After sending a formal complaint to the general manager, she invited me back (with a plus one) for dinner. Our experience was ten times better. We started with the cherry bomb mocktail (for my friend) and the pineapple mule mocktail (for me). Both were phenomenal - very yummy! Then our server brought us some bread and butter - I could eat the whole basket. It was a honey butter with everything bagel seasoning mixed in - never had it before and didn't think those flavors would work, but we ordered another basket of bread! So good! For our meals, we both ordered the salmon, well done & blackened. Instead of the broccolini, I ordered a side Caesar salad. I'm not a fan of the risotto but that's only because I don't eat dairy regularly- I avoid it. My friend loved the risotto, the salmon and the broccolini. Stayed at the hotel for a friends wedding and decided to eat here. Tried this place TWICE and both times is did not impress. Service is slow. Came for dinner the first night towards the end of service and the server straight up told us he hasn't worked in 4 weeks and didn't know the menu. Then proceeded to tell us we have 5 mins to order to disappear and not even take our drink orders. Had to ask the bartender to find our server so we can order. It was also empty and we were put in a dark corner instead of a well lit table. For the price, the flavors were ok. Maybe because it was the end of service but it wasn't anything spectacular. We were rushed out and told if we wanted to stay to hang at the bar which we ended up doing. The next morning we went for brunch. Went maybe 30 mins into service to find no one in the restaurant. Thought we read the sign wrong but we were right. It took over 20 mins to get the server to get our drink orders (just an AJ and coffee) then ordered our breakfast which took another 30 mins to come out for it to be cold. I had the steak and eggs: asked for medium rare, got it blue and cold. Was never asked how I wanted my eggs and those were also cold. Only hot thing on my plate was the potatoes. Friend also ordered waffles that were cold and dry so we knew the food was sitting out for a while before it came to our table. We visited the Overlook for carry out during Cincy Wing Week and tried their "everything wings" that are normally on the menu and a Korean BBQ feature that I think was a special offering for wing week. We aren't dining in anywhere due to the pandemic right now, but I'm looking forward to getting back to this place. Don't be scared that it's on the 4th floor of a hotel. Free parking in the garage and a quick elevator trip. Plenty of outdoor space at this spot makes me want to go back for drinks in the warmer weather. The total surprise was the Everything wings. Tossed in a mustard aioli and topped with everything bagel seasoning, I didn't expect to like these. I like my wings like they like them in Buffalo! But these were a very happy surprise. I had a great dinner here and hope more people try this place because I honestly feel like it's an overlooked restaurant (pun intended)! It's in the Summit Hotel so you can walk through the hotel and see some cool art on your way up to the restaurant. The restaurant is on the 4th floor, but there's 9 floors, so I was kind of confused why they didn't put the restaurant at the top. But all of their (huge) event space is on the 4th floor, so maybe that's why. My friends and I came here on a Wednesday night at 7:30 for Cincy Wing Week, which was also the night of the huge snowstorm. When we walked in, there 3 people having drinks at the bar, and a completely empty restaurant. Such a bummer, because the space is huge, so maybe the snow scared people away? They have an extensive craft cocktail menu, and we were all very happy with the drinks we ordered. They also have a decent selection of local craft beer. We ordered quite a few items off the menu and loved everything we had! Tots + dip - these were awesome. They are similar to a small hashbrown and so good! Butternut squash soup - super flavorful and delicious Everything wings - again, awesome! They're served with a mustard aioli that offsets all the everything spices nicely. Roasted brussels sprouts - these come topped with caesar dressing, breadcrumbs, and parmesan. The caesar dressing isn't overpowering and the brussels sprouts are perfectly roasted. My friends had the seared salmon and smash burger and they said the fish and burger were cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back here to try more items! read more

My mom and I met up for dinner for a ticketed "starving artists hospitality" event, where they offered a prix fixe menu from a visiting chef group. First things first - the space is beautiful, the open kitchen is awesome, the tables and plates and overall ambiance has a casual, cool, upscale vibe. Tables are appropriately spaced, guests and staff are wearing masks, it feels safe, without feeling isolated. When we got there for the dinner we were seated and greeted by a waitress almost immediately, she took drink orders and our appetizer order. We opted for separate appetizers, myself the soup, my mother the salad. Her wine and diet coke came by a separate server very quickly, as did our amuse bouche - a plate with a few slices of chorizo and pickled veggies. The pickling was aggressive, with no flavor, and seemed a "quick pickle" that didn't really soften the harder carrots, like at all. Chorizo is nice enough, if a little heavy in the mouthful. This dish didn't do anything positive for me, but I also wasn't expecting it so no real harm. While dropping off our appetizers the waitress asked us for our entree orders, so we've been served two courses and ordered the third within 15 minutes of sitting down. It felt a little rushed. Our salad and soup were both great, and came out almost immediately after the amuse bouche. The vegetarian pozole had good flavors, lots of veggies, both plusses. Salad was a bit overdressed and acidic, but it also made the raw kale much more digestible and combatted the bitterness that can come from raw greens. We're looking back up! Entree, again almost immediately after clearing our plates, they're moving fast. A pretty small piece of mahi, which disappointed me. I recognize at $40/3 courses I wouldn't be getting a LARGE piece of fish, but this was smaller than I expected. Fortunately, the cook and execution of every aspect of the plate was top notch. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and accompanied with some incredible blue corn grits, the entrees only failure was in it's size. Maybe I'm a glutton, but as I finished and was still hungry, I spent some time sitting thinking "Man I want more of that." And I spent quite a bit of time sitting too, because after the breakneck pace of the first 30 minutes of our meal, we were seemingly forgotten. One person from the visiting chef group came by, but he didn't notice or offer to replace our drinks, which had long since emptied. When we did flag a waitress they took our plates, asked for our dessert order, and promised our refills. Literally 30 minutes later our to-go beignets arrived, just as our refills did. While the waitress did apologize, and I recognize that they're probably running with an absolute skeleton crew due to pandemic staffing (fewer people minimizes spread), it was jarring after feeling shoved along at every step prior. Mistakes happen, they were gracious in the commission of said mistakes, and the meal was overall enjoyable enough that I know I'll be returning. Hopefully to a bigger piece of fish next time. Went here for a nice lunch. Food was overpriced for the quality. We got the wings and bread with mushrooms to start. Both okay, not amazing. I got the quinoa and arugula salad. Was disappointed by the small amount of toppings, as most of it was just arugula. The chicken I got with it was weird too..? Not even close to worth $20. And I don't recommend eating outside if you aren't a fan of bees flying around you and your food. Our server was nice. However it took absurdly long to receive our entrees. While my brother was still finishing his food, a young lady approached us saying she's here to take out plates. Looking at him like he needed to hurry up, even though there was only one other outdoor table. We also had to ask for the check. Overall it was fine, but will not be returning for lunch at least. I came to the Overlook for an impromptu happy hour after work recently and have to say I was wowed in some regards but let down in others. This restaurant is part of the Summit hotel near Medpace and boasts modern decor, an inventive menu, and nice views from both the inside portion and the outside deck. It took us a couple of tries to figure out where to park. Hint: in the garage behind/under the hotel, but there's no attendant or signage to help you figure this out. On the plus side, it's free. Once inside, we ordered wine and a cocktail. The menu was limited but curated, which made it easy to pick. I had a glass of A to Z pinot noir which was a generous pour, and my friend had the Kentucky mule which she enjoyed. Partway through the first drink we decided to order dinner. At the server's recommendation, we split four appetizers--ahem, excuse me, "snax": the pretzel with goetta cheese, the hummus, the lamb and the eggplant. Now, everything was delicious, amazing, so good, but...TINY!! The pretzel was a normal size, but everything else was SO SMALL. The lamb dish was only one chop; the eggplant was three slices stacked up. We made it clear when we ordered that this was dinner, not bar food, and even asked the server her advice on how many dishes to pick. The impression we got was that this should be more than enough food for the two of us. I understand that appetites vary, but trust me when I say that two petite ladies left hungry from this "meal." I'm giving the Overlook 4 stars for the convenient location and free parking, excellent view, swanky decor, good drinks, and delicious, innovative menu. I decided to come into Overlook Kitchen and Bar for Valentines Day, as it was one of the few places with reservations left - and I can see why. Upon arrival, we had to wait 5 minutes for anyone to seat us. First, we ordered pretzels as an appetizer. The order was not put in and we ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for that. I ordered the tagliatelle with no mushrooms and the other person ordered a Cubano with no Dijon mustard. 10 minutes later, we were told that they cannot make it without the mustard, as they are already pre-made. (not too sure why a $14 sandwich is pre-made, but okay?) Another 20+ minutes pass and the food finally comes out. The tagliatelle was definitely nothing to rave home about. It was incorrect and had mushrooms, so I can only presume that was also pre-made. The only redeeming quality was that our waitress was very kind and was trying her best, so there were no issues there. Overall, the food and value was not worth it. Enjoyed a peaceful, lovely, quiet dinner at Overlook kKtchen and Bar! The large terrace has beautiful view, and all directions including sunset!. It's in a busy area below but from that 4th floor level you mainly notice trees & hills. The menu is interesting with not all of the expected items, but some interesting ingredients and twists. But you can still get a steak or a burger if that's what you are looking for. We were all quite happy with our food. Daniel offered perfect service. We were hotel guests so we dined in multiple times while there. This is the only restaurant for lunch/dinner in the hotel. They also serve breakfast in the morning on the other side of the restaurant however I would still consider this essentially one restaurant. We probably tried majority of everything on the menu because we went here for lunch and dinner a couple times. The first time we did not realize the lunch and dinner menu is the same all day so we ended up eating there twice in one day because we did not feel like venturing out of the hotel. The prices are medium to high, but the ingredients used all come from local businesses which I am a huge fan of. The service was slow to mediocre- could use some improvement. My favorite things was the grilled cheese, pasta, wings, and the duck bacon crostini. The crostini was not quite a crostini because it was staled - but I enjoyed the bacon, arugula and cheese spread. The hotel itself is very trendy and artsy. There is a art exhibit part of the hotel, and they have a couple of areas on site that would be great for large events. While there, they had a silent auction for art pieces painted by children. This was a nice surprise we got to experience! The hotel and rooms itself is as pictured- which was a relief. The rooms were very clean, and the beds/bedding were very comfy so we were able to get rest when we had down time. I would say the only issue I had was were did stay for 3 nights and housekeeping never cleaned our room. The first time we were still in the room so we asked they come back. No one came back. The next day we left for a few hours, and housekeeping was next door, we put the sign out of the door to refresh our room just to make sure- when we returned still untouched. We had to call guest services to request towels, toilet paper, coffee, and to take it our trash. You can imagine I was not thrilled. We had a super early flight the next day so the entire trip we did not have our room cleaned at all except by me which is not really something I wanted to do while on vacation. I would also mention they have direct tv and it was raining so the cable did not work. I would also point out the hotel has a gym and a yoga studio- but not pool. Honestly,i think it is a huge negative there is not a pool because if you have kids- kids want to swim and there is really not a good place to stay if you have kids. There is nothing for them to do unless they know how to shoot pool. P.S. the location is convenient - close to a lot of local restaurants, close to downtown, highway, however as nice as the hotel is - it is in the middle of an interesting neighborhood. I stopped by Overlook Kitchen + Bar during Cincinnati burger week, so my review is going to be a little skewed towards that perspective. It's a pretty decent restaurant in a somewhat surprising venue. Food: For an appetizer, we ordered the Summit Roots. It's a combination of taro, beet and sweet potato chips, which is paired really well with the onion dip. We all ordered the Summit burger, and to be honest, this was a really good burger. I loved the fresh, light, airy sesame bun. My only complaint with the burger was that my medium burger was actually well done, accidentally switched with someone else at my table. The burger comes with fontina cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle and a special house sauce. The menu is pretty extensive, from soup to wings to salads to strip steak. I typically don't expect much from hotel restaurants, but the burger was definitely a good choice. Service: They seemed very busy when I came, which may be because of the conference or Burger Week. I joined some friends who had already been seated and had ordered appetizers and drinks. Our food came out fairly quick, but we did have to track down a server to get utensils and napkins, and again to get our check. Facilities: Overlook is inside The Summit Hotel. This is a newer hotel in Oakley, pretty modern, and just seems kind of out of place. It's a pretty large hotel geared toward conferences. 200+ rooms, lots of conference rooms and spaces, and even when I went on a Friday evening, I saw a ton of people there for a conference based on the signage and name tags they were wearing. The restaurant is up on the 4th floor, and has both indoor and outdoor seating, and a bar area. I was seated at a small hightop by the bar and didn't really check out the outdoor area. The hotel has valet parking, as well as a small indoor one level parking garage. I didn't have any issue finding a spot in the garage when I came on a Friday evening. read more

So imagine my shock when we arrived at 1pm with my elderly mom and aunt and Sarah K. said they can't seat us because they don't have our reservation. We just had three in our group tonight for burger night. Had reservations, were sat down and told about the beers on tap by presumably the manager. We were handed a bag of stale pork rinds when we were walked to the table. Really odd. Not every table seemed to get them. And glasses of water for the table. From there, it took about 20 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. Every time we asked about a beer (I'll have the Braxton Mint Julep one) - he would walk away from the table, out of sight. It was comically odd. And come back 5-10 seconds later and take another drink order, leave and come back. He seemed a little confused about the food order as well. Finally 50 minutes after arriving, our first bar order arrived. A full 30 minutes after ordering items. Our poor waiter just seemed to be nervous talking to anyone at any of his tables. A table next to us was clearly in his section but the manager took their order. They were seated about 25 minutes after us but had their drinks and food way before ours. Food finally arrived, wasn't bad. Had the crispy duck and beef burgers for Burger Week with a few sides. Thing is, a lot of tables around us seemed to be having issues with their bills, or service at their table. People were getting up to find servers quite often. Maybe the place was understaffed - it didn't seem to be. Even when the manager-type guy would be at our table, he never asked how things were, so we didn't volunteer. They have a decent wine selection and an beautiful patio, if you don't look directly down there's a nice view of trees too. This is a new hotel and I had the pleasure of staying for a meeting. The food created by Chef Kyle and service by Justin and the entire staff was fantastic. Even if you aren't staying at the hotel, The Overlook is worth going to. From small plates (killer pretzel) to large plates (ribeye!) the locally sourced food and drink will make this restaurant the place to be. Open Table would only let me reserve a table for 6 or less for the day I was wanting even though we were going to have 8. Tried calling the restaurant numerous times to see if I could make a reservation for 8 but no one ever answered the phone. The 6 of us met this past Saturday (2/25) for our reservation and were given their lunch menu. We asked about brunch and the person that was not only playing hostess but our waitress said they no longer did brunch. Overlook is a bit of a stretch, as what it overlooks is a busy intersection and a construction parking lot which will presumably become another office building or parking garage. Had a bit more care been taken, and a row of hedges been planted in planter boxes or lattice with greenery - the outdoor patio could've had a very cool courtyard vibe. This area will NEVER have a view - so why not embrace and turn into something cool? As with the decor of the hotel - this decor/vibe totally missed the mark. Lunch on the patio similarly missed the mark. There were three tables of diners, yet, inexplicably we were all seated right next to each other during COVID. The menu was a little sparse but I'd rather have a small menu done well than a huge menu that's mediocre. Turns out this one is small and somewhat mediocre as well. There are only 2 proteins offered as additions to the salads - chicken and salmon. As both are pretty easy to cook at home; we've had enough and I asked for steak. Despite there being a steak sandwich AND a steak entree on the menu they refused. Two in our party got the chicken and said it was tasteless and rubbery. The Brussels Caesar was simply Brussels Sprouts drizzled in Caesar dressing. Not horrible but all of the salads were very small for the price. We also got the pork rinds (this keto dieter was very happy to see them on the menu!) but the cheese sauce that came with them was luke warm and the waiter could not say whether it was low carb or not. They were unremarkable. Overall, this restaurant and location totally missed the mark. The hotel started with some good bones but was finished with really cheap and tacky finishes. Seems that carried over to the restaurant. It's too bad because we could use some more outdoor dining locations. If they had created an interesting patio experience I would've tried it again for dinner and given the entrees a chance. I was so excited to try this place, but ended up being very underwhelmed. The rooftop is huge and aesthetically pleasing, but that's about the only positive aspect. The cocktails listed on their menu are mostly bourbon based (not a fan) and their food menu is not extensive...I didn't see anything that sounded like a must-try. A friend and I went for a post-work cocktail at 5:30 on a Friday. Besides two other people at a table, it was completely empty. I had called prior to inquire about happy hour specials and live entertainment that evening, but there's only music during the week and the only hh specials were beer discounts. I ended up ordering a cosmo martini (small) which was $10. If this place wants to draw (and keep) locals, they need to add more small plates and have weekend entertainment. More happy hour specials would be a plus as well. Hopefully it succeeds as it is near my house. read more
