This is a great small and local spot we happened to stumble upon. The atmosphere was great and there was a jukebox that had a lot of great classic music. The drinks were also good and very affordable. This is a cash only bar which is rare nowadays but it does exist. The service was excellent and the people were really nice. We were on a walking tour when we stopped at this spot. I had heard about this bar back when I was initially researching bars and restaurants in downtown Savannah. But I had never made it to Pinkies until this most recent visit, which came with the department from my company. Our guide gave us some history of the bar, including how former President Jimmy Carter paid a visit or two during his presidential campaign in the 70s. When you walk inside, there is a definite local and historic vibe to the bar. Dark green booths with a U-shaped bar as you walk inside. Framed photos cover the walls of locals from years past, including President Carter's. Drink-wise, they have some excellent cocktail specials. I ordered a Negroni, which I could take out with me since Savannah has an open-container ordinance where you can walk around town with alcoholic beverages so long as they are in a plastic cup. Very cool spot. But do note, it's cash only so make sure you bring cash. They do have an ATM on-site but you would do better going to the bank to do a withdrawal if you don't want to deal with additional ATM fees. read more

My husband has been telling me about this place for 20 years, where he and friends used to go "back in the day" (35-40 years ago) and so I told him I absolutely had to at least stop in to see it. Stop in we did, and we ended up staying for two and a half fun hours! It was loud, it was kind of crazy, and in spite of the somewhat unpleasant woman at the end of the bar saving seats with her purse and shopping bag, everyone was smiling, friendly, and having a roaring good time. The place is small with limited seating and it stayed full the whole time we were there with people coming and going, and many who didn't have seats content to stand enjoy the drinks and fun atmosphere. The PBRs are just $3 and I couldn't possibly keep count on how many were opened and downed while we were there! Of course, we also did shots and more. The music was loud, but good, and the bartenders treated everyone like old friends, whether locals or tourists. This isn't a place for shy people... just go in with a smile and act like you belong there and everyone (except that one lady at the end of the bar, ha-ha!) will treat you like an old friend. We met locals, a couple from New York, two military guys from Scotland, a bunch of guys in tuxes who were part of a wedding party (including the father of the bride!), and more locals. Pinkie Masters is my favorite watering hole in Savannah. Unpretentious, it is what it is and it's what the perfect neighborhood bar should be. Lots of seats at the bar, jukebox, plenty of memorabilia on the walls and the coldest beer you can find. There's about 8 beers on draft, a limited sampling of mixed drinks and shots but Pabst Blue Ribbon is king here. You can get it on draft or a tall boy for $3. I looooove an old man bar. I can't stand an over crowded bridge and tunnel weekend madness. Popping into this bar at 4pm in the afternoon on a blazing hot day was the best idea on my first Savannah day. I needed beer and I needed it to be as cold as ice. (singing Foreigner) And then I saw it "the Original Pinkie Masters"! Oh hell yeah! Frosted mugs. You heard me right. Cold beer kept extra chilled with a frosty mug. They are doing old man bar right. Then there was an older clientele all piled up at the horseshoe bar. And they were the sweetest older guys. Buddy was super chatty with me and told me about how he used to come here for drinks in the eighties. It's new owners but the feel is still the same and there are still some original details and I'm not talking the clientele. The frosted PBR's are only $3. This place loves PBR even the merch is PBR design spin off. And I liked that the owner was nice enough to charge my phone for me too. I had great chats with Buddy and I also met Jahla here. She was obsessed with the bourbon lemonade frozen drink. You could even take the drink to go. Yup. Open container laws in Savannah are crazy!?! But hey, I guess it's a way of life in Savannah. I don't normally write one star reviews, but Pinkie's was not a pleasant experience. This local bar was recommended to us by a couple who lived next door to the Airbnb we stayed at. They told us it was a nice place that locals like to go to. My group and I decided "Hey why not, let's give it a shot." Little did we know that Asians were not welcome in that bar. As soon as we walked in, a customer turned to us and said "Seems like some of us don't belong here." I just ignored it, but my brother decided to stay outside because the vibe was off. I grab a booth while 2 of my friends go get drinks (they were denied service because the bar was too busy). We then decide to just use the restroom and then leave, but while in line for the restroom another local decided to cut us off and just push their way infront of us in line. I've been to many places and travelled to many countries, but I didn't think that I'd feel the most unwelcome in my own country. This is the kind of bar I look for, when traveling. Some would call it a dive bar, because the drinks are cheap. I put it under the category of a "local" bar. It is as unpretentious as you can get.
