Food was great. Service was wonderful. Our coffee cups were never empty. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The gentleman that brought out our breakfast was super kind and made us smile. We had a great breakfast here. Their home fries aren't deep fried but if you ask for extra crispy they put a nice sear that creates a crust with extra flavor on the potatoes. Pancakes were fluffy and cooked to perfection. French toast was delicious. Eggs cooked exactly how we ordered. Coffee was nice and strong and kept flowing. Atmosphere is nice. Very cozy and if there's not a large group it's on the quieter side. There was a big party of women that looked like a group of friends that got together for breakfast. They were so cute and fun to watch as they socialized. They brought a whole vibe to the restaurant. When they left it got really quiet with several tables of two eating. Decor is cozy, farmish with cute signs. I like it. There's booths, tables and barstool counters. I would go again and recommend this establishment to others.

Great homemade food in a relaxed diner-style atmosphere. You can sit at the counter or a table, and they have creative omelets to appeal to vegetarians or meat lovers. Yummy French toast or pancake options, we live the cooked apples or chocolate chip additions in ours. Fast, friendly service. Get there early on the weekends, great food at reasonable prices so they fill up fast. They also do catering, too.

A solid breakfast spot with a little flair but a couple minor issues. Came here on a whim, looking for a good French toast close by. This place came up as an option, looked like a decent menu so I made the trek. It's a fairly large building with a decent sized dining room. The waitress got me sit at the bar and got me coffee. The coffee was weak, but bottomless so you could drink your fill. Only cold handle a cup with all my tricks. Was thinking their blueberry French toast would be good. That's my typical breakfast though. Instead opted for their priestly, with bananas with bacon and peanut butter. Food came out promptly and I dug in. They did some things very well, and I appreciate that they do them. They used a ripe banana and they warmed them up. It's surprisingly rare, from the places I have been. The peanut butter was nice and runny, and the Caramel helped keep everything sweet without needing syrup. Which is good, since the syrup was watery and their hash browns were under seasoned. The waiter fixed the hash after I commented, and they were better after. Still needed ketchup, used a little too much oil. They go cheap on a few things, but the chefs working with what he's got and is doing a pretty good job with it. With a slightly better drip coffee and the option to buy real maple syrup from a local sugar shack would help immensely. Right now it's a good place for the area. Not worth a trek but good if you're in the area

Blueberry Boss French toast stuffed with blueberries and cream cheese topped with whipped cream and raspberry sauce

Hubs joined me again for breakfast at The Red Cabin. We were both debating on the French toast entrees so we decided to each get one so we could sample two. I ordered the Classic French toast (minus the powder sugar sprinkle) with a side of bacon. Three pieces of delicious French toast with just a sprinkle of cinnamon. I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish it! I like mine with just butter - no syrup. Bacon was cooked perfectly and was a good sized portion. The piece de resistance was the glorious Blueberry Boss French toast. OMG!!! Another work of art from Ricky's grill! Like I said previously, I am not one to have syrup with French toast or pancakes but THIS!! Imagine if you will.... two pieces of French toast stuffed with blueberries and cream cheese - oh, it is divine - topped with raspberry sauce & whipped cream. The filling is so creamy and surprisingly not overly sweet. It's just right! This tasted as wonderful as it looks! It is worth getting! As always, the service is excellent. Ricky makes sure the customers are happy with their food. Brittany took care of us today. Another successful culinary adventure at The Red Diner!

Very cute and clean place. Some unique breakfast options in the menu and excellent service. Our food was excellent to boot and everything was served hot and cooked fresh. Interestingly we've gotten bfast sandwiches to go from here for years but never ate in. Will be our "go to" breakfast spot now glad we decided to try it as we live nearby. Kudos to our server and staff!

This place was a cute new find for breakfast! Smaller on the inside than it would appear from the outside, but great service. We were seated right away and had very minimal waits for anything. The pancakes were excellent. Definitely will be back.

Perfectly fine quick breakfast spot…read more Came here on the fly, looking for new breakfast spots and found this one on my feed. The parking situation is a little weird, there's some spots in front or by the side, but they are not really marked well. But there's a lot of spaces for the actual dining space. The inside is simple but clean, lots of seats for the space and a reasonable display for their pastries and donuts. The menu is simple and the options are low. It's very much designed to be a quick breakfast spot. I opted for one of their donuts and a latte, with a French toast platter. Food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was okay. The donut was large, cakey but freshly made. The strawberry frosting was a little heavy on the extract which gave a chemically taste to the frosting, but it wasn't off putting just noticeable. The French toast was slightly undercooked, but I do enjoy custardity bites so it was good enough. The eggs were also underdone, but I just ignored those. The turkey bacon was crisp and the home fries were seasoned very well. Unlike other home fries I have had, these ones actually had flavor. As a breakfast spot, it does well enough for the local crowd. When done properly, the food put out at this location can be good if not great. I'm fairly confident if I made them aware of my issues, they would resolve them without fail. If you need a quick breakfast and happen to be in east hartford near the police station, his place works for that quick meal. It isn't fancy, but it's basic food done right.

The Cosmic Omelet is a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant that opened in Manchester,…read moreConnecticut in October 2003. It was founded by Tracy Devine. When she purchased the small restaurant space in Manchester, it was already an existing restaurant called "The Smoking Cafe". Just before the purchase, the Connecticut General Assembly had passed a smoking for restaurants, which was going to go into effect soon. Many of the regular customers were smokers, but Devine soon won them over with her menu of "out of this world" food. The new business was dubbed "The Cosmic Omelet" and by 2005, a beautiful cosmic-themed mural had been painted on the walls of the restaurant. Although the menu also features lunch items, it is the breakfast dishes that keep people coming back. Many of the dishes are named after and designed by staff or long standing customers. If you spot the word "cosmic" anywhere in the menu, it is code for "made with cream cheese". My family and I had brunch at the Cosmic Omelet over St. Patrick's Day weekend. I was first introduced to the place by one of my best friends who grew up in Manchester, and I've been coming back ever since. This was the first visit for my two sons. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but there's plenty to do to pass the time. If customers follow the "yellow brick road" painted on the floor, it will lead you to a small arcade as well as a funky art gallery space. We all had a fun time exploring until our table was ready. They had a lot of delicious St. Patrick's Day themed specials during our visit. I had the "Sheep Go To Heaven" (shepherd's pie omelet w/ ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes, cheddar & Guinness gravy), my wife had the "Fiesta Omelet" (sausage, onions, peppers, cheddar, side of salsa & sour cream), our sons shared the "Sweet Cream (Green) Pancakes", and we also ordered sides of "Hashbrowns" and "Corned Beef Hash" for the table. As usual, everything was fantastic! The omelets were chock full of delicious ingredients, the pancakes were perfectly fluffy, and the home fries were out of this world! We plan on returning to the Cosmic Omelet again and again!

The look of the place is still a mix of quirky diner and casual neighborhood spot, but over the years they have expanded quite a bit into neighboring spaces. It is noticeably larger than it used to be many years ago, but it still feels like the same locally-owned, friendly, affordable, quirky, casual, bustling place with fun decor that it has always been. The food is certainly also a big reason people keep coming back. If you have never been, you will quickly notice that some of the omelets are creative and a little unusual. A few include things like cream cheese, which might sound odd at first but often works surprisingly well. Of course they also have plenty of classic breakfast options if you want something more traditional. In general the food has been consistently good. The place can get busy, especially during peak breakfast hours, which says a lot about how popular it still is with regulars. Once you are seated though, the service tends to move along quickly and the staff are friendly in that slightly quirky way that fits the personality of the place. Overall Cosmic Omelet is still one of the better breakfast spots in the area. Good food, lots of personality, and clearly a place that has built a strong following over the years. Although I have moved much further away since my 2009 review, I will still stop in when I am back in the area.

The restaurant is spotless clean, the staff are prompt and friendly, and the food is always hot, fresh and delicious. The owner takes a great deal of pride in the food that he serves, striving to make sure you're happy and full. This morning I had the Biscuits & Gravy special, and it was amazing. I'm usually very hesitant to order Biscuits & Gravy out anywhere because I have pretty high standards for that dish. Many restaurants use subpar or canned ingredients and just fail miserably at their attempt to make it properly. Since I've always had good meals here, I figured I would try it. Not only was I not disappointed, but I was rather surprised at the deliciousness of it. There was not one single flavor that overwhelmed another, after I swallowed the first bite was when the flavor really hit home. This dish was so good that I had to ask the owner if he used fresh ingredients and was informed that Mike The Owner makes everything from scratch. I told him this dish needs to be on the menu as a regular breakfast choice. (I'll be looking for it) I know that Mike is a new owner of this restaurant, and I have to say that he's done an outstanding job of turning this place into the best breakfast spot in town. With a beautifully updated interior and excellent food, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed.

Greasy spoon diner still learning the ropes…read more Angry egg is back open, under new ownership and with a revamped decor. Staff was polite but green. Nice but not overly friendly. Owner was working hard, doing prep items while the rest of the staff remained idle. Asked my server what most people order, and was told either the breakfast platter or the cali sammich. Decided on the sandwich, to get a good sense of how they worked. Food came out after a short wait. Took pics and dug in. Egg was cooked fine, bread lightly toasted, avocado was on the bottom of the sandwich. Also sandwich was very much an omelette in between two pieces of bread. There was also omission of two ingredients (peppers and bacon), the onions were cooked not caramelized, and there was a lot of mozzarella for a cali themed breakfast dish. A lot of what was not great is easy to contribute to confusion. Home fries with a sandwich limits a dish to a dine-in experience which isn't ideal for the grab and go diner. Sandwich composition dictates flavor intensity on bite, and presentation matters more for dine in than to go. Missing ingredients, that's a slip of the kitchen and the servers. It's how the restaurant reacts and pivot that determines how they will fare. The owner was receptive of feedback, and talked to his staff on each issue brought up. It seems like the owner is heavily invested in the success of his spot but is not quite ready to hand reins over to his staff. There will need to be that transition, there's just too many hats to wear as an owner to handle the busy work as well. For those looking for a nice spot to have some eggs n bacon, this spot works. It's not glamorous eats, but it's functional and prepped well enough. I will have to try them again once they figure out their rhythm, but right now they are okay.
