We tried the yuzu and also the matcha flavored shortbread/cookies. They were wonderful Then we had sandwiches - egg salad and also a ham and cheese. The sandwiches were super fresh and filled to the brim. She heated the ham and cheese one. Yummy! The bread is so delicious.$11 each sandwich - which actually felt like a bargain for the quality and quantity. Next time we will try the asparagus . Lots of cool Japanese pantry items in stock including hard to find specialty sesame oil and black sesame paste ..etc. I rarely give 5 stars - but between the service, the great food, and the chill atmosphere - this is a winner. We will be back! Arigato!

Great vegetarian options and gluten free options for cakes. The blueberry olive oil cake and apple cake were both delicious, super moist and soft-- the crumbly top was delicious and not too sweet. The egg salad sandwich with arugula was very tasty-- the artisanal bread was fresh and the egg salad was so creamy and savory. It also comes on round milk bread. Love how the sandwiches come in half and full portions making it easy to try different ones. We also tried the curried carrot, sprouts, and cream cheese sandwich was equally delicious and fresh-- a great vegetarian option. The ham and Gruyère sandwich with sundried tomato aioli was excellent-- thick slices of ham and cheese, really well-balanced and satisfying. Friendly owner who makes these delicious sandwiches throughout the day. Can't wait to go back! There is a small round indoor table for seating for a few people but most of it is for take out, which we happily did.

Decided to try this place today thanks to a recommendation from the bro. The place is small but it…read morehas a decent number of tables inside for a few parties - along with outdoor, picnic table type seating on one side and bistro type seating on another side. You order at the register and take your very large portioned plates wherever you'd like to sit. There are quite a few baked goods right at the register which looked great but I restrained myself, this time. I ordered the 4 rib platter which came with two sides. I got the mac & cheese and pickled beets. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and had good flavor. They give you a side of BBQ sauce in case you wanted some. The mac & cheese seemed like it was baked which is a plus for me. The only drawback is that it needed a little more flavor. Maybe a sharper, more flavorful cheese would help. I just put some salt and pepper on it and that helped a ton. The pickled beets were as expected - and I love beets! The platter also comes with a mini cornbread LOAF! Seriously, it's a good size mini. It was delicious, slightly sweet, and contained corn kernels. Also, a side of sliced pickles come with the platter and any sandwich. We were warned that they were spicy today and that was the truth! It was a bit over $40 for so much good food. We had to box up some of the food and it can definitely feed another person. Also, service was friendly and fast. I'd come back to try more items - probably including one of those baked goods :)

I was super excited when I realized most of this place is vegan, but was disappointed by flavor. The mocha was okay but lacked significant flavor and the vanilla bean latte must have had actual beans used because it was also lacking flavor but had a mysterious crunch. It's a cute place, though, and maybe other items taste better....

Vegetarians rejoice!…read more Where do I start? How about with the best damn sandwich I've had in years. This place was recommended to us, as my wife and I are vegetarians. I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!
