After a wonderful first experience at River Road House, we were looking forward to visiting again for lunch. Unfortunately, this visit didn't match the high bar that was previously set. I still really like this place, but the service was way off on this particular day, even though they were not busy. We ordered three Road House Burgers, two with sweet potatoes fries, and one with regular fries. We were only served one burger w/ sweet potato fries, but we were charged $3 extra for each burger! And one burger was missing bacon. The amount of blue cheese crumbles and caramelized onions was minuscule. The burger patties themselves are unseasoned, so the toppings are key. Overall, it's a decent burger and I like their fries, but it's hard to overlook the mistakes with our ordering, especially when we were overcharged because of it. read more

What an awesome place! From the outside it may not look very flashy but the service and food was amazing! We stumbled across this little place and it was just what we were looking for. Crystal made sure our drinks were always full and we exchanged stories and laughter about living in Florida. I wish we had a local place like the River Road House where we live, love that local feel! The steaks, burgers, quesadilla's, and chicken salad were all fantastic. Highly recommend stopping by for a beer, some great food, all in a low key and down to earth little restaurant. I was picking my fiancé up from the airport in Albany and he was hungry as we were driving back home, so I look for restaurants off the beaten path, and found this gem! It was a nice day so we got to sit outside on the patio but I popped inside to use the restroom and it's a cute little bar that I would definitely go to again and have a drink. Our waitress greeted us, and was so refreshingly delightful and helpful when it came to picking out what to eat. She said that the sesame chicken salad was one of the best she's had and you don't need to use that much dressing and she was completely right. There were so many different flavors going on, but they all went so incredibly well together a Fiancé got the pork quesadillas and he said they were the best quesadillas he's ever eaten! First time visiting and we will make it our stop when we are back in the area. There is not one negative word to speak. We had a group of 13. We were seated all together. Waitress was very nice, friendly, attentive. We were welcomed and told it may be a little while, did we want appetizers. Fresh cooked meals were all outstanding. Every one in our party enjoyed their appetizers and meal. We had nachos, reubens,pizza, boneless wings, philly steak, house salad, french onion soup, mozzarella sticks, chicken alfredo,fish and chips, homemade chips, hand cut fries were amazing, the fresh iced tea was also perfect. This has been in my list to try for quite a while and finally decided to go. Unfortunately it was a major disappointment for me. The service was really good and they had some good tunes playing but the food was a big miss. Based on the pictures I thought this would be a good place to get wings and pizza. The wings were some of the worst I've ever had; not crispy at all and borderline undercooked on a few. We ordered a 12 cut pizza which i think was supposed to be a square pan pizza but came out oval. There was so much crust on the side and corner slices that only about half the slice or less had cheese and sauce. It was the most amateur looking pizza I've ever been served. It looked as if a child made it and the toppings were pretty sparse. That being said, the dough and sauce had good flavor and it was crispy. read more

Pretty Good! I came here with a group of yelpers to explore all the unhealthy things they offer. The place was inviting, very popular on a Thursday evening, to the point that it became very loud inside. I started with a visit to the bar. I was hoping for more variety on tap, but I opted for a Wolf Hollow District 6 IPA in a can. Most draft was general domestic beers, with two craft choices. Hoping they get some more variety on tap. The menu was typical tavern fare with a couple of unique options, such as duck wings. We ordered a large array of items including mozz sticks, fried pickles, 3 orders of wings, duck wings, junction fries, 3 pizzas, and fried calzones. Some stand outs were: The buffalo wings, ordered extra crispy. They were meaty and crispy, with a good sauce. The blue cheese was also super chunky, likely made in house. The other flavors we ordered were not as impressive. The duck wings, who doesn't love duck wings? The fried pickles were very nicely done, great coating that really held on. The pizzas were pretty good, a little under done but still good. Our favorite was the white pizza with extra garlic. The philly specialty pizza was somewhat odd, not a huge fan. The fried calzone was interesting. A savory fried dough. The marinara served with the mozz sticks and calzone was a miss, not sure what was going on with it but it was perhaps a bad batch. The service/kitchen was unfortunately very slow this evening. Not sure if this was because the place was really busy or if it is normal. All food seems to be made in house so I suppose it is worth the wait for higher quality food. This is a fantastic place for the locals in the area, or if you find yourself near by. Holy heck, I don't even know where to begin with this place. We were rambling down I-90 and found it on Apple Maps, 4.5 star rating. Definitely has a hometown bar feel to it, it doesn't look like a fancy place, but the food was phenomenal and so was the service. I had a wonderful Bloody Mary... well, two. They came garnished with celery, bacon and fried pickle chips. Hubby had the steak and cheese sub with fries and left no crumb. The steak wasn't some shaved steak-ums crap, it was literally a chopped sirloin. So, so delicious. I had the "plain ol' burger" with American cheese and bacon with a side of onion rings and it was delectable. Perfectly cooked to how I ordered it, juicy and delicious. The onion rings came with "horsey sauce" which was a deliciously creamy horseradish sauce. Our server, Katrina, was delightful, not only to us but also to a little guy, maybe 4 or 5 years old at an adjacent table. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place!!! read more

You ever been in the middle of traveling and realize "I need food IMMEDIATELY" but there are few options around? Of course you have. My wife and I were heading home from visiting family and it hit us too. This was the only option on the map that wouldn't require us to backtrack or wait 20+ minutes, so we have it a shot, even though it was close to closing time for them. The place sneaks up on you, hidden among the indicators of a struggling blue-collar rural town with 1 major employer. The waitresses were very earnestly welcoming and friendly, even though we were very clearly Not From Around Here. Even though they were set to close within 30 minutes, they never let that affect their attitude. Menus were brought quickly, orders taken immediately, and food brought out in about 20 minutes. I got a personal pizza (which they apologized to me for taking longer) and my wife got the dilla del dia (quesadilla if the day). Both were great! Pizza was perfectly hot and crisp, quesadilla had the right amount of crunch and was well filled (but not so overstuffed that it fell apart). If you're somewhere around Schenectady and Rotterdam and you want some good local pub food, this is the place. read more

We decided to have a late lunch while out running errands. It's been a while since we ate at the Road House so we decided to stop there. We ordered the same food, started with French Onion Soup and the Mushroom Swiss burger with chips. The soup was excellent, plenty of cheese & onions in a delicious broth. This is an excellent local restaurant. I came here with my husband and my son and we all enjoyed a beautiful meal. The food was top-quality the restaurant is kind of a dive bar but the people are friendly and it's an enjoyable atmosphere. The prices were reasonable. They even Friday or calzones if you request it. We did not have the opportunity to check the restrooms. Personally I would never bring young children here but a late teens and up at eight I certainly wouldn't have a problem coming back and enjoying a nice meal with some fine folk. A short drive away from the electric city is a very serene, mountain filled area called Rotterdam Junction. It is shockingly beautiful. It definitely has a "middle of nowhere" kind of feel. Thankfully the middle of nowhere does have a decent spot to eat. The River Road House is a bar with a decent sized menu. They have a really neat patio which I bet is packed throughout the summer. I came here with a large group and the staff really tried to be accommodating. My group tried numerous items on the menu. We started with a landslide of appetizers. Wings three ways (BBQ, Lemon Pepper and Medium). We ordered them crispy. They were a nice size and came with great blue cheese. Not enough lemon pepper sauce. Zero heat in the medium sauce. We also ordered junction fries, mozzarella sticks and fried pickles. All three were delicious. Mozzarella sticks were not homemade. The fries were an interesting cut and the cheese sauce was awesome. The fried pickles were a serious winner. Loved the sauce that came with that one! I saved the best appetizer for last. Duck Wings. Wow. Spicy, meaty, crispy. They were awesome. They created an incredible sauce to accompany them. They were so good that using the blue cheese felt like an insult. We also ordered three pizzas which felt like they took forever to be served. Meatball, White Broccoli with Ricotta and Sausage (heavy garlic) and one of their specialty pizzas, Philly Cheese Steak. I enjoyed all three. The broccoli pie was killer! Really good Italian sausage. The philly pie didn't make me do cart wheels, I honestly hate novelty pizzas, but I still enjoyed it. The meatball pie was tasty. The sauce was a bit lacking. My group also decided to try something truly unique. A fried calzone. It had an interesting texture. The outside was crispy but the crust was chewy. I did not feel like the frying did much to the calzone. Glad I tried it though! This really is a fun spot for a group of friends. They have a limited beer selection but did offer Wolf Hollow. Nice to see them supporting their neighbor! If I find myself out in the wilderness of Rotterdam Junction again I would love to check out some of their main dishes as well. read more

I have intentionally avoided these in the past, because it was just as I had suspected: a wonderfully fun time ordering a table full of foods for sharing, which clashed with my perpetual diet. Excellent! Don't mistake this place for a "biker"bar or the food as typical bar food. The food was prepared to perfection! My Buffalo Wings were juicy with a nice crispy crust. Clam strips were perfectly cooked! My wife ate double the amount of pulled pork tacos that she normally would. We'll be back for sure! read more

I came here for restaurant week and it may have been an off night for them because it was so busy. I'll start off with the positives. The staff was great and so friendly. We were seated as soon as we got there. The restaurant reminds me more of a bar than a restaurant. I ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and it was delicious. The top had a great crust to crack open and the cream was the perfect amount of sweetness. However, the main course was a huge disappointment. I ordered the haddock and it came with baked potato and green beans. Everything was so bland, it seemed like there was no seasoning at all. I ended up adding a bunch of salt and pepper and even taking the lemon from my water and squeezing it onto my dinner. The fish was also severely dry and over cooked. So happy I was browsing around looking for a local place to have lunch. Came across the River Rd. House. A true neighborhood friendly bar/grill place. From the moment we walked in I felt welcomed. Friendly service, like visiting an old friend. Our server/bartender had a good sense of humor. I told her I see the Boston sign up, where is the NY Yankees stuff. We laughed. We teased each other . All in fun! I ordered the special duck legs. Wow what a good , mild heat with a sweet sauce. Very moist. Will definitely have again. We also tried the fried pickles, spot on. I ordered a half order of lemon pepper hot wings, probably the best I had a long time. Side house salad was a big portion. My daughter went with the steak quesadilla lunch special. Came with chips and salsa in the side! Very good ! All in all I like the place. Looking forward to dining out on the outside seating area. Go support our local establishment ! I dined here on a Saturday for lunch with my boyfriend and his Mom as we had never tried it before. The place is nice on the inside and has outdoor seating. The server was nice and prompt, they had a selection of craft beer on tap in addition to the standard domestics. We each had one of the sandwiches on the menu; the reuben, one of the burgers, and the philly. All of the food was good, nothing really stood out but it was enjoyable. We were happy to see a true continental menu that doesn't focus just on "chicken wings, pizza, reuben's and french onion soup." They offer many options, even for vegetarians and vegans.
