I ordered potatoes and shrimp mac and cheese it came with four pieces of shrimp small pieces at that with just some sprinkled seasoning on top of the shrimp that is not Cajun mac and cheese at all. Change your portion size for the amount of money you charge. read more

This was a really good food truck. I was a little skeptical about a Mac n cheese truck however I'm so glad I tried it. You can choose your sauce, choose your protein and choose your veggies. I ordered the fleetwood with grilled chicken, cheddar cheese and grilled veggies (onion, mushrooms, and peppers). I was surprised with how much food actually fit into the box. I barely finished half of my portion. Everything was so good. I loved that it didn't take long to prepare. The wait was just a few minutes per bowl. They had a nice routine down and kept the line moving. I definitely hope they come back to my Job for lunch again soon. read more

This place looked and sounded great even though there were a few poor reviews. I decided to try it and I'm glad I did! You won't be disappointed. The portions were large and the price is right. They must have improved since the other reviews because I did not see any of those problems at all. I chose Korean pork, chose my sauce and 3 veggies. Update So I returned to Return of the Mac and it was much better this time! Either I went on a bad day (everyone has them) or they made some changes. Regardless, it was much, much better. The portions were much bigger than I remember and the Mac was much cheesier - last time I went, it the cheese looked like it was from a powder, but now it was really creamy with excellent flavor (I had the $9 bowl with cheddar, pork and veggies) The pork was also tender and flavorful. Actually, it wasn't even that good for a $3 side dish at a dive bar. So weird. But totally diggin' it! I've heard about this food truck for a little while but never had a chance to find out where they were holding events. I finally found it today at the VCU Broad Street Mile Race. First of all, it's weird. The truck is black- unexpected since usually food trucks try to stand out. I Well, I guess they stood out in black because they are the only black truck I've seen so far. Second, the name is weird. The return of the mac? What the heck does that even mean? I didn't understand it at first and could only think of "The Return of the Mack". Third, the menu is weird. They were saying things like "noodle" and "sauce". What? Fourth, the prices are high for a bowl- $9.00. Okay, so why did I get food from this weird place and why am I reviewing this weird place? Cause it is pretty decent food. It's a frikkin bowl of mac and cheese with frikkin awesome meat and lots and lots of toppings. Who doesn't like a bowl of mac and cheese??? Well, to be fair, I got the red sauce this time, but that doesn't mean I don't like a bowl of mac and cheese. I love that Richmond is taking what we know and attempting to delve into the previously unexplored areas of fusion foods. Creativity is making a come back and I'm happy to be the guinea pig. I ordered a Fleetwood which means you can get noodles, sauce, 1 meat, and up to 3 veggies. I got elbows over bowties, red sauce over cheddar and gouda, PULLED KOREAN PORK (but I'm not biased), jalapeno toppers, mushrooms, and picked sweet peppers (he forgot my sweet pickled peppers). I squirted some WTF sauce in a cup and I took a forkful of my bowls sans sauce. The jalapenos are currently burning my mouth. But this is so dang good. I haven't gotten up the courage to try the WTF sauce yet... it's supposed to stand for Wild-something-fire. THAT sounds scarier than Hallowscream. I want to try this place again, the combo is SO. WEIRD. but really pretty decent. I am so confused. I don't understand it. So I need to go again. :) If only their prices are a little more cheaper. But it IS a food truck. And they DO give you a ton of food. read more

Tried this truck out at Strangeways brewery. Waited in line for a while to try some Mac and Cheese dishes. I had high hopes for the food but in the end was left pretty disappointed. The line and the orders seemed to move pretty slow. Didn't think it took so long to make Mac and cheese but if the food is good I wouldn't mind a wait. I tried the fleetwood Mac which was $9 for a bowl, with choice of meat and 3 veggies. My girlfriend got the chicken tender and fries, also $9. We waited a while for the food and when it came out the fries and chicken tender were only mildly warm. My portion size for the Mac and cheese bowl was very disappointing for $9. I got sausage as my meat, which they put only about half of a sausage link on the bowl and a few pieces of veggies. Poor value for $9. In the end I think most sit down restaurants that serve the same type food have a cheaper price, better portions, and most importantly better taste. I think I'll skip this food truck next time. read more

It's was disgusting I had the lobster Mac It literally was just Cavatappi noodles and over seasoned lobster It was so salty as soon as it touched my mouth it was coming right back up there was no cheese it's was just awful I would never order here again read more

I've never had mac-n-cheese like this. Bed of rotini pasta, covered in melted Gouda, topped with beef brisket, mushrooms, and jalapenos. Delicious! So much food, it will be at least two meals, and maybe a third. Good price, especially since I didn't have to drive. Wonderful food. Can't wait until they come back. read more

I LOVE Return of the Mac! I've been meaning to try this truck for a while and finally got the opportunity this past weekend and Bark and Brew fest at Strangeways. I decided to go all out and try the Mac Daddy. This thing was HUGE and definitely worth the price. I usually go to two or three different trucks, but this was enough for me and my friend! The perfect meal to pair with a cold beer on a warm Sunday afternoon. The guys behind the window were really nice and I enjoyed talking to them about some of the festivals and events they are headed to this summer. I would definitely recommend trying it out if you see them around this summer! read more

There's definitely potential for this truck and perhaps I had a one off experience...I ordered loaded fries and they were very over-salted freezer fries. On top of that, the guy making the food was full-on chewing out the girl taking orders. I was fifth in line and watching everyone's uncomfortable reactions, it made the experience miserable. read more

We had this last night at James River Cellars winery during their Friday nights on the patio event. We ordered the Fleetwood with fries, gouda, onions, peppers, and Korean BBQ. It was really tasty! I was very pleased with our shared order. There was a mix-up and at one point we were given what we thought was additional fries as the closing time neared. As it turned out, it was an entire entree dish ( in the taco bowl) of someone else's order, which we realized as they were wondering where their food was and then interacting with the stuff. However I would comment that the staff seemed genuinely apologetic to them (not much I could do here? someone gave me cheesy fries and I started eating them!) and I hope everything went well in the rest of their dealings. We did get a chance, thus, to try a second dish and it was also very good. I will order from this truck again if I run into them in the future. read more

Return of the Mac is basically loaded Mac and cheese. Really great concept! You get a bowl of Mac and cheese with a choice of cheese sauce, meat, and veggies. The food itself was pretty good, but definitely go for the Fleetwood (the standard option), instead of the Macdaddy. The only difference is the Macdaddy is served in a tortilla bowl, and to be honest, it wasn't really worth the extra $5. read more

The concept is great but the food could have been executed better especially for the price. The menu looks good but the items can seem a little misleading. They serve the creamy mac and cheese style and their sauce tasted good and didn't have a roux after taste like some sauces do. Unfortunetly, there wasn't enough sauce to go with the rest of the ingredients of the dish. I ordered the Fleetwood which comes with veggies and protein. I got the grilled onions with spicey sausage... The "grilled" and not "sauteed" onions were too crispy and thick which overpowered the dish, and the spicey sausage which was diced up links were dry and overcooked. Overall, maybe I'll try them again but I would ask specific questions to get a better picture of what they really put in their dish. read more

These guys were at Hardywood one Thursday afternoon and I decided to give them a try. Who doesn't love Mac n cheese? So I get to the window and realize it's far more than that. You can order a bowl of Mac with pulled pork and vegetables and all sorts of options (including gluten-free, shout out celiac a/trendy eaters). So, as I'm browsing the options I see some dishes come out that look almost overwhelming, but delicious. It's my turn and the girl at the window suggests what they call "Mac Balls". Basically, it's fried mac n cheese(win-win). She tells me they are a house recipe, hand made and I get 3 of them topped with my choice of cheese. Then I get to choose sweet or spicy. So I pick Gouda and sweet. I stood by off to the side waiting for my order which took about as long as you would expect for a food truck. The window opened and my name was called. Delish, seriously.
