A few things to consider when becoming a student at this salon. 1.) do you want to be bullied by your instructor (Nancy) on the daily? 2.) do you want your salon items stolen and locked in the teachers Nancy's desk? 3.) do you enjoy having appointments removed from your books when your close to graduation dates? 4.) do you want to be locked in a supply closet by your instructor (Nancy)? 5.) do you want to have to jump through every hoop imaginable just to graduate? If you enjoy long days of being talked down to and feeling uncomfortable then you're in the right place. These are all experiences experienced by not one but multiple students also attending the salon. This behavior is not only insane for a place of teaching but also very uncomfortable. What kind of person steals from students? How is this ok? The reason it has been allowed for so long is because Nancy threatens anyone that stands up to her with a suspension. Everyone then becomes subject to all of Nancy's weird hoops and loops she makes you jump through just for fear of being kicked out of the program. Make your choice wisely. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. HUGE mistake! My daughter came for prom blow out. Took an hour and 45 minutes just to wash her hair and blow dry it before they even started styling it. The person doing hair literally looked like he had never held a hair dryer before. When I asked the front desk person about why it was taking so long, they blamed my daughter twice. Saying they didn't know it was a blow out and that she didn't tell them, which I knew she did, plus that doesn't change how long it took! Zero apology either. read more

Always bugs me the zero stars isn't an option. Nancy mentioned many times on yelp, Facebook and google reviews is a bully/manager. Openly tells new students that it will happen and is within her power to torture and not graduate students. She takes pride in stealing and locking up students personal processions. She moves dates for testing hours day of and fines you for not completing. She moves clients, cancels client to keep you from getting your hours and not telling clients before they arrive and obviously not the student either. Manipulative mind games and if your kind nice or pretty you can bet you'll be the target. She's a ruthless ogre who gets thrills off hurting people. I have gotten color, highlights mostly, every three months for about a year and a half now. A few things I feel they do well include COVID response, professionalism, explaining the process (or what they are doing), and pricing Students are great, making sure to check in with their instructors prior to beginning any treatment and during when they have questions. Nancy (instructor) is wonderful and seems to really enjoy her job, which seems to be great for the students. Makes for a comfortable environment. Things I think they could improve upon include... honestly, nothing. They are students so the techniques, cuts, or color isn't always exactly what I want, but I'm not picky and I love the prices (extremely affordable) plus I highly value education of all kinds... so getting my hair done here really makes sense for me and my family. We have gotten hair color (many techniques), hair cuts, eyebrow waxing, and we send my mom (in her 60s) for a wash and dry once in a while as a treat, she loves it. If you are picky, or have high expectations perhaps this isn't the place for you. BUT If you are flexible and tolerant of a possible mistake made by a student, then I highly recommend making an appointment here! They even do waxing, nails, and facials! read more

I wasn't going to write this review on this platform but the salon academy has taken their reviews down off their Facebook page because of so many negative reviews coming in, but I feel obligated to share my experience with everyone so no one else has to experience this school as a client or student. I started going to the Salon Academy back in June 2020, the reason why is because one of my close friends was a student there and I was helping her get her services. Everything started out okay, until the director of the school Nancy Ferguson decided she had a problem with the student I was seeing. From this point forward everything became a horrible experience, not only for me as the client but also for this student as well. Here are some prime examples, in beauty school you have to provide models to test out on modules that you learn in school. I was going to be a make up model, for the student I arrived on time for my appointment and was the first one there out of the models, I proceeded to wait 20 minutes for the school to be ready to perform the test out on this module, this is when the instructor decided that there was no longer enough room for her whole class to test out and that she was going to exclude this student and me from this experience. I was then asked to leave in front of a whole waiting room and several students With no explanation as of to why or an apology for wasting my time. My friend messaged me letting know how distressed the situation made her and that she was coming home, before realizing Nancy took her purse and personal possessions, locked them in her office, then forced the distressed student to participate, starting 15 plus minutes late working on a random student, and then the instructor was irritated towards her the whole time. Definitely not a safe learning environment. The next situation that baffled me, was when I was in the MIDDLE of receiving a facial when Nancy walks in again and instructed the student to walk out into the hall with her?? They then came back she informed me my service was over because the student needed to take a lunch.. I still paid for this service. I also later learned that the light therapy service I was paying extra for was not being counted for this student because Nancy had decided they had not yet properly taught the students how to be using this device.. (the student normally receives an extra point for this service as it is an add on.) So even though I was charged for this service, the student was not to receive any credit. This seems very unprofessional and questionable to me as a client. Lastly, the receptionist Amelia Michaelson was SO unprofessional talking with clients and students about how unorganized she thought Nancy was and much more about how she couldn't stand working for her, etc. She also would talk about very inappropriate things such as paraphernalia with students and so on.. I could share much more on this situation but I will leave it at this. This school does NOT host a positive or supportive environment for their students or clients, and I would never and never will be going back to support this school as long as Nancy Ferguson is apart of this business. I can not say enough good things about this place. I absolutely love it, and as I'm watching my fiancé get his hair cut, it seems as though he loves it too. These people are so sweet and amazing at what they do. They really care that you are happy with your service and that you want to keep coming back for more. It is a very open area with a lot of natural lighting tucked behind shops. Very modern looking and has a very bright and happy atmosphere. I will always keep coming back for more! read more

Marley Martinez did a wonderful job on my hair and she was so great to work with. After such a good experience with her I decided to get a manicure there since it is right next to my office. First experience: I don't remember the gals name but she was very quiet -I was happy with the outcome of my nails. I did however notice that the salon was almost out of all nail color selections and top coats, I figured since it was the end of the month they may just be running out of inventory. Second Experience: I came back, worked with a different gal- once again very quiet and didn't say more than two sentences to me. Once again, they were out of almost all nail color selections and the technician had to use the barrel of the bottom to even finish my nails. Afterwards, the lady working at the front of the salon (colored hair, taller) asked me how my experience was and I replied "It was okay, I did notice that your technicians are lacking a lot of supplies though." Her response was "That is unfortunate." Some basis observations after my few times here: - Management rarely checks on the nail technician's work during or after to critique - Management is not very professional or friendly at the front of the salon and does not seem to care much for customer's satisfaction of service. - Management does not conduct proper inventory audits to ensure students have the required materials to perform their job correctly - Did I already mention management is very unprofessional? - Management or front desk help running the show here lack professional and appropriate communication skills to ensure clients are satisfied - even if it is a beauty school! Also, do they even teach the students how to interact with clients? This is a great opportunity for them to network and earn lifelong clientele! If you're looking for a cheap manicure, by all means try it out. Be prepared to have a three option color selection and be on your own if your nail technician messes up. If you're looking for a great hair stylist, ask for Marley Martinez - she is amazing. read more

I will like to start this off with say that I've been coming here for six years. And I've never had such a horrible experience. The girl that I had doing my hair it was very sweet and wonderful. And I don't blame her for anything that happened because she was new to the floor And I know their students and they make mistakes. However Nancy should have been watching her and what she was doing. I'm going back to what I said I've been going there for years. And I have never not seen an instructor check up on the student. In the past I have always scheduled with very experienced students and the instructor has always checked on them once or twice throughout the process even with them being experienced students. And in my last visit not once did they come up and check on what she was doing to my hair. They decided that they were going to just chitchat the whole entire time and not check up on her while she fried my hair. I had shown them a picture of highlights and the coloring I wanted and I currently had highlights in my hair when I showed up to the appointment. I told her when I was getting my highlights done that I wanted them closer to the scalp. She said that she could do that and I had spoken to Nancy When the student got the OK to proceed with my appointment. I am so beyond mad that it took me three months to write this review. I first went to The Salon Professional Academy a few months ago, and was excited that Wilsonville now has a school. The first time I went was great, and while it took a long time for a haircut (I was there 2 hours), I'm in my seventies and had the time. I was very pleased with the service and went back 2 or 3 times! Then, I was leaving on a trip and went back for a haircut a couple of days before I left. Terrible haircut, but went back the next day for a mani-pedi. I should've known better! I always tell manicurists that I'm diabetic. I was there from 12:00 until 4:00 PM! First, a manicure which was unlike anything I've ever had! I went on to the pedicure (done by the same student). Unlike any pedicure I've ever experienced. The instructor came over and gave her instructions periodically, then disappeared and she proceeded to completely disregard what she had been told. I ended up with four coats of polish on my toenails (none of them dry before the next was applied, and it kept bleeding into the cuticles. I finally had her remove all of it and I left. By this time I was shaking. Four hours, and I had missed lunch. I was not offered so much as a drink of water! When I got to the front, I was told that I owed for a basic mani-pedi, instead of the "deluxe". I told them to look my feet, and asked if that looked like a pedicure! The response was "I'm sorry you weren't satisfied with the service"! I paid them (which I shouldn't have done), left and will never go back. I don't blame the student. The instructors and administration did her as much a disservice as they did to me! They should be "teaching" their students who have paid for the school! They also should be taught how to treat their clients, as well as techniques and skills. I don't usually do things like this review; but I really feel that I need to in this instance. Hopefully someone at the Academy will read this, and pay attention. read more

..I am a hairdresser, have been for 55 years, I received a wonderful experience last fri. having my haircut & colored , by Kaylei.She was so professional, I hardly believed she was a student . Confidence , poised, listened, attentive.As I said , I am a hairdresser, ...rarely "Love " what I can do w/ my hair, myself, for the 1st couple of weeks, after a cut. This has been , THE BEST! Also, her instructor , Nancy , was amazing. Treated us both w/ professional respect ! It was as if they were a team, not student/ instructor.
