. read more

They were so great about accommodating us last minute! My puppy Jax and I just moved here and my apartment was being exterminated. Puppy Playhouse was able to get us right into daycare and give Jax the comfort of not being stuck in a fume-filled apartment! Really loved their compassion and willingness to help. Major plus was that Jax was totally exhausted when we got home & was as calm as a baby koala! Total sign of a great day! read more

This is the best place I have ever taken my dog. When I take her in, she doesn't even kiss me goodbye, which she ALWAYS DOES. This is the first place where the dogs can actually play and hang out with other dogs all day, not just sit in a room and wait for their turn to play. I've lived all around the country, and my girl, a 2 year old Pit Bull, LOOOOVES this place. The employees are courteous and are really great with all of the dogs, big and small. They are all very hands on and just have fun. DONT freak out if your pup loses a pound or two after leaving them for a week. I picked my girl up and she lost 5 lbs as a 70 lb dog, but she's playing alllll day, but fattened up when she got back to her lazy house schedule. So this time I gave extra food. BTW THEY ARE NOT PREJUDICED AGAINST PIT BULLS. All dogs go in for a temperament test because it's open play. It doesn't matter if your dog is big or small. If it doesn't fit in a pack, it is not the best place for your dog. read more

My german shepherd Charlie Anne LOVES Puppy Playhouse. She absolutely cannot wait to go into daycare while I'm at work. She gets so excited she practically pulls me up the ramp when we get there. Not only does she love this place, but I love it too. They're so caring and really take the time to suit to every dogs needs. If she gets a scratch, they doctor it up and always call to let me know. I told them I was having problems with her eating and they tried everything they could and eventually solved the problem. They really do care about the dogs there and that's what I look for when leaving my fur baby somewhere while I'm at work. She's always so happy when she comes home and has actually become much better at home when it comes to walking on a leash and commands. I would recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

Best place for grooming! The groomer really does an amazing job. I'm usually really skeptical with groomers. After a couple times at another place I didn't feel too satisfied. Once I brought my 9 month old toy poodle here, she looked SO good. Not to mention, the lowest prices in Jax! Highly recommend this place. read more

My dog and I LOVE Puppy Playhouse especially since they added a groomer in-house. My fiancé and I both work all day during the week and with a dog that sheds like crazy, trying to get him in anywhere on the weekends is a huge chore. Combine that with his adoration of playing with other dogs and Puppy Playhouse is definitely the best choice for us. We are able to drop him off in the morning, leave him to be groomed and then pick him up when we get off work. It's 5 minutes away from my house which makes it even easier. He is always smiley and happy when he's picked up. He plays equally well with big dogs and small (he's medium sized) but seems to have the mentality of a big dog so I usually tell them to go ahead and put him in with the big dogs. I especially love that they dogs get outdoor playtime, plus indoor playtime. They are always so nice there and so helpful but I think the real indicator of a great place is that my dog is always excited when we pull up in the car and always happy when we come to pick him up. read more

I absolutely love this place and it's safe to say our dog does too. My young energetic pup gets his fair share of play time here and I feel confident he's taken care of just as well as he is when he's home. There is nothing better than seeing how happy and excited your dog is as you drop them off and they go running off to play...unless of course you count the happy face and wagging tail you get when you pick them up. Our 7 month old dog broke his leg on Saturday morning at The Puppy Playhouse. I called Saturday night to check on him (nervous first time dog mom leaving him overnight). They informed me he'd fallen down but was doing fine- eating, playing, being awesome. Hopping around a bit but just fine & enjoying the other dogs. Picked him up Sunday & of course- he's awesome & eating well because he's awesome & he eats well. He's limping, won't put weight on his leg & yelping when we pick him up into the car. X-rays the next morning- he has a full avulsion fracture in his knee. He needs surgery to reset the bone & due to the placement & severity of the fracture we can expect that his left leg will not grow any more below the knee. I won't mention the cost of the treatment because this injury is common & could have happened anywhere. Hopefully he is almost as tall as he's going to get (doc said about 9 months is full grown). The owners have gone into full scripted CYA mode (note- we did not ask them to pay for anything, just to reconsider their staff's qualification in making judgment calls regarding incidents & injuries at their property). I indicated on the forms that I wanted to be called, that any vet would do in an emergency, & that I would assume any financial responsibility that followed. They stand by not calling a vet to have him evaluated. And they would have called me but I called first. Not sure what that means since they didn't really tell me anything except that they have it on record that my dog was not temperament tested. We can't determine if the full fracture occurred at the moment he fell or if it was made worse by keeping him in the play area at the facility for the remaining open hours during his stay. His legs will be disproportionate, he will be more susceptible to hip problems as he ages & the surgery has only a 75% success rate. Another friend boarded at Coastal the same day & experienced the same injury (again, we acknowledge that accidents happen everywhere). Her pup was taken by the boarding staff to the vet for X-rays & pain management, placed in a doggy walker apparatus, & isolated until they returned to town the next day. His injury is expected to heal without surgery. read more

I've been taking my Dobie Gunner to The Puppy Playhouse since he was four months and I can't say enough good things about all of the staff there. They are all true animal lovers with great experience and knowledge. I wouldn't trust anyone else like I do The Puppy Playhouse staff. He doesn't take one-look back when I drop him off. He is better behaved and enjoys the socialization of day care. I have boarded him multiple times for long stays (multiple days up to one week) while taking trips and I know he is in good hands.
