We visited this locals' favorite on a Sunday, early afternoon. Taking advantage of the brunch/lunch options, we ordered the Texas Cheesesteak and Texas Breakfast. Both were underwhelming, and failed to deliver on taste. The highlight of our visit was the Down the Hatch, an espresso based drink with vanilla and sweet cream. The dining room is small, and the team was struggling to keep it clean even though traffic was moderate. I was frustrated when I was unable to pour my tea ... the spout was at a trickle. [Update: 12/07/2025] Another fantastic brunch at Rooted Fork. I was greeted by the pleasant, diligent staff member Kaylee, who was both friendly and very accommodating. She knew the menu well and recommended great options based on what I like. After I ordered, she checked in to make sure everything was to my liking and, without me even asking, brought over boxes and a bag for leftovers. I laughed and told her, "You read my mind!" Food-wise, I highly recommend the Steak Hash (hold the salsa verde if you are spice-sensitive like me) and the white chocolate latte. There is a drink station. They give you your mug with coffee that the counter, but you can get refills at the drink station I ordered the sesame ginger salad. It came with shrimp and avocado. The salad was so good. It did get kind of spicy towards the end due to the ginger, but definitely a great choice. It was big and the salad had enough shrimp. Since it was Mothers Day we decided to get takeout. Our tradition is crab eggs benedict but since no one in the converse has this dish, we ordered eggs benedict no ham and bought a crab cake from HEB. Well, not great, The hollandaise sauce was broken, meaning the butter was separated from the sauce. The potatoes were also not completely done. So we each ate one and saved one. I went to the grocery and bought a hollandaise sauce packet from Knorr's. I whipped that up the next morning and it was so easy and perfect. We also put the potatoes in the oven to make them crispy and cooked. So, I guess I will be making my own eggs benedict. read more

On this adventure, I find myself in Cibola at the "Rooted Fork". I try not to be overly critical about a place but this restaurant has nothing to worry about. Because the breakfast they served was by far one of the best, the flavor was delicious, the presentation was excellent. But let's start from the beginning, the restaurant is situated in an older home and that character gives this place an inviting warmth. As you walk in you see the menu above the counter and a good amount of seating. The person behind the counter was very helpful and answered all questions about the menu. The item I chose was the "Steakhouse Forky" and that was absolutely delicious. The steak was wonderfully prepared it was probably one of the best breakfast I've had in a while, the cheese and various vegetables mixed in were a delicious combination and it paired wonderfully with the tater tots. I accompanied my meal with a cup of coffee and it too was skillfully prepared, good aroma and taste. Overall this place is very good. The people that keep this place going were wonderful and cordial, bringing the right amount of coffee and all with a wonderful atmosphere. read more

I hate it when places don't have a diverse choice of breakfast meats. They up charge for chicken. And it was too dang bland. They got the order wrong when it came out. When Rooted fork first opened up I thought it was a great small neighborhood place to eat. Enjoyed going there. Food is good. Prices are reasonable. Service is good. The only reason I'm giving only one star is because the last couple of times the flies have been terrible. I'm not exaggerating. Last time just at our table (inside) there were at least three flies buzzing and landing on our food the entire time. I could see other tables having the same issue with the flies. Hard to enjoy a meal when you are constantly chasing away flies away from your food. Makes me wonder what the flies are getting into in the kitchen and ultimately in the food. I live in the area, trying this place for the first time. Was super excited! The atmosphere was nice and homey. It is not a typical sit down and being waited on type of breakfast place. You order at the front counter and the server brings you the food. The regular coffee wasn't strong enough and the rim of the mug was dirty. I ordered an Americano instead. That was good. I ordered the big daddy omelette. The meat could have been cooked a little more, but that's probably my fault because I didn't ask for well done. They don't have wheat toast and I don't eat potatoes and there was nothing I could substitute for that, so all I really had was the omelette. I paid about $30 for my omelette and coffee. Sadly I won't be returning for another try. read more

The Lil Fork is the perfect breakfast plate, the ham slice is perfect, makes me wish it was Thanksgiving & Christmas already. Potatoes are perfectly crispy on the outside. Genuinely no complaints. The Banana Foster Pancakes was super sweet & delicious. The bananas were warm & caramelized. The Forky Bowl was good, my husband liked it a lot! The tater tots were crispy and my husband liked the chives on top. Food was mediocre at best and overpriced. I got the Texas Breakfast. Eggs were over cooked, Texas toast was cold. Texas toast should not even be served with breakfast either. Potatoes was just ok. I have definitely had better. The bacon was the only food I liked on my plate. Also they use to have flavored creams for your coffee and milk/creamer in a cold carafe. All they have now is to go half and half containers. That's all you get for coffee that costs $3.64 per cup. I've been here a few times but may not go back. The inside is really small, but they do have seating outside, in the porch and on the grass in front. There is a ramp on one side of the building, but the doors are narrow and always opening, cause they bring your meal out the front door. I don't ever just hand out five stars, but this place is good. I can't even lie. I've been to a couple of breakfast spots in the entire San Antonio area and I will say there's not too many spots who actually have good flavorful food. I can tell that somebody is in the kitchen seasoning, the food and you're not just eating plain eggs with no salt or pepper on it. I love how it's a super cute, small interior very intimate and then if you go alone, which I usually do, I eat by myself I have an area where I can sit away from everyone. I had brunch with a friend and was recommended as few items by the staff both the biscuits and gravy and the steak hash. I opted for the steak hash which came out super quick. And it was hands down amazingly delicious! All the components were seasoned beautifully and the housemade sauce on top makes it. The food is special. It's different than I've tasted in this area. The atmosphere is good and homie. When they aren't busy at the counter and back of the house/kitchen, they usually greet customers as they enter the door. The food is 8/10. It's a pretty quick place to grab some brunch and I can see that they're probably crazy busy on weekends. The tea is good, the place is relatively clean, the grit bowl was good just a little too salty, and the biscuits and gravy (also very salty!!!) were 7/10. The only thing that really made me like "I won't go back" is the checkout. There are three options for this non-full service restaurant. 20% tip. 25% tip. 30 yes I said 30% tip. It's insanity at its best and the tipping culture has lost its mind. I tip well; 20-25% for full service. For this, I'd typically tip 15-18%. For that reason, they've lost our business. read more
