The interior is nothing to write home about but dang do they make a good sandwich. I had the 6" BLT loaded with warm bacon, lettuce, tomato, & mayo. They have a nice chip selection as well. My husband had the 6" Roast Beef and Au Ju. Lots of medical professionals were picking up take-out while we were there. This place is full of nostalgia and quality. I have been to the Black Mountain one before. Only just learned that they actually have separate ownership but there's a lot mirrored in their menus. I like this one has great parking and is in a very convenient location. Nice little walkway up to the sub shop. Upon entering one day for early dinner, I was greeted by the friendly staff. They are super kind and informative about the menu. I had called ahead to place the order and it was ready a little bit early which was nice. I always get the veggie sub because of the house made hummus. It feels healthy and filling but not to dense. Definitely fresh. After visiting the Folk Art Center, I had a craving for a good egg salad for lunch, and boy am I glad I discovered Old School Subs and Salads!! My husband and I both got the egg salad sub, but I added cheese and tomato to mine. It was DIVINE. Exactly what I hoped for, and was afraid I wouldn't get. The bread was toasted but not burnt, and the bread still maintained it's fresh and soft texture. I also requested their house made pickles on the side, and again, WOW. So glad I didn't skip them! They are different than other shops pickles, and taste something like if a bread and butter pickle and sweet gherkin pickle had a baby. It was very good, and even my husband who does not like pickles had some and said he really liked them!! Overall, the quality of all of the ingredients was amazing!! Also, it's super important to note that the staff was very friendly- all three employees checked in on us while we were there to ensure we liked our food and to see if we needed anything. Open Monday for a late lunch. During covid times. Parking is limited. Park right off the street or try and get up by the paint store. One little outside table or social distance inside. Everyone behind the counter was in gloves and masks. We wandered up and got a kind greeting from the lady behind the counter. I was struggling to decide and asked her what she had made last for herself. She started to describe the turkey with avocado but then said there was hummus and cucumber. I said I'd take it. She was so pleased I wanted her "Stacey special ". Hubby got the "OLD SCHOOL" sandwich. This thing was a monster! We picked out drinks and chips. A couple fun brands we had never tried. Delicious. Everything. We got extra pickles with our sandwiches and enjoyed every bite. The overall feeling inside was upbeat and busy. Small hole in the wall place in same building as Sherwin Williams paint store on Sweeten Creek Road. Wife and I made a point to once a week eat at a different sub place to see which one we liked best. Without hesitation we both liked Old School the best. They use Thumann's meats in all their subs and the flavor is soo much better than any other. May be the most expensive but a large sub feeds us aplenty.
