    BLT Sub
    Candi M.

The interior is nothing to write home about but dang do they make a good sandwich. I had the 6" BLT loaded with warm bacon, lettuce, tomato, & mayo. They have a nice chip selection as well. My husband had the 6" Roast Beef and Au Ju. Lots of medical professionals were picking up take-out while we were there. Nicest employees too..actually seem happy to be there and make a delicious sandwich!

Let me start by saying I used to work in a bakery sandwich shop. This place is excellent! The bread is made in house and so fresh! The ingredients are good quality and all appeared fresh too. The flavor was on point! I am excited to try their muffuletta next time I'm in too! And the staff is so friendly and nice. Place is cute, and clean, with a cozy local feel. Genuinely enjoyed the experience and food!

This place is full of nostalgia and quality. I have been to the Black Mountain one before. Only just learned that they actually have separate ownership but there's a lot mirrored in their menus. I like this one has great parking and is in a very convenient location. Nice little walkway up to the sub shop. Upon entering one day for early dinner, I was greeted by the friendly staff. They are super kind and informative about the menu. I had called ahead to place the order and it was ready a little bit early which was nice. I always get the veggie sub because of the house made hummus. It feels healthy and filling but not to dense. Definitely fresh. I've had lots of friends try their other subs and find them great as well. Just as a tip, sometimes they are on Asheville deal for half off.

    Turkey Philly Sub

Nice little shop right on the road, with super friendly staff and a laid-back small sandwich shop atmosphere. I had the turkey Philly sub, which tasted excellent, and had a little to it. My significant other had a special, the Sriracha beef sub. We'll have to go back again. The bread tasted like it was made in house, and all the ingredients were nice and fresh.

We are surprised to find this hidden gem on our way to Nashville. The sandwich has good bread, fresh tomato and lettuce, good cuts of meat. A great combination. The steak and cheese sandwich is also very meaty and juicy. Good stuff!

After visiting the Folk Art Center, I had a craving for a good egg salad for lunch, and boy am I glad I discovered Old School Subs and Salads!! My husband and I both got the egg salad sub, but I added cheese and tomato to mine. It was DIVINE. Exactly what I hoped for, and was afraid I wouldn't get. The bread was toasted but not burnt, and the bread still maintained it's fresh and soft texture. I also requested their house made pickles on the side, and again, WOW. So glad I didn't skip them! They are different than other shops pickles, and taste something like if a bread and butter pickle and sweet gherkin pickle had a baby. It was very good, and even my husband who does not like pickles had some and said he really liked them!! Overall, the quality of all of the ingredients was amazing!! Also, it's super important to note that the staff was very friendly- all three employees checked in on us while we were there to ensure we liked our food and to see if we needed anything. Highly recommend this spot for your next lunch visit if you're in the area!

    So glad they were open

Every dish was a masterpiece, bold and elegant, comforting and exciting all at once. This is vegan food that doesn't whisper or apologize--it commands the room. The flavors were layered, intentional, and downright magical. Each plate arrived like a work of art, and somehow tasted even better than it looked. I kept thinking, there is no way the next dish can top this--and yet, it always did. Plant proves, without question, that vegan cuisine can be indulgent, luxurious, and unforgettable. And then... the dessert. I am not exaggerating when I say it deserves its own standing ovation. Rich, decadent, perfectly balanced--one bite and time stopped. If happiness had a flavor, this would be it. I would return to Plant for dessert alone, without a second thought. Plant is hands-down the best vegan restaurant in Asheville. It's passion, creativity, and excellence on a plate. If you haven't eaten here yet, you're missing out on something truly special. This is the kind of place that ruins other restaurants for you--in the best possible way.

I didn't get a picture of the GEM & carrot salad, but we all agreed it was fabulous. The left side of the menu is called "small plates" so they are intended as appetizers. There are only a handful of entrees on the right side. The blondie dessert was great. $60-$100+ each at our table. I was skeptical but the food was delicious, service great, and we all enjoyed our evening at Plant.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Google calls it "American" cuisine, which is basically the one cuisine I don't do, but this place does offer some nice vegetarian options. Wanting to save some room for my food tour, I got a salad with a veggie skewer on top, but I did indulge in some lentil fritters. Fried bean paste is always a winner (technically lentils are not beans). The fritters were savory and the clash between their freshly fried texture and the cool dill-flavored dipping sauce and mixed pickled vegetables was quite robust. My salad delivered the promised crunch, and the shiitake shishito kabob had a wide variety of freshly barbecued vegetables, but unlike my appetizer this dish was missing an extra flavor touch. The drink and dessert selection looked good, but I like to spread myself around. I would definitely want to come back and eat outside on a warmer day.
