This review is based on their opening night, so certain caveats obviously apply. Just based on food, I would give them a four. The mushroom burger was phenomenal, the prime rib dip was also very good, not sure about the cheese curds. What was more concerning was the service, particularly on opening night. Ordered a few beers and when the check came it had different, more expensive, beers on it. When this was pointed out to the bartender, she said that the different beers are the same price. When the menu was shown to the bartender where the beers we ordered were cheaper than the ones we were charged for, she said the price listed on the menu is wrong and there is nothing she could do to correct it. We didn't put up much of a fight over a few dollars because we really shouldn't have to in a situation where they are clearly in the wrong, but if that's the perspective you have on opening night when you're trying to draw new business, I'm a little worried about what things will be like after a few weeks. I'm wary to write this review because we did like the food and live in the neighborhood, so would definitely love to have another good restaurant option, but it's clear that some adjustments need to be made with a perspective on customer service. read more

I ate here for the first time with a friend on a not busy Sunday afternoon. Each drink was delivered separately despite being ordered together. The meals were also brought out separately. It was noticed but nothing terrible .. the food came out lukewarm at best which was disappointing since the A/C was blasting on this 55 degree day in November. The server was very friendly. I have been to the Rabbit Hole a few times and they never disappoint! The service is friendly, and the multiple staff members will come around to make sure your needs are met. Catherine has served me a few times, and she is so friendly and welcoming! The Rabbit Hole has a cool atmosphere with plenty of TV's to suit your sports desires. They have the biggest versions of Connect Four and Jenga I have ever seen. The food is delicious! I'm a big fan of the 1951 Burger and the Salmon Burger. Also, the mac and cheese is rich in flavor and the bigger bacon bits are a perfect touch. The wings and chicken sandwich are also pretty good. I heard they have Karaoke too. I think I'll give that a try! I find that some of the negative reviews are way off base, or they have a hidden agenda or motive. I was glad to see the other restaurant on Wells that this group owns go out of business (in the old Salpicon (RIP) space). Food here is reminiscent of pre-culinary awakening American fare: eg everything is bad and bad for you. I wish Wells St would start getting real restaurants instead of all this trash targeted to the I-am-still-in-college-or-recently-graduated-crowd. Stopped in on after reading a profile on the chef. The wings were amazing, especially the soy and garlic. Their beer list was impressive and extensive. The pumpkin ale I had was the perfect kick off to fall. It was obvious that the staff was stretched a little thin, but understandably so considering it was only their second night open. The chef even made a point to walk around to the different tables to ask for feedback. Excited to see what becomes of this place. Great new spot in the area. Cool beer selection and great food. My wife and I enjoy trying new places and we couldn't have found a nicer place. Staff was very friendly and the prices were very reasonable for the area. The best part about our visit was the food for me. We started with the candied bacon and BBQ sliders, both were really good. Then we got the southern fried chicken sandwich and the prime rib sandwich. I got the southern fried chicken sandwich and it was awesome. It had a nice subtle flavorful heat to it with fresh pickles to off set. One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. My wife loved the prime rib sandwich which came with a great au jus dipping sauce. She also got the Mimosa cocktail with the cinnamon rim and cider, and liked that a lot as well. This place has its perks and its downfalls. It has a great menu, a great beer list, giant jenga at the table, good music, and an overall cool vibe. So upon sotting down, i was pretty impressed. 5 stars They didnt have the beer i wanted, nor my second choice. Third choice was fine, still a good beer. This is a good upgrade to the previous places in this location. It looks like it is under new ownership and it has a much better atmosphere after the renovations. Their draft list is pretty strong and the few food items I've tried are solid for a sports bar. They have installed more tvs so that it is a good place to watch games. Worth checking out. read more

Only came for drinks. We were a little mislead about some advertisements/articles I saw about this place. It is definitely not a girls night out venue. It is a sports bar with a dozen flat screens with Alice in Wonderland style decor. The specialty cocktail presentation was cute as can be, but the flavors weren't exactly right. This place is super hip and cool. I came down here with my older brother and a few friends. Very modern, food is pretty fresh and tasty, and drinks are moderately priced. During the world series they seated our group at a table, served us, and didn't tell us till hours later that there is a reservation for the game and that we needed to leave shortly before the game started. Not impressed with this place at all. Some friends and I met up here as part of a painting class we were taking there for that night only. It's a cute place when you first walk in. First my friend's sliders were pink and undercooked, they did replace them. The food was 'okay'. When it came to the painting class we were taking, the agreement our painting studio had with them was that we could paint until 9pm, on a Wednesday night, with no problem or interruptions. There would be sound checks done around 8:45-8:50 for karaoke. Well that's not what happened. The band started with the sound checks at 8:30, and soon after that the music that had been playing was cranked up super loud, so loud that we couldn't even hear the instructors anymore and we all felt rushed because it was obvious to us all that they wanted us out of there, so that the five or six lonely other people sitting at the tables could fully enjoy their night of rock band karaoke. It was very rude and distracting, and I was embarrassed because I had invited four friends to this event and none of us had been there before. This was to celebrate my birthday with my friends and we were all looking forward to a fun relaxing time. What a let down due to the rudeness of the bar workers after we brought them business. We've been to a lot of basic bars in the Old Town Lincoln Park area and they've all been very good, the Rabbit Hole is different. The staff goes above and beyond, the food is delicious and will work with any issue you have and the owner is extremely committed to a great experience. I hosted a private birthday party here. Missy, the manager, was incredibly easy to work with and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. They let us come a bit early to decorate, stored our birthday cake, put out games/snacks for everyone- it was a great place for a private party! Our group (of 13) arrived and the waitress didn't greet us and already had an attitude. She was NOT AT ALL friendly or wanting to wait on use (we should have sat at the bar.... she was very friendly)We were ordering food and drinks and it felt like it was some Sort of inconvenience to the waitress or as if we were BOTHERING HER. I do like a lot of the artwork/decor in this place to go with the whole Wonderland theme, however, some of it is confusing and not explained, like the whiskey barrels... Do they make their own whiskey? I don't remember Alice drinking old fashioneds. Anyways, I tried a variety of cocktails and I appreciate that they are unique, however, I don't know that I would want to order any again for myself since the flavors didn't balance well. The slider has a nice sauce and they seemed to be cooked nicely. The chicken fingers seemed a little over fried since the chicken inside was a bit dry. The cheese curd with yogurt was really nice. I didn't like any of the flatbreads. They were quite soggy. The waitresses all seemed very nice and I interacted with 3. The bartenders weren't as excited. They have a lot of TVs so it might be a good sports bar option. They had live music but it's too small of a place for live music and drove us out because our ears were ringing so badly. The price points are a bit steep. I would think the quality needs to be uped or the price needs to come down. read more

Horrible experience. Original waitress was great. 4+ drinks and 2 appetizers $50. The gentleman (used lightly) that took over when she cashed out gave us a $22 tab for 1 drink,. After being questioned, he said 'oh the other girl had another'. So now we are at $11 for each? Not itemized on tab...why? Management...this was @ 6pm or so Saturday 4/29. We will not be back, and all 3 of us have very strong ties to the neighborhood and the gold cosst. We will recommend others do not visit either. I've gotten carryout here a few times. The wings are really good - the only drawback is the dipping sauces. Your only options are a dill ranch or blue cheese. The dill ranch is pretty heavy on the dill and the blue cheese has huge chunks, so it's pretty much impossible to dip the wings and get any sauce. If you're a wing guy, I'd recommend BYOB of ranch. read more

If you have peanut allergies, stay away. I suffered a peanut allergy from this place on Friday night. My face was swollen and I developed a rash because somebody was incompetent when cooking my food. I didn't ask for peanuts and it should have been posted in their menus for customers with peanut allergies. I returned to the restaurant a couple of days later. I spoke to my server whom was very sincere and concern about the matter. She informed the manager who was very condescending and act as if it was my fault for not notifying them of my allergy. The food I ordered didn't have peanuts listed as ingredients and I didn't ask for peanuts. The manager was more concerned about covering her a$$ as oppose to my pain and suffering. She looked at my swollen face with a smile the entire time we talked and she overtalked me to control the conversation.
