Overall, this was a great stop while we were shopping in downtown. The sandwiches were full of flavor and the atmosphere was nice!

There are so many cute and cozy coffee shop/bakeries in Asheville, so it's important to know which ones are worth it! I really liked The Rhu. On a freezing day, a hot peppermint mocha was just perfect. The biscuit with mushroom gravy was SO impressive. It might have been a little expensive in my opinion, but I'd go back.

The Rhu was by far our favorite dining out experience in Asheville. We absolutely loved their breakfast menu and loved the English muffins so much that we flew them back to Connecticut with us. We since have used them to make burgers and breakfast sandwiches. Wish there was a location closer to us!!!

Sourdough English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich

Wonderful little cafe tucked off the main route of traffic in downtown. Just a skip away from Patton Ave. They have a lovely selection of bakery items, we went with the S'mores PopTart. I had the biscuit and gravy(only one needed, they are huge) The wife had the Breakfast Sandhich on the most amazing sourdough English muffin! We shared a dirty chai with an added shot, because they only serve it with 1 :( Overall, 10 out if 10!

Gluten free breakfast sandwich

This place gets busy quickly! I love that they have gluten free options. I had their Chai and a gluten free breakfast sandwich to go. The gluten free biscuit was delicious and huge! Prices are decent and service was good. Just make sure you get lots of napkins, as it can get messy if you are trying to eat in the car.

Quite possibly the perfect breakfast spot. Immaculate crusts on the pastries, including a wonderful quiche with fluffy fulling and a flaky, crispy, dry crust. Great cookie and homemade pop tart options, and coffee served fast and fresh. Get there early, downstairs seating is limited. Load up on pastry and start your day right!

Great food and greater staff! Totally forgot to check our bag for a fourth sandwich and called to see if they had it. Went back to the location and they gave me one for free. Really loved the vibes and extra seating upstairs. Definitely a cool place to stop. Try their Ube/Pineapple Pop Tart if they still have it!

Biscuits and Gravy, Scrambled Eggs, Collards

Stopped in on a tour of Asheville. Arrived at around 1pm on a brisk February Saturday, and we were able to order right away. Very quick and easy counter service, a concise and delicious menu, and incredibly friendly staff. We ordered a pastrami sandwich which came with a side salad, and the biscuits and gravy plate that included scrambled eggs and braised collard greens. Damn the flavors were fantastic in both dishes. The side salad was quite generous with numerous pickled veggies and a delicious house made dressing. They had 5 different hot sauce options which spoke to my heart in particular. The place was bright and clean and warm. Very happy with our stop and I would definitely come back!

Mushroom, gouda quiche

Great vibe in this off the beaten path bakery. The staff was super nice and helpful. They sell a lot of local items as well as their bakery goods. I popped in for lunch and they had quiche. Today was mushroom- gouda. The crust was amazing. I think the filling would have been as well but they were a little heavy handed with the salt. I could not finish the slice. The side salad was refreshing...lemon poppy dressing! Fresh greens, goat cheese, pickled red onions, and candied pecans. Really good!!

The food here was excellent. They have a unique seasonal menu with lots of local ingredients. Baked goods are displayed at the counter and they have great sandwiches and soups.

Trout bagel was great. Bagel had amazing seasoning. Got it deconstructed because of the long walk back to hotel. Yes I'm eating out of yesterday's pizza box

The Turkey Melt (half portion), no cheese, on bread. Seasonal soup: zucchini curry.

I am a sucker for a good biscuit, and since I'm gluten free, that's been very difficult to find. Enter The Rhu. I ordered the Benton's Biscuit with egg on a gluten free biscuit, and a side order of a biscuit. My wife ordered the turkey melt on a bread. We both fell in love! The biscuit was dense, flaky, buttery, and salty. The egg and ham were perfect, and the jam on my biscuit was full of flavor. The size of the biscuits is impressive, and my wife said the gluten free and regular biscuits tasted identical. We went back the next day just to get it all again! In addition, great selection of coffee and tea options, and the cashier remembered us from the day before and asked how I liked the modification they made to my tea the day before. Plenty of seating upstairs, free water, and a nice, calm atmosphere. I just wish they would deliver all the way up to Maryland so I could get my biscuit fix!

Chai latte

There was plenty of signage when we entered so we knew where to order and that there was additional seating upstairs since there wasn't a ton of options downstairs. We ordered our coffee and sandwiches then headed upstairs to grab a table. It's an open space with lots of natural light, windows, and plants. The sandwiches were incredible and the chai latte I ordered was delicious too. Everything came out in good time and there's a clearly marked busing station to return dishes.

This appeared to be a new dessert/bakery place in Asheville...and possibly Taiwanese-owned?…read more Not only beautifully inviting and spacious, with plenty of seatings, the place had awesome A/C (a perfect rest stop on a hot day!) as well. Loved their menu as well. Although their mini cakes and other treats appealed to me as well, I opted to try their Taro Shaved Ice (they had 2 other flavors as well...think Mango and Mocha?). Well, their Taro Shaved Ice was PERFECT!!! The shaved ice was nice and dry, and the toppings (Boba, Lychee jelly, and Strawberries...even whipped cream on top) were generous and delicious! LOVED the place...and I can't wait to return! My husband will absolutely loved their version of Shaved Ice...What a treat to come!

It's spacious but still manages to feel cozy and charming at the same time. The vibe is adorable and a little hard to pin down. It feels like a mix between English tea time elegance and a bit of Spanish flair. It's unique and really something you just have to experience in person. I ordered the fancy carrot cake and it was exactly what a classic carrot cake should be. The flavor profile was spot on. Not overly sweet, not bland, just perfectly balanced with that warm spiced carrot cake taste. Paired with a cortado, it made the perfect little caffeine and sweet tooth moment. A great stop if you're wandering around Asheville and want a cozy place to sit with coffee and dessert.

I liked the name so much because I was the type of person who used malaprops a good amount. It's extra charming because you're able to order something from their cafe while reading your book. This spot is deceptively huge. The different sections are very intentional and beautifully organized. I had an especially great time looking at the "Beautiful Books" section this visit. I ended up falling in love with a short stories book by Chips Hardy that I took home. I also adored their graphic t-shirts here. I am not a big t-shirt person, but always want more graphic tees, so was so excited to love this one so much. I had a really special experience with one of the booksellers here on my recent visit too. I could not find The Enchanted April in the fiction section and when I asked, one of the booksellers got really excited about the author and that book. She passionately told me how wonderful the book was. We were sad to see it was sold out, but suggested I check a bookstore a block over. I love this bookstore and think everyone should make it a stop on an Asheville trip.

It seems as though it's only open until the afternoon though, as it wasn't staffed when we were there. But there's still plenty of seating if you wanted to sit a spell. The bookstore portion is really well curated with a nice "local" section featuring local writers and interest. I love checking out this section when I travel and there was a ton to dig into here. They also have a good sized kid's section most notable thing is how many books they offer with autographed copies. That means they seem to bring in a ton of writers which is so exciting for the Asheville community. Speaking of community, I peeked at their events calendar and it looks like they have a ton of book clubs in a variety of different genres that meet regularly. So no matter your interest (romance, science fiction, mystery, horror, etc) you can find a meetup. Some are hosted in store but others in local breweries, libraries, and other third spaces in the area. Excellent offerings across the board!
