My husband and I visited here within the last month or so. We are trying to visit local Cincy restaurants more versus the chains we are always going to so my husband found this on Open Table. It has a cute atmosphere but it quickly became less charming when we were literally seated next to another couple along a wall...literally a plant between the tables and the other woman moved her coat so as to not impose on my space on the bench seat a foot away from her. It was like we were having a double date with a couple we didn't know. The moscato was good and our server was a very polite gentleman. The food was ok for the price. You could tell it is very popular with the older crowd and it was filling up with regulars the entire time we were there on a Friday night. It wasn't awful but we probably wouldn't go back. read more

This was our first visit to Quarter Bistro, and we have only great things to say about our experience. The overall ambiance was friendly, colorful, and festive. Every aspect of our dinner was first class, starting with the menu selections. I had the crab and corn chowder as a starter. My entrée was absolutely superb ( Verlasso Salmon -- Goat Cheese & Pesto Tortellini, Cherry Tomato, Tomato Jam, Sauteed English Peas Wild Mushroom, & Cauliflower, Ramp Beurre Blanc). The service was excellent from beginning to end. And the bartenders were generous with the drinks (cocktails and wine). Kudos to Executive Chef Chris Montgomery, Sous Chef Ty Byrd, and to all the Managers and Support Staff !!! We got dressed up, arrived before our appointed reservations and were told our reservations had been cancelled!!! No notice. No confirmation. Unless you're willing to scramble at the last minute to find another restaurant to celebrate an important event, I recommend a more reliable restaurant that cares. read more

My wife & I have enjoy this restaurant in the past - both before a movie and sometimes just for dinner. We usually sit at the bar. On this particular evening the bar service was atrocious. Unbelievably bad. The bar sits 11-12 ppl - very manageable. Ordering drinks and food was so challenging that we left after soup. Had planned to stay for dinner, but were ignored despite sitting right in the middle of the bar, in full view. We left and bought frozen pizzas at Kroger, deciding that was a better alternative than staying. Can't say we'll be back. read more

I've been eyeing Quarter Bistro's patio for years and have put off using a gift certificate for far too long because I only ever remembered it during colder months. Finally, the hubster decided it was the night and we went. We were so fortunate, as the weather was perfect despite it being November. We sat on the patio, within the cocoon of twinkling lights. Bliss! The bread basket was divine, and the apple and brie flatbread delicious but probably too much. I got the Quarter salad which was probably the only miss on the menu. The sherry vinaigrette was too fume-y. I know that's not the technical word but I can't think of it at the moment. I barely ate this. My burger and my husband's Veal Saltimbocca were awesome. This is definitely an awesome spot and a place to take visiting relatives or other out of town guests. And, as we learned, its even worth dropping some babysitter cash to visit! We have been here before and it was very good. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. No reservations so we just sat at the bar which we really prefer anyway. Ordered a couple of cocktails to start and they were not very good. An old fashioned that just had way too much simple syrup and a gin basil smash that just tasted like pure lemon juice. The OF was drinkable but the other drink was just so bad my wife could not drink it. We wanted to order some food but we honestly felt ignored. The bartender was nice enough but was either too buy or just not attentive enough. We decided to cut our losses, spent the $30 on drinks and went next door to eat. In our previous visit the food and service was very good (at a table) so we will most likely return. I will say I think the manager noticed something was off and did come by to chat with us and asked if we wanted to move to a now open table but we politely declined. read more

Been to this restaurant 3 times now. The food is good depending on what you order. I usually get the Ahi Tacos and they are very good. Last night I got a burger and fries, very average. The bartender could care less about waiting on customers. All 3 times it was hard to order or even get a refill on my drink. I tried to order desert last night for my Birthday, I asked what the selection was and he said I'll just give you a menu. He never came back. After 15 minutes, I asked one of the waitresses to please bring me my bill. I tipped him 20% and left. I won't be going back. read more

The restaurants in the center development of Mariemont are mostly not of the chain variety. That's a good thing, since most chains are mass market blandness. Quarter Bistro is one of the nicer spots in the area, pricey but good. Ideal location next to the Mariemont Theater, and there's even a door directly connecting the theater to the restaurant. The clientele is pretty well-heeled, as you would expect. The interior is nicely appointed, and the patio is prime people-watching opportunity. We liked all of our food, although there were a couple of issues. DLW's burger was requested medium rare, but came out well-done. The Korean tacos were oddly topped with feta and oranges, but they still tasted good. A Pimm's cup never hurts either. They were quite busy on a Saturday evening, which may explain why service was pretty slow. Our order was pretty simple, yet we took an hour and a half to get finished. The Quarter Bistro in Mariemont area of Cincinnati was an excellent experience. Mariemont itself is a very pleasant planned community from way back when, and looks like a nice place for a stroll and window-shopping. The Bistro is attached to the neighborhood theatre and offers satisfying meals with a European feel. We started off with appetizers of a generous serving of Wagyu beef tartare (very tender, luscious mouth-feel, mildly beefy flavor) and big crab cakes (excellent, full of lump meat, very little breading). I followed this with the house Quarter salad, which was well-done with micro-greens, almonds, and raisins, and a delicate sherry vinaigrette dressing. For my main entree, I had their roasted duck breast (medium-rare, meaty, and not fatty), accompanied by a truffled mushroom risotto (so very good and autumnal) and sauteed broccoli rabe (not bitter at all). Here is a brief account of our evening at Quarter Bistro: 1. Enter restaurant, tell hostess you have 8:00 reservations 2: Wait 1 hour and 5 minutes for 8:00 reservations, while standing in the entry way having to move every five seconds for staff and patrons. 3: While waiting 1 hour and 5 minutes for reservation, have someone bump into you and spill your drink. 4: Be seated for dinner at 9:05! Now, based on steps 1-4, you may be asking yourself, why is this crazy chick giving this place four stars? The reason we waited so long for our table is because we were a large group, and we were waiting on the other large group, a large group of OLD PEOPLE I might add, to give up their table. It was not the restaurants fault it took so long to seat us. The place was packed, and there were only a few big tables. Moral of this story, when in doubt, blame the old fogies. Overall, the food was very good, and we got free drinks for waiting so long. We closed the place down because we got seated so late, but no one tried to rush us out. I'll be back, but word to the wise, this is NOT the place to go with a lot of people. read more

Quarter Bistro is aptly named as every time I've ever been here I feel like I'm getting about 25% from the staff. The first time I stopped in on a weekend night without reservations and received an extremely smug and unhappy welcome. I understand that maybe I should have called ahead and made reservations but I don't need to feel inadequate from a snobby hostess because I failed to do so. I decided not to wait and take my business to the neighboring National Exemplar (a much better choice as I would later learn). The second time I showed up prepared - I was 15 minutes early and with a reservation. Nearly 45 minutes later I was sat outside in the cold (when I requested to be sat inside). They were nice enough to have heaters outside and bring us a couple blankets to ensure we were comfortable. But when I'm dropping a Benjamin for a couple of entrees and some wine I'd rather not feel like I'm dining at the North Pole. The third time I dined here I was sat promptly after arriving at a nice table inside the building. I finally thought that this would be the time I got the full experience at the Quarter Bistro. I was wrong. Our server was a joke. No wine knowledge, no menu knowledge, no personality. What a shame! My last visit was practically the same thing, slow crappy service. I must say that the food has been good every time I've dined here but I've said it once and I'll say it again - bad service will ruin a dining experience. So in the end, I have given up on the Quarter Bistro. And its uber disappointing as I love everything Mariemont. The location of this place is outstanding, smack dab in the middle of the square right next to the movie theatre. But what a waste. I'd love to see this place shut down and replaced with a restaurant that has a friendly competent staff and doesn't require you to wear your polar arctic thermals to dine in (or outside as luck might have it). read more

We had an outstanding dinner at Quarter Bistro. The service was top notch (even when she got busy) and the food was fantastic. We ordered the crab cake as an appetizer. It was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The lobster bisque was really good and the short rib entree was excellent. The s'mores dessert was our favorite part. My only complaint is that the tables are set pretty close together, but it wasn't intrusive. The restaurant is pretty small, so they have to be close together. read more

We stayed at the hotel next door and needed a restaurant fast, as we were very hungry. The food was very good and the service was good as well. Loved the mini baguettes and the dessert was excellent. People complained in other reviews about the noise and closeness of the table seating, but for we New Englanders, it was just fine and a reasonable amount of space between tables. read more

Ya! I'm a fan is right! I came here for a quaint girl's night expecting more of a small bar. This is nothing like what I expected. This place is so beautiful, and now that is is decorated for the holidays it just sings! There are poinsettia's everywhere and lights, and it's upscale but feels homey at the same time. We ordered champagne and red wine. They had a great drink selection, a bit pricier but for what you are getting is quality. We started with the french onion soup that was one of the best I've ever had. Also a cheese plate that was great. I don't think it was worth the price though. There are a lot of places offering cheese plates now, for less. I ordered the pepperoni pizza for an entree. It was super flavorful and I loved the crust. A bit of a pricier night, but a great meal. Very charming! Although, I cannot wait to visit their patio in the summer. It is huge! And has a great view. Will be back for sure. read more

I have lived in this area for years, but for some reason, we never made it to this little spot, regardless of what it was named. Last night, spur of the moment, we decided to drop in and we are so glad we did! We ate inside, and there were lots of other diners, but not too crowded. It was much nicer inside than I had thought, with a welcoming but comfortable, sophisticated vibe. The other diners seemed to be the sort you would see anywhere in Mariemont. Our server, Justin, was friendly and made some suggestions/recommendations that were spot-on. The gentleman at the door who welcomed us and took us to our table stopped by as well to see if we wanted something other than water to drink, and that was a charming touch. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer. Delicious! Tender, not over-cooked, lovely broth. Crostini could have been a touch more generous to sop up all of that broth, but overall, a very nice dish. I had the glazed Gerber chicken with the Porcini truffle risotto. OMG. This was fabulous! Recommended by Justin, again, and absolutely perfect chicken. Juicy, hot, seasoned just right. The glaze was also very tasty and went with the chicken and the risotto very well. It was a large enough portion that I had leftovers to bring home for lunch today! My son had the special, a NY Strip steak with Haricot Vert (he passed on the potatoes), and it was cooked absolutely perfectly. Strips are not his favorite cut, but this one may have changed his mind. Only slight misstep was that there were to be grilled asparagus also, and they were missing, but we were satisfied and didn't even mention it to the server. It's a little pricey, no surprise, but one of the best meals I have had in months. We'll be back. This would be a nice place for a ladies dinner out, a romantic date, a small group, or a special occasion. read more

I went to Quarter Bistro last night with family and boy, was it disappointing. I'm going to preface this by saying that I have a lot of restaurant experience, all BOH, and what I saw was disheartening. And I'm not some pompous "foodie" - I just know how things are supposed to run and it pisses me off when I see what I experienced last night. The food itself was quite disappointing. I'm not sure the chef has a good handle on what's going on there, but considering he was running glassware to the bar (no joke) and food to tables with, I can only guess, his sous chef, there are bigger problems in that kitchen. Spring pea and mint soup. My fault, I guess, for thinking it would be a chilled soup because... spring peas! But it was hot, camo green and hardly any mint to be found. The spinach and ricotta ravioli were a joke - 5 ravs, and not al dente, they were undercooked. I expected some lovely fluffy ricotta inside but it was a runny gooey flat mess, mostly spinach. The wild mushrooms and broccoli rabe? Mostly mushrooms and I swear 1 piece of rabe. The tomato confit was ridiculous - three little grape tomatoes that were most certainly not confited, they looked boiled and much the worse for it. They serve bread in paper bags. What? Aside from being seriously wasteful on an environmental scale, it doesn't look "whimsical" or "innovative", it looks stupid. So why didn't I send anything back? Well, here's the thing. The place was packed, and I get that the kitchen was slammed. I bet the servers dropped 50-60 menus at the same time which means death for a line. My dad said something to the manager about being understaffed and he mumbled something about it being because of the rain - what? They would have had the same number of diners outside that had to move inside - they were understaffed no matter what. I didn't see anyone move with any sense of urgency, our server didn't take our order for almost 30 minutes and then the food took forever - no explanation, nothing. I watched the ONE BUSSER take 5 minutes to reset a table while we sat there with dirty plates in front of us for over 15 minutes. That is unacceptable for any restaurant, but especially one with these prices. I had to ask the manager to get our table cleared - he walked away to find someone. Let me tell you something about being a restaurant manager: when a guest asks you to do something for them, you do it yourself! You don't let your executive chef run barware - grab a tray and do it yourself! I've watched the GM of a 300+ seat steakhouse with 25 years experience roll up his sleeves and wash dishes when the washer broke down on a Saturday night! Maybe they should visit a Skyline or a Frisch's - the food is what it is, but they get service, somehow. The food is mediocre at best, the service is sloppy and slow, and it was hot as hell in there. With the National Exemplar across the street, they'd best step up their game. Go at your own peril, I will certainly not go back. read more

Extremely welcoming and the manager runs a tight ship to ensure everyone is on point. Case in point - I was meeting some friends for drinks and didn't realize the restaurant didn't open until 5. This French-style bistro is in the heart of Mariemont Village square. Oddly, as another reviewer noted, the best item on the menu is the guacamole. Although, I would say it is not the best in Cincinnati. The food selection is moderately seductive in terms of offerings, but the taste is only par. Our table tried a variety of items on the menu from a burger (he doesn't have a large desire to try outside his box) to more "exotic" fare like swordfish. Drink: The only reason I am giving the place 2 stars is the wine selection. It is absolutely fantastic and extensive. I think this might be a good place to go for wine and appetizers as opposed to main entrees. Service: Horrid and uninformed. The servers were not only without knowledge of the items on their menu but also without any sense for what "good service" is. Had I been in the Mohave, I would have died of thrist... I came here for a business dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We started at the bar where I had the Remus cocktail (Bulliet Rye, Amaro, Sweet Vermouth, Orange 'King of the Boot Leggers') which was absolutely delicious. At our table our party shared the mussels and the guacamole starters. The mussels were well prepared without the slightest bit of grit so often found in this dish. The guacamole was on point, though the chips were nothing special. For my entree I had the chicken, which was flavorful though I have to say rather dry. However, the porcini mushroom risotto it was served with was heavenly - I wished I could trade the chicken in for more risotto! The atmosphere in the restaurant was modern but a bit visually confused. I'm not sure what they were "going for" with the decor. The noise level was very reasonable considering the size of the space and the crowd. I did like that the tables along the walls had plantings between them to provide a visual divider, so even though they were close together you had some privacy from your neighboring party. The service was attentive but not overbearing. If I find myself in this area again, I would definitely give The Quarter a second visit. read more

We had just finished the "i never order chicken in restaurants" conversation and how Boca makes you rethink that line of thought..the quarter bistro also makes a compelling case for chicken! I had the special...a black trout with bean cakes. it was ok, nothing to write home about. the wine list was small but pretty decent, the prices were about double of retail, so not outrageous. we enjoyed the meal, the service was good, but we wont rush back anytime soon! read more

My husband and I can't express how much we enjoyed our fixed menu Valentines Day dinner last night! We have eaten at this restaurant in the past but last night was incredible. We both enjoyed a delicious crab cake for our first course and the presentation was perfect too. The lobster bisque for our second course was equally enjoyable. After this course a wonderful palette cleanser comprised of champagne with strawberry sorbet was served. For our third course my husband ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the mushroom and artichoke ravioli. Again, each were very savory along with the artistic presentation. For the last course my husband ordered the chocolate po de creme and I ordered the red almond cake. A perfect ending to our romantic night! read more

My husband and I recently went to The Quarter for our anniversary. We were expecting higher quality, I guess, for the prices. The food seemed comparable to a restaurant we go to in Columbus, Figlio's, but the prices are considerably higher. And we didn't find all of the wait staff to be friendly when we put our face masks on at they approached our outside table. What the staff may not realize is that customers do notice when you give them a dirty look. They also don't know the medical history of all the people who are customers and the reason for the extra precaution. Frankly, we were disappointed and won't be returning any time soon. read more

I don't understand why we are always able to walk in on a Friday or Saturday night without a reservation and get seated immediately. This place is wonderful! The service is inconsistent, and the atmosphere is cramped and noisy, but the food far exceeds expectations. It's very, very good. I particularly recommend the short ribs (also available in surprisingly delicious taco form) with the lamb lollipops appetizer. The beet salad is great (as are all the salads, and large to boot), and it's plentiful enough to keep your poop red for days. The only downside is that for a bistro, there just aren't many steak options. If you want a nice big steak, go somewhere else. We haven't made it to dessert yet, for whatever that's worth. Time your date well, because the Mariemont Theater is just next door, and Graeter's is right there too. read more

First time back in a few years. Food tasted fine, outside seating loud/crowded but nice; however, value equation completely off. Had the most expensive entree salad (Beet salad - $15), and it was literally side salad size. Was the first one finished by large margin. Tasted very good, but nothing like I've ever seen in any other restaurant. Told server, nicely, about the size issue; final response was "you're not the first to mention, we're going to discuss". No offer of more salad, or anything else to compensate. Needed to eat more after - was just not enough. Hopefully will be rectified soon read more

Since we had to make reservations, I guess I was expecting something more, but with the plastic menu covers (I see someone else noticed this), I didn't know what to make of this place. The prices are fancy. As I looked around the tables near me, the selections looked great. The atmosphere was fine and it fulled up within the 30 minutes after we arrived so it is popular, although the average age I would guess was easily 62. After scanning the menu, I chose the burger because I remembered it was on Cincinnati Magazine's Burger Heaven list ranked higher than Quatmans, which is a new favorite. It said toppings upon request, but it became a guessing game of what I wanted and what they had. In the end, I had a plain burger with the usual through the garden (lettuce, tomato pickle on the side). It was a tasty burger with crispy fries on the side, but in the end it was overpriced compared to what you can experience at other places. One of my dinner companions had the fish tacos and enjoyed them, but didn't rave about them. With so many places to dine, I doubt we'll head back any time soon. read more

The food is delicious and very well prepared. Prices are a little spendy but not too bad. The inside is nicely decorated and upscale. The crowd is a little older, (most over 40-50 yrs.) so not as hip/young as a few other places but still a nice place for dinner. Also puddles of grease on top of cheese. Restrooms - in the theatre next door.... Wait staff - very polite, but not extremely attentive until they see you nearing the end of a plate, then they practically rush over to take it. Brick oven pizzas and home-made pastas are complemented with a number of creative salads and seafood items. The wine list is sufficient beyond the single glass offerings and the desserts are quite appealing. Service was excellent in both attentiveness and timeliness. I was a little put off by the plastic covered menus at this otherwise upscale restaurant. But the real problem is that The Quarter doesn't really know what kind of restaurant it wants to be. It's certainly not French. It used to be Latin, but they dropped that designation at some point. Now, it's basically upscale American, I guess. On my most recent visit, my birthday dinner, I ordered the scallops special. They were competently prepared, but certainly nothing special. My mother loved the mussels she ordered, along with a side of risotto, that was divine. Overall, it was a nice dinner, but I doubt I'll go back any time soon. read more
