Last night, a charitable organization I belong to (if you work in the insurance industry anywhere in the US or Canada and want to know more about it, message me), held a big fundraiser here for the Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp. For many years, we held this gala at the Aquaturf Club, but in an effort to switch things up, this year's board wanted to try a new venue. I have to say, I'm very glad they did so, because my first experience with The Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station was a very positive one. The building is gorgeous, the entry foyer and grand staircase are impressive, the banquet room can hold 300 and it is beautiful, the servers and bartenders were wonderful, the view from the big rear balcony is stellar, and the food was excellent. We had 130 guests who started off the evening with a big hors d'oeuvres station of tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, balsamic prosciutto and artichokes, and a hot crab dip served with crackers and rye toasts. The ribbons of prosciutto and artichokes were excellent, but the crab dip stole the show. When the main food stations opened up, there was plenty - a carving station with ham and turkey with salads and rolls to make a sandwich, and a penne station with terrific green and quinoa salads. I loved the sound system too -when our speakers took the podium, the sound was excellent and filled the room easily. We had a wonderful time at the Riverhouse, and I hope we hold next year's function here again. read more

Went for Mother's Day brunch. Food was good service was good - Nick (I think a bus boy) was extremely attentive along with our waitress. Disappointed when we went to pay. The cost advertised was $59. Fine. Then they add tax AND service fee. Over $76 a person - then we find out the service fee does not go to the waitress or bus people for tips -it is a service fee that goes straight to the management or Riverhouse for the help and setting up. These were the words of the manager that checked us out. So we had to additionally tip our weight staff, which was worth it because they worked hard. They need to be more transparent ahead of time as to how much the full payment will be and what goes or doesn't go to the service staff. Very disappointed because of this we probably will not return even though the atmosphere and food was very good. read more

Sadly, this is a tale of unfulfilled potential. What could have been a true destination spot for weddings and special occasions has unfortunately only succeeded in becoming a somewhat fancy social hall. Situated adjacent to the Connecticut River, this location has beautiful views of the river that should have been the backdrop for a place to remember when hosting weddings and other important events. Too bad the designers decided to not go all out on the interior design. The main room is basically one large, open space with little charm or character. Bulky, dark and brown-colored chandeliers light the hall- my wife remarked that it looks like something out of a scene from "Game of Thrones". Crystal chandeliers would have brightened the space and made it more magical. The space itself could have been designed to make it feel more intimate, by using partial partitions and half-walls to subdivide the hall into smaller units. And the rest of the interior decor was minimal at best- unremarkable window treatments and other decorative effects. This place could have been something very special- if only more thought had been put into the final design. read more

If you are looking for somewhere to get married, the Riverhouse is an absolutely incredible option! Because the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are all self-contained within the venue it takes a LOT of the stress off of the planning process. The staff was amazing! From the management team who helped us plan and organize all the details to the day of catering staff who executed everything flawlessly. We and our guests felt VERY accommodated by everything the folks at the Riverhouse provided for us. The location is gorgeous! We were able to take the short trek down the hill to the river to take photos in plenty of time to get back for the ceremony because of how close everything is. The venue gave us multiple options within where to have the ceremony which is nice. There was a good contingency plan in case of bad weather. Simply put: they are buttoned up from top to bottom and the venue, food and bar were all things we didn't have to worry about because of the quality of everyone involved at the Riverhouse. Our guests really loved the cocktail hour! The mac and cheese bar was a huge hit and the numerous passed hors d'oeuvres were all delicious and enjoyed by everyone! Getting married is expensive, but the Riverhouse is a good value for everything that they provide for an all-inclusive event! recently went to a wedding there. it was ok. The appetizers were okay, there were plentiful but run of the mill. the dinner was okay, the chicken was actually good and the pot roast was a large serving. but the serve time was as so slow. If they couldn't get extra staff to serve the dinners I would not book a wedding there it was terrible. the size of the cake pieces were so small it is now a running joke. I don't think it's possible to slice cake any thinner. it was ok by me because it tasted so bad I wouldn't eat it any way. it was a memorable wedding only in the fact that it was so bad. read more

I was here a few years ago for a conference and returned recently for a wedding. It's a bit off the beaten path, but easy enough to find. You don't have to worry about noise from traffic or bright lights from neighboring businesses; once the sun goes down, you've got a beautiful sky full of stars on view here. The entrance to the venue is open, airy, and has huge windows for a good look at the landscaping. If you're attending an outside wedding ceremony, there's a small space with white folding chairs and, again, beautiful views. The banquet room is huge, with a bar in the middle. The food is great with generous servings. I look forward to my next event here! read more

I came here as a bridesmaid in a wedding over the holidays and was quite happy with my experience. I will say that the entrance will come up quickly, so make sure you're paying attention as you get closer! There is ample parking which is perfect if you are hosting a function here. The space itself is beautiful, and I absolutely love the grand staircase that they have as you enter. Beware - there is pretty horrible cell service here, but they do have wifi! One of my favorite parts about this venue is the view from the back deck of the main room. You can see the river and the Opera House right across the way. All of the staff we encountered were absolutely fantastic, and the food was DELICIOUS. I don't plan on getting married anytime soon, but I would definitely consider having an event here if I had the need to! read more

Went here for the Mother's Day brunch. Moderate selection of items, most of which were stone cold, with the exception of the made-to-order omelets, which were uniformly cooked to a dark brown. Baked cod was very dry and chewy, while the fried chicken breast was also dry and way too spicy for anyone at our table. Marinated sirloin was good. Most aggravating was ordering a draft beer and receiving an 8 oz beverage in a 10 oz glass for $5 that was warmer than room temperature. I assume that it was the first draft of the day and that the bartender neglected to run fresh beer through the line before drawing mine. Careless mistake. Desert table was nice, but overall experience was lacking. Service staff were pleasant, but clearly untrained and lacking experience, and the cold food was just too much to ignore at $45 a person. read more

My husband and I were married at the Riverhouse in June of 2016. We have absolutely nothing negative to say about our wedding process with the Riverhouse Staff. Everybody went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and effortless. The staff is the best! They're always available to assist, quick with email responses, and always have good suggestions. The Riverhosue really does go above-and-beyond to make sure their bride and groom are taken care of. On our wedding day, it was great to have our own personal Bridal Party assistant to make sure that we had everything we needed (drinks and appetizers after we did photos, they went to the buffet like to get our food for us, and kept checking in to make sure we always had a drink in our hand). The food is amazing. Since we had a hard enough decision finalizing our menu, we decided to have buffet stations for our meal so everybody could enjoy all of the food options. We still have guests commenting on how delicious everything was - especially the scallops. We used Creative Cakes by Donna which is right down the street and were also very impressed with the quality. The location is great for any time of year. We really liked the indoor/outdoor aspect of the venue. Since we had an afternoon wedding, it was really nice to be able to open the doors to the wraparound deck, that overlooks the CT river, and give guests the ability to mingle outside. The bridal suite and grooms "cave" were beautiful backdrops for our getting ready photos. The proximity to the CT riverbank also makes for beautiful bridal party photos. Beautiful venue. Everyone was great and helpful. I was disappointed with the bar. You pay so much money and they served water down drinks. Very disappointing. You would not get a buzz at all. You will get bloat with the amount of water they mixed in the drinks. Very skimpy. In the end everything else was great. read more

My husband and I had or wedding reception at The Riverhouse in May 2016....it was the best decision we made in all of our wedding planning! I can not say enough good things about all of the staff. They truly made wedding planning such an easy and enjoyable experience. Communication was timely whenever we had any questions, and everyone was so helpful and accommodating. We had some special requests and they were able to accommodate everything with no questions asked. They gave great advice and truly made our day perfect!.. from the day we walked in there to the day we walked out as Mr. & Mrs.! They went above and beyond and we can not thank them enough! Hattie was truly the best wedding planner! The venue was absolutely perfect! We were looking for a place that had a beautiful ballroom that would accommodate our guests and not feel too cramped or crowded. We also were looking for an outdoor area for happy hour and thankfully we had a nice day where cocktail hour could be held outside!...it was perfect and I wished cocktail hour could go on forever! The food was delicious and our guests are still raving about it to this day! The Riverhouse was the perfect wedding venue and we could not have asked for a better day! Here for the construction institute award dinner, not impressed at all!! Appetizers horrible, one small table with 5 small plates, Buffet not much better, salad, green beans and chicken, fish or beef. All over cooked. Desert was strawberry shortcake with absolutely no juice. Dry dry dry. Just awful food. The building is not that old but really constructed cheaply. Balcony railings are flimsy, I'm surprised no one has fallen off. Masonry is the "stick on stone". AV system is crap, could not understand the people speaking. Not a good venue for construction professionals. The bar was the best part and the wait staff was excellent. Really sad as I live 5 miles away. read more

I like the Riverhouse, the view is beautiful, there are plenty of places for fun creative pictures, the wait staff is actually really nice! The food is better than some other wedding venues. However, my one suggestions is that they put a white tarp/weather resistant cover over the outdoor ceremony area. For a few reasons, 1) it would eliminate any issue with rain (having the wedding inside on the stairs is NOT pretty, making the guests stand and making them turn around so the bride and leave the bridal suite is such a hassle and bridesmaids tripping on their dresses up the stairs is not cute. And 2) if it is a bight sunny day the tarp will act as a light deffusor making the area cooler and making the photographs a lot more beautiful- no couple wants patches of sun all over them in pictures which is exactly what happens as a result of the beams. read more

Absolutely gorgeous! My husband and I got married here this past October and we had the wedding of our dreams! The staff is incredibly attentive and helpful. All our emails and phonecalls- (and we had many) were answered within the same day and time and thought were put into all the responses. We were given good advice and Kelly and Hattie went above and beyond in allowing us to have every detail of our special night just how we dreamed. The food is exceptional as well as the drinks and the overall location and atmosphere is breathtaking. We are very happy with our choice in wedding venues and would reccomend The RiverHouse to any couple looking to get married. Hattie, Mary and the team at the Riverhouse were absolutely exceptional! Beginning a year ago when we started planning to the very end of our wedding was so smooth and handled as if they were only planning our wedding. They were incredibly accommodating and made the night the most special evening of our lives. We had special bridal attendants throughout the evening making sure we and our families were taken care of. We were able to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside and the views were gorgeous. I recently attended a wedding at the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station and I have to say everything went perfectly and according to plan! The venue itself was awesome, the grounds were beautifully maintained and the accommodations for the wedding party and guests was as good as it gets. Our Banquet Manager Linda and her entire staff was awesome!! We had a fairly large wedding party, and trying to keep everyone together and on task was no easy feat. No problem for Linda though, as the true consummate professional Linda "herded the cats" and kept everything moving and flowing on schedule and making sure everyone was where they needed to be. All with a positive attitude, and friendly demeanor. You can tell Linda and company really love their jobs! There were times I thought the staff were on roller skates as they moved through the venue at lightning speed efficiently attending to all that needed Linda's or the staffs attention, but yet invisible when they needed to be. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the dinner... Hats off to the chef! our dinner was magnificent!! I would have expected a great meal after hearing from some of the guests from a previous event while we initially visited the Riverhouse on our search for a venue, but I have to say with three letters OMG!! How they pulled this off with approximately 175 guests was truly amazing! I felt I was being served at a 5+ star restaurant! The presentation was also truly impressive all around! My husband and I were married at the Riverhouse in September last year. There is nothing bad I can say at all. Our experience was amazing here!!! We loved everything about our wedding. When I think back to the day, there is nothing I can think of at all that could have been any better and that is because of the staff here. The venue is absolutely stunning when you walk in. The food was incrediable, where some of our guests are still talking about how great the meals and appetizers were. I would recommend going to their tasting as well if possible. That was such a fun day and helped us pick which apps to get since we were able to taste everyone of them. The views are incrediable as well off of the decks. We were married on site which was so beautiful under the gazebo. We ordered the extra food to be served during/after dancing which was a fun little touch as well. (Not that it was needed though because the meals were so big) The mini hamburgers, hot dogs and fries were amazing though!! We felt like royalty and that we were the most important people there. The guys loved having a room for themselves as well to get ready which was a great touch. Not many places think about the grooms too. We got ready in the bridal area which was fun as well!! Where do I even being to explain how amazing the Riverhouse is! From my very first visit I knew that is where we were going to have our reception. The ballroom is stunning and you are the only wedding. After booking, Hattie and Kelley made the planning process very easy and were always there to answer any questions I had. The Riverhouse staff pays attention to every little detail. When we were at the final meeting before the wedding going over the food, my dad made a comment that he hates tomatoes. When my dad received his salad, his didn't have any tomatoes. When I arrived after the ceremony, I went out onto the balcony to see the ballroom. They putting the final details together and the room was every more beautiful than I could have imagined. The balcony is also a great spot so your photographer can get a photo with all the guests at the wedding. I would recommend the Riverhouse to anyone planning a wedding. They exceeded all my expectations and made my wedding dreams come true! read more

The Riverhouse truly exceeded our expectations. Both our ceremony and reception were held on the property in October 2016. We can't thank them enough for giving us an amazing fall wedding. The venue is perfect and is in a beautiful location with great views. The food is outstanding and many of our guests told us it was the best wedding food that they've ever had. Most of all, the staff was truly fantastic. We live in New Jersey and I was worried about planning a wedding out of state, however the Riverhouse made the planning process seamless and our wedding went off without a hitch. Hattie and Kelley were so helpful and thorough during the planning that I never had to worry about a thing. They were always quick to respond and made sure all our ideas and visions were part of our big day. We are also grateful to Mary and Michelle who were both accommodating to us and our parents the night of our wedding.
