I heard great things about this place and was very enthusiastic to visit...however, though the food was pretty solid the service was quite lacking. I have found the front staff and the wait staff to be lacking in their consideration towards restaurant guests. It seems that they are picking and choosing whom they choose to grant a great experience to. Service: The front staff and waitress we had carried an air of attitude when dealing with me and my family. It seemed like they were not keen to accommodate a few of our basic requests which essentially boiled down to laziness. To be honest, they are very petty when it comes to getting a table on their rooftop...when my family (of 5) came in, they told us it was first come first serve and sat us inside. Another family came in with 3-4 adults and 2 kids after we were seated, to which they promptly moved them outside even though they were inside as well when a spot opened up. I'm not truly understanding the mentality of service here and frankly thought for a nice establishment there would be better decorum and attitude towards guests. Food: overall pretty good. I came here during a family graduation. This is at a newer hotel property. I had a deeply disappointing and discriminatory experience on August 25, 2025. After checking in at 4PM into the Hyatt, I went to the Ridge Room rooftop restaurant around 6:30PM. What followed made me feel unwelcome and targeted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, when I walked in, I received strange looks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I sat at the bar and waited, but no one acknowledged me until I waved at the bartender to see if I could sit outside. She pointed me to the hostess, who then directed me to a table but didn't offer a menu. Once seated, I waited while two staff members repeatedly walked past me without eye contact, acknowledgment, or service. After more than 15 minutes, I had to go inside and grab a menu myself from the unattended hostess stand. Even then, no one approached me, while staff were clearly serving other tables. I eventually went inside to voice my concern. By that point, it was clear to me I was being bypassed in a way that made me feel racially profiled, as I was the only minority present in the entire restaurant. I went downstairs and reported this to the front desk supervisor, Bryan, explaining that I no longer felt comfortable staying at the hotel. After that, I went back upstairs to record a video of the restaurant to document the environment and demographics of the patrons. The irony is that the first and only time the hostess directly approached me was when she noticed me holding my phone and demanded "are you recording?" which is on the video. Suddenly, I was noticed and confronted. As I left, I saw her rushing off, clearly looking for a manager--again, ironic given that no one could be bothered to acknowledge me when I was actually a customer trying to order food. This entire experience left me feeling excluded and racially profiled. I left the property and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard next door instead, where I was treated with respect. As someone who spends ~100 nights a year in hotels across multiple states, I do not casually use the word "racist." I was refused service at this establishment due to my race. Came to the Ridge Room because we are staying at the Hyatt Place. It's certainly fun in the sense that it feels a bit hidden and when you walk in, it almost gives speakeasy vibes. We came in the evening it there was nice ambiance, it wasn't loud, seemed like a smaller, intimate spot. Our server was Danielle and she was incredibly nice and even gave us hiking recommendations as we told her we were going to Shenandoah the following day. We ordered a Soothsayer drink, the cheeseboard, the mushroom flatbread and broccoli and cauliflower. The drink was decent, nothing to write home about. I will say, the names of their drinks are super peculiar and I almost wanted to ask how they came up with them but I didn't lol. The charred broccoli and cauliflower was so much better than I expected it to be. Light, but flavorful. A perfect amount of smoky char, too. The mushroom flatbread tasted a bit like it was frozen and heated up. Had a great taste, although the crust itself was bland and lacking and after about 10 minutes the cheese got a bit coagulated. The cheeseboard was fantastic. Great amount of accoutrements, however, I do think three small pieces of cheese didn't suffice. Either add another variety, or make the portions a bit bigger. Absolutely fantastic experience at Ridge Room. Tapas bar with a great view (for being in the center of town). Service was friendly, great vibe of music, drinks (Negroni) was great, and the food didn't disappoint. I had the baked Brie and the pork belly. Really cute rooftop restaurant that's a part of the Hyatt hotel. Relatively new, opened about 2 years ago but I'd never heard of it until tonight. My friends recommended it so we went. Park to the left of the hotel and you'll see its own entrance. We didn't make reservations and were able to be seated right away on a Friday night. I feel like a lot of people still don't know about this hidden gem. Our server was super sweet. Only downside was that it was FREEZING inside, we asked to move to a table that was closer to the outdoor seating cause the outside at night with winds was warmer than inside lol. They also have space heaters but unfortunately all the outdoor seating was taken. The views though for sunset were unreal. The cocktails were so good, I did the Tiki rum drink. Their food portions are all small plates so you get a couple to share. My husband and I did the short rib, crab cakes, flatbread, sweet & sour meatballs, and the baguette. My friend and I were in town for a conference and decided to dine here. Upon entry, the hostess was lovely and quickly took us to our table. Outside dining was at capacity but the hostess indicated that she would let us know when a table opened. The experience was amazing! My party did come to the restaurant rather early, so the lighting, service, and ambiance were judged purely based off aesthetic. Beautiful interior and the glimpse I got of the patio was equally pleasant. We got to try many different things off the menu, all of which were delicious + a few drinks. Here are a few comments about each dish... Sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna, $18: delicious! It wasn't a juicy, "drenched" iteration of fish, nor was it a crunchy fried iteration. I greatly enjoyed this take of raw/semi cooked style of tuna. The sesame was a prominent flavor, but still carried a soy rich note to it. It was toped on top of some green beens and carrots which were both delicious. Personally, I was indifferent to the green beans (was yummy and soy-savory, but nothing amazing), but I was very fond of the carrot slices. My party and I rated it our second favorite from the dishes we ordered. Shell-Off Steamed PEl Mussels: $16; The mussels were not fishy at all which was pleasant, however the olives over powered a large portion of the tasting profile. My party and I added sausage to this soup and mainly ate off these pieces plus the mussels. It came with a slice of bread which was pretty generic, super crunchy (maybe too crunchy). This was the only thing we didn't eat cleanly. We put this as our least favorite what we ordered. Cast Iron Seared Crabcakes: $17; Nothing special, we were indifferent to the tasting profile of this dish. The quantity was also very filling after trying the other dishes, but we were reluctant to fill out stomachs with this. The dish was not spicy, but there was either a topping or sauce that added a random kick to the dish. This added a unique profile to the meal. I would put this second to last on my list, just because there was nothing "attention grabbing" about it and it was pretty standard for a crabcake. Sriracha-Honey Glazed Shrimp: $16; Didn't identify any sriracha or spicy (what I would expect from the name) in the shrimp, and the quantity was a personal amount. It had a savory soy taste without being too salty, I personally enjoyed. I would rank my third favorite, only because first and second place are secured from other dishes. Twice Cooked Papa Weaver's Pork Belly: $14; Amazin! Crispy, savory, and delicious. Out of all the dishes we got, we ordered this twice because it was just that good. I am korean-American so I judge pork belly strictly, but this was amazing! It was topped with these delicious apple mini cubes and charred brussel sprouts (not many, wish there was more of these), all on top of this amazing savory glaze. Ranked number 1 from both my party and I. Drink wise, I was very fond of the Crosskey Joy White, sweet and light wine on my palette. My party had multiple Saving Daylight's which a beer that had a sweet fruity taste, and a slice of orange which he squeezed into his beer to add a light citrus flavor. If you come on an empty stomach, the dishes will not fill you up (all of our dishes were small). For a party of two who has big stomachs, we ordered one of each meal with the expectation of the pork belly (x2). This filled us up. Prices were reasonable for everything and the service was great. As a richmond VA native, my girl friends and I took a 24 trip to visit Buccees and the area. We were recommended to visit this place down stairs. First, the hostess was a GEM and didn't deserve the treatment she received by local under aged thugs. Second, my bartender Kayliee was a gem. I've been to many bars and had many reviews but she was a delight. She was slammed by egotistical, sloppy men who wanted her number and she was kind and patient. She served me and my friends consistently through our demands even through her business. I honestly would've tipped extremely more if I didn't realize that her tip through the automatic gratuities and what I left was SPLIT between bouncers and managent that had nothing to do with her service. Firstly, this place is amazing for a date night or celebration. It is a very welcoming place with a decent view. Their brunch menu also looks delicious but I haven't tried it. Although I do love the ambiance, and the service was okay, the food was very underwhelming. We got the corn dip as an appetizer and we were sadly disappointed. I am not sure why it is called street corn because we didn't taste any corn. It tastes more like a bean dip with cheese. If you're not a fan of beans stay away!!!! I was so excited for fish tacos (haven't had them in a long time) and was also disappointed. Catfish is an extremely "fishy" fish so when you're using it in food, less is better in terms of things you pair it with. The amount of jalepenos, sauce, and especially pineapple that is pared with this fish was wild. These tacos are extremely acidic and we ended up ordering bread to go along with them. These tacos are way too many random flavors all combined in one. It was the strangest fish taco we had ever had. With all that being said, I would like to go back to try other menu items. As we were looking at food the other tables ordered - I think we just picked the wrong items. The food had really good potential here. I personally ordered the fish tacos -excellent, lots of flavour and great texture. The chicken Slovaki was yummy but had some old Tomatoes which really brought the whole dish down. Same with the salmon crostini, the bread was clearly old. Overall good food that could be great with fresher ingredients. The cocktails were above average but nothing exceptional. Worth trying but maybe not the best I've ever had. Service was great. There was one server -Dustin- who basically ran the restaurant. The wait was a bit slow but not his fault -there needed to be more servers on the floor. Overall I had a delightful experience here. The Ridge Room is a new rooftop bar at the Hyatt Hotel. Once I heard about it, I had to come and check it out. For you to know, there is a separate entrance and elevator on the far side of the hotel that only goes to the Ridge Room which is so cool and gives you that exclusive VIP feel. You can make a reservation online or walk in to be seated. Though the bar and lounge is a decent size, they have seating at the bar, 2-4 people tables, 2 elevated 8 people tables with high chairs and a lounge sitting area with couches and chairs. I just loved all of the decor! Has a cozy, rustic, and upscale vibe. It was very cold so the outdoor balcony was not open but I am sure it's a vibe with it's warmer. Came to celebrate a friend's birthday so we shared a few appetizers which were all amazing and delicious! They have a great menu of small bites and plates, wine, cocktails, and dessert options!Definitely recommend the meatballs, the crab dip, and the BBQ flatbread!
