A fun place, not always crowded with different atmospheres in each room, although I don't understand the bed. You have to suck in your breath when you walk in but it opens up. A small two level outdoor porch is really nice when the weather is right. It is still new enough that not that many people really know about it. Nice to have a drink with friends and the people are friendly and bartenders are cute. Has a lot to live up to with a name like The Ritz. But it is nice to have a friendly place to go with no "pickup" hassles or hustlers. read more

I don't know why my friends love this place, maybe because they find people to go home with almost every time, but it's so gross!! The dance floor is like 200 degrees, dark and steamy and everyone's just rubbing sweat all over each other. NOT my idea of a good time. read more

Definitely a safe place to go if you want to dance your ass off to fun music. The staff is super nice, which is refreshing for a NYC joint, the crowd is (for the most part) unpretentious and there just to have a great time, and there's a great mix of people -- definitely someone for everyone here! The upstairs isn't always open, but when it is, I'd suggest going up there; the music is generally always better upstairs and it's much easier to get drinks at the upstairs bar. Music is generally remixed pop/Top 40 songs, so expect a [i]lot[/i] of Beyonce. The drinks are generally cheap and can range from average to super strong, depending on the bartender. Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be!! I absolutely loved it when it used to be a lounge and it looked like the gorgeous inside of a yacht. Some time last year, or the year before, it became a club and it lost all of its charm. The beautiful white and royal blue motif went out the window! In fact, most of the furniture went out the window including that fun canopy bed at the back of the lounge. It is now an open space with carpeted platform lined along the walls, which is used for people to dance on... like a club! I suppose a club is fine too, but I am reminiscing on how beautiful it used to be. The music has managed to stay fresh and fun; however, the club itself is too small and overcrowded to be a club. AND, it is too damn HOT!!! It was allegedly shot down not long ago for being extremely over capacity, and since then they've been able to keep it semi tolerable in there. Here's a bit of advice for Tommy... Please bring back the old Nautical/Yacht-like motif for the upstairs area, and keep the club downstairs with a similar motif to keep it consistent and beautiful! Also, please install a heavy duty AC for the downstairs area and it'll make things much more tolerable and ritzy. :-) read more

They offer a good happy hour IF you can get there in time to grab a seat at the bar. Even then the place is so small and crowded that you're gonna get bumped, hit, touched, and easily fondled by a borderline Jurassic, predatory crowd. If you're down for that, go! Often! I'm not, which makes me sad since they have such great happy hour prices. But there's a level of cool flirting that happens in a bar...and a level where you know you're about to be asked if you take credit card. I have one friend who loves this place and I will always meet him to happy hour here. But it's not a place I'll go of my own volition. read more

It was first time visiting this bar on 10/05/2019. I am not sure why they asked me to leave. I was with my friends whole time and left them just to use restroom and when I came out they asked me to leave. Not sure why. They didn't even allowed me to take my credit card and ID back. It's very small downstairs and can way too overcrowded...however it would have to be my favorite bar in the area. This is only in due part because you can dance, brush up on men, the guys are cute, and there is a separate lounge upstairs. The guys seem to be a bit more friendly and approachable here than downtown bars as well. It tends to be on the 20-30ish crowd with not much of the in betweens. The music is always good and the only thing to be desired is possibly more room and an outdoor garden in the back, hello. read more

The Ritz is a staple in Hell's Kitchen, and a great neighborhood bar that turns hopping and hot late into the night. Best music in HK and GREAT drinks. The staff is good-looking and free of attitude, unless you're a jerk! Lighten up, unwind, have a drink during Happy Hour, or dance the night away with your friends... either scene is fun and full of good spirits! And the owner is HOT too! DO NOT RECOMMEND May have been LGBTQ friendly in the past but not anymore- what a waste! Horrible people, horrible service- supposedly a gay bar but the most judgmental place I've been to. So, to start I didn't even want to walk in after the bouncer decided to stuff his hand deep into my boyfriend's bag and look at his cash. He took a long time looking at our IDs when in fact he knew they were fine. Just wanted to be an asshole. That's when I should have just walked away, but I just kept thinking maybe he's had a rough night. While reviewing the IDs he had a hard time trying to keep his beaded hair out of his face, but I could see his smirk the whole time as if he didn't want us there. Figured maybe he was just having an off night and walked in. Then we walked in- the vibe was not there. Walked into the bar and no one was really in there, the bartenders were ignorant and if you were not someone they always saw daily they could care less. Not the type of gay scene for a young gay. Then when walking out I could hear the bouncers laugh saying well that didn't last long, glad they walked out. We just wanted to see the hype for this gay bar, but actually felt better walking in Trump Tower. What a disgraceful bar for the gay community. So I arrived with my group ( 6 ) of friends on a not so busy Tuesday. The tall bald bouncer checked our IDs. And determined we weren't eligible to get in because the app he had on his own his personal phone couldn't scan our out of state IDs. Mind you we are ALL in our 30s. After showing him where the birthdays are on all of our license. He then proceeded to yell " I KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AND YOU DON'T NEED TO SHOW ME BOY". It was embarrassing for my guest whom I invited out and more importantly it was unprofessional. It it weren't for the group of people outside (who were also from out of town) who joined in and said " he did the same thing to us" It sad to see such shrewd people at the door of the bar who represent the club in such a negative way. read more

On our way to The Ritz for a birthday party, my friend said that the back deck resembled a San Francisco house party. He was right - not only because there were a half-dozen SF gays in attendance, but also because it has that two-tiered patio that's secluded and lovely that is so prevalent in my hometown. The mismatched decor inside made me think that the bar owners furnished the place through fire sales. Are we going for cabana chic? Ralph Lauren Home? I had a fun time. Fun music, everyone wanted to dance. No cover which is awesome. There were several girls there, which is always nice. I'm not a fan of sexist policies. There were still plenty of guys though. Many of whom were close to my age (I'm 21). I only saw one of the dance rooms? It was small, but a lot of fun. I also saw a porn star there, which is, yanno. Exciting I suppose. Overall fun times! Only complaints-- The guy I was with and I asked for a Gin & Tonic and a Vodka Tonic... after repeating that back to us, he then gets very confused, apparently, and starts making two vodka drinks... looks at me... realizes I said gin, and just fills the rest of the glass with gin & tonic... So i had a really yummy (not...at all....) Gin & Tonic with vodka hints. Not even hints. More like blatant clues. The dry ice machines, or whatever it was that was blowing on us every once in a while, was actually a little abrasive and kinda scary. I'm not very easily startled at ALL and I'm always calm in stressful situations, but when you'd get blasted by cold smoke with small ice chunks on the big drops in the music, it wasn't fun and was really stressful, haha. read more

I come to the Ritz a lot; it's a well known and popular bar in HK. Weekends are packed with guys, and most weeknights are also hopping. It gets crowded quickly, a good sign that guys generally like to come here. Drinks are of variable strength. Sometimes they're super strong, depending on the bartender. The upstairs bar is easier to access than the downstairs one. There are two regular dance floors and a third one open sometimes. Downstairs is a tight space that gets swelteringly hot and gross, so even in winter consider wearing a tank. Usually the music is a good mix of pop with some classics. And the drag performances are so much fun. read more

Oh, Ritz. You're like an old friend I just can't shake. And when I say I don't like you, we both know it's a lie. How many nights have I spent here, dancing the night away? I don't remember. No... SERIOUSLY. I DON'T remember. When I'm at this place, I get that drunk. Don't judge. I'm grown and I do what I want. This place is in a prime location if you're in midtown for any reason. The best night I spent here was with Katie T. and her friend Jackie, which is one of those fateful nights where there's several pictures of me doing things that I don't even remember doing. This place isn't really anything great. It doesn't have the inner glow charm of Vlada, or the manboy charm of Splash... it's very basic. A classic. I can't say I ever really make a plan to go here, but when I end up spending a night at the Ritz, I kind of never regret it. I have been here in multiple stages of it's construction... I think it's pretty much done for now. It's pretty cheap to drink here on Wednesday nights because they usually do an '80s night that's promoted really well. The bartenders are friends, especially one from MA who has kind of that rugged charm when he smiles. People are generally slightly friendly here than other gay bars in NYC, but sadly... that's not really saying much. I probably wouldn't ask you out for a night at the Ritz, but if you wanted to bring me? I'd go. The experience has to kind of grow on you... like a Chia Pet. read more

If you love to dance be prepared for an amazing time at The Ritz! It's a gay bar and club which 3 dance floors. Sometimes the rooftop is closed to private parties which happened to us over the weekend so I haven't actually been. But the 1st and 2nd floors boost dance floors and DJs with TV screens that play the music video of the current song that is blasting. There are strobe lights, disco balls, fog machines, and in the case of the 2nd floor area, mirrors. The space can be cramped, but from 11-12:30 there was enough elbow room. The 2nd floor doesn't open until 11:15 or so. When we went, the DJ played top 40s dance music. The 1st floor DJ had a mix of current and old top 40s and also played a kpop song called Lollipop. Bartenders were super friendly but only downside to the night was that the 2nd floor DJ didn't want to take requests although he did play some of the songs I requested. The second time I came back to thank him for accommodating me but he just flat out said "no requests" when I tried to show him my thank you note on my phone. :( read more

Fun place. Extremely crowded to the point were if one more queen spills your drink, you will start a fight type of atmosphere. I liked it a lot mainly because there's no cover and you can dance on the dance floor or lounge upstairs on the leather couches. Place dies down around 2:45ish am on Friday & Saturday, but that's only an hour left of drinking!! read more

Hot club hidden in Hell's Kitchen in a tiny brownstone. God it gets so packed in here. Getting a drink is hard. Make it a double so it last you an hour. It was a sardine can and really uncomfortable but what can you expect for NYC? read more

It's alright. Not bad, but not amazing. The guy who lets people in at the door was drunk and oogling my sister, but he was nice and let her in even though she didn't have her id, so that was definitely a plus. If it's crowded in the front and you're waiting for a drink, you might as well go to the back and order from the smaller bar. Good place to dance if you're into Top 40 and r&b/hip-hop. Guys here aren't really my type, but the drinks are cheap considering the location. read more

The music is one of the best parts about Ritz. Music videos galore and excellent remixes. Whoever the DJ has been on the times I've been here has been on his game. Drinks a bit overpriced but I've always had a fun time here so I'm not gonna complain too much. There are a lot of gay bars to choose from in New York, especially in Hell's Kitchen, but Ritz is definitely not one of the worse ones. It stands up there with Hardware and Therapy/Industry as one of the better gay bars in HK/Chelsea in my opinion! The two and half levels of dancing are also a plus, although it can get ridiculously crowded and the patrons a bit obnoxious. read more

The Ritz is a great gay bar, provided you know what to expect. Awesome happy hour because drinks are good and cheap and this place usually doesn't get too crowded. One of the latest happy hours around (9pm). However, sometimes it can be so empty that you and your friends will feel like you are the only people there. During the summer and weather permitting, theres a terrific outdoor space. Its great to have a cold beer outside with your friends. Its kind of like an escape from city life. At night, this place can get very crowded, very hot and kinda sleazy. On the weekends, there is usually some type of dancing going on. They open up the second floor. If you a single straight women, you can have so much fun without worrying about creepy guys trying to grind you or touch you. It was year 2004, accidentally, I stumbled into this place with couple of straight friends when yelp, foursquare and other social tools were not available, oh boy, I still remember vividly how my straight friends stumped out after seeing two guys making out, it was hilarious at that time but as time went by and gay couples were more accepted in the society and 2 of those friend who had stumped out in 2004 came out of the wood accepting who they are in 2008, since then any time we hang out, we always make a stop at The Ritz. read more

Great bar, really fun.. All they need to do is invest in a better air ventilation system. You will literally leave this place dripping in sweat because it is so humid. Drinks are definitely not cheap, but the party is a great time. The second floor is more loungy, great for an easy dancing break. read more

I've never had a bad time here. At least, not that I can recall. My Sharon Needles fan club, NYC Loves Needles, decided to make The Ritz our post-Drag Race after hours spot last week. What a great decision! Fun patrons, fun music, good drinks, and the best surprise: a show starring the lovely Bianca Del RIo! I was dressed as a cat so she picked me out of the crowd right away for the dance contest. I don't remember if I won, but I do remember being a finalist. The biggest adventure has come this following week, as I had drunkenly left my cape at the bar. I called the next day and was told it was there, but when I went to retrieve it, the bartender at the time told me he didn't have time to look for it. (This is why I am giving 4 stars versus 5.) My second attempt to retrieve my cape also proved futile, but the staff was extremely helpful and sincere, and I met some really fun and interesting people in the 10 minutes I waited while they looked for it. I am happy to report that today, I was successfully reunited with my cape! Thanks Ritz! read more

Thought this place was fun at first! Was my friend's 21st so him and I celebrated at the Ritz and was having a good time. Went outside to smoke and some guy tried selling us shit, didn't know how to get him away and was uncomfortable so clearly tried going back in the bar so this dude would leave? Bouncer didn't let us back in because we "bought something". So he had to get our coats and my open tab. Drinks were good and cheap but I was charged $78? Honey my tab should have been less than $40 and this bish tips because the bartenders were the sweetest but they really charged me almost $80 hahaha never going back here again, already told my homies to stay away. I have visited The RItz and neglected to review it (or anything on Yelp) but my friend and I were looking up a place to go and The RItz came up and I read a friend I took here for my birthday reviewed it! so I have to put my 2 cents in lol The RItz has been bar/lounge I go to for a while. Every time I go theres never a hassle to get in. There is never a cover and its usually busy but I usually go on the weekend. I recently went on a thursday and experienced the great happy hour they have $4 well drinks and $3 beers? how great is that? If you get enough before 9 you probably wont have to drink for the rest of the night. The music was good (they played Britney backed to back 3 times!). I'm sure the music changed as the night progressed. As I mentioned I went here for my birthday and went with some great people and they were kind enough to buy me drinks and I was happy for the night. I tend to go to the 2nd floor since I like the music up there more. They mix Beyonce, Britney, Gaga, and some Hip Hop. This place is definitely busy during the weekend so if you don't like a crowded party then don't go. I like being in packed places (But I try to get there early to get a dance spot lol). read more

I'm no stranger to visiting New York (I live in the Dallas, Texas area); however, I haven't been to many gay bars here. Last night I went to The Ritz for the first time and had a GREAT time. The bartenders were friendly, fast and fantastically good at their job. My friend and I started on the main level, then went up a floor to an alcove overlooking the street (with a lovely floral arrangement and candles) to talk. A good time was had by both of us. Later today I met up with another set of friends and they wanted an afternoon drink, so I said, "Let's go to The Ritz, I had a great time there last night." They told me about the two bars they visited the previous night and neither was anything to write home about, in their opinion. We got to The Ritz and were instantly greeted by Marco, and later Steve. We all enjoyed WELL-MADE drinks at GREAT prices with WONDERFUL conversation amongst ourselves and with both Marco and Steve....a good time was had by all. I don't know what experiences other people have had at The Ritz because I wasn't there with them, but I would suggest they go back if their visit wasn't as stellar as either of my two visits within a 24-hour period. This is the place to be in NYC! P.S...The music on Friday night was INCREDIBLE! :-) read more

I really like the Ritz. But I think the vibe careens from packed to the hilt to dead as a door nail. I would say Sunday night is the best as it's a nice middle ground but Saturday's are great too just very very busy. It's easy to get drinks, people are friendly and it's a small intimate place that expands to two levels on the weekends. In my opinion it's comfortable if you're alone and if you're in a group. Location is top notch in Hell's Kitchen and convenient to tons of hotels. What I like most about it is that it's representative of New York in that it's extremely diverse. So it really welcomes all from all walks and that's a comfortable place to me. read more
