It's a nice old British pub that's nicely decorated. They take reservations except on Friday nights. There's a parking lot beside the pub and it it was full, there's ample street parking is available. The menu is modest; they have variety of beers and wine, but not many cocktails. Many shareable food items, handhelds and of course the fried Mars bar for dessert. It's a nice pub for gatherings and you can be a loud crowd all you want lol. The staff are also friendly. read more

Gord and I had tickets to see the Tartan Terrors night at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. We had supper before the show at the Queen's Head, which is a couple blocks from the theatre. It's a cute pub. I ordered chicken wings with honey garlic sauce. They were good and definitely large. They took care of my craving for wings. Gord ordered Four Cheese Mac & Cheese. He said it was good and he'd get it again. He ended up taking some home as leftover. When we got there, an order of onion rings was taken to another table and they looked so good that we had to split an order. I don't have onion rings often and these were good. Andi was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us. We had time to kill before the show and she let us linger. read more

As usual if I follow my "rules" when I visit pubs, my experiences ended up being A-OK. Don't ever order any food! Always stick with beers! I have even been to one that screw up my beers as yet... Here at The Queen's Head is no exception. Beer Selection has English/Irish Pub usual but it is not some gastro or craft brewery pub. My Tennent's Lager is cold and light. My friend's Fish and Chips has one of the most nasty fries I tasted, but luckily I didn't order that. I didn't realize that my CM Kris U was looking to enjoy some sophisticated mixed drinks, if so I would have drag him to other lounges in the area instead. The Queen's Head is A-OK for a quick pint but that's what I really need most of the time anyway! read more

Quick & easy breakdown of my visit here: -It was warm & stuffy inside. Granted, it was a warm day for the end of April, but not warm enough to warrant the stuffiness inside here. About 30 minutes after we had arrived they turned the air on. -Ordered a very simple screwdriver (vodka & OJ). It was SUPER watered down. The OJ wasn't great. With a simple drink you should really ensure that both elements are executed properly. -Very obviously frozen fries & mozz sticks (boo!) -Service was nice. They attempted to make an Old Fashioned for Kris U. but it didn't turn out too well (points for trying, though?!) If I find myself back in the Oakville area anytime soon, I don't think I will hurry back to this spot! read more

Lived in Oakville for 14 years and just discovered this gem. Now i need to make up for lost time! Located in downtown Oakville, this pub has a great pub feel with the dark wood panels and tables. Asked what's on draught and the server rhymed off a long list from memory. We ordered a burger and fish and chips. My SO loved his burger and the fish and chips were delicious. The fish was a delicious crispy lightly battered filet served over crispy fries with a side of slaw. Went all in and ordered the apple cranberry crumble for dessert. Flavour was great but the crumble to fruit ratio was too high and I felt like I was eating mainly crumble. The ice cream helped though. Next trip must try the steak pie or the liver or the chicken curry or the wings or the salads.... read more

I've been here three times. The most accurate way I can express my feelings towards the Queen's Head with the simple phrase "meh". Believe me, I don't use the word lightly, and tend to condemn those who frequently use it online. With this said you can believe me that the Queens Head is truly 'ho hum' (what is wrong with me...) Anyhow, it's an Irish pub. I'm not into the whole Irish pub thing in the first place. It just seems to folksy and in some situations downright cheesy. It's really just like every Irish pub. It doesn't attempt to innovate or do anything new. The interior decor is predictable, you'll have seen it before, even on a first time visit. My knowledge of the menu is limited. I've only had the 'pub fries'. What are Pub fries, you might be asking (or maybe you don't care, I don't blame you). They are simply poutine. Why they're called Pub Fries rather than poutine is beyond my level of comprehension, and I fancy myself a high level thinker. They're pretty typical pub fare. They use shredded cheese instead of curds, which always disappoints, but they taste about right. When asking for a rye and ginger, they gave me a rye and club soda (repeatedly) thanks guys. The service is very 'adequate'. Not the speediest, not the most attentive, but what can you do. Come to the queens head for some pub fries and incorrectly made drinks. Don't take the name of the place literally, it's a restaurant, not a massage parlor. Oh, one final gripe, they asked me for my credit card upfront and held it until the end of the meal each time, like I appear to be some kind of flight risk. Give me a break. read more

Midway through out ambitious day of Oakville exploration, weary legs and tired feet needed a break from all the Oakville-ness so we decided to take up rest and libations on this little local pub located on Dunn, just north of Lakeshore. From what I could see, it's a pub, a plain old english/irish/scottish pub. Complete with maroon seat coverings, wood fixtures and dim lighting (even on the bright warm day that was going on outside). However, I have to agree with Bryan P and say "Meh" is the correct term to describe this place. The beer selection was good but I was looking for a mix drink. I asked if they could make an Old Fashioned and the server said "absolutely," and then asked me what was in it..... shakes head. I give them kudos on trying to make me a Old Fashioned, but when it arrived it was water filled and you couldn't taste the bourbon. Again points for trying. Where they lost points was when one of my group ordered a simple screwdriver (vodka, orange juice) and it came back weak, and likely made with gun concentrate OJ. Come on guys! Two people in out group decided to have a small bite to eat and I got a chance to try their fries off of one of my yelper friends plate and were clearly very frozen...almost hard still inside. The size was good but..... ya. I'd come back I think and update my review when I'm in town again...however next time maybe I'll have a beer (or three). We just had dinner here and really enjoyed ourselves. David had the Tetley's bitter which seemed well kept. Large pub menu had quite a bit of variety. He had fish and chips and I had the daily special chicken and rice soup and an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were okay, but not really flavourful. The soup, however, was absolutely fabulous -- full of herbs and root vegetables and really bursting with flavour. Love the atmosphere -- it's a real pub -- and the service was friendly. read more

We have been ordering take-out from this pub for years (same order every time). I'm not sure if they have recently hired new staff, but we received shockingly terrible customer service from Brie on our last take-out order. Not at all a good representation of the Queen's Head. read more

This is British (not Irish, in my opinion) pub. And a good one. You don't go to a pub for fancy meals or elaborate cocktails. You go for a great pint of beer (Tetleys and London Pride are my favorites) and pub grub. I have tried the fish and chips, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and various pot pies. All were very good by pub grub standards. I don't understand the less than good reviews. I have thoroughly enjoyed every visit to the Queen's Head. Try it. You'll love it. read more

If you want overpriced pub fare in downtown Oakville look no further. Menu and interior are crying out for change and a deep clean. It's packed Friday nights when the pensioners flock in for fish & chips. They don't take reservations unless you're a regular and only sometimes then. I don't get all the negative reviews. Of course it is dark and stuffy, it is an Irish pub. More a sports pub really with all the TVs around showing sports channels. I find the food quite excellent, the fish & chips always juicy and tender, the bangers and mash are the real thing, pots pies galore made in typical British fashion, and they even have a curry and naan to cater to the more modern England. The beer is cool, the wine terrible; it is a pub. What I like about it though, is that if we go around 5 or 6pm my kids can have a great meal and not be bothered by drunk patrons and they actually ask to go back. read more

Pub gub, this English pub is the closest I have found to the real thing in the GTA, it has the old English pub decor, comfort food and pints. The food is as you would expect from the typical pub, shepherd pie, fish and chips ect. Really good atmosphere, good service and good food. Horrible service! Cancelled our reservation last minute, which was made a week in advance, stating our group of 15 was too big.

Pretty mediocre food. Burger, although described as fresh ground meat wasn't that good. Had better at Harveys. Bacon seemed to be pre-fried and just topped on burger. Waitress asked "gravy or curry for fries" but did not specify that it was extra $1.75 for curry (which was horrible). Waitress was also too intrusive. A good place if you want a pub, ie drink beer (not fancy drinks, go to a bar) . The food also fits the pub profile, stick to basics , pies, fish and chips, salad, 9 times out of 10 the food is good, great place in the winter, but so good in the summer, real comfort food for ex-Brits. read more

My husband and I went to the Queen's head pub in oakville today at 330 PM. We had our two very well behaved children with us. When we entered the restaurant we asked for a high chair and were told they did not offer high chairs for children. I commented that perhaps this was because they didn't welcome children, to which the waitress responded "sorry" and turned away from our table as we got up to leave. They watched 4 diners walk out of their restaurant and did not have a single apology to offer. We have taken our children to many different high end restaurants all over the world so imagine our surprise that they were not welcome for an afternoon lunch at an oakville pub. I can understand that there is a time and place that children would not be welcome but 330 on a wednesday afternoon does not strike me as unreasonable. We left feeling like we had been discriminated against for having children. I will not return and will only visit establishments that do not discriminate against children read more
