Still remember this place as a Chinese restaurant!! Yup ages ago!! This place was huge, too!! Full of round tables and servers trolling the carts with dim sum! Now when you walk in, it greets you with a sleek interior of big windows and a full bar in the middle the room. If you keep walking, passing the bar, it will take you to a short hallway into another room where the stage is and the night begins! You can rock-on all night having access to the 3 full bars, under cool A.C., and a raised stage! This place also serves food! Simple menu chalk-written on the wall. Seats are limited. The only downside is the ladies' room. From what I remember, there were only two stalls... so busy night equals long lines. This place is roomy but can get packed on good nights. I love going to concerts and having a great time! The republik is one of honolulu's popular concert venues. I've seen some of my favorite artists here: Fiji, diplo, nervo, rebelution, and so many more. There is also The Safehouse in the back which has awesome food and drinks! A lot of the times when they have concerts, it gets pretty packed. They oversell their tickets so if it's a popular artist or band, expect it to be hit and squishy. Personally I feel like the venue is the best for smaller concerts. When there aren't too many people, it's a lot more enjoyable because there is more space for dancing and walking around. When it's packed, it's like you can barely breath and you're literally getting shoved all over the place. It also gets pretty hot, but there is a HUGE fan in the venue located in the middle of the dance floor (this is my favorite place to stand when it's too hot). Overall the venue is 18+, sometimes 21+. But sometimes they let people under aged go in as long as there is parent with them and depending on the concert. Overall a great place to have a good time! I always find myself coming here! There's also the District located right downstairs and V lounge, so there are plenty of options for after the concert ends. read more

The Republik claims to be ADA compliant but if your disabled you pay the same price as everyone else, which is ok, but then you have to sit way in the back by the bar on a couch or chair where you would not be able to see the band. I so badly wanted to see Nathaniel Ratliff but that is what they told me when I asked if they could accommodate me. So sad! I want to be up front!! read more

I've been coming to The Republik since their first show which was Bloc Party, which I actually did not get to see cause I did not buy ticket on time. Lesson learned, when a band you like is in town buy the tickets and worry about getting there later. The venue is brand new with a vegas Hard Rock Cafe Hotel feel, black floors and ceilings and walls of alcohol back lit with LEDs. The HVAC provides exceptional air conditioning when your stuck in the front and sweating your balls off. There's two big screen TVs adjacent to the stage so you can see the band playing if your stuck in front of tall people. You really feel like your close the band in any part of the venue because its not a stadium Blaisdale or amphitheater like Kaakao. Its just a 5 foot elevated stage and a room to rock out when your band is in town. In the back of the Venue is a bar called the Safe House which provides plenty of seating with couches and lounge chairs. Pretty cool place to pregame if your heading to ginza. This is my new favorite spot to go to if your looking for something different other than the club scene. Highly recommend it. read more

Venue is pretty good for intimate concerts. Bathrooms are clean, several bars around the venue and the prices are expected for a concert venue. DO NOT park at the mall across the street if you'll be there past 1030 pm. You WILL get towed and have to deal with that. read more

I went to the Republik to watch the Thunder Down Under show as part of a bachelorette party. The venue itself was alright, the staff was fine, but the sound system there was just HORRIBLE!! Whoever was in charge of the sound system there must be deaf, because it was turned up ridiculously loud. It was so loud you could barely hear the speakers clearly and everyone's ears were ringing afterwards. Hours later, my ears were STILL ringing!! Also, the sound quality was very bad. It was an "okay" venue. Inside was nice, very neat decor, but it is small. Very small. The bartenders were fast and knowledgeable. We had to wait in the line outside for quite a bit though, and it seemed we beat the crowd. The monitors that showed the onstage performer was a little blury and unfocused. There were a lot of issues with the lighting....sound.....lights. It took the band (third eye blind) several hours to come out due to equipment malfunctions. I also later found out this place was in violation of a fire code which kept many people outside the venue. "okay" at best. Would expect more from a place that is headlining successful groups/artists. To the credit of Third Eye Blind, they did a free semi-show in kapolani park the next day to make up for the short comings the night before. read more

This place is awesome. They host some really awesome music acts, and the management staff is amazing. There was an incident recently where one of my tickets was somehow already used. I was distraught, thinking I would have to miss the show I had paid good money for, but thankfully when I spoke with the manager and showed her my electronic receipt, she was very understanding of the situation. read more

Yay, I finally got to come here! Went to see The Deadbeats tribute to a Tribe Called Quest on 8/23/13. I really liked this venue as you can tell it was made for concerts in mind and not as an afterthought like most "clubs" because of the attention to stage height, acoustics, lighting, lots of TVs for viewings etc. It's still newer, the AC was blowing cold and the place was not packed, which is absolutely key for me. It was nice to have the space in the back to roam around when the front got to crowded. I would definitely come here again to see an artist perform Pros: -Liked all the TVs showing the stage/performace so you could see it from anywhere in the venue -Great bar service -Cold A/C! I was surprised about this, I actually felt like I needed a sweater. lol. -Lots of toilets in the Ladies Room! Thank you! -No service fees if you buy tickets at SafeHouse -Lot's of bars; they almost outline the floor space Cons: -Pricey drinks ($9 for a Jamie & Ginger, $4 for schmegular bottled water, they did not offer tap that night) -Hard to find; it's upstairs/up the ramp. I had to ask one of the businesses on the ground floor where it was. WOW!!! Best venue for Live Music in Honolulu that is not a concert hall or Arena. Really nice inside. Attentive bartenders and good drinks too! Sound system and acts were great on the night I went (Deadbeats, Prolific Unknowns, The Bentos). Got drunk at ordered the brushetta... delicious! Only bad... $15 valet parking. That was the same price as the ticket to get inside - $15 for 3 live bands...that I have no problem paying for, but parking... ouch, no way! I chanced parking at the Mall (even though tow signs are posted if a car is left past 10:30p). We left at midnight.... car was still there thank god! I went to see Coheed & Cambria at the Republik. It was my first time there. My review is a bit lengthy because I cover a lot of things including finding the place, the venue, and the show itself. There's some good, some bad, and a few ideas to make the bad better. Hope it helps some of you! The Venue First thing: where is this place?? I hit up Google Maps and recognized the area immediately but I never knew the Republik was there. On Google Street view I couldn't see anything to indicate where the Republik is. Which building is it? Where do I park? Which door to I enter? Is it on the ground floor or higher up? Where the hell is this place?? From other Yelp reviews I learned there's no parking. Just a $15 valet, and that's way too much for parking. I found street parking in a nearby residential area and, guided by GPS, ventured out on foot to find the place. When GPS said the Republik was in front of me I didn't see anything that said Republik. I searched around and glimpsed "lik" painted on the second floor building. Ok, it's upstairs. One really simple fix, get a sign or a banner visible from the street to say "Hey everybody, the Republik is up here! Check us out!" The Republik has a good set up for a show. There's plenty of room and a few bars along the walls. The stage could be centered a little better but it works. My biggest complaint is the acoustics of the place. The room is basically an open box. Sound waves crashed against each other creating a harsh static-like distortion. The music does not sound clear. Maybe get some sound-absorbing materials to hang on the walls and ceilings. It's bad when it takes a full minute to recognize a well-known song through all the distortion. And dang, they are awesome live! I got there on time but then found there were two opening bands. I've always seen openers advertised in the fine print of fliers and ads. But I didn't see any openers advertised anywhere. Not on the Republik Facebook page, posters, nowhere. Now it's possible I may have missed it but usually openers aren't buried in the fine print that much. I'm not complaining about the bands themselves. They were okay. The point I want to make is they were on stage far too long. The first opener was on stage for 45 minutes. Between songs they would ask the crowd if we were ready for Coheed, to which I shouted "yes, so get off the stage!" At first it was a joke but after three times I was serious. Get off the stage! After the first opener the local radio sponsor had to do their obligatory promo plugs. The second opener was on stage for at least half an hour. Again, the band was okay but I wasn't there to see them. I wanted Coheed and felt like I was waiting too long. There should be a 5 song limit for opening bands. Give us a taste of what you got but remember we're there for headliner. Whoever coordinated the stage time dropped the ball on this one. So after an hour and a half of opening bands, probably longer when factoring in break times between performances, prize giveaways, and radio plugs, Coheed & Cambria finally took the stage. It was awesome! The crowd was jumping and shouting and I was right in the thick of it. Good times! The only drawback is that it felt like a short show. After that much time hearing openers and radio jockeys going 'blah blah blah' I wanted the main event to last longer. There was more time spent on opening bands and radio plugs than with the main show. To me, that's backwards. Give me more of the headliner, it's the whole reason why I showed up in the first place. The Price Tickets - reasonably priced at $30. Not bad for a quality band like Coheed & Cambria. Parking - $15 valet, total rip off. I recommend finding street parking in the residential area. It's not a far walk. Drinks - 6$ Bud Light on special, a total rip off when you find out it's half a bottle poured into a small plastic cup. Imagine what their cocktails and spirits are priced at. I recommend finding a small bar nearby to have a few drinks before the show. That's what I did and it worked out just fine. In Conclusion The Republik is bringing in good bands and performances. Keep it up! However, please improve the sound quality in there. The distortion is horrible. Get a sign or something to promote yourself and to make it easy to find the place. Avoid valet parking and the bar. Both are rip offs in price. Manage the stage time a little better so I don't feel overly bombarded with opening acts and radio sponsor messages. I'm there to see the headliner so don't make me wait too much and let the headliner have a better chunk of time. Cheers! read more

If you want to attend a small concert venue. The Republik is probably one of the only places to go. My gf loves to go to concerts and a majority of the ones we go to are held here. Bamp project seems to hold most of their events here...I wonder if they own the place lol. We seen concerts from Yellowcard and recently Underoath. What I like about the place is the location next to Ala Moana Shopping Center, so it is easy to find and parking is abundant at the shopping center. If you want to park there it is $15 lol! They have several full bars and a kitchen if you want to order food too. One day I told my gf we can try to order food. Some things I do not like of The Republik are the sound, size, and stage layout. As for the sound maybe bc the space is small, it is hard to hear vocals of the artists. I am not sure if it is a technical thing or the space. The sound can be pretty loud too as I see people with ear plugs sometimes. As for the size of the place, it is a small place so some concerts sell out. Yellowcard sold out and this place will not hold a very famous group. One thing I do not like about the floor layout is that there are several large pillars near the stage, that impede the view of the stage from certain angles. They do have large flat screens posted to see the group though if you do not have a clear view of the band. Rock on Republik and keep the bands coming! read more

Quest giver Frolic Hawaii occasionally sends me here on photography raids. The experience is good, with some decent drops. Back in the days, for live shows, it was either The Wave or Pipeline. After those places shutdown, there was a serious drought of venues for bands. And the town was thirsty. The Republik is like a unique legendary drop, for all those who crave an amazing venue for their concert going needs. The venue is clean, spacious, and has amazing lighting, especially for photography. The sound ain't nothing to sneeze at either. There's a fenced off area in front of the stage, to prevent random fans from hugging Morrisey. For most gigs, the photogs get to hang out there and capture pictures for the first three songs. It's an awesome experience, getting to have the sweat from famous musicians hit you randomly, since you're so close. Even the not so famous ones. The Repulik. We are happy to have you. Now we just need a competing club called The Democracy. read more

Best concert venue in Hawaii next to the Hawaii theatre. The atmosphere in here is really nice, It reminds me of some of the venues i love in Seattle. I love that it fees so intimate. No bad spot in the house and the TVs really help by far! It feels intimate but not claustrophobic. It feels pretty trendy with the decorations on the inside. Also the 4 doors for entry and exiting help with the long waits. The space is really nice, the double bars help with long waiting for drinks. Prices arent bad! But they didnt have a wide variety of mixers for drinks, I wanted pineapple juice and rum but they only had cranberry or orange. ITS HAWAII!!! The bathrooms are really clean! The women's even had an attendant who was so pleasant! With BAMP Project bringing awesome bands to Hawaii this is the place to be at! Ive been to 2 shows here and have enjoyed every minute! I give it 4 stars because of the parking situation. Since the place has like no parking you are forced to park in random places. I usually park at the mall but sometimes i fear getting towed after a long show. So far so good! read more

The Security Guards are unprofessional and sexually harassed me. One was standing next to the woman's bathroom and he tapped me and said that I was beautiful while I was going into the bathroom. On the next night, another security guard tried to use force to kick me out when I tried to confront a man who kept touching me inappropriately. When I tried to let this security guard know that the man kept touching me inappropriately, the security guard started pushing me and physically hurting me while he was kicking me out of the Republik. read more

After the closure of World Cafe on Nimitz Highway, then Pipeline Cafe in Kakaako, I was left wondering where our small to mid-sized touring concerts would take place. Cue The Republik. It's a welcome addition to the handful of venues that can accommodate acts that are too big for, say, Next Door, yet too small for the Blaisdell Concert Hall or Arena. However, it's in a strange location -- out of the public's view, up a ramp in a two-story complex near Ala Moana Shopping Center. Valet parking is $15 and *very* limited, so be prepared to park along Kapiolani Blvd. after 6:30 pm, or at Ala Moana Center. I've been to several shows here so far. I've walked in not too long after the doors-open time to secure a spot on the barrier, though this of course depends on the popularity of the act performing. Though it's a small venue -- roughly about 1,200 capacity -- there are great sight lines throughout the room. TV monitors are on either side of the stage, and three bars with modern decor line the side and back of The Republik. One thing that irks me about this place is its outside appearance. I'm not sure if this was a strategic decision on the owner's part, but the whole "let's make the outside look as ghetto as possible but make the inside totally classy" deal just doesn't vibe with me. Either go totally ghetto or totally classy. All in all, glad Honolulu has a mid-sized venue for touring acts. Looking forward to coming here again. read more

OK...so I recently gave this place another chance. Mostly because I really wanted to see Of Monsters and Men. I'll admit though, this time it seemed nicer. The sound system still sucked, and when we tried to order food they were out of three of the items off the already small list, to include fries (who runs out of fries?!). But the monitors were on this time, the lighting was better (or seemed better from what I remember) and there was one of those huge propeller fans on the ceiling in the middle (not sure if there was there in '14 or not...but I noticed it this time.) There was hardly a wait at any of the bars and the service was quick. We did not have any issues with the bouncers. They were friendly and courteous to us. Final note: I hate it when there are 'bathroom attendants'. I never know if I should tip or not...and then how much? I mean, should I really have to pay a person for literally tearing off a piece of towel from a dispenser I am perfectly capable of operating on my own? And all those soaps and strange perfumes...who uses those? I didn't tip the first time I used the restroom because my stall had ONE square of toilet paper left. I mean, if you are going to 'manage' a restroom then it seems fair that the most fundamental thing to provide would be toilet paper. So I used the restroom 4 times throughout the evening (I may have had a few beers) and then tipped at the end. That seemed to pass the logic test for me at the end of the night. read more

Hailing from Seattle, I've been to some pretty kick ass venues and seen some kick ass shows. Also traveled to some big cities and seen some shows there as well (Los Angeles, NYC), so my live music venue expectations have been somewhat high. Moved to Honolulu in August 2012, and took me until April 2014 to finally attend a show here (Rise Against). This venue was a little tricky to find, since it's upstairs from a parking ramp thing. But you know you're in the right place with the huge "THE REPUBLIK" sign and awesome mural on the outside of the venue walls. Considering this is the only "real" venue in Honolulu, it's not bad. It's definitely smaller, holding about 1000 people at max capacity. So, comparable to both of the Showbox venues in Seattle. It makes for a more intimate show if a bigger act comes to town, and makes for a fun atmosphere for smaller acts. If your favorite artist or band comes to town, more likely than not, they'll have their show here at The Republik. Since my favorites don't come here often (or if at all), I wouldn't miss the opportunity, so I'd suggest you go and check it out :) I personally haven't had any issues with security, management, or the people working here. I know there are plenty of reviews and people who have had trouble with either the door people, ticket people, whatever *** CASH ONLY IF YOU PLAN TO PAY FOR A TICKET ON THE NIGHT OF A SHOW AT THE VENUE! There is an ATM right outside the ticket booth, but they'll get you with a $3+ fee. Plan ahead and either purchase your tickets in advance (only a $2 fee at the box office), or online. read more

This is my first time here since I live out of state. Came here to see Eli Mac. Got here at 7:30pm she went on at midnight. They also had hannah, DJ max (i think its his name), the late ones, kaipo kapua, not a bad line up. I was at the front. Sat in the safehouse til about 9ish, the bartender was nice, got bottle water and had some fries. Overall good experience, fyi, its a club, so you stand the whole time. read more

I'm finally writing a review for this place. I just went to see my favorite band Taking Back Sunday at The Republik this past Friday. It's there 20th anniversary tour. I love that The Republik does allow some intimacy with the band, "because the venue is smaller then most venues" and so when Adam Lazzar would reminisce about the good ol days and explain how the band would write or name their songs, it felt more personable, but I really have a high complaint regarding the sound quality. I've been coming to The Republik for various bands and each time I would go, the sound quality is always terrible. It is consistently too much bass. So much that you can't even hear the singers. All you hear is drums and bass. It's muddy, it's got a blown out static to it, and you know that every lead singer has a hard time because you can see the messing with their ear piece trying to hear the right key, they can't cus of the high volume of bass. For example, when the band played their acoustic song "New American Classic". You could barely hear Adam and his guitar. It was as if his mic was turned down low. Then when the keyboardist started to play, the low bass sounds shot out into the crowd like a crazed fire truck horn. When the drummer jumped in, all I could hear was the bass drum, no snare, no high hat, and just a ting of his crash cymbal. And there was Adam, frantically his ear piece or his mic effect so that his fans could hear him screamo. Honestly I bet it's because the person who does the EQ isn't set up in front of the stage therefore he doesn't know how crappy of a job he is doing! You can't blame the crowd, you can't blame the venue, and you can't blame the equipment. Your job and responsibility is to make sure the band is properly represented. The fix for the blown out bass sound is so simple TURN THE BASS DOWN LOWER. We wanted to go to the 2nd show but the only thing that stopped us was the fact that we knew the sound guy would ruin the band for us. read more

I have been to the Republik for quite a few events, and I like the venue. It has space and plenty of bars. The acoustics are pretty nice too. I've never had a problem with any staff and security is courteous. They don't get overly protective but do their job. From djs to bands, this venue seems to hold up on quality. I came by this weekend to support my cousin and his band since they were opening up for Maoli.. I never knew where the Republik was until I realized this is where they held the Dunk Exchange all those years ago. Anywho, I have to say that this place is nice! Nice as in a nice big area. Upon entering, they have a lounge to the left and the concert area is on the right. I only walked through the lounge area but the food that they were serving smelled sooooo gooooddddd!!!!! i have to make it a point to try their food next time.. from what my eyes caught on the menu they have on the wall.. it ranges from $6-$10 and up maybe?? The concert side, is nice and spacious.. I was freezing my buttocks off though but I figured that they blast the a/c because if there are a lot of bodies, it'll get hot... but it didn't get to the point where it was shoulder to shoulder. oops getting off track. The bar is kind of high.. not please forgive me and correct me if Im wrong, being that I don't go out to bars and clubs that often but two beers and a drink came out to $23.. is that a lot?? me being chang..i thought it was. but the bartender was very kind and patient while my cousins and I were trying to figure out what we wanted to drink. nice place! read more

Last year they brought down a lot of rap and hip artists such as: 1) Danny Brown 2) Action Bronson twice 3) Schoolboy Q 4) Childish Gambino 5) Zion I and Atmosphere 6) Ghostface Killah 7) My personal favorite Danny Brown Even one of my favorite comedians: Nick Swardson came down to The Republik The place is spacious and the service is great but the only downfall is the audio system or the way the sound travels through the club is sometimes a bit hard to listen to. That is the only concern I have about the place. The venue has in a way have become the replacement ever since Pipeline closed down by Ward. read more

Yay-I'm a fan! For an indoor venue here in Honolulu, it's basically the best you can get. Just like some of the other reviews says, they could do some tweeking on their sound system. I went to the Chevelle concert. Lines for drinks were short. The security guards are pretty up tight, they break up fights fast and don't tolerate foolishness. When Pipeline Cafe closed, I was pretty bummed. That fire hazard of a place was the venue where I saw a number of my favorite bands. Also, when it closed, I was concerned because it affected which bands would tour here since Hawaii then lacked a music venue that wasn't Blaisdell or Kakaako Waterfront. Thank goodness for The Republik. I'm very thankful to have a mid-sized music venue again. It's not perfect, but it's still very good. On one's first time to the Republik, it's a bit tricky to look out for. It's out of the public view (seriously, my friends and I drove up three or four times before someone spotted the Republik signage tucked further in than we expected). I've never done valet ($15); I've always parked at Ala Moana because it's way closer than Wal-Mart. Just make sure you're on at least 2nd level. Upon entering and getting ticket scanned, you will encounter the merch section. Oh, and if you want to buy tickets for upcoming events (highly recommended...you don't pay those stupid ticket fees!), you can do so with the people who scanned your ticket. Obviously, if you want merch, get it BEFORE the concert. Don't forget to tip the nice Filipino lady (or man...I don't know if the guy's room has attendants). I forgot the first time I went, and I feel so bad. Be nice, it can't be a fun job. One important thing: bring earplugs. I've accepted that most music venues will leave me walking out with ringing ears. I keep forgetting my dang earplugs. Protect your hearing, kiddos. The sound mix is pretty loud, and mixed on band to band. For example, I went to Tegan and Sara on 11/21/14 (w/o earplugs), and I thought the sound was fine. I also went to AFI (and remembered ear plugs!) and the ear plugs helped to filter the excess noise and I could enjoy the music. Oh, and wear comfy shoes. You'll be standing a while. There is The Safehouse in the back, which has stools around the bar and little nooks in the back, but there is pretty much no seating in the concert floor. My feet were pretty sore after a while. Maybe I'm just getting old. Speaking of The Safehouse, there are 2 other main bar areas, and I *think* 2 other tables that serve drinks. The bartenders I've encountered have been totally on it. I usually get a Jack and Coke ($9.50). I do get the occasional shot, but J&C's are my concert go to. The view is pretty good, unless you're stuck behind a pillar or behind tall people. Get your spot in the front early, if you want it. Of course, it all depends on the popularity of the band. There are monitors in The Safehouse and on the sides of the venue to watch the show on. Anyway, it's a lot cleaner than the old Pipeline cafe. The air con is good and those little cold air machines they have are pretty fun. It's a solid venue. Glad we have it. read more

This is a mix Republik/Safehouse review. First; Safehouse. It's modern and trendy and couture etcetera. I don't really dig that particular vibe, though I wouldn't deduct a star for a simple lack of style congruence. But I have to concur with the other Yelpers that the system of reservations for those VIP seats (that I hardly ever see used) goes over the top. Lay off the pretentiousness, please... Can we have a venue for the People? Yes, the drinks are too expensive for their proportions and presentation. Though it does make sense to not use glassware since it would be impossible to manage people bringing their beverages from lounge to concert stage. I just think it's sensible to notch down the drinks a few dollars, or otherwise make them worth the price. Republik is a great venue. I had no issue with the sound for any of the concerts I've seen. The vibe is always wonderful. Bathrooms are a good size. Never have to wait too long and I appreciate the handwashing service. Parking's not that bad. I always park on Kapiolani and it's never more than a five minute walk. Room for improvement? The ticketing system. It would be nice if there were more options for places around the island to buy tickets while avoiding ridiculous service fees. And also, nice if you'd also accept major credit cards and/or debit cards for ticket purchases onsite. Just my two pretty pennies. read more

They often have good live concerts that all styles of music and tickets are reasonable too. I hate to say that some people don't know how to enjoy but always look for a trouble... I've only been here twice for 2 events, and this last experience I had was kinda annoying. I was interested in the last event that was held here this past weekend for Sammy J, and because we were going in a big group we didn't want to stand up in the front by the stage. If you have never gone here for a public event seats and tables are only reserved for bottle service and lets just say that bottle service is very pricey here. But the reason for such a low rate is because the process I had to go through just to get bottle service. I had called the republik to find out who I can speak to about it, no one answered so I had left a message so someone could get back to me. So couple days had gone by and I still got no call back, I had called them again and I was told to email the person that is in charge of that so that's what I did. A whole week had gone by and I still got no response again, so I called them again and emailed that same person again. When I called they told me that it takes him a couple days to reply and that I should try to email his alt. email so I did exactly that. Mind you we didn't even buy the tickets yet for the event and it was in about a 2 weeks. Another week had gone buy and I still got no response from that person, so I emailed the customer service that was on their website to see what was going on. We were looking forward to it and it was very upsetting that they took so long just to answer my questions. I finally got a response from them and it was already the week of the event and we still didn't buy our tickets yet. We were only going to go if we could get bottle service if there wasn't any tables available we wouldn't have gone. At the end of it all we were able to get a table for $360; bottle service starts at $360 per bottle and you get any backs you want with it. We had about 7 people with us and we sat comfortably at the corner table in the back which they call The Safehouse. It is very pricey but its totally worth it because you have seats for the whole night and you don't have to fight the crowd, and let me tell you when HIFinest's holds events here it gets very very crowded. And when you split it up between your group its an okay price. We also ordered food on a separate tab, we got the garlic French fries and the grilled cheese combo which were both totally worth it because it was yummerrrssss!!! But other than that we had a really good time when things all got squared away and it was totally worth the money we paid! But I do highly recommend getting to them quicker due to the late responses it was upsetting that I had to go through this. read more

My prayers have been answered! A suitable Pipeline replacement is now here. While I don't mind catching the occasional arena concert, I prefer the small to mid sized venues to see live bands. With top capacity roughly around 1300-1400, The Republik is perfect for catching some of your favorite music. A group of us went to see Ozomatli headline a show (local bands Ooklah the Moc and Kawao were kind enough to get the party started) and we had a great time! Because Ozo had the crowd dancing up a storm, we needed the a/c blasting. And it was. We were almost right next to the stage and overall the sound was good. Definitely better than Pipeline in my opinion. While the bar area closest to the stage seemed a little understaffed (my friend almost had to tackle the bartender to get her attention), they had Bass as well as some other solid beers on tap. As far as the location, it's on the second level (maikai side of Kapiolani) across the street from some of the drinky drinky places and is a quick stroll from Amuse Bar or good eats on Keeaumoku St. If you like live music, this place is worthwhile. read more

To be honest, it's almost as good as Pipeline Cafe. But it is pretty damn big. I've been to the venue three times. But the first time I was a little disappointed because I didn't really see the stage area, I've been to only the lounge (Safehouse) and I thought that was it. Second time opened my eyes and I saw how the whole venue was used and it was pretty awesome. I'm actually glad there is a venue like this for shows because Waikiki Shell is good for lounge-like concerts but rock concerts, the Republik is the very next best place. They also serve food (again Safehouse area)! The food pretty good! I liked the fried ravioli. It was like... Cheesy but you would never expect a pasta to be fried. There's also a Kalua pork pizza! I visited Republik while on vacation. Republik is a quality venue. My primary concern for a venue is dealing with smoke (real or vape) and sound quality. The bands sounded great. I wasn't in clouds of smoke. The drink pricing was as expected. I was surprised by the $20 minimum for a credit card given you can only buy a drink at a time. The staff were friendly. The bathrooms were clean. The layout made it easy to get around. Parking was plentiful nearby. read more

My beastie and I saw Bone Thugs the other weekend and had an amazing time. What wasn't so great was that Bone Thugs did not arrive until 3 hours after they were suppose to go on--bad form. However, the dj's kept the audience movin' and groovin'. A lot of beautiful men and women were there that night so I was busy while waiting for the show to start. I do not drink alcohol, but the lounge area is nice and they have multiple bar areas. Again, some of the most beautiful people show up to this venue so dress to impress. I recommend parking at Ala Moana and then walking over--parking can be pricey on the day of an event. read more

Management was horrible. I was here with my friend to enjoy the night and they barred me for no apparent reason. If you're a white person prepared go be demoralized by lance and his team. Been here for many shows so far such as Odd Future, Bring Me The Horizon, 2 Chainz, Brian Posehn, Morgan Page, Excision, etc. The list goes on lol. Venue is an ok layout. Nice super loud sound system. The one issue, the bouncers. They are all completely rude. Never dealt with them personally but I've seen just the way they look and talk to people, no friendliness at all. When shows end is when they really come alive, they don't stop yelling for people to move and get out of the place. Even outside, they still yell at you and direct you to either leave down the ramp or stairs. Mind you I've been to HUNDREDS of concerts in my life and I understand they're just doing their job, making sure everyone is safe, blah blah blah. But many other venues I've been to have such nicer staff and still get everything running smoothly. Unfortunately all these friendlier venues are not in Hawaii lol. I always have an awesome time when I see a show here though. read more

Love this place! They always seem to be having great events and great music shows! It's a nice cozy atmosphere for watching a concert and I've enjoyed a handful of them here last year and plan to enjoy many more this year. Bathrooms are always clean and bright. I've only been to one event here, but so far I really like it as a concert venue. There is a lot of space, so if you're not in the mood to be squished up against strangers you don't have to be. Seeing Death Cab for Cutie here was such a good decision. While it's spacious, it still felt like an intimate show. There were 2 bars so I didn't have to wait long. And the bathroom was clean, that's always a good thing. read more
