We visited The Angry Egg on Friday, June 26th after it recently reopened under new management. The waitstaff seemed nervous and inexperienced, which is understandable with a newly reopened restaurant. Despite that, everyone was friendly and trying their best. The food, however, was absolutely delicious! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful and exceeded our expectations. The owner also stopped by our table to introduce himself and check on our meal. He came across as genuinely kind and passionate about creating a great dining experience. It's clear he cares about both the food and his customers. Greasy spoon diner still learning the ropes Angry egg is back open, under new ownership and with a revamped decor. Staff was polite but green. Nice but not overly friendly. Owner was working hard, doing prep items while the rest of the staff remained idle. Asked my server what most people order, and was told either the breakfast platter or the cali sammich. Decided on the sandwich, to get a good sense of how they worked. Food came out after a short wait. Took pics and dug in. Egg was cooked fine, bread lightly toasted, avocado was on the bottom of the sandwich. Also sandwich was very much an omelette in between two pieces of bread. There was also omission of two ingredients (peppers and bacon), the onions were cooked not caramelized, and there was a lot of mozzarella for a cali themed breakfast dish. A lot of what was not great is easy to contribute to confusion. Home fries with a sandwich limits a dish to a dine-in experience which isn't ideal for the grab and go diner. Sandwich composition dictates flavor intensity on bite, and presentation matters more for dine in than to go. Missing ingredients, that's a slip of the kitchen and the servers. It's how the restaurant reacts and pivot that determines how they will fare. The owner was receptive of feedback, and talked to his staff on each issue brought up. It seems like the owner is heavily invested in the success of his spot but is not quite ready to hand reins over to his staff. There will need to be that transition, there's just too many hats to wear as an owner to handle the busy work as well. For those looking for a nice spot to have some eggs n bacon, this spot works. It's not glamorous eats, but it's functional and prepped well enough. I will have to try them again once they figure out their rhythm, but right now they are okay. read more

Not a great experience - We came in to have brunch, and there were people waiting and a sign up sheet inside to join the wait list. We put in our name on the wait list and waited outside. During our time waiting (15 minutes), we watched 2 bigger groups of people go inside and be seated immediately. We went back inside to see if we could get a table after those parties went in before us, and all of the staff were huddled together chatting and didn't acknowledge us being at the door. We then crossed out our names from the list and walked over to a different breakfast place- disappointed with our experience here, seemed very disorganized. read more

I visited several months ago while traveling for work, and since I'm always on the hunt for a hot breakfast with good service, this spot stood out. I came here with a friend on a Friday around 11am. We were seated right away which was surprising since this place is pretty small. Our server was a delight! He was friendly and efficient. That makes such a difference when going out to eat. We ordered the egg nog coffee which we were told had no sweetener or alcohol but it had a nice smell of rum and tasted good. I ordered the Mediterranean scramble. It was absolutely delicious and they did not skimp on the Kalamata olives. The sweet potato cake on top gave a unique sweetness to this savory dish. We stayed until just before closing at 2pm talking and enjoying our coffee. All customers and staff seemed pleasant during our visit. Nobody angry here except that cute little egg on their logo! Isn't the Angry Egg's logo of an enraged egg menacingly wielding a spatula (as though it was a machete) one of the very coolest logos you've ever seen? Anyway, we had a FANTASTIC breakfast experience today. First of all, they had three different coffee choices -regular, dark or flavored, which today was butter pecan. Coffees are $2.75. We sat in one of their 8 or so booths, met our terrific server Janna, sipped our coffees and studied their enormous breakfast menu. Breakfast is served until the 2:00 closing and lunch is also served from 11 to closing. I ordered three poached eggs ($4.50) and a side of Angry Hash ($5.50). I couldn;t have been happier with my choice. The eggs were perfect and the hash was one of the most delicious versions I've ever had. It was loaded with peppers, onions, potatoes, jalapenos, and plenty of ham, sausage and kielbasa chunks. Janaasked if I wanted anything with my meal, and when I asked for hot sauce, she asked "What kind, we have four choices". I went with the Cholua which is awesome. My wife went to the pancake section and ordered a full stack. This was 4 pancakes for $9 as opposed to a short stack of 2 pancakes for $7. She added on chocolate chips for a measly $2 more. Now I can't tell you how freaking massive that full stack was. They covered the entire area of a full sized plate and seemed to be an inch and a half tall. Since the difference between a short and full stack is just $2, I have no earthly idea why anyone wouldn't splurge for the full, and take home half of the order like we did. Our magnificent breakfast was $28.45 after tax and before tip. We were far from Angry when we left, in fact we were totally satisfied. read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience at The Angry Egg in Manchester, CT. A 1 star rating is generous. From the moment we arrived, the process was cold and impersonal. They require you to sign in like you're at a DMV and then force you to wait in your car until they call you--never mind that the space itself feels like a chaotic fire hazard at this ridiculous hole in the wall of an establishment. The real issue? They gave away our table TWO MINUTES after calling to let us know it was ready. TWO MINUTES. No one ever mentioned that if you miss their call--even briefly--they immediately give away your spot. We missed a call at 12:01, walked in at 12:03, and found another couple already seated in the exact spot we could have taken when we first arrived. The worst part? That couple hadn't even signed in when we did. So essentially, they gave our table away to walk-ins instead of honoring the system they claim to have in place. There was a young server who clearly understood how messed up this was, but then an older lady--who might have been an owner--came in and blamed us for missing the call. Not to mention, she had literally just finished leaving the voicemail 20 seconds before we walked in. No remorse, no accountability, and absolutely no effort to make things right. Their only "solution" was offering us the same two cramped bar seats we had already declined when we arrived. Luckily, the universe had better plans for us. Just down the street at Café Aura, we were met with a clean and welcoming environment, the world's best pancakes, great drinks, fantastic service, and to top it off--the UConn game was on. Shoutout to The Angry Egg (or Angry Old Lady) for denying us at the door and showing us that the grass is definitely greener at Café Aura. The lack of communication, the impersonal and disorganized system, and the complete disregard for customer experience make The Angry Egg not worth the hassle. If you're looking for a frustrating and unwelcoming dining experience, this is the place for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and go where customers actually matter--Café Aura. read more

I've been here once and it was great! I'll update the review on a re-visit but here's the rundown: I got the Reuben omelette. Very nicely put together, all tasty and well-made components. Rye bread was not the "destroy the roof of your mouth" kind. Could've done with a little more Thousand Island dressing but what was there was house-made and good. Came with very good, crispy home fries. Balanced flavors, hearty portion, EXCELLENT job keeping it all from being too salty. My friend got the blueberry pancake special with a lemon curd and cheesecake spread - I sampled; it was fantastic. Again, well balanced and not too sweet. The coffee was good too - they had a few kinds on offer and I asked for dark roast, black. A lot of breakfast places overextract or burn their coffee, not The Angry Egg. It didn't taste super fresh - tasted more like a blend - so I'm not sure if the beans were anything special, but it was solid coffee. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. The ambiance is fine. Cute decor. Building materials are a little "Millennial gray" for my taste, and acoustically it's a bit loud - but it was a comfy sit-down spot. read more

When I went to order my meal I was then instructed I can not be in the restaurant and they will call me once my order is ready. Their deliverance with telling me was awful and they were very rude. Saturday morning after we had a day of recovery after the comedy of errors of travel to CT that we had Thursdays evening, we found this cute little spot that we just had to try. Luckily we timed it in such a way that we were able to be seated quickly in a booth just by the bar. The decor was so much fun, with the various signs that we related to, especially the hangry one :). After perusing the menu we finally decided on our bunch meals, an egg sandwich, the egg bowl, and the Mediterranean scramble. Plus a last minute order to try the breakfast corndog, because I was so curious. And it totally paid off, I should have ordered more for breakfast! The batter was the pancake or waffle batter that was fried perfectly and with the maple syrup made an amazing corndog! The egg bowl and Mediterranean scramble were both amazing. The restaurant is owned by Stephen and Liz, a seasoned restaurant couple with immense experience in the restaurant industry. The couple have experience working at Carbone and Caveys, an award-winning fine dining restaurant, that was eventually sold to UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma. I did come in hungry but walked out happy as we were greeted by friendly staff, with an efficient service and good food. The menu contains primarily break fast and lunch items with a blend of both sweet and savory. We skipped Angry Egg's go to dish, the Angry Egg Sammich and went with a waffle with berries for sweet and a Mediterranean scrambler with pesto for savory. The scrambled egg came with spinach, feta, onions, tomato, pesto, jalapeños topped with a sweet potato cake. I enjoyed the food, location and the staff, however I was torn on a rating between a 4 or a 5. I was thinking of a 4 star rating as I have had a better Veggie scrambler and waffle in 2 seperate restaurants but was thinking of a 5 for their friendly staff, service and price. But note most of the other restaurants do come with a toast and homefries on the side which made me go with the 4 for value. As the system doesn't let me use a decimal point. Really, really good! Went out of our way to try it, and had wonderful food, great service, and experienced such a friendly atmosphere. Cute stuff on walls, but the food is why you should stop in, from simple eggs to delicious waffles. We took a trip for the first time to The Angry Egg looking for a new breakfast spot to live and we found it! It's a small little place, and very cute. Nice menu and stuff for everyone to enjoy which is important for me as a vegetarian. I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich with a potato cake, while my friends had French toast and a chicken cutlet Benedict special. I always judge breakfast places by the coffee and they definitely had good coffee! The roast wasn't dark and it wasn't acidic or burned tasting. The waitress was very friendly, and the atmosphere was quiet. I loved the selection and the variety of breakfast offerings such as sweet potato kielbasa hash and fried plantains. I am super excited about their homefries. This is exactly the kind of homefries I want. Most breakfast places don't have them like this. They are rectangular/square shaped and crispy all the way around. Lightly seasoned and almost French fry like. Every was delicious. I loved the homemade whipped cream on the side of the of my waffles. Also our male server was so smart to put our toddlers kids meal in immediately, which if you have a small child you know time is of the essence when they have to sit and wait for food.
