I've had a some good meals and some not so good. Specials can be a little boring but usual daily menu is good.

Good service with a nice room. Tried several dishes. The wood fired pizza was not as expected, might need a hotter fire. Steak sandwich was nicely done. Bourbon chicken sandwich was not special and store bought chips take away from the look. Bruscetta with fig and brie was a hit. All in all well done. read more

The food was amazing!! First off, I'm in town for the week from Atlanta and didn't expect to find food this great in Oswego! The restaurant has a swanky and somewhat eclectic feel to it is when you walk through the door however the patrons are totally opposite of that lol. I had the Shrimp Scampi with Risotto. I must say the risotto was cooked perfectly!!! It was so thick and cheesy. I've only had risotto that perfect one other time in my life and I've tried a lot of risotto. It also had arugula, roasted onions and peppers that surprisingly added so much more flavor to the dish. I mean I seriously didn't expect it to be so good. I started with Lobster Arugula Bisque which was also creamy and delicious. I only have 3 more days in town and I'm thinking of going back tomorrow for the Pork Chop or Cornish Hen. This was my first time at Red Sun and I had just ate pizza the day before so we decided to order a regular entree. We both ordered the venison, wild boar and elk meatloaf and though the portion wasn't huge (expected) the meatloaf had great flavor and the veggies were cooked excellently. I have had awful experiences here. It sucks because the menu looks soooo good, but the service ruins it. The first time I went here, I thought I'd stop in quick for appetizers on my way to the grocery store. An hour later, still no food. When I asked to pay for my drink so that I could just leave, it took another 20 minutes before I could pay and finally leave. The "manager" yelled at me and told me that she warned me when I got there that they were "very busy" and that the food would take a while. 1) She most certainly did not. 2) Still though, an HOUR for apps? And 3) Maybe don't yell at your customer! You could try a 'Sorry, we'll do better next time.'!! Ugh. The second time I went there, (try everything twice!) I ordered something expressly without onion. It came out covered in scallions. When I told them that it would have to be remade, and that I couldn't eat it, I was yelled at for not telling them no scallions. For the record, scallions are onions and they weren't listed on the menu as an ingredient! When the remade app came out, there was a grain of uncooked rice, some random lint, and a bunch of black specs all over the food. It legitimately looked as if it had been rolled around on the floor. I paid for my beer, tipped the bartender, and have not been back since. Eff that place. read more

I actually dream about Red Sun when I am not in Oswego. This is one place that I miss the most about college. The restaurant's ambiance is great. Large bar and plenty of seating. The restaurant is literally connected to Port City. There is only one bathroom which is shared with the cafe which can be a bit of an annoyance. The kitchens are also back to back, you can see one from the other. The beer selection is great and they offer flights which is very cool. The pizzas here are amazing. They have a brick oven with a large variety of speciality pizzas or you can make your own. I am not a big wings person but the baked wings are probably the best I have ever had. The menu changes seasonally which is great. Overall one of the best if not THE best restaurant in the city of Oswego. read more

I've been to Oswego quite a few times as my daughter is attending college here but never tried this place. Now I'm kicking myself for not coming sooner. This time I came in the dead of winter so you know the town is kind of dead. But this place was an oasis in a winter wasteland. May have been one of the best meals I have ever had and I have eaten in 5 star restaurants that were not as good. I had their special soup which was a white bean with sausage, truffle oil and kale. If it sounds weird that's okay because it tasted great! Main course is on the winter menu which was a roast loin of pork on a sage risotto. Absolutely full of flavor and I cleaned the plate off. Then to top it all off the raspberry coconut cake, home made in their bakery. One note ; they do not have cocktails or spirits, but a fine selection of wines and beer on tap. read more

Food was very good but portions were extremely small. It was a little overpriced for the amount that you get. Service wasn't the best. Right off the bat the hostess was dismissive and didn't even acknowledge that we were standing there. Waiter didn't even offer us any other drinks besides water. We were there an hour and a half and he came to our table 3 times and not even to check on how the food was or give us our check. Oh and my food came out cold. Not sure if we will be back. read more

Wish I had room for dessert, but I've had them from Port City so I know they are fabulous! You will not be disappointed! I wanted to give this 3.5 stars but I couldn't, I rounded up because I think they have a good thing going here. My Meal Queso dip and Chips - 3stars - It was a little bland for my taste, would have like more spice, chips seemed to be whole grain tostidos, I would have preferred a better grade or chips or small soft corn/four tortilla. Polano Pizza - 4 stars - Pretty good, above average, actually I give 5 stars the day after -- left overs were awesome Pumkin Crème Brulee - 3.5 - had the potential to be a 5 but prepped failed, not enough sugar was melted on top, and it was too soft so you couldn't crack thru without the whole layer moving with it. The custard was great underneath. Bartender - 2 stars - Sorry to say because he was nice guy but he kept disappearing and we were there on lunch break. I also had to get my own plate and silverware at one point. Ambiance - 5 - for Oswego area this is definitely a cool place to hang, plus they have a café attached next door. Most other restaurants in the area serve old fashion fair and nothing attempting to be near gastropub type food. Great beer selection but I was not able to partake. read more

This is one of oswego's most amazing restaurants. The food is simply to die for, but the menu is seasonal. Thus, the menu you might see on Yelp may very well differ from what's actually available when you walk in. The service is pretty great as well. The waiters are very friendly. And the collective staff is attentive as well. One one occasion for example, the chef overcooked one side of our pork, and he/she asked the waiter to ask us about it. They ended up cooking us an entire new meal. The stretched bread is amazing. I get it every time we go. Would highly recommend this place. Oh, and every pizza option is amazing. But would particularly recommend the "double trouble." Without ordering drinks, we usually spend 40-60 dollars. tl;dr -- go to red sun! Truly an amazing place! read more

I happen to be a pizza snob and an owner of a pizzeria in buffalo. We really enjoyed this place. Everyone that worked there was great. It had an open kitchen which was highlighted by a true wood fire brick oven. The pizza was great and the food that was being prepared looked excellent. I'm going to enjoy the next 4 yrs in coming to visit my daughter at SUNY Oswego. This will be the stop on every visit to try there other food. read more

I used to be a very frequent diner to red sun when I lived in Oswego. There are still absolutely amazing drinks (red sangria was delish) and even better food. Two of us ordered pizzas at our table, one ordered tacos, and one ordered the Chilean sea bass. All equally amazing tasting. However, both at the bar and at the table we had subpar service at best. Not friendly, asking another server what time it was (like she was ready to leave), and just overall not personable. Would go back, but will probably order take out next time! read more

We stumbled upon this place today while heading over to the Man in the Moon candy shop to get some treats for the nephews. I confess to being drawn in by seeing that they had Stella Artois on tap and a wood-fired oven. I figured that was a good start to a pretty pleasant evening meal! We sat at the bar since they didn't have any tables for two available, which is fine with us. It seemed a nice french onion soup would be a happy companion to my glass of Stella, so I started with that. The soup was garnished with fresh rosemary which you don't often see, but was a nice, earthy surprise. Unfortunately, the soup was far too salty, and three bay leaves were served to me in the little crock of soup. But, I suppose I'd rather have a soup that is too salty than a soup that is too bland, and I was so pleased by the rosemary accompaniment that the saltiness and bay leaf errors were easy to forgive. With dinner they serve a focaccia with olive oil and herbs. The focaccia is light and pleasant if a bit on the anemic side, and overall a great improvement over what passes for bread in most local restaurants. We had two of the wood-fired pizzas for dinner. I had the "canard" which was a white pizza with duck, boursin cheese, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, and cranberries. My husband's pizza had a tomato-based sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, chorizo, and bacon. He LOVED his pizza, and couldn't say enough good things about it. My pizza was quite delicious as well. Another technical error reared its head when there was a bit of bone in my duck. Also, the roasted garlic is roasted basically into oblivion and is left with very little flavor. Why not roast it for less time and with a touch of honey? That would have been amazing. Even with the somewhat undesirable garlic, the pizza was still very good, with duck that was flavorful and moist. For dessert I had an almond panna cotta with raspberries. The dessert was DELICIOUS. That atmosphere is very pleasant and the seating, even at the bar, quite comfortable. Overall, we would go back if we weren't moving so far away, and were glad to have spent our last dinner out in Oswego (at least for a while) here. read more

The buffalo style wings were out if this world! The right heat and smoke, just amazing! The Ahi Tuna App was very tasty as well, melt in your mouth just kissed with a light sauce, perfection! The fire roasted pizza I chose was the Greek, and man am I glad I did!! Reminded me of my trip to Italy last April, so fresh and bright an outstanding entree! My daughter got the Mac n Chez and was happy, this was a Gouda and bacon pairing that was topped with some lovely sautéed sweet onions. Was delightful, full of great flavor! The Creme brûlée was good, sweet and smokey. All in all, the service was good, food was great, atmosphere was just what we were looking for tonight! Yow, just had their special tonight. Some kind of pork tenderloin topped with apple chutney on sweet potato mash with brussels sprouts. At first glance I thought the portion size might be too large for me to handle in one sitting but after I tasted it I couldn't stop. Tonight we went to The Red Sun Fire Roasting Co to celebrate my moms birthday. The space was cool and clean. Open kitchen, nice wood floors, spacious. The menu was great. Selections were excellent. At our table we had, duck, shrimp ceviche, pasta, chicken with braised pairs, steak, tuna sashimi, steak tip sandwich, and 2 kid meals. All delish! The only thing ordered for dinner that was flavorless was the fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes and the breeding were just... eh. The house Cabernet was excellent. For dessert we tried the chocolate cake, berry crumble, and baklava. The cake was the winner. The crumble was on the sour side, but the berries are not in season so that may be why. The baklava was well flavored but a little dry. The reason for the rating; the server was not entirely rude but not friendly in any way. Even without smiling or eye contact we expected to be addressed somewhat pleasantly. She delivered almost every meal to the wrong person. When she took our order for dessert, instead of asking each person what they would like she took the first order then loudly asked the whole table, "how many of those?" Delivered the 2 coffees ordered to the wrong person and the wrong side of the table. I am fine with passing things but we were not at my kitchen table, and she had no regard for the people at our table or politeness. This was a $300 table and I have had better service at Applebee's. The customers deserve better. Whatever was eating at this waitress was not a good reflection of this place. We will try it again but not with this waitress. read more

Atmosphere isn't the greatest, it has an almost romantic vibe in terms of lighting and decor but they were blasting club music which was a really strange combination. Service was slow (over an hour wait for dinner, 30 minutes just to get appetizers and no drink refills while waiting) but the food was amazing - enough to *almost make up for the wait. Have only been here once. I ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza and a few drinks. The service was excellent and the pizza was a great compliment as well. We really enjoyed the Red Sun Fire Roasting Co, which was recommended by a friend who lives locally. We were there for lunch, and we each had a salad (the fabulous arugula salad - the small size was great and very tasty) and soup (chili for my husband and pumpkin bisque for me). The soups were especially good! The bisque was sweet and the chili was bursting with flavor and sometimes a really spicy bite!
