I knew we weren't getting local joint NYC pizza at this Hudson, NY restaurant. It was doable for the moment. I mean...it's good and the flavors are there- but is it a pizza? The way New Yorkers truly love their pizza? Nnnnno. Kudos to Baba Louie's I guess for experimenting with sourdough flour. But what makes people think that sourdough flour would be the ultimate replacement for regular, good ol' fashioned flour? While some folks are praising Baba L. for the sourdough, hubs and I found the texture unappealing and tasteless. Everything that went on top of the crust though, was tasty. My small Pomodoro Bianco with fresh mozzarella, roasted portobello, garlic, tomatoes, red onions, chevre (opted out of it), pesto and Parmesan sounds like a mouthful- but the tomato slices were too thick. Hubs liked his pepperoni pie and seasony sauce ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Even with like 45 minutes to spare before their 3pm Sunday closing time, we were seated smoothly without the rush from our server. So much so, folks came in droves like 20 minutes to closing and weren't turned away. Our server rocked big time and handled herself like the ultimate pro from the moment she sat us, brought over our pies and when we left.

This place was probably the best place I went to in Hudson. The pizza is good, the ambience is great, and it's very affordable Food: we ordered the promodoro bianca, ricardos pizza famosa, and the margarita pizza! They were all good! My favorite was the ricardos pizza because I enjoyed the cheese and the tangy sauce! My friends really liked the pomodoro pizza - it had a lot of veggies and used pesto instead of tomato sauce - which gave it a very different flavor. I don't recommend the margarita pizza. Price: the pizzas were very reasonable - about $22 per large pizza and $16 for a small. I split 2 larges and 1 small and it came out to about $15 per person Ambience: nice location with good seating Service: it's very slow but I think that's also becuase it's busy. But it took me over 30 minutes to get my order

Do they have gluten free pizza?

Yes, but I thought it was really average. They have a great selection of toppings so that helps. Better than nothing.

Fellow vegans who came- how are the vegan choices? Read on a review many choices but on website just says vegan cheese?

Hey Heather, just wanted to let you know all our pizzas can be made vegan. Our soups are always vegan. All our breads are vegan and we are working on a vegan dessert. We usually have a choice of house made banana ice cream or pineapple cheese cake.…

We started with their signature focaccia, fresh out of the oven. Then, a seasonal Asparagus Tarte that was very much a deconstructed version: a delicious butter crust at the bottom of the plate, frisée lettuce, perfectly prepared asparagus topped with a pecorino creme vinaigrette. The perfect spring dish. Next was a Tuna crudo with ramp oil, watermelon radishes, fresh microgreens and toasted hazelnuts. Finally, their take on a Frisée aux Lardons, served with pickled figs. The lardons themselves were nicely crisped, and very satisfying. We had Negronis for cocktails, and a generous carafe of rose, served off the tap. All around one of the best meals I've had. Can't wait for the next menu that Chef Jeffrey Gimmel puts together. Apparently this is a monthly series, so keep a look out and don't miss the June dinner, guessing end of June on a Saturday night?

I ordered the Chicken Sandwich, which was, surprisingly, a chicken SALAD sandwich. I'd envisioned a piece of chicken (which they said was "roasted") with the mentioned Dijon mustard and pickled onions and a side of slaw. Instead, the chicken was cut into chunks and smothered (And I do mean smothered.) in, what I presume was the endive slaw and Dijon mustard plus the pickled onions. Overpowering. This was served with a side of endive with vinegar dressing. The sandwich bread was delicious, though. They should change this item to "Chicken Salad Sandwich" instead of using "Chicken Sandwich." My friends ordered the breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon and a slice of the quiche, which they said were okay. These three lunches plus a small Coke and iced tea (I had water.) set us back $90.00 with the tip. Way overpriced for the food.

"We don't have a cocktail menu, but we can make anything you'd like."…read more That was one of the first things our server told us, and honestly, it was refreshing. These days, it feels like every bar has a cocktail menu full of creatively named drinks that require reading a list of ingredients just to figure out what you're ordering. At Governor's Tavern, if you want a gin and tonic, you simply ask for a gin and tonic. The only decision you need to make is which gin you'd like. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but I appreciate that not every place feels the need to reinvent the wheel. The place was packed at lunchtime, but we got lucky and grabbed a pair of seats across from the bar. The server who I quoted was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Guinness, but unfortunately the keg had just kicked. She recommended the Samuel Smith chocolate stout instead and even brought me a sample before I committed to taste since I never heard of it, which was a nice touch. For food, we ordered the State Grill burger and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, and each came with Belgian-style hand-cut fries. If you're spending the day browsing the boutiques and antique shops along Warren Street and want a drink, a good meal, and a lively mix of locals and tourists, Governor's Tavern is worth a stop.
