Ate here on Sunday, the inside of the restaurant is bright and rustic with big windows and brick walls. The staff were very friendly and on top of their game. I ordered the Build your own Hamburger with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Also ordered their O-ring basket. The burger was cooked to perfection; as for the o-rings they were the best I've had in Rochester. This restaurant is now on one of my favorite places to eat. read more

Everything was good. Nothing was great. The inside is nice, tin ceilings, lots of exposed bricks, thick wood tables, lots of sidebar space along the walls in the bar area. The bar was definitely the best part. Bar tender was on the job, bar was crowded with March Madness fans watching the TVs and she spotted us right away and asked over the heads of the people lining the bar if we needed drinks. She was really good. Ithaca Nut Brown Ale on tap gets a thumbs up. For food I got a fish fry (Friday during lent) and wifey got a burger. Both were good, but not great. Same with the chicken wings. Meh. Just meh. Didn't feel welcome at all by the female bartender Wednesday. She didn't speak to us at all and I could see her rolling her eyes multiple times and gossiping with another server. It's been a couple years since we've been here and normally this is one of our go to spots when we are in town. I like how big the bar area is and that it has booths too. I like that they also have a separate dining area. I never understood why they need security guard in there though I wasn't that hungry so I just got French onion soup but it was just cheese and bread not a lot of broth. Wings were good. Not a complaint about the service. It was timely and professional. The disappointment was with the food. We came for the Friday fish fry. The bacon wrapped shrimp was over cooked and rubbery. The clam chowder was extremely salty, to the point you couldn't eat it. The fish itself was tasteless like it had been frozen for years. I always sit at the bar, unless I'm eating with someone, but, the bartender, Tanner, is excellent. He takes care of everyone seamlessly, is very friendly, and will learn the name of regulars. The Bomber is my favorite, with provolone and a side of au Jus. This sandwich is loaded and delicious. And if there is a game you're looking to watch, Tanner will quickly get the match on one of the 11 TVs. Highly recommend. read more

I came here after The Beat concert at Kodak Theater (an offshoot of King Crimson). Kind of a local Marty McGillicuddy pub in the Browncroft/North Winton area. A lot of young folks getting pickled in the bar... Food was what you'd expect: had some loaded potato skins and a couple of beers. Kind of TGI McFunsters w a local angle. A decent option for later night food...there are many places like this in Rochester. Roc is a pretty tame food town (not particularly fringe/adventurous... ) so this place is prob very popular. read more

There is a $1.30 fee just to order take-out. Add a credit card fee on top of that. I ordered the Chicken French and it came with a soup (chicken pot pie). They forgot to pack my soup, so I had to go back to get it. The Chicken French was alright; not enough sauce so it was kind of dry. The soup on the other hand was spectacular. Stopped here with a local who is a regular. We got Rochester Reubens. They were satisfactory but probably wouldn't order again as there was no complexity in the flavors. The wine tasted bland - whether it was me or poor storage, I do not know. Maybe stick with beer. It had a pleasant atmosphere (no TVs in the dining area). It fills up fast and seems quite popular. We tried to flag people down. Our server finally came and apologized for not realizing our table was hers. Food took a very long time. Two who had salads were pleased. The 2 of us who ordered veggie burgers were disappointed. They were dry and crumbly. Fries were cold. Rolls seemed stale. We foolishly did not say anything because we had to be elsewhere. I went in for lunch a few days ago and ordered a corned beef reuben sandwich for $19 or 20. I have been going to the Winfield for 40+ years and had very few bad meals. My corned beef was dry, over cooked and not a lot of it. The waitress asked how it was and told her of my disappointment, she said I'll tell the chef. Another waitress stopped by a few minutes later and asked same question, to which same disappointing answer was given. She also said she'll tell the chef. I asked for the bill and no accommodation for the unsatisfied customer was offered. I will never return to the Winfield again as no attempt was made to try to please the customer. For reference, I just had a reuben at Timothy Patricks yesterday for $13.95 and it was awesome. read more

I would say our meal at Winfield Grill was great. We went in on a weeknight and we were met by nice servers, fast service and a fun atmosphere. They were very flexible when we had a baby and needed it add a person to our table. The food came out very hot and very quick. I love brunch. It's my favorite meal of the day. It's really an excuse to combine breakfast food with mimosas and I don't see anything wrong with that. We went over to Winfield on a Sunday at 11:30 and were surprised that we only had a 5 minute wait. Although maybe not surprising since we were a table of 2, and brunch is definitely a more social affair. My sister loves this place and was raving about the fact that every entrée came with two free mimosas. I told her that a deal like that probably meant that the entrées were higher in price than they needed to be, but I was wrong. Our total bill for two breakfast entree and two free mimosas was less than $25. My sister had the breakfast burrito which came with home fries. She gets this regularly, so she knew which side options she wanted eliminated. Since it was my first time at Winfield, I got an omelette and gladly paid the minor upcharge for egg whites and mushrooms added in. Speaking of mushrooms, I asked the waitress to double check that the mushrooms weren't soaked in a specific oil. That would be game over for me real fast. She checked, the mushrooms were delicious. Our table for 2 was small. It was definitely enough space for our needs, but they didn't seem to need another small table too urgently so we weren't rushed out. A few of us stopped here to have a snack after a disaster of a meal elsewhere. Wings and a few drinks at the bar. I had an order of garlic parm wings and their sweet potato fries which came out without any kind of honey or sugar added (which was great for me). The wings were perfectly crispy and coated well. We had such a fun time here! Our group pretty much had one whole side of the bar. Our bartender, Saunder (I'm probably spelling it wrong), was attentive and attractive! I had a couple whiskey sours with bulleit. They didn't have many other options. I wanted old forester or Elijah Craig, nope. I also tried one of their fancy cocktails, the green tea, which is a Jameson cocktail. A little too sweet for me. We had a birthday boy in the party so we ordered the peanut butter pie and the daily special which was an apple crumble. After hearing the carrot cake was really good, we ordered that too. They didn't have any candles but we sung happy bday anyways. They have a couple TVs, lots of bar seating, table seating and clean bathrooms. Parking was not an issue. Not sure how I have yet to review the Winfield, as it is my neighborhood go to and one of my favorite spots in Rochester. While the Winfield is probably more of a 4-star for consistency service and food quality, I love being there so much I have to bump it up to 5. The menu is one of this spots strongest selling points. There is something for everyone and it hits pretty much all of the staples you might be in the mood for. I LOVE the Winfield for their willingness to accommodate large groups. This is a consistent choice for post-show hangs with friends, and I am grateful to their staff for their flexibility and kindness. I've been for brunch a number of times as well, and have always had a fine experience - save the one time I had to send an eggs benny back three times because the eggs were fully cooked through...all three times. The complimentary mimosas are a major perk and the atmosphere is always tons of fun. If you haven't been to the Winfield yet, get your butt there for a drink or some grub ASAP. read more

We remember Winfield from way back in the 90s, when they had items like the Mushroom Mountain burger, the Amanda Mac, and Pasta Primavera. We remember when there was a fireplace. Sadly, some of these old charms have passed, but also some of the original charm still remains. The beautiful brick and woodwork is now complimented with a tin tile ceiling, and the outdoor seating is partially lit by impressive patio gas lamps. They still have their Pita Lookin' Good, a hybrid sandwich of their own design. And they still have dynamite Chicken French. The place is a little noisy when busy, owing to the renovations they've made. The upside to this is more space for seating and a spacious square bar area. Let it be said they can really make a mean seafood bisque, and their drinks menu is well-tended. The service is great, too. The menu has been streamlined but it still has that satisfying mix of homestyle Italian and a little gastro-pub eccentricity. Never a bad time at Winfield! This time I ordered a veggie burger with a side of nachos and fries. Can we talk about the awesomeness of that burger? So good that I finished it and realized I forgot to snap a photo of it. The nachos were pretty good; I just wish the toppings were layered throughout the hill of tortillas. Once we finished the top layer, we were faced with a lot of naked chips. The side of sour cream and salsa came to our rescue. Margarita was not bad; right amount of alcohol and marg mix. I will say each drink made will taste a bit different depending on the server. First drink was made to perfection while the second one was more on the watered down side. I had the Winfield burger and it was cooked perfectly, not a big fan of mixed greens as the top always crisp lettuce but to each his own , bun was great as well.
