People were staking out tables more than an hour before the show, and when the patio was being cleared, there was a line of people waiting to put down their names. We were fortunate to grab a table in the upper deck area (it's not clearly labeled, but the circular tables by the bar are first-come, first-serve), and we ordered some drinks and appetizers while we waited. Yes, the prices are higher and portion sizes are smaller than what you get, but it's for the view and entertainment. Our servers were attentive and were very good about refilling our water cups, which I really appreciated. Henry Kapono was great, and after we were done with our meal, we went out to the patio to join folks who were enjoying the music. People were dancing in front of the stage area, socializing with other guests, and enjoying the wonderful weather, drinks, and music. What more can you ask for when you're visiting Hawaii? :)

The octopus was cooked good (I would prefer it be a little softer) but still very enjoyable and the flavors were really good. The pasta and soft shell, cooked perfectly and flavors on point. So much so that I need the recipe so I can add this dish into my dinner rotation! The name of the restaurant comes from one of the Charlie Chan mystery books written by Earl Derr Biggers in the late-1920's. The legend is that Biggers, a Honolulu police detective, wrote his Chan books in the back yard of a friend that lived in a house where the hotel is now located. A bonus - the restaurant comps parking at the hotel - just tip the guys parking the cars.

We visited after lunch rush, but the restaurant was still full and had people waiting outside. Inside, the area is packed with tables, so it may be hard to flag down servers when you need something. But you can tell that everyone is working hard and trying to service all the tables. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, had bunch of leftovers to take back, and walked away full and happy.
