Management ar this location did a disservice to it's guests yesterday. The establishment had a vow renewal ceremony which of course caused an increase in patronage. Management failed to adjust accordingly by not scheduling enough wait staff. My wife has a food allergy. We explained this to the manager and we came up with a work around while ordering our main meals. Super fun beachside restaurant. Honestly, you just have to get past the bugs/birds/mugginess because that's the price to pay for beachside. Once you're over that, it's wonderful. Food was great, drinks were super good, service was fast & friendly, even with a 12-top. They take food allergies VERY seriously and the manager came out to assure our friend her stuff would be cooked separate (she didn't ask for this, that's their standard practice which is very considerate). The only thing good about the whole experience was that we were seated immediately. Once we were seated it took forever for our waitress to acknowledge us to get drink orders. After an hour, she took our dinner orders. Food arrived 30 minutes later except for one meal. That took another 15 minutes to arrive. That was OK because no one could eat because no one had silverware to eat theirs with!! We told the person who delivered the first food that everyone needed silverware but was ignored. Of course by the time we could eat our food, it was cold. Waitress kept disappearing and drinks were not refilled. By the way, be prepared for a 20% mandatory gratuity. The waitress knew she was going to be rewarded regardless of the service so she could have cared less. Shame on you Sherifa!! You are costing your employer money since our group will not return. What a fun place. Live music with an open air restaurant. Food was reasonable but we were there for the Key Lime pie. It was wonderful. Staff was helpful and friendly. On a recent family vacation to Destin, my family and I were looking for a nice dinner after a sunset boat ride. Little did we know everything closes a little early in Destin. So we just started driving down 98 and got on the trusty Yelp app. Usually I focus on ratings and this place had a mixed bag of reviews and ratings. Our options were limited so we decided to give it a try. This turned out to be one of those don't judge a book by it's cover kind of things. Driving up, the restaurant was a little hard to spot initially since its a little bit off the road behind a fancy boat dealership. There is parking right in front of the restaurant as well as overflow parking a little further out. This seemed to be a very popular spot as the lots were full and there were alot of people waiting for tables outside. This place is massive. Right when you walk in, you have the restaurant and bar off to the right, and a gift shop and arcade off to the left. We were told there would be a wait, but the time went by fast as we kept ourselves entertained shopping and playing in the arcade. Like mentioned before, this place is huge. There's a huge space "inside". I use quotes as its basically one big open air space. I imagine they can close it off when weather gets bad. They have a bar inside, as well as a big bar out on the beach area. They didn't ask what kind of seating we wanted, but we lucked out and got seated on the patio area which had big tables right on the beach. There was plenty of space for kiddos to run around in the sand. The moon was bright and made for a picturesque setting. They had live music playing which our whole family jammed out to. You can also ride up on your boats or jet skis and dock and enjoy the restaurant as well. Need henna, hair wraps, or glitter tattoos? They got that going as well! It's your typical tourist trap, but I ain't mad at it. I wish I could remember who took care of us that night, but she did an outstanding job from start to finish with our large group. We were famished and skipped appetizers and went straight to entrees. As expected in the area, the menu is mainly focused on seafood, but they also are known for their award winning burgers. I need to come back to check that out. We all went with seafood on this visit though. I love a good fried seafood platter and I saw they had a very unique item here. Their fish baskets use unicorn fish. Yes, it's a real fish! I got the Half & Half basket which came with the choice of two items out of unicorn fish, shrimp or oysters. You can get these grilled, blackened or fried. I went with fried and it came with fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. They have other side options, but those sides are a perfect match with fried food. The basket had a generous portion of everything and could have easily been shared. My leftovers lasted me a whole other full meal. I was nervous about this mystery fish, but it turned out to be very good. It's a white, firm, flaky fish thats perfect for frying. The fries were of the seasoned, battered variety and delicious. The coleslaw was a perfect, fresh bite while eating the fried food. Everyone in the fam loved their food too. You can't come to Florida and not have key lime pie, so I had to order some for the table. It was another item we all loved here. Overall, I'm glad I went against my usual judgement and tried this place out. Yes, it's a tourist trap, but it was a fun stop for us. I'd come back if in the area. read more

Blackened fish was great! Awesome place for families with little kids if you sit outside. They are really helpful with allergies. On a beach trip we had a 16th birthday. We were traveling with a large party and called ahead to ask about accommodations. They told us best time to arrive as they could not do reservations. This was my favorite restaurant on a recent trip to Destin among a lot of great places that we ate. First of all, the view is beautiful and there's a beach area where kids can play. There's also a nice gift shop and even an arcade area. The night we went there was live music by a great performer. But above all else, the food was delicious. I am not a big grits person but decided to go for the gulf shrimp and grits. I'm still dreaming about it!! It was perfection. Warm and filling and perfectly flavorful. I've been here before and enjoyed it more in the past, but comparing it to two years ago, the experience has definitely gone downhill. If you're looking for loud, live music and are okay with average food, this place still delivers on the atmosphere. But that's about where the positives end. There's no way to call ahead or make a reservation--which makes sense given the setup--but personally, I wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes to eat here again. Honestly, I'm not likely to return. We started with the okra appetizer. It was slightly undercooked but still had decent flavor. Unfortunately, the fish tacos were a letdown--small, overly "fishy" tasting, and poorly prepared. They looked more like a kid's portion than an adult meal, which was surprising. I'm not sure what the rest of my family ordered, but I clearly remember everyone's reaction: *"Eww."* To top it all off, the restaurant now tacks on a 2% "village fee," which is just ridiculous. This was our second visit here. We brought a large group for dinner because our first visit was great. This second visit was nothing like the first and we regretted coming. We arrived at 7pm on a Thursday. We had a group of 13 people. They told us it would be a 2 hour wait. We agreed and went out by the bar to watch the sunset. Our buzzer went off after only an hour wait, which was a great surprise and we were seated at our table. We sat down at 8pm. The restaurant seemed to be slowing down around this time as not all of the tables were full like they were when we first arrived. They had live music playing and it was really great. Our servers name was Timothy. It took him a while to come and get our drink orders and then we hardly saw him for the rest of the night. He took our appetizer order with our drink orders and off he went. It took a long time to actually put in our dinner order because he didn't come back to the table for a while. Other tables around us were getting serviced but our waiter wasn't very present. We were finally given our food at 9:40. After being on a boat all day with small children, this was unacceptable. Our entire group was pretty upset at how long it took to get our dinner. Once it finally came out, the quality was not what we expected. My shrimp on my salad was overcooked and my nephew ordered the grouper kids meal and the fish was not edible. Most meals were cold and were not worth the wait. We were upset because tables around us were getting their meals faster than we were even though we had put it out order before they had. It felt like we were just waiting, waiting, waiting. Maybe the server didn't put our order in when we gave it to him? With having a larger group, gratuity is already included in the check so maybe he didn't think he had to give us good service? We have no clue what happened and probably should have gotten a manager but we were so tired we just wanted to go. I didn't even finish my meal before we left. The hour wait for the table was fine, we didn't mind that but waiting over an hour and a half for food to come out, is crazy. Especially when everyone around us was getting their meals much faster. LuLu's is a huge restaurant on top of the Gulf and is great for parties of 2 parties with more than 10 people. You can either dine inside to keep out of the Florida sunshine and have the ac and fans going or sit outside to enjoy the sun. The service of our waiter was pretty good , but seemed slightly overwhelmed. When we requested refills or another dressing it seemed to take a while. The food runners were on point. It seemed liked once the food was plated it went immediately out. Recommendations : the onion rings which I didn't get a photo of. The were lightly battered and seasoned well. The BLT with fried green tomato. The shrimp po boy not photographed. I probably ordered the wrong thing. I got a bowl that came with yellow rice, black beans, greens, and grilled shrimp. The shrimp tasted great, but I wouldn't suggest this item, since they're so many other options on the menu. I just felt like this was a boring dish. read more

Didn't expect that, but here we are. The shrimp po' boy was packed with the freshest shrimp I've ever had (granted, I live in Oklahoma where shrimp comes from the freezer section, but still). My daughter loved her chicken strips and fries, but let's be real--the kids' fries were better than the ones that came with my meal. Mine were kind of "meh," hers were golden and crispy. My fried green tomato sandwich was very dry and mid. Sampling other food at the table gave the same meh feeling. Nothing really to rave about. The bread pudding was delicious however. One of our favorite places to come to when we are in Destin. Wait time can be long, that is why we always try to find a spot at the bar. Of all the times we come, it's hard to find a complaint. LuLu's is a family favorite anytime we are vacationing in the area. We have been to this location and the Gulf Shores location before. We have the merch, we are familiar with the food, service, and the vibe that only LuLu's delivers. This time was different. Beverages were good, seating was good. The server did a good job helping us with our selections for our order. Appetizers were great. But the main course was a disappointment. The fish and shrimp were overloaded with lemon pepper. The flavor was all lemon pepper and the color of the food was yellow. We probably would have sent it back, but the service was team was MIA. Perhaps they were understaffed at the time? We wiped off the food, and managed to eat it - and drank a lot of water. I mentioned our disappointment in the food to the server, asking her to inform the kitchen. First, the positives, then the bad!!! Server was super nice, but we had a 1 hr wait before being seated, then another hour to receive food! After the longest wait, we received our food. All of it was AWFUL! Pimento burger had hardly no pimento. Po'boy sandwich was dry, no sauces etc. SUPER bland. It was fried shrimp on bread, with a piece of lettuce, 1 pickle slice, and a slice of tomato. Dry as a bone! The gumbo had vegetables that weren't all the way cooked down, it was supposed to be shrimp and crab. NO crab in the whole bowl... FIRST AND LAST VISIT! The gift shop and waiting area was super cool.
