I've heard nothing but great stories about the Roxy so I went there for my birthday. I came in through the back and had a hard time finding the counter to be seated. I watched as employees would pass me and not even acknowledge me. I would up in a side/back room where there were hangers for jackets and a desk for staff, but no one came to speak with me as I stood there waiting. After wandering around for 10 minutes, I made it through the bar where another counter was. I was finally seated in the front, near the kitchen (which later make my clothing smell like burnt food until I washed everything. I ordered a ribeye steak served medium. It was not a busy day whatsoever. I was served what was once a slab of meat, now turned into charcoal. I took a bite thinking maybe I don't know my food (sarcasm) and my suspicions were confirmed. This steak was destroyed beyond repair. I summoned the waitress and showed her, offered her a piece, then sent back my steak. I ended my service at the Roxy and drove to Appleton for a trustworthy restaurant. I get that others like this place and that I've been told this isn't normal, but it's been 4 years now and I still haven't gone back because of this one experience. read more

After a facebook post to family and friends, a reply to try Roxy's came in. Friday night had a load of fish specials, including salmon and frog legs. We had the pecan chicken and salmon, both were amazing. The chicken included soup and a salad and homemade warm rolls and garlic toast. The salmon came with coleslaw. There were about 8 ways to have potatoes, and I had wild rice that was just wonderful. Service was fast--we were told we'd have to wait 30 minutes, but it was less than 10--and our waitress was fast, friendly and flawless. If you find yourself in Oshkosh, it's worth the drive into town for a delicious, sit-down meal--and worth it to got to Roxy's. Went here for lunch on a Saturday at 1 and it was very nice. They have a decent lunch menu with interesting options and plenty of seating for groups. Friendly and courteous waitstaff as well. Lots of traffic through this establishment on a Saturday afternoon and very busy (but available) staff, which all speaks to their popularity in the area. My dining group had the Reuben which was substantial and tasty, the deep fried Chicken Little Rock which was excellent, the Stuffed tenderloin Sicilian which was amazing. We happened upon this place by accident after having to leave another lunch option that was way too crowded and noisy. This was a much better option if you actually want to talk to your dining companions. Also, the bar had a very cool atmosphere and was pretty popular. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the front dining room decor felt a bit outdated; maybe they spruce it up for the dinner crowd. As far as dining within the confines of Oshkosh, you are not going to find much better than the Roxy. The Vintage over on Washburn is my absolute favorite, but the Roxy finishes a VERY close second. The food, service and cocktails here are spectacular and incredibly consistent. I have probably been here at least 12 times since I moved to town and I have yet to have a bad experience. The Roxy is pretty much an institution to the locals (I guess I am sorta local now at this point) and for very good reason. As to what to order, the generalized theme is as a steak/chop house which is what I tend to order when I visit. Firstly, because I am a carnivore like that (Om nom nom), and second, because their meat is sensational. Anybody that uses A1 or Heniz 57 in this place should be dragged out to the street and shot. The filets you can practically cut with a fork. They do have a very large and diverse menu to choose from if you are not in the mood for steak. The seafood Cioppino is a wonderful choice, as is Cordon Bleu. This is also among the best around for doing the Friday Fish Fry thing. The Perch rocks. If you come here on Sunday for their brunch, be sure to either call ahead or show up early, as it is like a three ring circus in the place by noon. They also have Prime Rib on Sunday that is spectacular. The only nod I give to the Vintage over the Roxy as my favorite restaurant in Oshkosh has to do with the wine selection. Some people might not care about this, but I am not one of those some people. It's not that the Roxy's selection sucks, as they have most anything a person could want for a decent pairing, but the Vintage has a wine list that is FAR more extensive. Overall, you really can't beat this place for a night of dining out. If you show up here when it is busy (which is pretty much constantly on the weekends) the service will be slower just like anywhere, but you are almost certain to have a fantastic meal. read more

I went for breakfast and I didn't think much of the restaurant. The scrambled eggs are cooked in advance and held over a hot plate. They were clearly jelled when they came out and had a strong sulfur taste. To their credit they offered to make them over fresh but my stomach was already turned to eggs. For them to not know that the eggs were bad reveals a lack of something. The pancakes were similarly bad. They absorbed a lot of butter and syrup and wound up just tasting sweet. First let me say that I am a regular at The Roxy, I have been for years. Sadly I will seriously think about returning after last night's meal. My wife and I sat at the bar to eat on a busy Friday night, my steak and fried onions were great at usual. The shock came when my son ate my leftovers late Friday evening, in the fried onions was a rose gold, dime sized nose ring! Our waitress as we remembered did gave a lot of facial piercings, don't know if she or someone in the kitchen lost it, I called The Roxy, they said they would talk to the waitress and the kitchen staff, but otherwise they where very unapologetic. I am sorry but in this time of high restaurant prices, inflation and lack of restaurant workers restaurants must strive to keep their standards high. My wife and I went there for lunch for the first time today. Nice big bar, nice atmosphere overall. Friendly bartender, friendly waitress. Off to a great start. My wife had the fried shrimp with a side of broccoli. Beautiful large shrimp nicely breaded, not too much breading and not greasy. A large serving as well. She was very very pleased with how everything tasted. They had Italian dishes also. House made spaghetti and sauce with sausage or meatballs. I had the sausage. Huge pile of food with two whole sweet Italian sausages (with fennel seed I might ad... the way it should be). Really excellent dish great flavor. We both took home leftovers. Great spot. I'm never walking in this place again! tried to go there on Saturday afternoon with two others. there were only a few people there. we were told that without a reservation we'd have to wait til 8:30! it was 4:20! total bs. where were all these people? no line, only a few at the bar and only a few tables full. they need someone who knows how to actually manage a restaurant. The food here is good, not good enough to compensate for the wait. I've been coming here since the 80s with my parents so I've had plenty of experience with the establishment. I've really had enough with the lack of management. If you have a reservation you will be given a beeper and afforded the opportunity to wait for nearly an hour AFTER your reservation to be seated. WOW- And I don't say that in a positive way. I will summarize my review for the lazy folks, then explain in case you still want to eat here. If you are older than 80: GO! You will LOVE this place and many other octogenarians will be there for socializing. Plus you probably have lost a good amount of your taste buds by now, so it doesn't matter what the food tastes like. If you were born and raised in Oshkosh and have never left the area: GO! You can hang out with a lot of your friends and drink for cheap all morning. Plus your friend's grandparents will be there so you can say Hi. Annnndddd, given the other limited choices in the area, you wont know any better. If you prefer quality over quantity: GO! You can stuff down as much bland tasting food covered in cheese as you can get your hands on. You will be in heaven. If you have eaten anywhere outside the state of Wisconsin or in any city anywhere: Don't go. You will be confused by what they call food. Although, if you want your out-of-state friends to get a good laugh at what a Supper club calls food- bring em' and laugh it up! If you were raised anywhere other than NE WI, enjoy food that is smaller than the size of your head, think cheese should be served in 4 oz sizes or smaller, prefer Starbucks or DD coffee or a latte, dont understand why food must be served all mashed together in a skillet: RUN! RUN! RUN! Review: Ambiance- There are so few windows (if any) that this place reminds me of a strip club for the elderly. The bar (not the bar top, but the place where you should be able to hang your purse) is carpeted. Yes, there is a brown rug that runs from the floor to underneath the bar. WTF?!?!? Bloody Marys are made from the industrial size can of tomato juice- the type of can that you need to poke two holes in the top so air will help the "juice" flow. Bleh. Veggie breakfast skillet with scrambled (?) eggs contained numerous vegetables, but sadly, they all were mushy and tasted the same. Broccoli, asparagus and tomatoes shouldn't taste the same. And then the cheese- lordy! I swear my cholesterol level tripled at the table, and I only at 1/4 of the skillet. My husband (who is a sucker for trying sh*t he has never eaten, tried the spaghetti frittata. Spaghetti mixed with eggs and baked. huh. What would have thought- DEFINITELY NOT ME! The side of dumplings appears to be potatoes with cheese and more scrambled egg- but since it didn't taste like anything, I really could decipher the ingredients. A Saturday night hot mess. Our table was seated near the server's station and one of the kitchen doors. At that proximity, it was like being near a dramatic reality tv show, as we were treated to all of the servers' drama and infighting. Each table receives complimentary bread, which is offered as a small soft loaf with a bread board and knife; strangely, crackers for soup are literally under the loaf in the bread basket. Odd. I ordered the prime rib sandwich, thinking that it'd be a great option since prime rib was a special that night. How wrong I was. The prime rib sandwich was an unappetizing brown-grey shredded mess. How is it possible for the sandwich meat to be considered in the same category as the prime rib entree? The prime rib sandwich was more akin to a loose meat or cheesesteak sandwich than prime rib. I barely ate the sandwich and instead at my baked potato side (which was fine, fortunately). In addition, one diner had her food almost taken from her on two occasions during the same meal. The server didn't ask the customer if she was done eating yet, and so the customer had to almost wrestle the plate back. I found the experience especially insulting at these prices, but it would have been bad service (and in my case, bad food) anywhere. read more

We were in town for the annual EAA Convention and had plans to meet up with someone whom I hadn't seen in over 20 years. She recommended The Roxy which I had never heard of before. They don't take reservations during EAA but I called ahead about 90 minutes prior to arriving and they agreed to place me on the waiting list. Unfortunately, the downtown area is completely under construction and the main street right in front of The Roxy is closed. This made getting there a bit of a challenge, but we finally found parking about a half block from the front door. Upon entering, I immediately noticed that the place is half bar and half dining room. The decor is right out of 1977. I knew I should have worn my favorite plaid slacks (that matches my '76 deVille parked out front), zipper boots, wide tie and fadora -- old school supper club to be sure. We were seated almost immediately (thanks to calling ahead) and reviewed the menu over the first of several cocktails. Both the soup and salad were excellent. Their brandy old fashioned cocktails were muy bueno as well. It was nice to be able to order a brandy old fashioned without being looked at strangely. Most bartenders don't even know what one is. I ordered the prime rib which was perfect. Flavor was excellent and it was delivered tableside medium rare just as I ordered it. I passed on dessert because I was stuffed, but if dessert is anything like the entrees, I'm sure it would have been excellent. Prices were moderate considering what you got. The wait staff was friendly and the service timely. When it was time to pay up, our check was delivered to the table and were were told to report to the counter to settle our tab. Very old school indeed. All in all, a great night out with great friends at a great restaurant with a great old school supper club atmosphere. In Oshkosh for a short stay, the Roxy Supper Club was highly recommended by a couple of locals we asked, and oh man what a GREAT recommendation. 4 of us showed up and even though they were fairly busy we were seated and greeted immediately. Our server Beth and trainee Pete were great. Our app was delivered promptly and the meal courses were appropriately timed. 2 of the guys ordered salads with bleu cheese and there were extra crumbles on the salad, what s great touch. We all ordered prime rib and a couple of the guys ordered the shrimp & Prime Rib and the shrimp were lightly breaded and perfectly prepared, the Prime Rib was served at the exact temp we ordered. We had an occasion to visit the Roxy recently with my wife's elderly mother. We went for an early lunch so the restaurant was not crowded. We were seated immediately and told we could select any table (none were restricted for distancing, apparently). This is a favorite restaurant of our family's, so we knew the meal would be great. It was. Our server was friendly, attentive, and clearly knew her stuff. The only problem we encountered was that this server arrived at a table masked but with the mask coming no where near covering her nose. It's not like it had slipped because it stayed that way the entire time we were there and she made no effort to fix it. There's no way her manager could not have known about this. In fairness, other waitstaff and other personnel we observed were properly masked. Only our server was not and I was quite uncomfortable with her cavalier attitude concerning our health. Someone should explain to this otherwise exemplary server that wearing a mask as she does is little better than not wearing one at all. I think I'll not be returning to the Roxy until the COVID risk has passed into history. read more

I made a reservation at this restaurant for a Friday night. Unfortunately, we were running late; therefore, I called the restaurant and told the hostess we were late. It was approximately 7:05 and our reservation was for 7:00. We made it to the place around 7:15. When I told the hostess we'd arrived, she very rudely told me she had given the table away. I told her we called. She then turned to another hostess, who I can only assume was new, and asked if she had been the one who talked to me. The hostess replied, yes. Nobody wrote it down. She told us she'd get us in. Didn't really apologize. So we sat at the bar and got terrible service from two rude bartenders. Then we were seated in the corner of the restaurant where there was a private Christmas party going on... Our waitress was lovely and the food was good, but my impressions of the hostess and bartenders weren't great. We had our wedding dinner there. I was very happy with the food however after having it planned for 4 months for 50 people we got there and the head table wasn't set up. The room wasn't air conditioned at first. And my guests had to stand and wait while we straightened up with them on how it needed to be. However They apologized and made it right which was cool. She kept everything moving at a very reasonable pace and was very helpful with everything. Her personality was amazing and had us laughing all night. I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands here, but I'm not a huge fan of the Roxy. While they are an excellent example of that Wisconsin staple, the supper club, to call themselves "fine dining" is a bit of a stretch, in my book. The dining room is reasonably new, but not remotely modern, and the servers all look like they've worked there for at least thirty years. Which is not a bad thing -- they're all very nice and know the menu well. But the customers have all clearly been coming here their entire lives, so be prepared to be the youngest person in the room, possibly by decades! The menu is fairly varied, but ultimately a lot of it is pretty basic. The boyfriend's chicken Caesar salad was fine, though a bit bland, and there was an odd glaze on the chicken that he never identified. My shrimp Louie salad was awfully sweet, and contained a fair amount of iceberg lettuce. While it was ok, I won't be jumping at the chance to eat here again. read more
