Burnt soup and grilled cheese sandwich

We have been to the Riverside previously and liked their pizza and wings but after lunch there yesterday we will never go back! My granddaughter ordered the special of broccoli cheese soup and grilled cheese. The soup tasted burnt and the bread for the sandwich looked just very slightly toasted, not grilled. The slice of cheese not even melted. My son's sub had barely any meat on it, and the wings were drowning in sauce. The service was awful too! Waited 20 minutes for refills on our drinks cause our waitress was tending bar. We didn't want to make a scene but I hated paying for barely edible food. Save yourself the trouble and don't go there!

Brayden was amazing he was so attentive and got us everything we asked for. I got the crab stuffed shrimp as a appetizer and i will get it again it was so flavorful, for the main course me and my husband got the sirloin deal and it was amazing for the price and what we got. we defiently will be coming back every week. if your looking for a good steakhouse locally come to Harvey johns steakhouse.

My parents recently moved to the area, and one thing we all agree on is a love for a great steak…read more So when they heard about Harvey John's--and their $45 Tuesday prime rib special--they tried it and loved and brought me while I was visiting. We made a rookie mistake: no reservation. Day before Christmas Eve. The only table available was by the door, which, for us, is a hard no. It was already chilly outside, and sitting by the door means constant drafts, tense shoulders, and food cooling faster with every opening. Not ideal, especially when you're settling in for a proper steak dinner. To their credit, the hostess tried everything--even showing us the reservation layout for the evening. The owner came over personally, and in the end, our options were simple: take the door table or come back at 7:30 pm when more tables would open. We were hungry, but we chose comfort over impatience. My dad left his number just in case a table opened sooner. We went home, had light snacks, and--surprise--got a call at 6:55 pm. Not only was a table available, it was a booth. That alone told me everything I needed to know about how they run this place. Stellar Client Care. When we returned, the owner John Linderman, met us at the door--warm, apologetic, and genuinely appreciative that we came back. The entire staff operates like a well-oiled team, with hospitality that feels intentional rather than performative. It's been a good while since I experienced an owner manager stop by every table to check in. A gesture from better dining times. Now, the food. We ordered: * Stuffed Shrimp with crab meat * Sausage bombs * Prime rib * A tomahawk ribeye to split I don't know if Harvey John's is officially farm-to-table, but the steak tasted incredibly clean--like actual beef. As a native New Yorker living in Los Angeles, I've eaten at many top-tier steakhouses--BOA, Ruth's Chris, Musso & Frank, Nick & Stef's, Steak 48--and I can confidently say this tomahawk was more flavorful and tasted fresher than all of them. Who knew a small-town North Carolina steakhouse would deliver a truly high-end experience? I'm no chef, but I do have a refined palate, and this meal was memorable. Honestly? If Michelin ever looks this way, they should take note. It's comforting to know you can leave one of the biggest food cities in the world and still find a steakhouse worthy of becoming a new regular favorite. Pro tip: Make a reservation--just to be safe. Cheers to Harvey John's.

Great service on a packed Friday night and the cocktails were on point! I had the old fashioned (no…read moresmoke) and it was perfect. My husband had the Sombra Rioja and it was the perfect combination of smoke and spice, great for mezcal lovers.

Until a friend's meetup group scheduled an afternoon "let's have cocktails all afternoon" Friday. Yup, count me in! I got there right at the appointed time, and the early birds were already halfway into their wine. There is a large patio area outside with chairs and tables in small groups. A sunshade and some nicely placed trees help a little There are a few 2- and 4-tops scattered around as you enter. To the left is a large square bar that projects into the room. Behind it is a veritable library of liquors, towering to the ceiling, which is about 9-10 feet high. Seeing the bartender climb up the sliding ladder and fetch a spirit was part of the show. Further to the left are two seating areas with round tables. We had one of these. The Cabernet proved to be the darling of the group (I think we had three bottles and a few extra glasses, but no one was counting! There were eight of us, so don't think we're a bunch of drunks!) I had looked over the menu online and started with the "Up in Flames". It's a Tiki drink, served with a squeezed lime shell garnish that has a sugar cube and some kind of liquor in it. The waiter lights it while still on the tray, and then sprinkles in cinnamon, which sparkles into the drink. He then extinguishes the flame and serves it. It was quite a show and very delicious! If I ever go and sit outside, I'm going to film it! After a bit, we were getting hungry, so food started appearing. The fig & prosciutto flatbread arrived first, (with a single plate and napkin). It was a 12" x 6" flatbread spread with honey, figs, prosciutto, chèvre, and arugula. Another of these came out later. Quite delicious. Someone else had the nachos, which they said were amazing. After asking, the server brought out more plates and napkins. Other cocktails that we tried and enjoyed were the Perro Perdito (Lost Dog) and the Drastic Measures. The Mango-chili shrub in this one packed a bit more heat than the Jalapeño dip! But it was tasty, with the salt/tajin half-rim. After a few hours of fun food and drink and a lot of laughter, we decided to release our hold on the table. The dinner crowd was champing at the bit to take over, and we were pretty sated. Everyone was safe to drive, so we hugged all around and parted ways, well fed and better friends. Thanks, N&S. You may drag me back to Apex again any time!!
