Dark, Dank, Sketchy, and F***ing Amazing! If you prefer dark hole in the wall places filled with sketchy people, where you may get shanked or laid in the bathroom, this is your place! I went on a Friday which apparently is free fried chicken day. Umm what? AMAZING. I'm pretty sure several people had touched the chicken I ended up eating, but it added to the allure of this strange and wonderful bar. I will highly recommend to anyone going to Savannah. If you just want to get out of the house, have a few drinks, and sing your heart out, this is DEFINITELY the place you need to be. I visited this place and the atmosphere was everything! Drunks coming up to you making conversations and by the end of the night, they're your best friends! I sung karaoke SO many times, the only thing The Rail Pub owe me is another voice box. The drinks grew some hair on my chest and gave me all of the liquid courage I needed to get on stage and perform like my name was Tina Turner. I think I peaked singing kareoke at this bar. We were visiting Savannah and we just happened to walk into this place on a Saturday night. It is pretty small inside, but I never felt that it was too crowded. We saw that they were doing kareoke and in my previous experience, I have never seen a crowd as excited for kareoke as I did here. Everyone was singing along to the music and it was just a great time. We got up and sang "Lips of an Angel," which is a throwback to the early 2000s, and everyone loved it. This was one of my definite favorites in Savannah. It is a chill dive bar with good music, super cheap drinks, and a very local feel. The atmosphere is casual and the bartenders are attentive. Hands down my favorite spot in Savannah for day drinking or fun late night. Really cool, funny stuff all around on the walls and great theme-night ideas. Plus there are plenty of places to hang out both inside and out, always something to do whether darts, cornhole, a band, karaoke or just playing the super awesome juke box. If you are looking for a dive bar... This is it. First the positives. They had a decent happy hour with $3 drafts (though the draft beer was limited). They had a great outdoor space that had a stage, corn hole and a lot of outdoor seating. It seems like it would be a lot of fun at nighttime. When we were here it was dead (only one other couple). They did play some good music and the location is great. It is right off of the city market in downtown Savannah. Now the negatives. When I say this was a dive, I mean it. The first thing I saw when I walked in the door was a giant cockroach. Ok I guess we're in the south and I'll let that slide. I will not let the black hair in the beer slide though. Real peanuts IN the shell, and then real peanuts OUT of the shell, and the shell all over da floor. crunch crunch. I made so much mess I was gonna ask if they'd hire me as a cleaner. The brews come in one size. 40 ounce. That's a little over 1.1 litres for my metric system buddies. Knocking them back like they are schooners meant that I was on the canvas pretty quickly. I dunno how I made it back to my hotel, but somehow I did and somehow I didn't throw up, and somehow I got on the bus for the roadtrip out of Savannah the next morning. LOVE the Rail Pub. I hate elbowing people and waiting 20 years to get a drink. I don't have to worry about either of those annoyances here, for the most part. The crowd seems to be pretty unpretentious Free peanuts are also a bonus, and my husband likes to spend some time on the dartboard there. This is one of those rare things where I would give this place zero stars if i could, I downloaded yelp just to tell people how crappy this place is. I'll start off by saying the drinks they aren't that bad or over priced. But the bartenders are extremely inattentive to the customers and are ruder than they are inattentive. They took a drink order of mine and messed up the card payment, then after pointing it out they took almost 10 other people's orders for me to ask them to run the card again, and by then it had been 25 minutes. So after some of the most unprofessional bartending I've ever seen, they tell me they no longer have my card. I tell them to find it or else be charged with stealing it. They ignore me for another 10 minutes, then come back and tell me they can't find it, and that since they can't find it they obviously gave it back, they didn't even man up on the fact they lost my card or didn't care enough to admit they gave my card to someone else out of sheer negligence. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR, THEY WILL LOSE/STEAL YOUR CARD AND NOT ADMIT TO IT. read more

So a friend and I spent a week around NYE in Sanannah, right up the street from The Rail. While in town the weather went from beautiful to freaking Freezing. and after a few days in town we basically turned to Whiskey. and Darts. and Peanuts. thus you have our adventures at The Rail. My wife was groped at this bar and their response really ruined an evening. The bouncer told us that if my wife pointed out who had done it, that person would be asked to leave. After she pointed that person out, the bar manager decided it was a he-said she-said, and nothing could be done besides comp our $12 tab. Later on, while still trying to get this man removed, my wife was asked a series of ridiculous and offensive questions like how exactly her butt was touched, whether it was the only time it had happened that night, et cetera. After all of this, they told us, seemingly very seriously, that they were going to examine the security tape after closing and get back to us the next day on what they saw (who had done it, whether anyone would be banned going forward). I really like the spot and it is perfect if you're looking for a no-frills and not at all pretentious dive bar. They played a lot of 90s rock and had a nice small back outdoor space. The bartender was really laid-back and friendly. Beer was cheap. I was hear on Monday night so I'm sure that it was pretty quiet but it still felt like a nice place to hang out. The Rail Pub is where the locals hang out in Savannah from what I saw. It is a very hip, dive bar that serves up great drinks at incredible prices. Happy hour $1 double ups are nice, and $5 40's all the time are cool especially since Savannah has open container so all bars will gladly give you a sixteen ounce plastic cup to pour your beer into to go. Kathy was my bartender both times I went to the Rail, and she was extremely friendly, and made great drinks (solid bloody mary). The Rail is my kind of place, nothing pretentious or fancy just a cozy mecca to drink all of your worries away. I would highly recommend a midday visit to the Rail or a drink before or after dinner. The building itself is incredibly old, and rumor has it that it used to be a brothel in the nineteenth century. The rail is an all around great bar, it is centrally located in the historic district near City Market, and is next to the Congress Street Social Club, which is another very cool bar, and grill. read more
