    Chicken Masala Pasty
    J E.

I've heard of this place and when in the area recently, I bought many Pastys to bring home and enjoy later on. The place is really just carry-out, they have fresh made, hot pastys to go, which they can sell, as well as frozen pastys to bring home. They also have a large selection of snacks directly from England. Service was helpful, the guy working the counter was descriptive and helped me with how the various pastys were made. Also, when walking in the amazing smells of all the workers in the back making food smelled incredible! I opted for some of nearly all their offerings of pastys. A couple of days later I made the chicken masala for lunch. I used their directions for baking, not the microwaving to get it ready to eat. They were spot on and the pasty came our perfectly warmed up and ready to eat. The crust was outstanding! None of it was dry or tastless, the whole thing was flaky, perfect, buttery, and tasty! The filling was very nice, though it had no flavors that resembled Indian or "masala" to me, so I'm not sure what they consider masala, but that's not a bad thing as the filling tasted great! I'm looking forward to making and eating all the rest, I'm sure they'll be great too!

The Pure Pasty is a hidden gem. It's a small shop that brings a taste of British food and snacks to the DMV. They specialize in pasties and sausage rolls. I tried the beef pasty and the chicken masala pasty, both were really good, with great flavor and that satisfying, savory bite. The chicken masala was my favorite. Be careful, they can be very hot. There's no seating, so it's a grab and go kind of spot. They also sell British products, snacks, drinks, and more, which adds a nice touch. Overall, it's a great little place tucked away in a small parking lot. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area or if you want to try a British snack.

3.5 stars, quaint British spot with fresh and frozen pasties and a small market of fun British snacks and goodies! No seating at all so definitely more of a take-out place. I tried the Chicken Masala pasty and a sausage roll. Both were solid, but nothing too special. A little too pricey for what you get ($9.49 per pasty - about the size of average hand and $6 sausage rolls).

Good pasty's but their pie's are sub par and their reheating instructions are absolutely horrible. I followed the instructions on the package and microwaved it from frozen for 2.5 minutes and it completely collapsed, became mush, and leaked everywhere. Maybe it wasn't baked? But there was zero indication this was or was not baked and there were clearly vent marks on the dough indicating it likely was since it says to vent in the unbaked instructions.

Got the chicken Marsala, beef, broccoli cheddar, Kevin Bacon, and banger/bean. Chicken Marsala was good. EVERYTHING ELSE was bland and not worth the money. Broccoli cheddar literally had no cheddar... Banger/bean filling was paper thin and the pastry was all dough. Kevin bacon and traditional beef was just plan awful, nothing good about it. $60 wasted, most of it went into the trash.. Skip this place... it's terrible..

We have been here a few times. They have bake fresh pasties and frozen pasties to stock your freezer for later. During every trip, we had gotten freshly baked to eat right then and frozen ones for a later date. They have some seasonal flavors with some standard flavors. I haven't had one that I didn't like. Don't forget to sign up for their frequent buyer program. Follow their recommended reheat instructions- perfect every time.

Why does every visit have to be so disappointing? Went in to get three pasties. Even though the tray with traditional had quite a few on it, they said they only had k e traditional. They said it would be 10 minutes to wait for another which we agreed to. They took one out of the freezer which was marginally okay. Then I hear the beeping of a microwave. They said if they hear it in an oven it gets dried out so it has to go in a microwave. $10 is too much for a microwave hot pocket. They said we could call ahead next time, but why can't they just have enough of their most popular item and less of the others that will just sit. They must have had 50 of them just sitting but no more traditional ones. This just sounds like poor planning to me. I also don't know why their employees have an attitude. They must train them to be like that because it is I usually that there is attitude every time, regardless of when you go. Honestly, it is easier and cheaper to make them at home.

Finally got a chance to try this place out. There were two ladies working and both were very friendly. I got four flavors: Chicken cordon: creamy chicken and potatoes, my favorite Lamb: good quality of lamb, nicely seasoned Pork: pulled pork with apple and sweet potatoes Chicken masala: not much meat or flavor, chicken was dry, my least favorite

This was our first visit, but it was just like visiting a shop in England. They had a nice selection of around eight different pasties that are served hot and an even larger variety of frozen pasties. They also sell British soft drinks (e.g., Fentiman'sRose Lemonade) and British chocolates, along with other staples. I had the lamb and my wife had the chicken Marsala. Both were excellent. Parking is best accomplished by entering from Church street and then parking across from the shop. They have a loyalty program, which encourages people to return.

Small shop with variety of British pastries.. price is some what higher side but then again massive pastries. (As you all know, british pastry fillings has Indian influence) Ps: tried the remain pastries next day ( lamb and chicken pastries), it was awesome!

Since living in the United Kingdom, in early 2000 a pasty has been one of the things I've missed most. On a whim, I searched Yelp to see if maybe I could relive that feeling of having a warm pasty for lunch on a cold day. First of all the place is quaintly situated in a back alley parking area. It's kind of hard to find and the parking spots felt relatively smaller than any others in the area. But it was well advertised once you get to the parking area. As soon as I walked in the delicious aroma of pasties, hit my face and quickly took me back to my time in England. This is a no-frills place, no seating, nothing but pasty store. There are a few benches out front where you can eat your pasty after purchasing them inside. I got four pasties, which felt a little bit more expensive than they were when I was living in England. But the traditional pasty did not disappoint. The young man at the front counter pulled a fresh pasty out of the oven and put it inside a piece of aluminum foil into my bag. After getting out front and sitting down, my mouth was already salivating. Opening up the aluminum foil and taking my first bite of deliciousness was so satisfying. I would have to say it was well worth the 20+ year wait I'm not having a pasty, pure pasty. You have a new loyal customer anytime I'm in Virginia. I will be stopping by and picking up a batch.

Got the cordon blue and it was yummy. Good sized too but definitely on the pricier side at about $10 for a pasty.

I ended up biking and there's a bike stand really close by. My friend was craving fish and chips, so we ventured out this way. Because we came on a Thursday they had a deal going where if you ordered a pie, you could get a beer for free. Of course I had to partake, so I ordered the special pie, which was a masala, chicken, curry pie, and it was quite good. A bit small for the price point but with the beer included totally worth it also because their fries are so good. I could demolish over a pound of those fries. They were thick potato and maybe the extra added bonus of having to use a glass ketchup bottle added to it. My friend and I were also taught how to properly hit the ketchup bottle to get the ketchup out by the bartender. You find the 57 on the bottle at an angle and bump you palm there that instead of hitting the bottom and hoping and praying that ketchup comes out. It actually worked or at least it was more efficient than trying to hit the bottom of the bottle upside down. I had never had a hand pumped beer before, but it was quite good. They are a warm beer rotating and it was quite good, it especially paired well with the pie or fish and chips.

While a scramble sounds simple on paper, it is easy to overcook the vegetables. This one was executed perfectly, with every vegetable done just right. The thin-sliced potatoes were highly seasoned and stood out, moving away from the standard, heavy breakfast spuds you get at most places. The presentation across the board was excellent. The latte arrived with a nice touch--a small side cookie and a club soda to cleanse the palate, which shows a level of intentionality you don't always find. The staff members were incredibly friendly and gracious from start to finish. With fast Wi-Fi and a comfortable environment, it is an ideal spot to get some quality laptop time. We were told we could sit at the bar or outside, but when we asked for one of the open tables, we were denied because they were "reserved for parties of three." That just doesn't make sense. We're still paying customers, ready to order food and drinks. Denying service like that--especially with empty tables in plain sight--feels unnecessary and rigid. I even asked twice, hoping for a little flexibility, but the answer didn't change. I work in the service industry, and this is exactly the kind of situation where you make an exception or use some common sense. Instead, it felt like policy over hospitality. Really disappointing experience for a place I was excited to try.
