I used to love the Raft but not after the last experience I had. I'm sorry but if you have a leak in your ceiling, close the table. This happened awhile back now, but it really skewed my view of this place. How do you let a customer sit at a table that drips water from the ceiling. Who knows what was in that water. Makes me think if you don't care about such a think, how are things done in the kitchen. I used to enjoy the chili burger and the fried cauliflower, but something major would have to happen, like some renovations before I would consider going back. read more

I called ahead earlier in the week to let them know I was bringing 11 sailboats (and 23 people) and they had an extra server on duty. Every body was happy with the food and the service. The 12 docks, the outdoor picnic area and the view make it a perfect destination for an organized cruise. When the weather threatened to turn bad they let us linger at the docks. Ever since i was knee high to a grasshopper, my family would come to the raft. The burgers are awesome and not to be passed up. This is the kind of place you can make as a stop on a sunday drive through St. Johns marsh. I suggest taking a roll down Anchor Bay Drive and trying to find Deckers Landing while you are at it. Anchor Bay in the summertime is a great place to stare deep into the sunset over a couple soda pops. Not much to look at inside, but charming none the less. The service is always super nice and treats you like a regular. Anytime i step foot in this place, I get taken back to being ten years old and shooting straw wrappers at my brother. read more

I've never been so disappointed in a place "known" for its burgers in my life. They had only one size (6oz) but it looked smaller than a quarter pounder and the bun was huge. It had no taste until I doctored it up a lot. No, I won't be back. Even White Castle is better! read more

Stopped in for a couple beers, always looked packed when we drove by. Wasn't sure how to enter it just looked like a patio door on the front so we entered. Place was small and packed but in a good way. Lots of locals, couples and families with kids. Was a Saturday so expected it to be busy. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple drinks which were very fairly priced. Staff was super friendly and even shared a cool drink with my wife called a Blue Moon which tasted like blue moon ice cream. We enjoyed the time spent talking with the staff as things began to slow down. We also enjoyed a very rare sunset through the back window of the building. Can't wait to visit again to try The Raft Burger which is what they are best known for. Might be a tight squeeze to get our family of 12 in there on certain days, but may be able to reserve some seating in advance. Such a great location by the water, but beware of the dirt road that gets you there it's filled with huge mud holes so drive slow down the road. read more

Stopped in the other night...Saturday, September 14, 2013. I have been to this place for a quick lunch and thought we would try an evening with 3 adults and 3 teens. I will agree the aft burgers are very good but I was very dissatisfied with the way you are billed for your meal. If you ordered a burger that is listed at $4.89, a fish and chips order that was 9.99 a beer and a coke...what would be your guess at that bill?....how about $36.00!!!! What if I told you the Bill comes to you without a breakdown? What if I told you there was no price for soft drinks on the menu and that any time you had a refill that you were charged a "non posted" price? I would not have been surprised to go into an establishment on the water and see a cheeseburger and a order of fries with a drink to be $12....but the deceptive practices are not appreciated in my circle of friends! The place had ONLY a few people there on a Saturday night and I know why! I won't be back!!! We ask the waitress to explain how the bill for 2 meals cost $36 and she just stated that the burger was $3.89 (LESS THAN WE READ IN THE MENU!!) the onion rings is a side order ( Does not tell us how much) and an order of Fish and chips, you got a beer and the kid had a drink plus you pay for the refill (never said that before)..... The other parties that were with us did not get beer and there bills for two burgers and a soft drink were $24. My group said they didn't mind the total price for their meals if it was listed that way in the menu....BUT two burgers at $4.89, fries and a coke should have never been $24.00!! THIS RAFT HAS SUNK!!!!!! Hopefully who ever is managing this place, gets educated with the current restaurant billing procedures and attempt some "best practices"! My mom and i dropped in after driving around looking for a place to have dinner. We both had the fish and chips and were very impressed. My mom never seems to finish her dinner lately, due to her ulcer. But niether one of us had any left overs. While enjoying our meal we were also trying to figure out the unique flavor. There was somethung slightly dif with both the fish and the tarter sauce. A good different. we wont be jst driving by the raft like we have so many other times before. Been going here since a teenager in the late 70's. Possibly the best burger I have had anywhere. Consistently fresh, handmade (no frozen patties here) soft bun and more than your monies worth. Cozy, casual rustic "up north" vibe. It's a neighborhood tradition that has stood the test of time. Order the raft burger and fries, deep fried mushrooms or onion rings for a "treat" side. While the food isn't completely awful, the staff's attitudes are. They're rude and can't seem to get a carry out order right to save their lives. When I mentioned the order was wrong, they argued with me and said burgers come standard with cheese. Hmm. Any other restaurant offers both burgers and cheeseburgers. Ate at the Raft last night, was a last minute choice after coming out of the water. Took forever, for starters and the wait was not worth it. The fries tasted like oil/grease they were cooked in, which was their only taste. The burger was smaller then the bun and confused on why the menu says "famous raft burgers", how? It was more "eh". My drink came with the straw already inside, which I thought was odd. My date ordered a beer, the waitress brought him another one out and she actually dumped the very tiny, less then a drink, of old beer into his new one in front of us... it was so bizarre. I've lived in Algonac for a large portion of my life but never ate at the raft. Both my husband and I got the Bacon cheeseburgers deluxe style when we were there. All I can say is, "Simply Delicious." Everyone seems to know everyone and it's has a casual, friendly atmosphere. I get the impression that it's more a restaurant then a bar. The whole place only seats 58 people so it's not large by any means. The only downside to eating here is that the menu is very limited to burgers and fried appetizers, and could border on the more expensive side for a burger, but I personally thought it was worth it. read more

Over the 4th of July weekend, we stopped at the Raft for some dinner. We waited 15 min to get our order taken. We waited about 1.5 hours for our food after we ordered. Our food was cold we served to us. One of our sandwiches had a napkin in the center of it, GROSS! and my son and I got food poisoning, he was vomiting most of the night. I was sick for days.. The Raft is a small nautical themed restaurant. I've been going here for years and their burgers rock! This place gets busy for lunch on a great afternoon, and the waitstaff is always friendly. You can sit outside if you'd like, but it's not much of a outdoor patio. Overall, take the trip, it's worth it! read more

I wish I could review The Raft. The place was not busy (on the outside anyways) and my wife and I ordered 2 burgers and an order of fries. After an hour wait we asked about our order and our waitress told us our food was not on the grill yet. Don't understand how it could take over an hour for 2 burgers and an order of fries. We've been coming here for many years. We used to like it a lot. I suspect it is under new management because is has really gone down hill. 2014 /. 2015 have been terrible. The service staff is always short handed. We waited 45 minutes for our food at our most recent visit. And the food is no where near as good as it used to be. Bummer because I've always wanted to try this restaurant out but for a non-meat eater, your few options are mostly an appetizer side. I was so excited to go with family and ended up eating fries, which weren't bad, but everyone was munching on their burgers and I surmised that they'd have a veggie option.
