Holy Cow - nice home style breakfast, well prepared, big portions and excellent service

Absolutely a great breakfast spot. First visit. Welcomed right away and offered choice of table or booth. As soon as we sat down we were asked about our drinks. My granddaughter had the Biscuits and Gravy. She said it was some of the best she's had and she has had it more then a few times. I had the Steak and eggs. First the steak was bigger then some I've had other places for dinner. Medium Rare and almost perfect. Eggs good. Hash Browns cooked extra crispy, on both sides, PERFECT. Rye toast, sliced thick like Texas toast. I couldn't have wished for better service. Not sure it could have gotten any better. Everything was jot and fresh. Now this may not be of any interest to most of you, Unless you're a Mt. Dew Fan. And it sounds crazy, like McD's coke. This was the BEST DEW I've ever been served. I'm thinking that they have the syrup turned up some. Looking forward to the next time I'm in the area. read more

I was in the area after visiting a sunflower farm in Lino Lakes. The place is clean and has that fun old look of cafeterias in the country. Service was great since I entered and the waitress was attentive and nice. I ordered the Hot Steer: sliced roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. I asked for rye bread on the side. Just moved to Circle Pines and wanted to check out local businesses. I love a neighborhood cafe, so we decided to try this place after reading reviews. The decor is simple. The staff greeted my husband and I, and it didn't take too long to be seated even though it was a little busy. Reviews said wait time was pretty quick so I wasn't worried. Took a long time for waitress to come for our drink order. We ended up ordering our food. Two relatively easy breakfasts nothing fancy. We sat and watched 3 different tables that came after us get served their food, so I asked if it would be much longer and she said something, "We're busy, it'll be out when we can get it to you ". Um...okay. So another table is served (that came after ours) then our food comes. Food was good. But other than that...I'm not sure we will be back. Over an hour for eggs, sausage, and pancakes, and coffee. Our bill was almost $50 with the tip. And the wait time wouldn't have bothered me as much if she simply checked in or wasn't rude about it. I was not rude when I asked her at all. It was a logical question. Anyway....i really wanted to like this place but I wont be hurrying back to give them another try to see if it was just an off day, which anyone can have. We'll see. read more

Thought we would try this spot as we were visiting from out of town First let me compliment the music selection. Early 80's not too loud but very tasteful. I ordered the everything omelette. It comes with.... well..... everything. I've had omelette before. I really like them. I've had omelettes with ham and tomatoes and green peppers and cheese and and. I don't know what it was but this was one of the best omelettes I've ever had. Can't figure out why it was so good. Fresh vegetables maybe? Service was great. Portion size great. I came here with Leah S. who introduced me to here and she wanted to try it. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. I settled on a senior eggs benedict, which is a half. It had ham which was a little over done, but tasted ok and wasn't tough. The egg was just right. It had a hollandaise mix, but they told me up front so it was my choice. A delicious iced tea. Hashed browns were whiter than white. A great staff. I'll definitely come back, they have a very full menu. Was very busy but got seated right away and a drink order was placed so we could wait and chat rather than stand around the front entry for a long time. Food was amazing with larger portions for the price. The wait staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. Was so happy to find a new breakfast spot. We are moving into the area and were looking for a breakfast place to try. We went on a Sunday around 11 AM and the place was busy but we didn't have any wait. There were a few tables still available for people to sit even after we sat down. This would have been a 5 star review because the food was really good. My wife is very particular about her pancakes and most places do not make them with any flavor but she loved their pancakes. The portions were big and the loaded hashbrowns had a ton of bacon on top for only 3 dollars more. The reason this is a 1 star review is because my wife looked at her soda cup after drinking half of it through the straw and saw lip stick impression on the cup from someone drinking directly from the cup. This was absolutely disgusting because it means they are not washing their utensils/cups/plates through the dishwasher if they look clean. I have had silverware at a restaurant where it goes through the wash and it still has food particulars on it but this clearly never made it to the dishwasher. Especially in this day of Covid, you would think they would spend more time making sure everything is clean. The worst part is after we brought it up to the waitress, she came back with a new soda and told us she spoke with the manager and he was not willing to give any compensation because a $12 lipstick will not come off the cup in the dishwasher. We never asked for any compensation and then to come give us a sad story like that made me even madder. We would recommend to anyone not to come to this restaurant if you want to make sure you don't get sick. Honestly they should be reported to the Health Inspection to make sure they are not making everyone sick. You never know what they are doing in the back behind closed doors. read more

Tried this new restaurant for breakfast on a Monday 5/17. The four of us were quickly seated by a funny gentleman. 'The server arrived within minutes and was fun, engaging and personable. The food was fantastic, orders arrived quickly and tasteful. The main highlight was our server Kendie, she enjoyed joking with our family and made the experience one to be repeated. WILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND BE BACK. read more

The Rusty Cow is a great place to dine in the Circle Pines area! We went for lunch. The staff is very nice and the food was delicious! Yummy burgers, specialty sandwiches, cheese curds, salads and desserts are just some of the goodies on the menu! I really liked the Black Russian sandwich. I got it without the mushrooms and it was fantastic! My husband said, "They don't skimp on the meat either!" Ha! No, they don't! It was very filling! Take home boxes may be needed. :) We will definitely be visiting again! Currently, they have a coupon on the Froogle app, so it's a great time to give them a try! Enjoy! read more

I've never written a negative review, but The Rusty Cow Cafe really let me down yesterday. I had never been there and was craving a quiet brunch while I worked on a tablet. I checked their closing time, which was 2:00 pm. and arrived at 1:20 p.m. The hostess first commented that they were "shutting the lights off in 20 minutes". I said, "you are open until 2:00." She told me, yes but it is like when the bar closes, you shut the lights off so everyone leaves. She then told me I had time to eat. I almost left, and wish I had at that point. She led me to a table and the waitress promptly took my order. I went for simple, since it sounded like I would be pressed for time. I had the 2 eggs, sausage links, hash browns and sourdough toast. It was all tasty except for the hash browns, which were burned and inedible. The hostess checked in on me and asked how the food was. when I mentioned the hash browns she said, "Oh well, it's probably because you got here late." I felt shamed for arriving within business hours, and not even last minute as it were. I rushed through what I could eat of my meal, but it sure wasn't worth the $14 they charged for it plus a soda. We went here to take my husband out for memorial day. Got there a little over an hour before close. We were seated the waitress seemed to be a little frustrated. We were giving only a breakfast menu . After we ordered and served we were rushed to eat. My dau h ter in law was down to 1/2 her drink and the came over 3 to four times asking are you finished with that half way do e still 20 min. Before two and we were asked 3 times would you like a to go box. Are you finished with this plate still had our pancakes on them it was crazy. I use to go here when it was mathews it was nice was never rushed . On the upside the food was awesome. Sadly to say I won't go back after my experience. We had breakfast here Saturday. It was senior omlet with kielbasa, wonderful. We love this restaurant and prices are very reasonable.

I would not recommend this cafe if you are expecting any kind of customer service. As I was waiting for a table this afternoon I was shocked at the way the host treated a senior who was also waiting for a table. She politely told the older host that she felt she was waiting longer than the party he had just called. He got very angry raised his voice and proceeded to walk over to her and point aggressively at the paper stating "SEE YOU ARE NOT NEXT" I'm guessing this was the owner as anybody else would be let go for that kind of behavior. I am still shocked that in a senior citizen focused cafe this is how they would be treated. I certainly value customer service enough that I will never give them my business again. read more

Another great dining discovery thanks to Yelp! My wife and I were looking to try a new breakfast place and found this beauty on Yelp. There was a short wait, which is usually an indication you found a good place. Loved the Ambiance, our server was delightful and the food was excellent.
