Came here Sunday morning, around 8. Sometimes you have to wait to get seated. I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes. It turns pretty quick. They serve breakfast and lunch. I've always had breakfast. The one drawback is the seating. They have a bar area(no alcohol), tables and booths. If you can pick, I would recommend a table. I like booths but I was quickly reminded why I don't like them there. The booths have shared back and are not sturdy, so if the person behind is big enough and likes to move or oblivious, the experience can be unpleasant. I fortunately was able to move to the other side where the person behind me was calmer. It literally can feel like a roller coaster or someone kicking the back of your seat on an airplane. So to the food, I had 2 eggs, half order biscuits and gravy and a side of fruit. Gravy was a little bland, but nothing salt and pepper can't take of, it contains a generous portion of sausage. How have I never reviewed The Roost before?! Here's the deal: this is place that is what it is. It is my favorite Fishers breakfast spot and you're going to get exactly what you think you're going to get. Their breakfast menu has some interesting stuff on it, including several Mexican entrees, that you don't always see. (Not as good as the Mexican breakfasts at Biscuits down in Broad Ripple, but when Roost has the steak chilaquiles, order them.) Their omelets are great, and I am a big fan of the biscuits and gravy and am a little surprised about the complaints about them here. The hash browns are also outstanding. Portion sizes are often enormous, so be prepared. Service is usually very good and pretty quick. I'd give it 5 stars but the couple of times I've had lunch here weren't as good. And that's fine - there's plenty of other lunch options nearby. But when I want to go out for a classic American diner breakfast and not leave the Fishers area, I'm hitting The Roost. Quality of everything I usually order has really fallen off over the last couple months. The previous review indicated how I felt about the restaurant over the past three years. I was a regular customer. The chicken sandwich I raved about previously is too heavily breaded now. I couldn't even eat the last one. Also, I had loved their western omelet. I had to re-order today because they are way over-cooking the veggies they put in it. Instead of adding the green peppers more raw, so they are crunchy, now it seems they are cooked ahead of time, so they are a mushy mess. I know this is a preference thing and some people prefer this, but the taste is completely different and if you like the more crunchy style, that is a deal-breaker. Just weird that they all of a sudden changed they way they are cooking things. Maybe a new head chef? Disappointed. This is the third disappointing trip in a row. The hubs and I had breakfast here today; it had been YEARS since I'd visited. It was packed, but we knew it would be. I'm gonna start with the good - we're gonna Oreo this thang. The server was kind and accommodating. She was busy. The food was ok. It wasn't like I remember. I ordered one of the specials - small croissant with cheese, bacon, over medium egg. Came with a side of French toast and cornbread casserole. I was excited about this! Hubs ordered country fried steak, scrambleds and fruit. He said the eggs were pretty good. My croissant was cute but obviously microwaved, as it was very hard and chewy. My egg yolk was hard, and the cornbread dollop was not to shout about. What made me sad was this...while we were waiting for a spot to sit, a woman came in by herself and asked if the wait was long even for one person. The hostess answered yes and the woman left. Just moments later, a man came in alone (same nationality as the hostess) and asked the same question. The hostess told him there was a single seat at the breakfast bar. Bummer. This is one of my all time favorite breakfast spots in the Indy area. The scrambled eggs are extra delicious. No matter what you order, you have to get the cinnamon toast! It's a little extra, but worth every penny. Each slice of bread is coated with a thick layer cinnamon sugar. My only issue is the hash browns- they are always tasty, but could be a little more crisp for my liking! read more

I had a lunch meeting here with some clients and the waitress is what made the experience choose the 4 stars since there isn't a 3.5 star rating, the food took a while and I had ordered a hot turkey club sandwich that came out slightly warmer than a cold club. My colleague ended up with the Cobb salad and that was as expected without complaints. It was fairly quiet which allowed us to conduct our business and the atmosphere was perfect for a meeting or business lunch. It wasn't over crowded and it has an older diner style which could use some improvement along with the kitchen staff. The food was prepared well but colder than what was expected and maybe they are lacking help in the kitchen. Foodwise, maybe a 3.5, but the service brings this place up. I was a bit reluctant to go here after a friend of mine seemed underwhelmed, but we had a coupon, so we figured at least we could get it on the cheap. AMBIENCE- definitely not a glamorous joint. The place consists of booths and bar seating. Rather drab lighting, this place definitely has that hole in the wall feel to it. Probably not a place you would want to have a first date, this place still has a charming "locals" feel to it. SERVICE- our server Ben was very friendly and very attentive. I was really struggling between what to get, and he gave his candid opinion, with both pros and cons. He even went the extra mile when I couldn't decide between yeast rolls and cornbread to give me a sample of both. I got the feeling that most of the servers were as friendly as ours. MENU- this place is known for their breakfast, which they serve all day- NICE. I could eat breakfast for every meal if it weren't so unhealthy (or rather, if I weren't so unhealthy). Evidently dinner is a recent addition. The breakfast menu was a pretty decent size (omlettes, combos, pancakes, etc..., though no country fried steak??), where as dinner only had a few options (meatloaf, pittsburgh style steak, fried chicken, chicken and noodles). Wtih the dinner options, you could add $2 to your meal and get all you can eat sides (beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and your choice of bread). FOOD- my wife was craving steak, so she got the pittsburgh style steak (steak served on a hot plate basically). I was struggling between the fried chicken and some omlette that had 5 types of meat in it. The server said the fried chicken was more bang for your buck, so I went that route. With the chicken I got potatoes, beans, rolls/cornbread, and a layered salad (house specialty with different items with a mayo based dressing). My wife enjoyed her steak, and I was really digging the fried chicken. The white meat was juicy, and the chicken itself was not oily or heavy. The only hiccup of the meal was there was saran wrap that had fallen into my potatoes. Normally that would have been a huge red flag, but the server was really good about it, and apologized profusely about the mix up (I imagine the saran wrap was being used to cover a tray of potatoes or something). OVERALL- Nothing fancy, just good home cooking. I definitely want to go back and check out breakfast. It's funny, we had a $3 off coupon that we got in the mail that we used, however, if we had forgotten it, they had other coupons at the door. Worth checking out if you're in the area. I will first offer a bit of a disclaimer - I dined at The Roost at least partially owing to a gift certificate provided by their parent company as a way of saying "Thanks!" for some feedback I'd provided regarding one of their other restaurants. I arrived at The Roost, a nondescript Fishers breakfast/lunch joint located in a small strip center just east of Allisonville Road off East 116th Street, in the early lunch hour on a Saturday afternoon. I hadn't decided whether breakfast or lunch would be the mission, though I will admit that I tend to find most breakfast/lunch joints to actually be stronger with breakfast. The parking lot has four ADA compliant parking spaces - two on each end of the short building. The two closest to The Roost were taken, but I was able to find a spot in front of Great Clips. You enter the front door of The Roost and you enter the waiting arrow, a narrow aisle/hallway that leads to the hosting area. There's minimal seating, but on this unseasonably warm day most people were waiting outside. I was told that the wait would be around 15-20 minutes. I moved out of the way, a slight challenge given the narrow aisle. As I entered, my heart went aflutter a bit as I encountered a Facebook friend's family whom I'd never met. With a daughter who has autism, the area in which I work professionally, this friend and I share a love of disability rights and approaching life with ample doses of snark. I introduced myself, eventually, because a true introvert never introduces oneself until every other logical response is worked through. I watched as the hostess would call for names and go outside when no one responded. It's an informal procedure, but it seems to work and I never once saw the hostess grimace or groan or do anything but smile. Having lost myself in conversation with this family, I'm not 100% sure how long it took to be seated but I'm sure it was in the 15-20 minute range. The dining area is filled with a ton o' booths, mostly of the wooded variety with some variation in size. There are a few tables on one side of the large dining room and behind another divided off area. I'm generally not picky, beyond wanting access, so we went to the divided off area - unfortunately, one of the diners had to move to allow me access. They were incredibly gracious about it. The same happened on my way out (different diner!). Ahmad was my server, a delightful and personable young man whose relaxed nature was a welcome addition to the meal. He was relaxed, but spot on in terms of service. He took my drink order, the usual unsweetened iced tea, and returned it promptly. I asked if their tenderloin sandwich was a real tenderloin, not a fritter, and if it was actually hand-breaded - this did seem to throw Ahmad off a bit - I think he confused "breaded" with "hand-breaded." Regardless, he answered in the affirmative and appeared to be right as I ordered the tenderloin sandwich ($9.29) that comes with one of 14 sides (I stuck with fries, sort of a shoestring variety along the lines of Steak n' Shake but more browned). I've wrestled with a 4-5 rating, though ultimately I'm leaning toward just shy of perfect. I suppose the accessibility issue deserves the removal of one star - while I deserve access, and the customers were awesome, my access should never have to come at the expense of another diner. I was really grateful they were so awesome about it. I will also admit that I liked this smaller area as I have my own sensory issues and found it rather calming. I also really, really appreciated that the disability wasn't stereotyped as an obstacle - the hostess was definitely on her game. I also wasn't completely sold on the fries, though the tenderloin, on a toasted, knotted bun was better than expected but perhaps a tad overpriced. However, I pretty much loved everything about this experience - from the retro-styled dining atmosphere to the staff/server and even to the customers. While Hamilton County isn't exactly known for its diversity, The Roost was a gathering place that seemed to embrace everyone - I mean, heck, you had a young teen with autism in your midst and not even the busy atmosphere proved jarring for her. That speaks volumes about the entire crew. I received my usual unsweetened iced tea plus one for the road. That was a nice touch, especially considering I'd lingered a few extra minutes to read and had already paid my bill that ran a little over $12. You can definitely eat for less than $10 as I had one of the more expensive meals. While I'm not a regular traveler to Fishers, living in Lawrence myself, The Roost was the kind of place I love - relaxed, friendly, warm and comfortable to those across the full spectrum of life. With a top notch staff and great food reasonably priced, I'll definitely be back. read more

I was so pleased with breakfast here. I am not a big breakfast person, so it takes a lot to wow me. I was wowed. At our server's suggestion, we paid the slight upcharge to get the cinnamon raisin toast instead of white or wheat and it was worth every penny. Homemade, full of plump raisins and lots of cinnamon sugar, it was heaven on a plate. I also had what may have been the best biscuits of my life. I ordered biscuits and gravy and while the gravy was delicious, I think the biscuits were so good they would have been fine all by themselves. They were so buttery and really thick and dense, but somehow not too heavy. I had a side of hash browns and they were fine. They were thickly shredded and well browned, but unseasoned. A dash of salt and ketchup and they got the job done. Our server was not unfriendly, but she did just enough. We laughed when we asked for more napkins and she brought back one. We are a spilling, sloppy family and had already cleaned up one mess. So back she went for more napkins. :-) The atmosphere is not upscale, but nicer than your average diner. Our daughter loved hunting for all the roosters in the decor. We found them on the walls, on a clock, on the bathroom doors, and even as purse hooks inside the bathroom stalls. It's also unfortunate that they won't update their menu online with Google or other places yet keep no menu on their website. Makes it difficult to call in an order, which I'm firm about doing so I don't have to deal with the rude staff much. However, they aren't quick to get you taken care of when you show up to pick up food. You'll have to ask about 10 people before someone cares enough to stop and ring you out. First the food review. We order Corned Beef Hash and eggs, Jose salsa skillet, Biscuits and gravy, Pancake, OJ, tea and coffee. The coffee was fresh with a medium body and smooth to the taste. The sausage gravy was not spicy or over peppered it didn't have a flour taste, very nice flavor. The pancake was light and fluffy. The corn beef and hash was a little on the dry side. Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the plates. My husband was surprised how well the poached eggs were on his Jose skillet. He has no complaints and enjoyed it very much.  Now the staff review. I did observe cleaning in-between customers, restrooms were clean fully stocked and a pleasant and not overwhelming fragrance. I also noticed that none of the servers had on perfume, which can change the flavor of some foods. We never had to ask for refills are server was on it. I don't go to Fishers often, but I needed to grab a quick lunch after renewing my passport at the post office. When I drove past a sign advertising "Fishers' best brunch," I couldn't resist! The decor is charming, with art including dancing breakfast food and the quote, "Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy!" My waiter was very friendly, which put me at ease right away. (Sometimes going out to eat by yourself can feel a little awkward!) I ordered coffee and the Very Veggie omelette (appreciated the option of a two-egg portion size!), with cinnamon raisin toast and cornbread casserole on the side. The toast was delicious - full of flavor and tasted really fresh. I wasn't as impressed with the omelette, but I think I could eat the cornbread casserole everyday. I absolutely love this breakfast spot! If the option to grab some pancakes and bacon presents itself, The Roost comes to mind. I not only enjoy their delicious food, but the restaurant itself is incredibly cozy and the artwork on the walls is a nice addition as well. The service is always spot on and to be honest .. it overall just feels like a hometown-like place to eat. What more could you want? One of my favorite things on the menu is The Daybreak. It consists of all of the breakfast goodies: eggs, bacon and a pancake. (Mind you, the pancake is huge.) My son and his now wife went to the Roost last Thursday to inquire about having a pre-wedding breakfast for their bridal party--which was to take place Saturday July 6. The bridal party consisted of approximately 12 individuals, many of whom flew from various parts of the United States, as well as different countries (i.e. New York, Chicago Illinois, Colorado, California, Florida, as well as South America and Pakistan!) It was my son's wish to treat them to a local eatery which he frequented many times growing up in Fishers (we built our first home here in 1987--we have seen our town grow into a thriving city!) Unfortunately he was denied the opportunity (your manager indicated "no exceptions" to your rule of reserving seating....) Jonathan and Alex Marie visited Another Broken Egg, whose manager also indicated a "no reservation policy"--- especially on Saturday mornings! (Farmers Market, etc)... However, she HAPPILY agreed to accommodate this bridal party who had traveled literally from all over the world to attend this wedding in Fishers! The bridal party met at 8:00 am and were transported to the Balmoral House at 9:30 am.... they had a delightful breakfast with amazing attention... these folks will indeed remember their breakfast in downtown Fishers.... We have eaten at all the Sahm's restaurants over the past 32 years, ordered coffee cakes, and enjoyed catering from Sahm's.... our family unfortunately will no longer attend your eateries... and we will share our story with our friends as well.... read more

The wife and I stopped in on a Sunday morning to continue our breakfast/brunch tour of Indy. We LOVE rockstone pizza and live right by Sahms Place, but unfortunately neither of those are open at 8am (although Sahms does do brunch later in the day) We arrived about 8 and were seated immediately. As quickly as we could order it, coffee was at the table. We debated a while, but both settled on pancakes. I went with my token choice of bacon in the cakes and added a poached egg. I'm going to start with the egg: 100% perfectly poached. The cakes...tasted weird. They didn't taste bad, but they wouldn't make me want to come back. After eating I saw some egg dishes come out with sides of bread and remembers the yelp reviews talking about homemade bread. I think your best bet here is probably eggs with bread. Unfortunately, we had great service but I can't award more than 3 stars based on those mediocre pancakes. But, we promised ourselves we would try them again and eat eggs and homemade bread. read more

I came here for some late morning brunch. We got there at prime time and it was only a 10-15 minute wait - not bad at all! Our service was great, and our food came out relatively quickly. I got the Very Veggie Omelette (has cream cheese on the inside - very good) and a side of cinnamon toast and fruit. I also tried the cornbread casserole - it was different. Some bites were delicious; others were not. My omelette was great with the cream cheese but it was also very very greasy. I can still feel my stomach trying to figure out how to process the amount of grease I had. It was still good though! It's a relatively normal "diner-esque" style place that was a great way to satisfy my morning hangriness. It was moderately cheap and a quick,easy experience. Would I be back? Yes!
