Came across this food truck at RVA Big Market. Nice to find a food truck offering gluten free crepes (savory uses buckwheat batter (gf) which you can request for sweet crepes too if you need gf). I tried the ham and cheese crepe. It was decently good and came with a small side salad. Everyone working in the truck was very pleasant. Service is slow though. There was also a mixup of orders due to similarities in customer names - if the owner reads this I recommend to going off order numbers instead of customer names to ensure people get the right orders in a busy environment. read more

Seevice is always so friendly here. I keep coming back for their seasonal flavors. By far the winter crepe "Let it Snow" has been the best. Pomegranate seeds and ricotta filling are just For St Patrick's day they had a great irish cream and ricotta filled crepe with chocolate and green sprinkles. It also came with the option to use chocolate batter. I had this right before my ultimate frisbee game and thought it might nit be the best form if carbo loading but it tasted great and I felt great in the field. I also had these special potatoes they had, I forget what they were called and I devoured them before I could get a picture but I'd describe it as a lighter mashed potato with good potato chunks. They were amazing. I waited too long to eat them and they got cold but they were still great. If they still have them next week I might grab more just to have them warm. This was a great breakkie but I'd still say the Let it Snow is better. Bonus points for the potatoes though. read more

I'll preface this with my friends got the savory crepes and thought they were great! The size of the crepes is also pretty big so it definitely works for lunch or a big/shared dessert. My friend and I tried the strawberry sunrise (strawberries with banana cream) and the Naturelle (cinnamon, sugar, added lemon juice & almonds). Both were a bit underwhelming. The 'cream' in the sunrise was just mashed bananas, and then cut strawberries on top. It wasn't very flavorful and most of the crepe was empty. The naturelle was very plain, but there wasn't enough cinnamon or sugar to taste. Also felt like it was missing some kind of filling. I'd try it again for savory crepes, or maybe other sweet flavors. read more

Decided to try Monique's today in Ashland, wanted something simple just to get a taste of how to compare to other crepes I've eaten. I ordered a cinnamon, sugar and butter crepe assuming it would be full of those flavors... it was overcooked on the outside and kind of gooey inside as if not cooked. I am not sure how that happens since they are so thin. There was a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar on top but nothing inside, it was flavorless. read more

I had the Pearfect Galette with salty prosciutto, provolone, sweet pears, and pecans (savory), and though stuffed, had to try a sweet Dreamy Creamy featuring a whipped cream cheese and ricotta filling, fresh blackberries, and a chocolate couli drizzle. I could have eaten the filling by itself- super creamy with a hint of lemon. Both were fantastic and I would highly recommend (and would eat again)! Also- gluten free, which is a must for me and a pleasant surprise that I could could order from this truck. With the situation in the world right now, I almost hate to leave a negative review but this one was earned. To outline my experience... Since the stay at home order, my neighborhood has been scheduling different food trucks to provide a bit of variety for all of us. When we saw this truck we thought it may be a nice experience. After looking at the menu online we decided on a couple of different dessert crepes. We walked over to the truck to order in person and were told they only take orders online and that if we placed one our order it would be ready in about 20 minutes. They added that they would send an email back letting us know when our order was ready. This seemed absolutely reasonable so we went forward with the online order and returned to our house. 20 minutes later and no notification, 25 minutes later no notification... 45 minutes later -NO NOTIFICATION. At this point we decided to walk back over to check on the status of our order only to be told that they received a lot of orders and ours was currently 3rd in line. Ok, it's just crepes... thin pancakes, kind of... 3rd in line... thinking maybe 10 minutes or so. Nope, another 45 minutes go by until we finally get the notification to come pick up our order. As if it were not bad enough with the wait already, when we arrive I was told that they had to make a substitute on one of the crepes due to running out of the item included in the description on their menu. They did not ask, they did not wait, they just did it. Not like I had much of a choice at that point and I accepted it. Figured I would give it a chance. We get home and pop open the boxes and they all smell great, they all look great...a bit overcooked, just before the burnt point, not tan but more of a dark brown. They were about a quarter of an inch thick ( more of a pancake than a crepe). The flavor was a bit bitter, not a hint of sweetness to counter the flavor profile of the flours they use. I tried to get further through the crepe thinking it may just be the one area or that the addition of the sauces in heavier parts may cover or blend and there would be a fusion which made it right. Couldn't find it!!! After spending over 6 years of my life in Europe, I have never tasted a crepe this bitter and never came across one this thick. I know the food industry is struggling right now so I wish them the best of luck, but I will not be a returning customer. read more

Yes, I am now a fan. I ordered the crepe with lemon and whipped cream. It was so tasty and light. Just the right amount of sweetness for what I was craving. The utensils provided were ecologically conscious too, which was nice to see here in Richmond! I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and while that is common place there, I do not often see that here. I enjoyed my savory galette! Which I guess is their savory crepe! I stopped by a few weeks ago on a random Tuesday, where there were a bunch of other food trucks out on Governor St. I wasn't itching for something sweet, so I settled on something savory. I liked the selection of savory crepes/galettes! They had a egg/sausage one, a veggie one, a pizza one...they seemed to have a decent selection of combinations! I got the "Obrigado", which had chorizo, sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms, with Manchego cheese. Loved every bit of it! The dough was thin, had a nice chew, and the meat and veggies were cooked perfectly. There was a mixed green salad that was served with it, which tasted very refreshing from the lemon-y dressing it was topped with. It complimented the galette very well. Not only that, but the girl who took my order was super nice and smiley, which was a pleasure! I might try a sweet crepe in the future [I see from the reviews that they are just okay], but I'm willing to give it a try! I stopped by Monique's Crepes food truck while I was at South of the James Market. The menu had a variety of specialty crepes. I chose the banana nutella crepe with whipped cream. The whipped cream topping was an extra 50 cent charge. The crepe came out hot off the grill .I like how the banana, nutella, and granola blended. The granola gave the crepe a nice crunch. The flavors of the chocolate (nutella) and banana really hit the spot. My crepe was cooked well with a crispy edge. The whipped cream complimented the crepe very well. Monique's Crepes food truck sells coffee as well. The service was fast. There was a table outside of the food truck, so customers can eat their crepes. I will try a different crepe on my next visit to Monique's Crepes. If you like crepes, Monique's Crepes are a good choice.I give Monique's Crepes a 3.5 rating. read more

Got two crepes from this cart tonight at the Food Truck Court at the Center for the Visual Arts. I got a Classique Citron sweet crepe as well as a savory galette. The savory one had acorn squash and local sausage, and was topped with maple syrup and nuts. It was tasty and very filling, but the sausage paired with the squash had a bit of a gamey taste to it, and for me that made it something I wouldn't necessarily get again. There were several crepes that seemed to be daily specials as they aren't listed on the website... The sweet crepe was a bit of a disappointment, just because it was nicely cooked but wasn't as buttery and flaky as I would have liked. I think it needed a little more sugar as well. Next time I'd go with the pear and goat cheese sweet crepe... I'd definitely try this cart again, and in fact it gets an extra star from me simply for ambiance. While all the other tables at the Food Truck Court were covered in tarps or not covered at all, the table in front of this cart had a lovely table cloth and a vase of flowers. SO NICE. read more

I'm a fan of a good crepe! I was happy to see Monique's at the south of the James farmers market and it smelled delicious, so my mom, sister and I decided to get a snack while we walked. There was no line, and we placed our orders quickly. We ordered 2 crepes, a classic citron which was lemon with sugar and cinnamon and a vraiment vert, which was lime and sugar. It took a considerable amount of time to get the crepes in my opinion- which was almost 10 minutes. It was surprising, because these were both simple and quick to make, as well as it not being very busy. I don't mind waiting for something special- but the crepes ended up being nothing amazing. The crepes themselves were well done, crispy edges and soft, pliable middles. But the seasoning-in both the crepe and the featured flavors lacked interest and were sparse- making it like we were eating naked crepes- when in fact they were topped. Even the addition of salt in either the batter or the sweet toppings would have been welcome. Bottom line- the silly barrettes the workers wore added to the basic fare made It just ok. Its dangerous to heavily incorporate "theme" if you're not going to back it up with quality (though, if someone served me mexican wearing a sombrero i'd throw them shade too) I'd try them again- but I wouldn't expect to be blown away. read more

First impression was definitely a lasting one! Very disappointed! I can't review the food because I didn't get any. This food truck came to my job & I was excited to try one of the dessert crepes. I got to the truck early (1140a) to place my order-truck opened after 1130....the woman at the window advised there would be a wait (no problem here) so I paid & gave my number to be texted when my order was ready! The woman advised it would be 20-30 mins wait. I happened to look at the clock & realized its was 12:41 & still no text so I figured I would just go down & check. I arrive to inquire about my order only to be told they SOLD OUT! Her response was "I was just about to text you to let you know we ran out earlier) if you ran out of an item why would you allow me to wait over an hour &'let me come back to check if you had already run out?! The woman making the crepes apologized & but it's just the manner in which this was handled! Poor impression upon the first encounter. This is my second visit to Monique's Crêpes food truck. Both times I've been pleasantly welcomed and received delicious crêpes. I found the experience very positive. Ordering was quick and simple. My crêpe was ready in just a few minutes and nicely presented with a small side-salad of mixed greens with dressing. I have to update my initial review in March 2020. I initially felt that this was a great food truck but unfortunately, over the past year, I no longer feel the same. I have coordinated food trucks for my neighborhood since the start of the pandemic (March 2020). This truck has increasingly been more difficult to deal with and schedule. Most recently, I reached out on January 8th to schedule them for brunch service in my neighborhood on Feb 28th (tomorrow); date we both agreed on. I sent an email today to confirm everything (get an updated menu, confirm the time, provide my contact info, get the online link, etc.) and I shortly received a phone call telling me that she double booked us and she couldn't make our scheduled service. This was very disappointing to my neighbors, who were looking forward to them coming, and to me, volunteering my time and efforts to coordinate regular trucks on top of my full time career for my community. So unprofessional, disorganized and disappointing. read more

Not the best crepe I have had, it was overcooked and really brown. The lemon ricotta mixture inside was just okay. The chocolate they drizzle over everything just over powered all the other flavors. Might give them one more shot to get it right. But wont go out of my way for it. read more

This place...can't say enough good things. First experience was today at Maymont's Herbs Galore and More. The food was FRESH and delicious. They were well stocked to make it through the day, and had a lot of options and diversity in menu...both savory and sweet. And I have to say, customer service goes a long way. The staff was courteous and quick...and they were slammed! The woman running the counter was efficient, and politely warned everyone before shouting names loudly over other customers. She never lost track of what she was doing. I will definitely frequent this place again for all of the reasons above! read more
