I'm not typically hyped over food truck fare due to long lines, high prices, etc. but I was at an event that only had food truck options for concessions. The Rusty Dog had the shortest line and a corn dog didn't sound half bad, so I went for it. I think this truck is a hidden gem and honestly, shocked that the line wasn't the longest in the place. I ordered the "shish-ka-dog" which is sections of hot dog-cheese-hot dog-cheese on a stick wrapped in a crisp-tender, slightly sweet pillow of corn bread corn dog-I-ness. I am so happy I opted for something that sounded a little exciting. The cheese was ooey gooey yet solid enough to keep the pieces of hot dog perfectly spaced to give you hot dog, cheese and corn bread in every bite. Utterly mouthwatering! The fries were crispy and seasoned without being overly salty. Fry sauce was just okay but but not bad by any means. Only downside was the long wait, but the price was very reasonable and the service was friendly. Renewed my faith in food trucks!!! read more

My only suggestion would be to ask them to cook your corn dog well because I have gotten them with the batter not cooked all the way through. This corn dog truck was in my apartment complex today. I decided to go to them because they are a small business and it's the time to support them. I'm not much of a corn dog fan. Let me tell you, I am so glad that I stopped by and got a corn dog. I got the Shish-ka-dog. The batter was crispy, warm, sweet and savory. Tasted almost like a corn bread. I ate it on less than two minutes. No regerts. The guy inside was super nice also. He thanked me for stopping at his food truck. I should have thanked him for what he was doing. We need small businesses and we definitely need to support them. I would go to this food truck again if I saw it. read more

More specifically, your deep fried, salty, crunchy fair food corn dog fix? WELL YOU CAN! The Rusty Dog is an Idaho-born food truck serving the Treasury Valley fresh hot corn dogs throughout the year. In addition to a classic fair-style corn dog (Rusty Dog, $6) they offer several other innovated varieties. A personal favorite is the Hot Rusty ($7). It's a cut up polish sausage dog (high quality) dipped in their delicious homemade batter, topped with pieces of jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and drizzled in hot honey. Oh my goodness the first bite into this was truly spectacular! It took me right back to when I first remembered my first corn dog. I am lover of spicy foods, so the jalapeños were an excellent addition. And who doesn't love cream cheese?! 3.5 stars for me... I wanted to love this place, but in all honesty, it was simply mediocre. The cook on the cornmeal makes it look as though they are using stale oil, but I'm pretty sure they are hitting it with too high of an oil temp for the entire cook so you get a darker color and a faint twinge of burnt flavor. The batter is a bit too thick and the inside is steamed so you get a gritty mouth feel. The cheese inside one of them was interesting, but it was separate from the hot dog so much less successful than it could have been. Fries, while limp, were flavorful and properly seasoned with a seasoned fry sauce accompaniment. Unlike many food trucks or restaurants, they gave adequate amounts of napkins. The order had a nice presentation as the larges are long and bundled with a few of them, they looked like a bouquet of flowers. With a few tweaks, this place could vastly improve. read more

The corn dogs are ok for me. The staff is friendly and nice. I got the bacon dog and I could barely taste the bacon. I was hoping for a crunch from the bacon but it was a thin slice that was more chewy when I found out I had bacon. I do like corn dogs and they had a variety of ways they serve. Maybe next time I'll just try a normal dog. Give them a try if you see them at one of the truck meets. read more

Saw their truck at the Cascade rodeo and thoroughly enjoyed the corndog with cheese in it, and the staff was so friendly too! Loved it so much, went to their facebook to see if they'd be in any locations near us. A few food trucks were having an event at the Payette brewery, so we decided to go. This time, the man working was unfriendly, condescending, and judgemental! He said things like "yeah you just want some deep fried cheese, huh you guys love deep fried cheese?" in a completely disgusted manner. We laughed this off and waited for our order, not to mention we were the only ones there. He proceeded to continue to address us in an unprofessional and rude manner.
