So, after my Pizza review here; I kept my word and tried the "Non-Pizza" menu. It was good. Not great, but good. Menus like this are extremely "Standard" they do not have a "Stand-out" house specialty! And you definitely need that if you're going with a "Cookie Cutter menu" still, they have an extremely nice interior. Great bar. Very clean. Very hard working and knowledgeable staff. Be very aware when you receive your check. In BOLD, you receive the total of the check, which is for credit card payments. In smaller print under that is the "cash discount". The server won't point it out and it's up to you to figure it out. Furthermore, if you pay using their own gift card, they try to shake you down for more money by adding the credit card fee. Decided to grab early dinner with my son this past Saturday. My son ordered pizza and I ordered the chicken piccata. My son enjoyed his pizza. However, my dish was awful. The chicken was bland and and not tasty at all. I tried to suck it up and eat it but after the second bite I just couldn't stomach the meal. I can't explain the sour awful taste. Look at the chicken how pale it looks. Chicken piccata isn't supposed to look like that. Before paying my bill the waitress asked if I wanted to take my meal home. I said no thanks. She didn't even question why I would throw an entire meal in the trash. Smh. I wasn't asked if I enjoyed the meal or if everything was ok. Go to the Road House--you're going to have a real good time! If you are driving there, be sure you keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel :) Their parking lot is of limited size, but it isn't usually hard to find parking on the street--it's not like it's in Midtown Manhattan. The food and service is very good and it feels like a genuine NYC Italian restaurant. They claim their meatballs have been named "best in NYC" though they don't say by who. They are oversized and a side order includes just two, but that is equal to about 4 regular-sized meatballs. I recommend getting them, although you may well find your entry fills you up plentifully. The place is old-school Italian in that way as well! My only minor rap against them is that their lasagna isn't made with meat sauce, just marinara and cheese. It's good, but my mother, who was born of Italian-born parents, always made hers with meat sauce, so I have come to prefer it like that. This is a mainstay for Wagner College students and they get a discount here, so if you can include one in your party. Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll All night long. Maybe because it just snowed a couple days before & a lot of the spots were snowed in. We parked across the street. "Veronica" our server, was very friendly and attentive. Ok haven't been here in years, always had a good experience but not tonight. We ordered 3 appetizers and a pizza along with some drinks. All were good, not great by any means but good and not complaining about the food. Now for some reason, a young lady worker, not our waitress came over with our check and said , here's your check would you like anything else ( she really meant get the F--- out). Well we actually were going to order coffee and desert but when they hand you the bill when you don't ask for it they want you to leave. This is totally unexceptable. I did ask the young girl what time they closed and she said 10 and then I asked what time it was and she said 930 ( it was actually 920 to be specific). Also we weren't the only people there, there was a table of 6 who sat down and didn't even have there food yet, so it wasn't like they were leaving anytime soon. We were in the mood for a slice of pizza but who really serves slices in an Italian restaurant these days? We had 2 choices: we were in between Staten Island and Brooklyn. My friend remembers eating pizza at this place called The Roadhouse in Staten Island where she used to live years ago.I suggested Campagnia in Bay Ridge but wanted to try something different, so we picked Roadhouse. It was eerily quiet on a Wednesday night: either Staten Island folks were starting Labor Day weekend early or its back to school. When you enter you pass a big banquet room and enter the main dining room which looked semi deserted. This room has a fire place which looks inviting on a cold winter night. We were promptly given menus from a nice server who served us water right away. We were happy to see pizza served either 6 slices or 8 slices. Roadhouse is known for the clam pie: their recipe was concocted by Dr Anthony Andrea aka King of the Meatball. They have an extensive selection of pizza. You can split a pizza as long as the sauces are not switched. So if you wanted to order an 8 slice pie you can split 4 slices of 1 ingredient with 4 slices of another i.e. the clam pie which comes with a white sauce you can have 4 slices and then 4 slices of eggplant topping as long as it's with a white sauce.My friend ordered the clam pie: I found it meh and it tasted fishy. I ordered a regular pizza with black olives which was pretty good. You will also find the traditional pasta, chicken, veal and meat entrees. The service is friendly and efficient. My friend brought me here for dinner tonight, you would never even know it existed because there is no sign outside and it looks like a house. When you enter it looks like a lounge that would be inside a hotel, it's a strange setup but it works! You get free bread, crackers and bread sticks to start along with a couple of pieces of brushetta...good start! The food is good here, but in Staten Island there is many more options. The pizza was great, some of the portions were very small and not worth the price at all. The garlic shrimp was very tasty, but 6 pieces for $22 was rather expensive for a fancy pizzeria in Staten Island. Food is made to order, so be prepared to sit for a while, which is fine. We got to listen to the owner screaming at someone in the kitchen while we waited. Sodas are not free refills. Which in a pizzeria, fancy or not, is really kind of ridiculous. After many years on Staten Island we finally gave this place a try. The service was pleasant and quick. They are known for their pizza so that is what we had. It was delicious and well-made. The location is really nice and woodsy. they have a very extensive two-sided menu with mostly Italian food - from heroes to pizza to full dinners. They have a full bar with a good wine selection.
