This little sports grill doesn't look like much from the outside, but the portions were large and the food was very tasty. I got the perch dinner 1/2 pound and it was large enough to bring home half as leftovers. I had the choice of soup, salad or coleslaw. I got the salad which was probably a mistake. The salad was lettuce, some of which was brown, with a couple cherry tomatoes and a few slices of onions. I asked if they had balsamic vinaigrette dressing and the waitress brought me vinegar for dressing. Oh well. Then I had the choice of fries, mashed or redskin potatoes. I got the redskin and they were pretty good. My friend got the black and blue burger which comes with potato chips but he upgraded to fries. He really enjoyed his burger. If I was in the mood for perch again I would go and eat there again. read more

Off the Hook looks like a bar from the outside, but when you get inside... Yep, it's still a bar. But, it was immediately obvious that this is a place where locals come to unwind. For a small place, there's a good selection of drinks. But, we were hungry, and we definitely came to the right place. I ordered the Fair Haven Po Boy, which was billed as a beef brisket, but seems a lot more like a roast beef sandwich. Fortunately, it was good, and there was a lot of of it. The onion rings were robustly battered, and cooked properly so there was a nice crunch to every bite. Looks rough from the outside. Dirt parking lot filled with pick-up trucks. Crusty building. Confusing entrance. Inside is dark with small touches of nautical theme. It's pretty clear booze is king here. Locals, fishermen, contractors, all slamming them down. Hoots and hollers abound. Half the place was stone drunk. I don't recommend having babies baptism party here. Average bar food. I guess food quality depends on the cook-of-the-week. I wasn't impressed by the salads or hamburgers. The nachos sucked. I was slightly impressed by the Long Island ice tea brewed in small ice-filled plastic pitchers. It was more melting ice than booze but the taste was a smooth. Cute little bar in an area of Michigan I love. I drove an hour to check this place out. Went for the full pound yellow perch dinner. Can get fried or sautéed. I got 1/2 and 1/2, which I was glad the cook accommodated. The fried perch was good, lightly breaded... sautéed was good as well, a little burnt taste though, not the fish itself, that was cooked perfectly, whatever it was sautéed in, whether it was butter or shortening, was giving off a burnt aftertaste...will stick with fried next time. Good portion size for the money. Clam chowder was really good! ... hubs and MIL had 21 shrimp basket, that was not bad...good value... our waitress was great.. atmosphere was nice.. next time I'll try the walleye.. overall, this place was worth the drive. read more

Placed an order for carryout around 5pm. Ordered southwest burger deluxe well done, 3 sliders with American cheese w/fries, a not so slim Jim with onion rings, a cup of french onion soup, and off the hook nachos supreme. My daughter's fries were forgotten and so was the French onion soup. The server I dealt with was Kayla H according to the receipt. Don't know who cooked. The southwest burger was supposed to be well done, as you'll see in the photos, well done means red inside I guess... Complete fail. The only way I talked my wife into trying this place was the soup that they forgot. Picking the food up was a trip as well, figuratively and literally. 15 miles round trip. And when I got there, the bartender barely even paid any attention to me as she was completely caught up in conversation with a group of 5-6 patrons who were talking about throwing people out of there chairs and fighting in the parking lot. Glad I didn't bring my daughter with me. The language was pretty foul. Didn't know people were getting that drunk at dinner. Sign on door says please wear a mask if physically possible, yet not a single person other than myself had one. Including employees. I called to see if they could just refund the money for the forgotten items and they told me no. That they would give me comp drinks on my next visit... I've lived in the area for ten years and this is my second time visiting this establishment. The first time being completely honest, was wonderful. Excellent food, prices were very good. Service was awesome. Candace was our waitress and she was very kind and friendly, and very fast with our orders. She gave us her best dishes she enjoyed as options which my wife took advantage of their on site smoked brisket. I had the 21 piece shrimp with very good fries and coleslaw. Had a couple ice cold beers and it was a nice cozy place. Super quiet, but they had tvs. It was nice to have a good conversation at dinner. The place was very clean and kid friendly as well. Still going there regularly since last year-it's still great-had the mahi coconut wrap special-only 6.99 comes with seasoned fries. The coconut on the mahi mahi wasn't very noticeable but overall it's the best bar food I've had in forever BECAUSE it was really Asian tasting, fresh and my kind of flavors. They have several really good sauces to choose from. Paul's chicken wings best around anywhere. My friend had the Club Wrap Special which she said was excellent. Lots of meat, fresh, you get your money's worth. Go on Monday or Wednesday if you want half off tall Buds. Also they make excellent mixed drinks, her Fuzzy Navel was YUM. :) read more

I have eaten here several times and have always been pleased. The prime rib special was the best I've had in years and my husband loved his shrimp dinner. Their cod is very good and unless you are a big eater the one piece dinner is enough for most folks. We have found the portions enough to always take home leftovers.
