A hidden gem inside the Beal House Hotel. The atmosphere is very minimalist and has a beachy vibe with an outdoor area to sit and enjoy the sea breeze. We went in a group of 7 people for brunch. The coffee served there is provided by Starbucks, so nothing special to say about the drinks. Our dishes were: - Skirt steak hash $18 (delicious, everything on this plate was good but the eggs were perfect) - Angus burger $16 (just a burger like any other) - Western Omelet $16 (tasty and simple) - Floribama Benedict $18 (tasty and well-portioned). - Beignets $9 (5 pieces and honestly you can't call these beignets, the dough is super heavy and greasy, more like a cheap donut) Our service in general was good, one of the waitresses was nicer than the other. I was excited to try this place since it was a beautiful day in Fort Walton and the restaurant is practically on the beach. I was greeted with a smile and promptly sat on the patio. My server was friendly and knowledgeable with the menu. She made several suggestions that were fantastic. The Bam Bam shrimp appetizer was really good and the fish tacos hit the spot. Where things got disappointing for me, is how long in between I saw her. From the time I finished eating to her checking in was over 20 minutes. Okaloosa Island dining at its finest. We were staying on Okaloosa Island and looking for a restaurant that was in walking distance. After a quick Yelp search, we learned about The Remedy. It can be tricky to find but is located on the bottom floor of the Beal House. They have outside seating with views of the dunes. It was drizzling the day we went so we decided to sit inside. I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. They were good. They came with French fries, but I wish there were more side options. The service was great and I loved the reggae music that they were playing. Found this place on Yelp and drove over from our hotel to try the fish tacos for lunch. We got there around 1pm only to find out they don't serve lunch until 2pm. What?!? Who does that! I even told the waitress that we came there just for the tacos and she said sorry only breakfast until 2pm. Crazy thing I noticed that the Daily Catch Sandwich had all of the same ingredients of the tacos minus the salsa and substituting the tortillas with a bun. When waitress came back to table, I asked if I could just order that and substitute the tortillas. Seems like this is something that should've been offered from the get go. Once she got approval from the kitchen, that's what I ordered. My mom got the chicken sandwich. We both enjoyed our meal and would go back again mindful that lunch doesn't start till 2pm. Cute little hole in the wall restaurant decorated with beach colors. Multiple TV screens blast the day's football games. Would've been nice if the volume would've been a little lower on those since the loud broadcast overtook the small dining space. Paid parking is required to eat here since it's located at a hotel. Down the street (or beach) from our hotel, made this an easy choice for us to visit. We sat outside, enjoying the breeze on this balmy November afternoon. The staff was very attentive to us, getting and bring our drink order while we perused the menu. We opted to split the grouper sandwich as we only needed something to hold us over until dinner, and who wants to overeat when beach time was up next. My wife enjoyed a glass of rosé and I had a Hendricks and tonic. Thank you for having tonic that was not flat. The sandwich was very good, cooked perfectly and a large portion of fish. Most sandwiches i have had in the past load up on the toppings to disguise the smaller portion of the protein, not here though. The french fries were plentiful and cooked the way we like them. Having an upscale restaurant in the Florida panhandle is not an easy feat. The reason is quite simple: people are simply not used to upscale dining. It's not a bad thing either. The Remedy is the primary restaurant of freshly opened Beal House hotel, reinventing the budget property that once stood in its place. The remedy has a focus on creole food and they do an excellent job on several dishes. Dishes like the gulf grouper over a potato pancake prove it. Fresh, juicy and cajun, merged into a wonderful dish. Chicken Wings did seem to make my stomach upset the next day (and I can't imagine it's the spice since I eat much spicier food on regular basis). Shrimp appetizer is phenomenal. Grouper tacos are nice, but sadly very little grouper on them. Gumbo is best skipped, there is minimal seafood in it (literally two medium shrimp) and overall profile of it is not something to highlight. A bit more variety on the toppings for dishes could be a good thing, although the kale based topping is great that comes on most dishes, but it should not be the only thing. Tried the fish (grouper) and chips one day (piping hot, great batter) and the perfectly grilled grouper with potato cakes and broccolini another night - it comes with a sauce that could be its own gumbo-thick and popping! Driving up to the restaurant we were skeptical because the restaurant is part of a hotel. We took our chances and I'm so glad we did! The vibe is very welcoming and relaxed. Our waitress was so sweet and chatty and offered up her menu favorites as recommendations. We went with her suggestion of the Daily catch (Grouper) Special and Sandwich. The special was amazing and the sandwich was very delicious! We couldn't pass up an order of beignets with a chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces for dessert from a Louisiana chef. So to begin service was a little slow. They have an open kitchen which depending on what kind of person you are can be a good or bad thing. Update: We watched our food sit for over 15 minutes completed. It was cold when they brought it. Possibly miscommunication with the kitchen but still unacceptable. It was not very busy so I'm not sure where the confusion came in. Pros - mimosa refills are $4 lol - nice view if you want to sit outside Cons -service could be more efficient but it could just be an off day for them. -parking is confusing. There were many cars with tickets when we pulled up so we were hesitant on where to park. Overall the food was good. The service definitely made the experience lack luster. Wow! For a tourist trap this was surprisingly good! Came here for brunch and my friend had the florabama benedict and I had the shrimp tacos. I was very impressed with how good it was! Very flavorful sauce on the tacos and the shrimp was cooked perfectly, I was expecting the big gulf shrimp but even tho they were smaller they were still fresh. I also had the passion fruit guava mimosa- to die for! My friend had the sun potion cocktail and it was soo good. It wasn't too sweet, the perfect sip. We were kept in dark. Literally. We were led to sit outside. We sat there in the dark until we asked for a lamp to see the menu. Took 15min for the waitress to acknowledge us when we flagged her and asked for a lamp. Just left the lamp without a word and moved on. She passed by our table numerous times prior serving others. Appreciate that the Beal House has a restaurant with some decent options breakfast through dinner. Enjoyed our breakfast sandwich as well as Cajun Benedict. Will say the avocado toast needed some seasonings (very bland and asked for more tomato for it because it was sparse and they said they were out?). Had fish and chips for dinner- highly recommend. Bartender Mike is great at cocktails and has good customer service, too. Will add that one night the kitchen (cooks) closed at 9:45 while we and others were still dining - was odd.
