Me and my wife recently checked out the store to see where they had to offer. This is a cute little store though it primarily sells shoes and custom fittings with their cool machine next to the door. They also sell great quality socks and other Runner accessories as well. Staff here was very friendly and we're eager to help us out upon walking in. I just came off of running a half marathon in Florida and needed new running shoes. My original pair had a enough miles on them it was time to say bye bye. While I was running the race I noticed numerous people with Brooks shoes. I went in to Running Depot on a Monday night to try on the Brooks Ghosts and wasn't disappointed. Both ladies that worked there were really nice and gave me some great info. Since they didn't have the color I wanted in stock they ordered it for me and they came in a week later. It was perfect timing since I needed to take a week break from running the marathon. My Brooks are way better than what I had and I will be returning to Running Depot. read more

They do it proper here. Before you go to Dick's or a similar sports store, give running depot a try. All effort is focused on finding the perfect shoe for you using a combination of different exercises that evaluate supination and pronation etc. Even better, I never walk out breaking the bank but always with a good shoe. read more

Went into this store because they carried the Brooks Pure line which are not carried at the big box stores. Reminded me of the stores I frequented on the North Side of Chicago. Small, professional boutique type places which cater to real athletes. I think it was the owner who helped fit me, but I'm not sure. She was obviously a runner and in good shape. She used the pressure pad and I walked on the treadmill and walla I was fitted. They also carry all types of minimalist shoes and the prices are about the same as Zappos. How refreshing to find an alternative to those piece of crap big box retailers in the burbs (Que drama) which are everywhere ruining the quality of my life ! Pam, the owner, is great with shoe selection. She has a computer that analizes your food and then watches your running style and can help and not oversell you. She is also quite involved in the community and hosts a running group on Saturday's with a great group of friendly runners of all skill levels. My wife is a walker, and she unfortunately loves to go in there and buy stuff. I am a TriAthlete and I find myself in there buying this and that. The selection of clothing is specific to Running, and she is equipped to help you with warm or cold attire. She does not have Triathlon specific gear ( I would recommend Runners High and Tri in Arlington Heights) If you are in the market for shoes, this is the place to go instead of Sports Authority etc. You will pay the same amount of money, and then have the correct shoe which makes all the difference. read more

This store is more than just the standard running store. It specializes in service. Buying shoes is not a 5 minute process, they are dedicated to making sure you have the right shoe for your needs and the right fit. They also do a lot more than just sell shoes, they offer running classes, will hook you up with a private running coach if needed. Several times a month there are special seminars with guest speakers ranging from famous runners to women's self defense. This is not a store it is a community. Everyone is friendly and encouraging. Stop by for the shoes, but be sure to ask what else they have going, chances are there is something that will interest you. read more

Deciding that I needed a better pair of running shoes, I went to The Running Depot in hopes of a better experience than going into a big box store in the area. What they lack in shoe selection they make up for in knowledge and can suggest the right shoe for you! The employee working had me walk about ten feet in the store to see how I walked and suggested multiple shoes to fit my needs. When I asked her about the shoes she suggested and what they'll do to better my run, she had a great answer that made sense. She was extremely patient and helpful, which means a lot since I am a beginner and have very little knowledge. Don't be fooled by the name, either. If you're not into running but need a comfortable pair of shoes for walking this is still an excellent place to go! Update: 9/13 Went there again to get another pair or running shoes recently and explained to them what happened to my running shoes I bought here the previous time did. She had me stand on the pressure sensor machine to see my arches and had me run on the treadmill shortly to watch my gait and how I landed on my feet AND watched me walk through the store to see how I walked and then made a suggestion. The shoes fit great, better than the previous pair and I've worn them for probably just as long as the other ones when they started wearing inside badly. No wear on these. Must have just been a bad fitting last time, the owner fitted me this time. Like Kate said "What they lack in quantity the make up for in quality". Definitely check them out if you're not opposed to spending a little more to get something that will really work for you. read more

I love to run outdoors for exercise and finally took the plunge to invest in some real running shoes. When I came to this store I was greeted immediately and helped. He asked a couple a questions which would determine my shoe type and came out with several shoes. They don't just rely on you saying that it fits well. They carefully watch how you are walking in them and adjust if needed. I've seen people who actually take running more seriously be tested on the treadmill and other various equipment to determine how you run and place your feet. They are very professional and informative. They have classes and have all the info you need on all types of races in the NW suburbs. Their store not only sells shoes, but socks, clothing, accessories, electrolyte gel packs, etc. Go here for your running gear! read more

The Runnung Depot has a very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional staff. I was intimidated to walk in there as a new runner but that quickly dissipated as soon as they greeted me. They measured my feet, checked my gait, arches etc and recommended a few pairs of shoes. I walked out with a great pair of Brooks. They do so much more than any big box store would do. After going there a couple times, I realized that they have fun runs, clinics, training groups etc. They really seem to be part of the community rather than just someone who set up a shop there. If you are a new runner, don't be intimidated, you wont regret walking in there. You may even become a better runner because of it! read more

The Running Depot offers high quality products at reasonable prices. We were very pleased with the Asics Gel 3030's that I bought for my daughter. The staff is not only friendly but has a diverse and excellent competency/skill set. They will perform an individual running analysis if you sign up for their natural stride class. Many of the staff have impressive running/fitness credentials which gives them better insight into helping fit the needs of customers. The attention to detail and willingness to assist the individual make the shopping experience excellent and different from other stores. The store offers running clubs and their passion for helping people is second to none. The Running Depot is number one in overall value (considering service and quality) by far and I highly recommend them! read more

Love this place! Every time I need new workout shoes I come here. Been coming here for over 3 years now. The customer service is great, the shoes are so comfortable, and you get fitted based on your stride. Not your typical shoe store. Been to this CL store before for miscellaneous items, but this is my first time for shoe purchase two weeks ago. I had received a gift certificate and was looking to get a new pair of running shoes. After performing my feet and gait analysis, Mackenzie was courteous and listened to my needs/concerns from my personal shoe wear history. She was knowledgeable about the multiple brands and styles she had me try on, plus made sure I was comfortable with my selection process. She also identified that historically I have been purchasing too small of shoe size which impacted performance. I ended up purchasing a pair of Brooks Adrenaline G17 shoes and after completing two 5K races thus far, they meet my expectations and feel fantastic - many thanks! read more

My experience was not a great one. I was looked at like i didn't belong there. I wanted a new pair of shoes. I love Saucony. The gentleman who helped just didn't educate me to well on any of the shoes, didn't ask me what I was using it for, and didn't put me on the treadmill. He was looking at me like wow this is such waste of time. I am so disappointed in this store I may not look like I am in shape, but I am on my way. I thought I would have had better experience here. I went to Dick Pond Before and was treated way better. They watched my gait and did other things. I guess I will have to travel to Dick Pond from here on out, because I got way better service there. read more

I heard about The Running Depot in a Fitbit forum about a year ago but put it off until now. Tired of buying shoes I was not satisfied with after I got them home. Pam, the owner, waited on me. Asked me about any issues I have, measured and checked arch and watched me walk. Started with a couple pairs to try, walked on treadmill, tried some more. I have wide feet! She probably spent at least 30 mins with me. Settled on a pair and then decided to ask price. You might want to do that early on if you are on a budget! Checked them out for the first time to pick up a new pair of running shoes. I ran competitively in high school for four years and now I wish I had this store. Staff went out of their way to help me get a good fit on the shoes and was very pleased with the purchase. They analyzed my foot and so far the shoe has been very comfortable. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. They spend a lot of time helping you find the best running shoe for your needs. You can even test out the shoes on their treadmill before you buy them. The selection is on the smaller side but what they lack in quantity the make up for in quality. They offer a great customer loyalty program and even have discounts for local health club members. Went there twice. First time for myself. Needed new shoes. Sales gal was nice but a little annoyed that I didn't like the shoes or how they fit. But hey, you want to make sure they fit well if you're dropping $150+ for running shoes. Small variety of shoe color and sizes. Transaction was ok. Second time, I came in with my husband for his shoes. Salesperson was a high school kid. He also looked annoyed. He brought out 3 pairs of shoes all various sizes and shapes. Again, we felt rushed and his shoes were $160+. If you know what shoes you want come here. If you are new to running, consider this: the right shoes are key but don't let a salesperson rush you out of the store. read more

Amazing! I asked the Running Depot If they could assist me in determining why my nine year old son was having pain and difficulty with sprinting. I never expected the thorough, thoughtful and detailed evaluation he received. We had the pleasure or working with Cari who was genuinely interested in my son and spent a great deal of time not just listening to him explain how he felt but really communicating with him. From having him warm up with some stretching, to walking and eventually doing sprints she was attentive and thorough in her approach to her evaluation. She video taped him walking, jogging and sprinting, both outside and on a treadmill. With the video playback, she was able to pinpoint issues she saw, point them out to us and make suggestions to help him. From the warm greeting you receive when you walk through the door to the knowledgable and friendly demeanor of the staff, the Running Depot certainly scores an A+++ read more

I like to support local businesses so both my husband I went to the Running Depot several times. My husband reported that on his first visit the employee didn't really assist him with his shoe selection at all. I felt the same when I went in there, they couldn't be bothered to help me in the least. Today we both went in there and my husband asked if they had a pair of certain shoes in his size. The clerk said no and made no offer to assist him in finding anything else. After spending several hundred dollars in this store we have had enough with the bad customer service and will drive a half hour to Roadrunner Sports in Kildeer. read more

This place is really great and the prices are not bad! I went through buying 3 pairs of shoes and returning 3 pairs of shoes at other stores. FINALLY, I went here and found the perfect shoe for my foot. Amazing difference! I ran 3.5 miles right away with no foot pain or knee pain. What a relief! They have a gait analysis and a treadmill to test the shoes out. The "bad" shoes that I had purchased were at another name brand shoe store in Crystal Lake that claim they are Professionals, but the store workers are no more than high school/community college individuals. I highly doubt they are real professionals. I spent less and got better results at the Running Depot than at that other Name Brand store in Crystal Lake! read more

I first discovered The Running Depot about 10 years ago. Since then I have never bought my running shoes from anywhere else. The staff there is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, they want to make sure your feet are happy! This past calendar year my running has been fairly non-existent due to medical issues. I have just started running a tiny bit again and decided new shoes were in order. One of the medications I am on causes a chronic burning sensation in my feet; I explained this to Pam, the owner of the store and she went above and beyond in helping me find the best shoes for my feet! I am so excited to start running again and even more so because my burning feet are very happy in their new comfy shoes Pam helped me find!! The Running Depot has very knowledgeable staff. I have purchased shoes from other running stores and ended up with injuries, but every time I am fitted for shoes at the RD I never have issues. The owner even scans your feet on a fancy machine to determine your foot type, then has you try on several pairs and checks the way you walk to be sure they are suitable. I had no idea I was wearing the wrong type of shoe before coming here, and now it's the only place I go. The location is great (scenic downtown Crystal Lake) and the running groups are friendly. I would recommend this store to everyone- from casual runners to experienced marathoners. read more

This place is awesome! I started training for my first marathon back in October and I went in to get fitted for a pair of shoes. Not only did they test me and set me up with a great pair of shoes, they also gave me a lot of great tips for the marathon. I went back recently to buy a new pair for the race and pick up some other gear. Each time I've gone in I met with Tyler who is extremely knowledgeable and can answer any question you might have. I went with my husband to buy a pair of running shoes. A great experience! The gentleman that assisted him analyzed his feet on a computer then filmed him running on a treadmill. From there, he hand-picked a number of shoes based on his running style and body mechanics. They needed to special order his shoes in the end and they were ready in just a few days. Prices are good and customer service impeccable. It was nice to feel welcomed even though neither of us consider ourselves "hard core" runners. My husband even received a hand-written note in the mail thanking him for his purchase. It's nice supporting local businesses and with this store in our community, why would you even bother with a larger, chain athletic gear store? I renewed my walking/running activity earlier this year after a few years of absence. I spent several months wearing shoes from one of the local discount stores. My daughter suggested I visit the Running Depot because she wanted me to get a good pair of shoes. I'm amazed at how much better I feel with a pair of shoes that fit properly. They provide plenty of room for my toes, they fit like a glove, and they provide correct support. I broke my ankle 10 years ago and Kari paid particular attention to my gait to choose the right shoe.
