Friendly and fun atmosphere. Great pizza and drink opinions. Pizza's are on the small side and a little bit on the expensive side. Service was also on the slow side. ( Sat at the bar with my wife for a while with an empty glass and it was hard to even get noticed. This was on a Thursday so not an overly busy time.)That's probably my only critiques. Nice outdoor seating options also. Recommend Rivers Eatery overall. read more

This is the second in a few months that we have eaten at the Rivers Eatery. We thought we would give it another try after our last 75 minute wait experience for two individual pizzas. Well, things have not changed. We arrived at 5:45 and promptly ordered our two pizzas and found a table. Our pizzas arrived around 7:15 pm, after the announced closing time of 7 pm. They definitely have a production problem meeting demand. Part of the problem is they seem to favor takeout orders over their in house customers as dozens and dozens of pizza could be seem being boxed and leaving the restaurant during our 75 plus minute wait experience. It's unfortunate because we nave been loyal customers for year. But no longer until the production issue is resolve. read more

First off, this wood fired pizza is perfect. The marinara sauce for dipping was so flavorful it blew our mind. The pizza combinations to choose from are not only fun to read but the taste combinations are perfection. The size of the pizza is spot on . I didn't think the 10" cut into 4 slices would be enough however three slices of this perfectly balanced pizza and I was pleasantly full. Side note we have eaten here 4 times and never received a negative result. read more

We saw the hardest working staff in the Northwoods! Pizzas are individual size, so we mix and matched and shared.Flavors were amazing & unique. It was very busy (which shows they are popular!! Probably because it is Yummy Yummy Pizza) It's a lot of moving parts to watch and take in. Watching "dinner theatre" with the pizza making, the staff was rocking it! Good pizza. Not my favorite style of crust, but imaginative use of local ingredients. And it was a good, tasty crust (I prefer a thin, almost cracker crust with a good wood-burning char). Nice selection of beers. Pleasant atmosphere. We were a large group (20 people including infants) and they never batted an eye. Love the bookstore in front and the pie shop near the grassy outdoor seating. Their ordering method is odd, but it seems to work well for them. I loved the art on display. read more

Drove up to Cable after LWC and glad we made the drive! This pizza was so much better than what Hayward has to offer (sorry, Coops). It was a bit smaller than I was hoping but enough to be satisfied. The crust is more of a soft, pillowy texture than the chewier crust I personally like. The topping selection is somewhat limited if you're in the mood for anything specific, but otherwise if you're just looking for something that feels good to eat and won't leave you feeling gross, this is a good choice. The outdoor dining area is nice too, though it can get cool on a summer evening. Plenty of ski jerseys adorn the wall, though my friend said hers isn't up there anymore! read more

Our family loved dining at The Rivers Eatery! We ordered an assortment of pizzas and salads and everyone loved the food. Highly recommend getting the Tilly's Cheesy Garlic Bread w/ pesto & marinara sauce (it was SO TASTY) and Tilly's Pie is right next store so you can grab a loaf and a slice of pie afterwards as well. The service was awesome and the ambiance of the restaurant was very cool (a lot of cool bikes with some super cool backstories). We will be returning next year when we visit! read more

I'm not sure what the fuss is about. The place was so loud we could barely talk. The gluten free pizza crust is basically just a tortilla with less flavor. The cheese looked and tasted like a generic 3 cheese blend. I ordered a cranberry chicken pizza that came with 4 cranberries and 8 pieces of dry chicken. The plain cheese and garlic pizza tasted like someone made a bad quesadilla. I asked for olives and they put 5 whole olives on it. And it took about 40 min to bring our food out. The root beer was good but that's about all I can say. I spent the rest of the night with stomach cramps trying to digest it. Do not recommend. read more

This is really great pizza by any town's standard. We have been here twice this year and enjoyed both experiences. Just a no-pretention, comfortable, people friendly darn good place to eat. We eat here often enough to where I should have already left a review. The food is consistently amazing, the staff is friendly, kind and efficient... and the ambience is comfortable & cozy and offers much versatility with outdoor seating. I probably would have missed another opportunity for a review this place but my 11 year old, picky eater, said it was "immaculately good" pizza. And those words are worthy of noting. Heard a whole lot of hype about Rivers Eatery pizza. All overblown from my experience. Went there with a friend. Menu sounded great....creative approaches to pizza. Ordered the "St. Croix" 10" personal pizza plus a draft beer. $22 & change. Meal was subpar. Artichokes were AWOL or MIA. Basil was so bland I thought it was spinach. Truly the blandest basil I ever tasted. No actual pesto whatsoever; none. Feta cheese was just a tease; sprinkles were miniscule. Crust was ok - B plus. But if I'd just wanted bread, I'd have gone to a real Italian restaurant and gotten starter bread free before the actual meal! At a real restaurant, a bruschetta appetizer would have provided a more filling and satisfying meal than this 10" "pizza". Asked the waitress for ice water; she declined and sent me to a self serve "water station"; no ice. No one ever asked how our food was. Arrogant staff. To really "top off" the negative experience (in a way the pizza wasn't properly topped off"), when I got home I got hit with an acid reflux attack that snarled my stomach quite severely. Had to take antacids, H2 blockers and a PPI. Bad indigestion, like the kind only extremely spicy or seasoned foods with peppers & onions produce. Never had such bad indigestion from such a bland meal. Won't return. Does not remotely live up to the hype. read more

How this charming pizza place came to be in teeny-tiny Cable, WI I'll never know but I'm a big fan. First, there's really not a sign or any indication at all where Rivers Eatery is. Hint - its in the back of the Ideal Market and open for dinner only. Days/hours vary by season so check beforehand. The space is amazing - high ceilings, local art and a whole wall of numbers from various races both local & worldwide. You grab an order sheet, fill it out, order & pay at the counter and they'll bring your pizza when it's done. The options range from basic to super creative and they're all cooked in a wood burning oven. Beer and wine (really good selections too) are available. Pizzas are personal size and run about $10 each. Between Rivers Eatery and the Brick House, you're in for some seriously delicious eats in what appears to be an unassuming small town. I've been to this neat little place tucked in the back of a bookstore and market a few times now. I've never been disappointed. The pizza is made with fresh ingredients and homemade dough right in front of your eyes in a wood fired stone oven. They also have great salads and a wide variety of beer and wine by the glass and bottle. Most times I've eaten here, there has also been live music ranging from one man and a guitar to string quartet. It's a very light atmosphere and a perfect family treat. read more

Wow, this place is amazing! The food is sensational, the customer service is top-notch, and the ambiance is really neat. We were driving through Cable on our way back from Bayfield and decided to hit up Rivers Eatery for a little wood-fired pizza and a beer. We immediately fell in love with the place, as everyone working there was so friendly and accommodating. We ordered a pizza -- the White -- along with the River Rocks (a vegetarian meatball made from walnuts and cranberry bread and served with cranberry bbq sauce) and the woodfired smore. This is easily one of the best meals I've have in a long time. The pizza was really creative and full of flavor. And the crust was perfect...a little softer, but just crispy enough. The beer selection was plentiful, with many Wisconsin brewed beers. The River Rocks are one of the best things on their menu. We were raving about them and easily could have eaten several orders. If you've ever had the pleasure of eating the famous Trempeleau Hotel Walnut Burger, these River Rocks strongly resemble the burger, but are even better. And let's talk about the woodfired smore! It was the perfect way to top off a delicious meal -- sweet, gooey, and leaves you grinning. The prices are reasonable...quite inexpensive for what you get, actually. We will definitely be stopping here anytime we pass through Cable. I HIGHLY recommend Rivers Eatery if you're in the area. read more

One of the gems of the Cable/Hayward/Chequamegon area! This is a casual pizza restaurant with a fantastic wood fired oven that produces a chewy crust with just enough char to give make it clear that these pizzas would be great even without any of the elaborate toppings and combinations that are available. Add to the pizza the cold beers and craft sodas that are on draft and you have a truly satisfying meal after a day of skiing or biking in the woods. I have to mention that I am a meat eater - I don't think I have ever passed up a nice piece of meat, but on a local recommendation I tried the "River Rocks," a walnut based vegetarian meatball with a BBQ sauce for dipping. Not only were they excellent, but my 16-yr old son actually thought that they were meat until I told him halfway through his second one. This is my favorite restaurant in the area and if it wasn't for the 7 hour drive, I would go there every week. Don't forget to stop by Tilly's pie shop in the back for some of the best anywhere. read more

Very nice draft and bottled beer selection and a decent by the bottle offering (retail price with a $5 corkage fee). This place really is amazing. It has a great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and top notch pizza. The pizza is a personal size, or it could be shared if you aren't very hungry. There is a gluten free crust available which is made on site by hand. The options for pizza are very creative and are very satisfying. They are baked in a wood fired pizza oven. The owner is a great guy who will personally wait on you and strike up nice conversation. He really puts love into the business and it makes a difference. I have always been impressed after eating here. When you are done you can get some dessert at The Rivers or you can go into the grocery store that is in the front of the building and get treats. They have a great waffle cone at a great price. I am so glad that this establishment is in Cable. read more

The pizza is great, but don't ask for anything special or the owner will fly off the handle. He has been rude to me every time I have spoken to him. Everyone else is great. We have been eating here for eight years, have tipped generously, and have even paid for an extra pizza that they got wrong. Once in the winter I saw a mouse run through their kitchen and I never said a word. But today was the last straw. No customer loyalty means no restaurant loyalty. I don't care if you couldn't do my special request, just be nice to your customers. read more
