So incredibly disappointing brunch today! For $230 spent on 4 people (and no we didn't drink tons of alcohol-maybe we should have), we received 4 breakfasts that can be beat by almost anywhere else in Rochester. Our fried eggs were not cooked right, our potatoes were hard and lukewarm, our toasts were burnt lots of black char, our waffles tasted and looked like the little round ones you buy at Costco in cellophane and just warm up only they weren't warm when they got to the table, the fried chicken pieces were also clearly premade, although a little elevated, chicken tenders, the pulled pork was ok. Our 1 mimosa and 1 Bloody Mary were far from good. Brunch menu is super limited too. No salt, no pepper, no butter or other condiments served with meal. We had to ask for it all. This place is just not what it use to be. Waitress was very nice though. Unfortunately, you can a better brunch and better drinks at many other places for less money. It's sad bc I use to love this place. I use to have client dinners here too and the last dinner I had here was also very underwhelming for many similar reasons. Wow, an absolutely perfect meal. I cannot recommend dining at The Revelry enough! My dad and I came here for a celebratory dinner, and every course was exceptional. We started with a bottle of the Carmel Road Pinot Noir, and the wine was the most enjoyable red that I have ever tasted. Personally, I am not the biggest wine person, nor do I know much about matching with foods, so take this with a grain of salt, but I would highly suggest this wine to people who are interested in getting more into reds, like myself. The Carmel Road wasn't very dry and definitely had a sweet streak; however, I certainly would not classify this as a super sweet wine. For an appetizer, I tried one of each of the oysters they currently had at the raw bar: British Columbia, Rhode Island, and Maine, as well as the chilled lobster tail. The lobster was juicy, and the Old Bay-spiced butter was delicious; you can never go wrong with lobster. The oysters were nicely chilled and sufficiently meaty. They were so good that I ordered an additional quartet of the East coast oysters. The raw bar had run out of the RI oysters at this time and had begun serving oysters from Prince Edward Island, and I am happy to say that the PEI oysters were probably even better than their predecessors. Definitely the place to come for an excellent raw bar. For our entrees, my father ordered the Alaskan Halibut, and it was phenomenal. The only fish that have even come close to this delicious were swordfish, Chilean sea bass, and grouper. An absolute must-have for anyone that enjoys fish, especially if you are a huge swordfish fan. With that being said, my entree was also fantastic and comes highly recommended: massive seared scallops in a thick buttery broth with diced squash, dark potatoes, and littleneck clams. I don't think I've ever name-dropped my waiter before, but our server, Nate, was stupendous: gave us time with menu, did not overly check up, struck up solid conversation, validated our wine selection, never once made us feel rushed, and brought out a complimentary birthday dessert (the special: Apple mousse with custard that was topped with a nut tart - don't even bother ordering another dessert). I haven't been to the Revelry for years. I remembered it to be a great place for drinks and a good meal. Both were sort of still true today. The service was fantastic, which made the experience great - even though the food was a slight disappointment. My brother and I decided on the special, which was a full rack of ribs. The presentation of the food was nice and the sides which include corn bread and potatoes went well with the main course. The only issue was the actual main course. The ribs were overdone. The bbq sauce was decent and at first masked the fact that the ribs were severely overdone. Again, a disappointment, but the drinks were good and the excellent service made up for the less than stellar culinary experience. We'll likely be back, but only for drinks. read more

I think my only complaint is the portions are somewhat small for the expensive price. Since Rochester is so rich with similarly styled restaurants, I think this puts The Revelry at a disadvantage! Had dinner with our friends on Thursday night.. we ate on the second floor and had a lovely server. We hadn't seen the couple we came with in a few years so we had to catch up.. the staff let us be but was attentive and friendly.. the wings were a good appetizer but asked for the Revelry Hot Sauce for the, real messy.. burger was good concomitants were will portioned and it was cool to order. The Revelry is definitely a cool spot as far as location & decor goes. I like the lofty feel upstairs as well as the trendy vibe of the downstairs bar area. You are always able to get seated right away and the service is impeccable. The reason this is 3 stars however is the taste of the food for the price isn't what I would expect. I ordered a fried chicken dish and the chicken was cooked pretty well, but there was no sauce and there was a lot to be desired in the flavor department. I made reservations for this place because I came here for my graduation dinner. It was my first time here. It was a really great experience. The ambience of the restaurant was southern and put together beautifully. The service was really great even though the place was super busy at the time. For three people, we ordered the seafood tower in platter portion, the bigger portion of gumbo, crab croquettes, brussel sprouts, and a crème brulee. That was way enough for the three of us and we even had leftovers. Below is what I thought about each dish: The seafood tower was one of the standouts of our meal. It included oysters, shrimp, snow crabs, and a lobster tail. Everything was really fresh, and truly delicious. It came with three sauces which is great for someone like me who likes sauces. The crab croquettes were another highlight. It was fried just the right amount, and the crab was really fresh. I also enjoyed the sauce on top of the croquette with seasoning on the bottom of the plate. It all paired well together. The brussel sprouts were really great, as well. I could be partial because I love brussel sprouts but they were perfectly roasted, and the flavors were wonderful. It also included some carrot pieces and sausages in the dish. The gumbo was probably the most disappointing of the meal. It was good but for someone who has been to the south before and had real gumbo, it was not as flavorful as I have had. In essence, it tasted like creamy tomato sauce with rice. I also wish there was more okra in the dish. The one positive was that a lot of shrimp was included in the dish. For drinks, Mr. Mule and the East Ender were both ordered and they were both delicious. Mr. Mule was a Moscow mule and the East Ender was similar to a mojito. They offer a wide variety of drink choices and the bartenders know exactly what they're doing! Yum! Last, it was also my sister's birthday so we ordered the crème brulee. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 simply because our server was very good and attentive. There was nothing else about my experience that was deserving of a good review. The music was so loud as we entered for our 11am brunch that we couldn't even hear the hostess when she was speaking to us. My huevos rancheros dish was not served hot and the taste was just bland and flavorless. There was nothing on the table to season with. No salt. No pepper. My companion asked what he might substitute for the fries that would come with his burger. He was told nothing. But he could add a side (and pay). A few pieces of lettuce they could call a small salad would have been nice. And THEN - and honestly I could have gone away quietly, and not left this negative review - but 1/2way through our brunch, I was hit in the back with a table that was being moved through the dining room. No one apologized or even acknowledged the invasion. Wow! Bad tasteless food. Violated personal space. Pretentious substitution policy. I will never return. read more

The highlight was the friendly hostess who accommodated our late arrival and allowed us an opportunity to order a cocktail at the bar first, easing our way into the evening. Cocktails are pricey but yummy! The rest of the evening was subpar, especially considering the pricing. Our waitress was friendly and slow. No bread service and small portions unappetizingly presented. Dinner was late and cold. Food was tasty but presented like leftovers. We were starved by the time the food arrived. Daughter treats dad to brunch :) Been dying to try chicken and waffles for the longest time. The Revelry did not disappoint. Boneless breast chicken perfectly cooked with homemade waffles and quality maple syrup. I'm glad I finally tried this. Fun and delicious! Can't remember what her dish was called but I tried some and it was tasty. We also had the deviled eggs (pretty sure every other table ordered them too lol) and cornbread for appetizers. Both were good but the cornbread was a definite standout. Service was right on. Have been to Revelry several times at night for drinks and the bar atmosphere is inimitable. Another Great restaurant in Rochester! The Revelry is definitely a great place to check out, especially for those special occasion. We had a wonderful dining experience, it wasn't busy at all (reservation was made for 5PM on a Friday). The Revelry is one of the very few restaurants in Rochester with a great decor and the unbeatable ambiance. Presentation is everything, the foods was great, the service was great! They even gave us free glass cups (1st we asked if we could buy it). Even the atmosphere outside was fantastic, they have an outdoor patio, lots of table available. Prefect place to eat during the summer. Some people did eat in the wine cellar, which can be seen from the glass floor. The bar is always busy and loud, so I'm glad we ate upstair. Also the bathroom is downstair. Price: In Rochester it's consider expensive ($40-$60 per-person), if you're eating here for a special occasion then it's worth every penny. Wow. The Revelry is a restaurant masterpiece in Rochester. In my 10+ years of living here, I don't think I've often encountered food as good as what I had here one Sunday evening. Every last piece of food was cooked masterfully, priced extremely well, and showcased the chef's creativity. This caliber of cookery is something I would never expect to find in Rochester of all places, and I'm still blown away knowing that it exists here. It is the crème de la crème, the culinary pièce de résistance, and a true triumph for the city. So why 4/5 stars? Ironically, it's *because* of the creativity. Despite everything being cooked within a nanometer of perfection, the pairing in my entree just did not make sense. My friend and I ordered off of their new special Sunday Mexican menu (since the chef has Texan heritage I'm told) and I had the duck leg confit that came with a sweet potato-corn tamale on a base of mole sauce scattered with braised sweet-and-tart huckleberries. Here's the problem - although each and every element was amazing on its own (the duck literally fell off the bone as I picked it up - it was to die for.), it didn't work together at all. Savory duck works with the tart huckleberry, but does not go with rich, smoky, spicy, and intense mole sauce. The sweet potato-corn tamale on the other hand goes tremendously well with the sauce, but doesn't pair at all with the duck. So even though every protein, starch, and fat was perfect by itself - they were not perfect together. It was like a prearranged marriage of two amazing people that couldn't stand in the same spotlight together. Too much personality on one plate that just didn't mesh. But really besides that, it was seriously some of the most sumptuous food I've ever had in Rochester. And without a doubt, the best churros I've ever had. A great vintage Southern restaurant that tows the line between "New American" and gastropub. It's all the rage now to have menus printed in old fashioned block font and to offer cocktails and food that pay homage to "classic" renditions of old comfort favorites. The Revelry fits right in with this nationwide revolution, and I have to say its execution impressed me quite a bit. This place is modern vintage without the frills. The entryway with the glass floor and wine cellar on display is dramatic. And the bar is dramatic too -- huge ornate vintage chandelier, large windows with lots of light and room for everyone around it. Beware, it gets packed. And the people at it are who you'd expect: the self-designated trendsetters of the Greater Rochester Area. ;) The dining room is upstairs and its minimalism is in stark contrast to downstairs. Once the sun sets and the tealights start twinkling, it gains some character. We sat down and I ordered an old-fashioned. When the glass was put down in front of me and there was ONE huge ice cube in the middle, I got excited. They got the ice right! The old-fashioned was terrific, although on the sweeter side for me. I prefer mine more bitter...but I'm sure had I been downstairs, this could've been tweaked. The ingredients were quality and blended well. $10 though. These cocktail bars in Rochester keep upping the ante on these drinks! The cornbread appetizer looked fabulous in its skillet and had an interesting flavor, but I did feel it lacked both moisture and sweetness. The jalapenos added an awesome kick, but something about the dish needed to be elevated. The pork belly sliders (2 in one order) were far more delicious than they appeared at first glance. The pork was ridiculously tender (not an easy feat for pork belly) and the buns were toasted on the inside, allowing you that perfect toasted crunch just before you reach the slush of pork belly. The duck entree was cooked slightly more than medium rare, but still retained juiciness and great flavor. The accompanying cheese grits and cranberry created opposing textures and flavors around the duck that were interesting. The bourbon pecan pie was clearly house-made -- delicious! In all, it was a great meal and the service was outstanding, but the value was lacking. I'm willing to pay for great food, but considering how casual the place is, the size of the portions and the cost of living in the area, I thought it was expensive. The atmosphere here is unbeatable! Beautifully decorated and lots of outdoor seating. I also absolutely love the view down to the wine cellar when you first walk in -- it's a complete guest pleaser. I treated my parents to dinner here when they visited Rochester for the first time, and they couldn't stop looking down at all the wines. The Revelry has daily specials, depending on the day of the week. I went on Thursday, and the special was steak + a choice of scotch or wine for $25. My dad tried this and was really happy with his choice. I had a really difficult time deciding what to order (look at their menu and you'll understand why. )... I finally settled on the Butcher's Cut Veal Chop, and it was heavenly -- so tender and flavorful. I also got to try the roasted squab, buffalo style frogs legs, and carrot cake. In terms of cocktails, I tried the pineapple express and the east ender (the latter, yes!). Everything was excellent. Lots of places are hit or miss depending on what you order, but even though I didn't get to try everything (yet :P), I feel reasonably confident that this place is all around strong! I'm a relatively open-minded fan of almost any cocktail you can dream up, and I'm never disappointed in my drinks at the Revelry. We tend to try to visit when there's not going to be a huge crowd, and it's great for meeting friends or chatting with the friendly bartenders. There's nothing that goes better with The Revelry's drinks than their fries, either, you guys. Get some fries. read more

I have been meaning to go to the Revelry for a long time. It just never worked out because I never learned my lesson of needing to make a reservation when I want a table on a Friday, at prime time. It took a couple of tries and needless to say, I'm happy I finally made that reservation. My expectations were high and they weren't fully met, but that doesn't take away from how great our meal was. We were seated in the smaller room upstairs. I don't know if it was just that room, or if the entire restaurant is this noisy, but we were struggling to hear our server and each other the entire night. Not to mention, the music from downstairs is mumbled upstairs so all we heard was a thumping baseline that didn't help matters. There also seemed to be much confusion over who our server would be, as we were visited by three servers all asking us what they could start us on. Aside from all of that, the food turned the night around. We started with oysters from both coasts. All were extremely fresh and started our meal off nicely. We then turned to their appetizer special for the night - the fried green tomatoes. These didn't have the crab on them, but rather what seemed to be a cheese spread, topped with prosciutto. They were crispy, firm, flavorful and everything fried green tomatoes should be. I chose to go for their fried chicken dish, while my boyfriend opted for their hanger steak. While he didn't really appreciate his steak all that much, we both loved the chicken and I didn't mind sharing. It is a HUGE plate and definitely a portion for two. It comes with collard greens and mashed potatoes - both of which complemented the chicken well. I think the best part of the chicken was the 'SriRancha' sauce it was served with. SO GOOD. So all in all, the Revelry does dinner well. My next meal here will probably be at a less busy time. Although, based off of all the brunch reviews I've seen, that's also a must. read more

It's dinner time and the family is in the mood to eat out. After a few suggestions from everyone, we all finally agreed to on trying The Revelry. It's a Friday evening and the bar is a buzz, the seating area is pretty small. I didn't care to eat so close to the bar, and to my surprise we are directed to upstairs. A fairly nice size seating area that I didn't know they had. We started off with the cheese biscuits (5) per basket. I have to say, these biscuits will cause you to slap yo momma. If your momma ain't around, you have to ask someone else if you can slap their momma. These biscuits are that good. Three of use ordered the burgers. I am very picky when it comes to burgers, I don't care for burgers, from a fast food place. The Revelry burger was absolutely delicious. Nice amount of cheese, soft chewy bun and the onions along with the sauce was a great compliment. My wife ordered the salmon, and she enjoyed her dish as well. She mentioned how she liked how the fish had a nice crispy top and it was cook to her likings. The drinks we had was good, but I felt they are light on the alcohol level. I was impressed as soon as I walked in the door today. The staff was extremely charming and attentive, from the hostess to the bartenders/barbacks. The owner himself was greeting everyone. Our bartender was very helpful with drink and food recommendations, even remembering customer names and carrying on insightful conversations about food pairings. All of the cocktails are made with special garnishes and daily fresh squeezed juices. It is clear that the owner and staff take pride in doing things the correct way, and they train the staff to give their cocktails a little something 'extra'. The food was delicious, small portions but great quality. I ordered the beet and chèvre salad, and the Oxford cocktail. Very nice presentation. My friend ordered the fried green tomatoes and was very pleased with the ensemble. The décor was elegant, modern and the place has a fresh new smell in the air. The Revelry is a very popular night spot. They have beautifully crafted drinks, and rather expensive food. We went there with some friends Wednesday night to try something new and celebrate a friend's birthday. The place was packed and we didn't make reservations because my friend thought they may have less people on a Wednesday night (mistake) and we weren't sure how many people would show up. The place is beautifully designed, and was very crowded and loud. We ordered our first round of drinks and had a great time, until it was time for our second round of drinks. IDK why, but we were ignored by the bartender all night, it took him about 1 hour to get back to us. By then I was too pissed off to really enjoy the drink, and frankly turned off by the whole experience. We had made plans on ordering some appetizers and staying there for the night, but because we couldn't get much attention there, we ended up going somewhere else. The thing is, nowadays Rochester has a few spaces with great drinks, and food, and ambiance. And I know that because the place is new, everyone wants to go there. But the time they took at the bar was too long, they need to figure out the whole serving process. I may go again to try the food, but it won't be for a while read more

Finically gave this place a go after a year of wanting to try and was so happy to find a great little stop with wonderful options. Their cocktails are well balanced and packed with fresh flavor! My favorite is their Guava God which wasn't too sweet and had a delightful aroma. I ordered their biscuits as an appetizer because why the hell not and you NEVER see gourmet biscuits on a menu. Ive wound up here once for lunch on a weekday, once for sunday brunch and several times for evening drinks. Definitely am ambivalent overall about it. It's trendy, cool, the space is nice and it has some haute cuisine that fills a niche in the city and seems to be well run. But I'm just not crazy about it...try to come here for drinks on a friday/saturday night and wind up with a scratchy throat next day from having to scream to talk to people cuz of the noise..very crowded so finding a spot to stand let alone sit can be a sport. The lunch I had here was a while ago, and blah. They dont do the cornmeal crusted shrimp well, and the biscuits were stale, although they tasted better during brunch..not worth $7. We went with the chicken and waffles and the hot turkey brown based on our servers recommendation. The turkey dish had some great flavor profile, but was visually unappetizing being smothered in white sauce ..did not work well as an open faced sandwich. The chicken and waffles are decent, but not worth $14. If you come here for sunday brunch, you should be safe and make a reservation, especially if it's a nice day out. We went on Sunday evening to celebrate our anniversary and when my husband made the reservation he mentioned that. When we arrived and checked in the host wished us a happy anniversary which was a nice touch. Moments later our server, Rachel, came to our table and wished us a happy anniversary as well and when we were leaving wished us well again. All of which made the night more special. The menu is limited on Sunday night which was a little disappointing but there were a couple specials that added to the variety. The food was excellent we enjoyed each course in turn. The drinks were also unique and very good. At the end of the meal we shared a desert that came with a celebratory candle...again, a thoughtful touch. Overpriced wine and food, meh service. Had to ask 4 times for plain bread before I got grilled, over buttered crostini. Of course, they charged for that. Plus, there is now a "service charge" for the table to offset use of a credit card even though it is applied onto the final bill before the bill is presented. Loud. I had high expectations for The Revelry and they were definitely met during my first visit. First off, the space is beautiful. You walk in and immediately have a view of their wine cellar through a portion of the floor that is all glass. I thought it was such a cool idea. On to the food and drinks....I started off with The Vega as my cocktail. It was a mixture of vodka, St. Germain liqueur, fresh berry puree, lemon, and mint. I am no mixology expert, but I thought it was missing something. Perhaps a little more vodka would have done it. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. Next, I had the harvest salad, which was plated beautifully. I can honestly say this may have been one of the the best salads I have ever had. The maple balsamic really stood out to me. For my entree, I had the halibut. I basically live off of fish and usually get it every time I dine out. Because of this, I can be critical of how my fish is prepared. The Revelry cooked the halibut perfectly, so I was a happy camper. One pet peeve I have about the place (along with many other places in Rochester) is the prices. Come on now, this is not Manhattan!!! Luckily for them, I'm willing to pay the price for a great dining experience in Rochester. read more

Had dinner at the Revelry for Valentine's Day. Absolutely love the ambiance at this restaurant....dim lighting, candle-lit tables and great music. The service was great. Had appetizers, buttermilk biscuits (w/the orange ginger honey butter) and beer Mac&cheese. The Mac &cheese was amazing!!! One of the best mac&cheeses I've had!! For dinner ordered the Glazed Salmon which was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious!!! Definitely recommend and will be returning for dinner soon. read more

The cocktails and food at The Revelry are flat out the best in the city. I don't know what they do to make those cocktails taste as good as they do but they are sincerely amazing. The atmosphere is very chic, it makes me feel like a celebrity when I'm there. The food is outstanding, every detail is perfect. I highly recommend. read more

Really good variety of cocktails. The bartenders, or mixologists, surely know what they are doing. The cocktail menu changes periodically. The bartenders are really friendly, and saying that "they like to have fun" is the understatement of the season. Get these guys the right clientele and their party pants come on. They also serve these cashews/peanuts with candied bacon...I repeat, candied bacon. SO nice of them to offer such a delishiz treat at the bar. And this is one bowl of nuts I have no reservations digging into. I've dined in for brunch and had the Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was amazing and the waffles were also cooked to perfection. Only complaint is that my portion needed more maple syrup, but other than that it was a great treat. Having said that, I do not feel that the prices are just. Some of the meals my friends ordered were overpriced as well. Have been meaning to go back for brunch to try more drinks and specials. read more

I can't stop raving about this place. The architecture, the food, the amazing wait staff, the drinks! I recently was tasked with planning a night out with the guys I'm on group with in the firehouse and I was initially a little hard pressed to think of a place that would cater to all of the particular tastes and nuisances of my friends' palates. Honestly, I took a gamble on suggesting The Revelry when all but myself had yet to hear or actually try the restaurant out for themselves. Floating the digital menu around, every single one of us where able to find something that immediately sounded appealing to them in both the drink and food menu's. By the end of the evening, i'm fairly confident that between the nine of us, we had ordered AT LEAST one of everything on the menu and were completely enthralled with the whole experience! I literally can't stop raving about this place to anyone that will listen. I'll be back tomorrow! read more

Went here for brunch with a couple girlfriends on a Sunday. The atmosphere is very welcoming, we sat upstairs where it was very open and the tables aren't all squished together. Our servers name was Ted and he was very outgoing and definitely added to the experience. I had the flapjack special (pumpkin pancakes), and they were delicious. My friend had the Huevos Ranchros I tried a bite and I will definitely be getting that when I return. read more
