Love a dive bar. This place has a cool history too.

Always enjoy a local dive bar. This one has a rich history dating all the way back to the early 1900's. Loved that they had all the old school pics on the wall. The wife was a little worried about entering since there were a fee rough looking people outside near bikes. I told her not to judge a book bybits cover. We went in and had a great time. Everyone was super cool, nice, and inviting.

I wasn't quite ready to go home yet after everyone went their own separate ways, and I'd never been here before, so why not since I was in the area? The name itself made it memorable for me, but rarely did I visit this far-end part of Honolulu Ave. Did I manage to stay afloat at this Irish pub, or did my time at Gilligan's get washed away!? PURCHASE(S) Popcorn (COMP): Freshly-popped and salty, this paired well with my beer and filled my belly! This and peanuts need to return to all bars and breweries! This practice ceased after the pandemic. Modelo Especial Mexican Lager Beer 4.5% ABV 16floz Draft ($6.00): Amber color, light malty aroma, light body, malty watery flavor, smooth finish, and malty sweet aftertaste. A standard Mexican cerveza! SERVICE Graciously greeted by an older gentleman and woman behind the bar, I lumbered to an empty stool at the end of the bar, ordered an easy draft beer which came quickly, and grabbed a bowl of fresh popcorn from behind me. Because I was there just to check things out and ended up having only one drink, there was no other need for their services. Everything was straightforward and just what I needed - thank you! PARKING (FREE): I simply walked over from the nearby El Sol Family Restaurant where I earlier parked. Otherwise, I didn't recall a separate lot for them, but there were many spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A casual divey simple bar that seemingly catered to the locals in the neighborhood with a lone pool table, a dart board, several tall tables, and a basic bar on the inside, while an open back patio with communal tables and lawn ornaments was nice for some fresh air. I saw two dogs inside, which was a nice thing. The only natural light entered through the front or back doors whenever they were open (obviously, the back patio was all natural lighting with some hung string electric lights) while dim electric ceiling lights covered the rest inside. I believed there were a couple of muted TVs while customers fed the jukebox for some music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was always down for a dive bar, and Gilligan's Irish Pub nearly fit the bill. I was fine with the no-frills aspect, but outside of the Guinness on tap and signage, it didn't feel quite like other Irish pubs I've been to; rather, just a regular watering hole where the regulars came in after work, shot the shit, didn't care too much of what they were drinking, and possibly husbands hid here from their wives. There wasn't a kitchen, so outside food was allowed, but I understood they sometimes had food trucks. Additionally, I wasn't sure whether or not they had a happy hour. The prices were affordable, the liquor selection was decent, and the service was easy. Plus, I preferred to support small mom & pop businesses whenever possible. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $6.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

It's smaller than I expected with more outdoor seating than indoor, so be aware during summer time and I'd recommend mosquito repellent! We did not make a reservation (I do recommend if you want indoor seating on busy nights) but we came at 4 pm and got a table that was reserved at 9 pm so we got to sit until we left that table at ~8:30 pm. We loved the indoor tiki decor and thought the whole vibe of the place was so cute and charming and we did appreciate some of the other customers who dressed up in Tiki style clothing as well. We did get dropped off/picked up but there's theoretical street parking out front for your DD (drink responsibly!!). They had a summer drinks special menu and we got the TBD and the Pure Imagination, I preferred the pure imagination. But our absolute favorite drink was the Nutty Chi Chi, a vodka blend on a classic Piña Colada! They don't serve food themselves but there is a taco stand out back after ~6pm that takes cash + card (card fee!) and will drop off food to your table. Such a fun night and looking forward to coming around again!

Personally, I think this is one of the best happy hour bars around. Inside, it has a steampunk-y sensibility with rich, dark wood tones & comfy booths. Outside, there's a patio along Honolulu Avenue that's just the spot for people watching. HAPPY HOUR MENU :: - The wings are great. They're perfectly saucy, served with blue cheese or ranch. Pairs well with their Happy Hour Prickly Pear Cider (in a can for $5). - Also, there's Habiscus Cider on draft, which is also sweet and more soda pop-like. It's not on Happy Hour. $9 for a tall glass. - Potato Skins are stacked with toppings and super cheesy. We tried their house Ranch and asked for a side of Bleu Cheese. OTHER NOTABLE FAVES :: - $15 gets you 2 tacos with a side of chips. - Meatloaf Mondays - get a proper meal that sticks to your ribs + a pint for $20. - No wait for a booth. Despite being so close to a seafood restaurant, I never expected one of my favorite shrimp dishes to come from here. I'm glad I took the chance. The shrimp were tender and full of garlic flavor, and the creamy white wine sauce was rich without being too heavy. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, and the fresh tomatoes, basil, and Parmesan added just the right balance. The warm French bread was perfect for soaking up every bit of the sauce. This dish completely exceeded my expectations and has earned a permanent spot on my list of favorites. Basin 141 continues to impress with both its consistency and its willingness to surprise.
