I give three stars for the service and ambience and one for the food. We enjoyed meeting a charming bartender who taught me about 0.0 Guinness. It was delicious and so true to the taste of the alcoholic beverage. The food was pub food but prepared inappropriately. In an English style pub the sausages should not be tossed into the deep fryer then served on mash with a load of lumpy onion gravy. I wasn't impressed. The place is cute and cozy with a neighborhood feel. Go and drink and have the deep fried chicken wings that were juicy. read more

Saturday, early evening visit. The place was busy. Very noisy. Under new management so we wanted to give it a try. Friendly server. Looked around the place to see what people were ordering and there were hardly any tables with food. Just drinks I checked online reviews for suggestions on what's good, sadly recent reviews weren't encouraging. We went with a pizza to share with a plan to order another for takeout. We had the Ultimate Raven. It didn't live up to its name. We decided to forgo the takeout order. Not likely to return. read more

We are locals and so when we heard the Raven Pub was re-opening, we were excited to try it. The last iteration of the Raven (under the previous ownership) was unfortunately known for it's so-so food. After dining at the new Raven, I can say that not much has changed. The menu is very limited (one page), prices are high ($22 for a burger and fries), and the prevailing theme is "Irish". They have specials like prime rib night and roasts and things like that. We had the burger and the brisket sandwich - the burger was disappointing, a big sloppy mess - as all the ingredients fell out from the overuse of mayonnaise. The brisket sandwich was fairly decent but nothing to write home about. The fries were as standard as they get. Overall, not much has changed. I'd come here to watch a sports game or have a few drinks with a friend, but only because it's the only game in town. The food is average and the prices aren't justified so we would not recommend coming here for a meal. UPDATE: We came here at 9pm on a Saturday night only to be told the kitchen had been closed so they weren't serving food, only drinks. Laughable. We won't be back. read more

It's under new management. So now It's pretty much an Irish pub, In no particular order, what I don't like about it., menu sucks. Food is overpriced. Selection of hard. Liquor sucks. The staff is trying ... which makes giving a bad review harder ... I am going to call it right now. This place will go bankrupt. It sucks badly. The old Raven was way better. This is just brutal. The Raven has new owners & I decided to do takeout on Monday Jan 16th 2023. I called in for 2 pieces fish & chips. Pick up was quick & friendly. Food was disgusting. The fish was 2 strips of poor quality fish possibly frozen for monthes. The chips I tried to save by refrying them. Didn't work. Coleslaw was so tasteless could have been 3 days old. All for the price of $27 plus 15% tip. I showed the photo of my meal to coworkers & friends & all of them laughed at the poor quality & said they would never visit this restaurant. I called & left a message but no one has got back to me. Guess they don't care. So sorry that the pub that was a local icon in Deep Cove is no more. read more

I was so excited to hear that the Raven pub was open again as I used to come all the time after kayaking. Now that I live in the neighbourhood, I've been waiting anxiously for the new owners to complete the renos and the place to reopen. So it saddens me to say I was supremely disappointed! Gone is the pizza that I was craving, replaced by a very limited menu of boring pub fare. I finally decided on the brisket sandwich. What an absolute waste of money!! It had maybe 4 thin slices of very dry brisket and the fries that came with it were undercooked and soggy. Sadly, It pains me to say I don't think I'll ever be back.... I guess I'll have to find another favourite apres kayaking spot in the area. read more

Takeout Pizza, 1st time was really good; 2nd time really not good. The wireless payment "Skip" tip button didn't work, and not that I'm cheap, but tipping for pizza pickup doesn't require one IMO. The last owners had a setup whereby you got the pizza on the upper level. But now you have to wade through pub patrons and wait for staff to ask what you want, then they have to run upstairs to find out if your pizza is ready, then back down the stairs to either say it's not ready or hand you the pizza. Then their payment system wants you to tip of minimum 15%. Did I mention you can't order on line like the last owners offered? New owners want you to call on the 'phone, taking up more valuable staff time that should be spent with existing customers. Very disappointing, I hope they improve and I wish them every success, but we are moving on, sorry. read more

Let's just say, service is minimal. Staff are friendly but no napkins, never came back after first drink, never checked in, $20 for six wings. We gave up and finally got up to find someone so we could pay our bill. This pub had a terrific menu and food prior to new ownership. read more

Dropped in here tonight as I am in town on business and wanted somewhere nice and easy for a steak and a beer. Came in around 6pm on a Friday night and the place was already really full and very vibrant. Really good eclectic mix of locals and visitors. The pub is really well set up. Casual and unpretentious with some communal tables and only a few TVs that are very small by modern bar standards. This pub isn't conformed to a corporate layout you see in many chain pubs these days that are so sterile and tiresome. The Raven is very refreshing and wraps it's arms around you as you walk in. A genuine neighborhood pub. Service is a bit iffy but I'm irish and the idea of finger-snappingly quick service in a pub has always seemed silly to me. Great range of local beer brews. I had the local lager which was excellent, served well and at the right temp. Only set back was the food. I had their local special pizza which was clumsily made, over-cheesed, under-seasoned and soggy in the middle. I could only eat about half. All in, the Raven is a good pub. I'll be back before I've finished my work here and recommend it if you like a casual, easy pub experience. Just avoid the pizza. read more

We are local and so badly want a pub that's good we can walk to with the family on the weekends but it's just so disappointing. We had such high hopes for the new owners but the food is awful. I just don't get how you mess up pub food. We were there on a Saturday night when a bunch of sports games are on and the lights were bright, no sound on the TVs and the music was so quiet and playing soft rock. 6pm and only 3 other tables. You would think they would get the hint that this is not working. We have high hopes they will improve but until then we will have to drive to a weekend spot. read more

Positively the worst Pizza I have ever had the misfortune to try to eat, just chunks of misilanious stuff from the kitchen tossed onto a flat bread no sauce (or very little) it was burned on the bottom and cold on the top, I sure the person who made the 26.00 12 inch (pizza) had never seen a pizza before. I cant I complained to the bartender and he gave me 15% off I left the 75% of the mess I was served on the table. I really was inexcusable and I should have refused to pay. I didn't though but I was so discussed with what I was served I called the next day to talk to the person who claimed to be the day manager who listened politely and then blew me off. The Raven used to have the best pizza in Vancouver now it has to be one of the worst. Another thing is the fireplace is gone and has been replaced with tables so much for the ambience. Had an early Sunday dinner and had the prime rib. While not on the regular menu, it is advertised in the (men's) washroom and on the website. The beef was surprisingly good along with the roasted veggies. Unfortunately, the roasted potatoes were overdone and the mashed potatoes were close to tasteless. Judging by other reviews, there seems to be a potatoe problem! In addition, the musician was entertaining but the volume reminded me of a college pub night. And while at times there were odorous whiffs, it is worth a repeat. read more

We recently went there with a group and it was so load that I could barely hear the person next to me talking. Between the loud music and the guy with the microphone blaring out trivia, conversation was next to impossible. Then the food came.... Organized a get together with a couple of buddies last night. The first little pub we went to was full and it was decided that we would try somewhere else. The Raven was suggested. It has been years since I was last there. It wasn't the busiest of nights for them, but it is just before spring break so I would imagine some people are heading out of town. Getting a table wasn't a problem. The service was fantastic. The young lady taking our drink orders was very attentive and friendly. I had their house Old Fashioned. It was really good!! An excellent band was playing. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the band but they were very good. I'll definitely frequent The Raven more often. Everything we've ever ordered from here has been delicious. The Brussel sprouts are a must! We've tried to support this business during the shutdown and both the woman who takes the order and the man who delivers are very pleasant and accommodating. Great neighborhood pub! We stayed at an Air BNB right near here so after a night of exploring the city this was really the only option for food. Ordered a pizza and salad for pickup and it was ready shortly after I drove down to grab it. The salad was ok and the pizza was top notch! They use such fresh ingredients on their pizza making it such a tasty meal. Next day after some hiking we had to go back and check it out again! They have live music on the weekends, great draft beer, delicious pizza and so many good flavors of wings to try too! If you are in Deep Cove area you have to check out this pub and see what it's all about! read more

Stopped in for a light lunch to kill time while waiting for parking to open up in deep cove. Beer was OK but the service was slow, especially considering there was hardly anyone in the place. They did'nt have the advertised bangers and mash so we got an order of stuffed jalepenos and a smoked salmon kale salad. The jalepenos looked like bulk frozen things. The salad was literally $2 worth of boxed kale and a small chunk of salmon on top. Not good value in our joint opinions. Stop in for a beer but probably eat elsewhere. read more

Stay away, bad karma place. To support a local high school fundraiser, we bought a coupon for 2 for 1 Medium pizzas at the Raven. We usually order from somewhere else, but wanted to support the school and if the Pub was pitching in, then give them our business. Have not been going there recently as food and service has gone down hill a lot over past few years. Live in neighborhood and used be regulars. So, we call them up to order two medium pizzas and sure enough, first words out of the order takers mouth "Oh, you can't use that coupon". Sigh. Once again, a rip off. "Ok, why not?" "Oh, because the two mediums you ordered are too cheap, need to be a dollar more". (Don't get me started on whey the coupon was for mediums, but not the mediums we ordered). "How much are we under?" "A dollar" "No problem, just charge us an extra dollar, happy to pay" "Sorry, can't do that" Sigh. So we ordered from another location for a bunch of our friends coming over, and then told them all the story. So, Raven, for the price of a dollar, you lost our business (again), we are going to tell the school fundraisers too (so everyone hears), and we told all of our friends over for dinner. I got delivery, so I'm hoping the food in-pub is much better than when it's delivered to my home 5 km's away. The burger was pretty great, I wolfed it down in about 3 minutes. The fries were a bit soggy but that was to be expected. I got the Raven salad with $5 salmon fillet added on. The salad was pathetic - basically the same "variety salad" bag you can buy at the grocery store for $3. The salmon was disgusting - WE ARE IN VANCOUVER - there is NO reason to overcook a piece of salmon such that it could double as a hockey puck. I took less than one bite before just throwing it and the whole salad away. Worst $15 I ever spent on a freaking salad. Overall, I was very very disappointed. The fact that my bill was $35 for a burger, handful of fries and the most pathetic excuse for a salmon salad is shocking. Guess that's what I get for being lazy and not wanting to go out in the rain to get groceries. Lesson learned. read more

I recently got a message from the owner about a new chef (he's fancy, he used to work at places like Le Crocodile and Coast) taking over my beloved Raven so a group of us decided to check out the new menu (and make sure they hadn't messed with it too much). Plus, I just bought a daily coupon on Good News that was begging to be used (side note: the Raven used an excerpt from my original review on their coupon page. ha! Awesome). The new menu is pretty decent, there's a lot of new stuff and they've pared back the pizza menu (boo), it's definitely got more of a "gastro-pub" feel to it now. A couple friends got pizzas and I got to sample them so I can safely and with relief say that the pizza is still just as good as ever. Since I had the coupon I decided to order the lobster and crab gnocchi, which was really quite good. I don't think it was worth the $18.99 price tag but definitely tasty and I'm glad I tried it since without the coupon there's no way I would have ordered something that expensive at a pub (though I would have ALWAYS considered ordering it cause I'm a sucker for seafood pasta). I also had a little bite of the boyfriend's pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. Oh, and one of my friends tried to use the Yelp offer (free appetizer when you come in with a group blah blah) and the waitress had no idea what she was talking about, even after looking at the offer on her phone - I guess the owner hadn't let any of the staff know about it? The offer did get honoured but there was confusion about it. Hopefully they've worked out that little kink now. Also, they've added A LOT of tv's to the place, which is not an improvement, it's just distracting. I guess if you're there to watch a game of some sort it would be good but the number of tv's seemed like overkill to me. Overall it was still good and the beer list is still a-ok but I'm just a wee bit disappointed. Then again, maybe I'm just not a huge fan of change. But I'll always go back for the pizza! read more

Oh well. I'm just not excited about The Raven. A while back I heard that they had a new chef and there were more gluten free items on the menu. We arrived there today to find that the 'new' chef has also fled the coup and there have been further menu changes. I was hopeful when I saw a Pulled Pork item, but it is not gluten free, (BOOoo!) I had the Salmon on a salad and it was nice, and nabbed some fries off friend's plates and those were good. The burger looked pretty yummy though and WOW I don't know where they got such gorgeous buns. No, I don't mean the servers. ;} Anyways, I'm sure you'll like The Raven, but I guess I just don't. read more

So, I hadn't been to the Raven for at least a year. No particular reason, it had just not been convenient. Today after snowshoeing, 10 of us decided that we wanted pub food and off we went. I ordered the Raven Burger as did several of my companions. Our food arrived after what seemed like an overly long time considering the place was only half full. But hey I was enjoying my Back Hand of God so who cares. Anyhow after a few minutes one of my companions looks at me and asks, "Are you tasting any bacon?" Funny, I had been wondering myself where the bacon was. After all it is in the description along with mushrooms, grilled onions and aioli. Which were also somewhat lacking. Turns out a couple of others didn't have any bacon or mushrooms, or onions or aioli either. Well for $15 dollars I was left simply asking, "Where's the Bacon!?" On top of that the burger was just, meh. The bun was decent though. The saving grace was the fries. Crispy, hot and dusted with just enough salt and pepper. Not that everything was bad, they do have a nice selection of gluten-free beers, 3 to be exact, for those of you with wheat intolerances or that are Celiacs. They also have gluten free options on menu, though they are not mentioned explicitly. One of my friends who is gluten and dairy intolerant was able to choose from several items of the menu so he was quite happy. His steak looked quite good. Overall, the Raven is an ok pub though a bit on the dark and loud side. I will likely be back as it is close enough to Mt Seymour to go for a bite, but, dammit I want my bacon next time!! I wish I could give 2.5 stars as it wasn't Meh, but it also wasn't A-Ok. read more

Our friend took us to this pub yesterday afternoon and it was quite a treat. Thursday night is ladies night and half litre wine is under 10 bucks. The other specials were very affordable and the food was delicious. I have never had fresh from scratch pizza like that from a pub in my life. So tasty. Big screen for the hockey game and a comfy atmosphere added to my enjoyment of this establishment. Plenty of parking in the rear, live music, a beer and wine store upstairs, great menu, and they even have delivery for all of it. What a hidden gem. read more

The Raven is a great neighbourhood pub. I went with a few friends, and although the noise volume was a bit loud we were still able to have a conversation without actually yelling. Our server was awesome, attentive - and I loved the drink specials (hello crantini on special!) - although one drink was mis-served, lemon drop vs lemon rasberry drop... at least the all have alcohol! The piece d'resistance for me was I am a wheat intolerant (or biggoted against wheat as I like to say), and one of my friends a vegetarian. Mix that with two guys who just want burgers and beers. And just like gangbusters we were all able to order something we happily ate (although I did shoot daggers at my boyfriend over his burger, it looked fantastic and really made me want to eat one). All in all - I rate this 4 neighbours out of 5 for neighbourliness. read more
