Being followed down the road and confronted about not leaving a tip, along with being told not to return when you are working, was upsetting and unexpected. I want to be clear that tipping decisions are personal. While I understand that you work for tips and that this can be stressful, a guest's financial choices are not their responsibility to justify. My husband and I chose to dine at The Well because it has become our home away from home while we are in town, and we take pride in treating both the establishment and its staff with respect. Over the past two years, we have consistently tipped well, from Ryan, whom we met early on around 2 years ago, to Madison, who was brand new hire as of last week. On this particular visit, however, we felt like an inconvenience to you rather than welcomed guests. We also noticed discrepancies on the bill, including two identical drinks charged at different prices, and charges for standard burger condiments such as mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup, which we did not request as extras. These factors influenced our decision that evening. I do empathize with the challenges of working in a tip-based position, and my intention is not to diminish that. However, confronting customers in this manner is not appropriate and places everyone in an uncomfortable position. I had a few tough weeks. I learned sometime ago that my twin sons Bradley and Bryan (aka BNB) were having a hard time with my divorce from my ex-wife Cynthia. Bradley in particular has struggled, having recently been arrested for arresting a train conductor in Philadelphia. Am I a bad father? Am I a bad person? My ex-wife and I drifted apart. I wanted to start anew. But I am learning you can never leave behind what is in the past. But how do you also try to fix things in the future? I was driving in my Kia Soul trying to find answers. I ended up in Bayonne and Massa's. A bartender named Mike poured me a Sammy and let me sit in silence. I can't change the past. I can control the future. All I can do is live in the now, and that is the best way for me to help my estranged twin sons. The bar staff is always friendly and the temperature in the bar is always perfect. They have numerous flat screen TVs above the bar that show every game you can possibly be interested in. They have an awesome little outside patio that has its own TV so you don't miss your game. If a game you want to see is not on, just ask and they'll find it. The crowd is different depending on when you go in. One day it could be a bunch of bikers, then a troop of retired Port Authority officers, and then the next day a college age crowd. It's a roll of the dice.... Overall, a great neighborhood bar that I always enjoy.
